They "repaired" my Jeep Cherokee's exhaust in May. It had become partly detached, got loud underneath the front seat area. One month later in June we were on vacation in Niagra Falls, Ontario when the entire exhaust system fell off. It fell off starting from the point at which the original "repair" had been done by Midas the month prior. I was driving normally when it fell off, traveling approximately 10 mph, on a level road when it fell off without warning. I had it properly repaired in Canada, drove it home without further issue. I went to Midas the day after returning home & was given nothing but the runaround. The man I spoke to said Midas would repay me for the repair done in Canada. When I said Midas should also refund me for the faulty "repair" done in May, he said "no way" & went on to blame me for the exhaust falling off. Having had enough of his arrogance & disrespect, I told him I wanted a manager to call me. After verifying Midas had my phone number, I wrote my name & number down & gave it to him to make certain. I never got a call back. Avoid this place like the plague. read more

This place was once good when it was owned by someone else but a few months ago I was told that my radiator was leaking coolant and needed a flush so I stupidly believed them. After having two of my Machanic friends look at the new car I bought that I had Midas do an inspection of the car, my mechanic friends told me I had been scammed. Stay away. I lost out on almost 500 dollars that I had to pay. Funny thing is that they now take pictures to prove the wear and broken parts and for transparency but the time they forgot to take pictures of the leak. It's been a few months now and I have no problems and I know they scammed me. I also trust my friends to tell me the truth. I'm deciding if I should bring them to small claims court for triple damages, cost of my day at work and court cost. It would come to approximately 3000 dollars read more

I went to this Midas location because they had a sign advertising $16.99 oil change with tire rotation. A mechanic of as as rude as he could be spending a lot of time in the customer waiting area and not in the garage. He argued anything "he asked" me! Upon leaving my $16.99 oil change and rotation cost me $24.99+ tax for some reason, to boot, the "mechanic" did not tighten down the lug nuts on ANY of my tires properly. My wife drives this vehicle, this "mistake" could have killed her, me, our children or possibly all of us. Luckily I felt a vibration, stopped and checked for loose wheels and tightened them up on the spot myself!! I would not recommend this Midas shop to anyone. I am not one to write reviews, but I would give this place 0 stars if I could. The first manager provided a quote of $2500 for a few simple things (example: $900 for breaks), LIKELY because I am a young lady who does not know a thing about cars and the cost of parts. Had I not consulted with my husband and my dad, I probably would have let it slide. I was so angry (and obviously did not want to spend this amount of money), that I told him to just do an oil change and nothing else. I decided I would bring my car to a local mechanic for the work, and I'm happy I did. However, the saga doesn't end there. About an hour after dropping my car off at the local mechanic, the gentleman informed me that my wheel lock was missing, and some of the parts under my hood were apparently not put back the right way. I called Midas, and they informed me that they still had my wheel lock, and I had to bring my car back to ensure that it was "truly mine"-- as if it was my fault?! Oh, and to add to it, he still tried to coerce me into doing the breaks and brought the price down to $320!!!! What?! Why was there such a discrepancy? Since I could not drive my car back to pick up the wheel lock (at this point my car was already being worked on, tires were off, etc.), my dear mother stormed into the Midas shop, and demanded that the man give her the wheel lock. The man then proceeds to take out a BOX of wheel locks and tells her to hold on a minute because he has A LOT OF THEM (So, yes, these people steal other people's wheel lock's too!!!). Meanwhile, the local mechanic fixed the mess that Midas had made, and charged me $600-- which I was thrilled to pay after everything. All of this to say, these people do SHADY business, and they do not care about their customers. When we questioned their ridiculous and inconsistent pricing, they claimed that "times are hard right now and we're not getting a lot of business." This is not an acceptable reason to provide poor customer service and unfair pricing. Everyone is going through a difficult time right now. This type of behavior WILL catch up with you. Unless you are simply looking for a standard oil change, I would stay far away from this Midas location. read more

They where really professional did a great job on my brakes on my car and I would recommend them to a friend or family member.

I have a 2018 Subaru Impreza with about 22k miles on it, a friend of mine mentioned to me that the breaks feel a bit slow when pressed and might need to be looked at, since I use the car to get my family around, I did not relent, so on July 29 after getting a questionable $960 estimate from another car repair shop in Lawrence Massachusetts for repair, I called the Midas of North Reading Massachusetts and they told me over the phone that to replace all 4 pads on a 2018 subaru impreza the estimate is $99+, so set up an appoint for the next day, I showed on July 30th at 8AM sharp. I saw their technicians Ryan and Don (too white guys a young man early 20s, and an older one mid 50s), very welcoming to me, and I could tell they really wanted my business. (I'm African-American, sadly for us our race matters more often than not). they lifted the car, inspected the breaks and said, your front break pads are the most used, and you have only used up less than 30% of them, the rear ones are even less worn out, so save your money for now sir. I was shocked, I said what about the rotors, he said your rotors are new, you would need to add another 30K before needing to replace them. I asked are you sure the car is safe to drive? he replied I've been doing it this for 30+ years, and yes your car is perfectly safe to drive. I thanked them and promised to return to Midas when my breaks need work done. I hope their honesty is reflected in every transaction, because I was very grateful that they did not attempt to make me spend my money for no reason. *****I DO RECOMMEND THEIR SERVICE 100% read more

Had the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee in on 7/2/2019 for oil and air filter change. I ws told that they did not rotate the tires because the rear tires were too worn and need to be replaced. The car passed inspection and when I checked with a local tire store, they indicated they are about 1/2 worn! Not any way to treat a 25 year customer or any for that matter! I see by the reviews that this has been done before! I will not be returning ever! read more

I recently brought my car there to get a quote on replacing a front left strut on my 2007 Mercedes. The part cost $387.00 anywhere you buy it. They wanted to charge me $ 1,494.99 for the strut and then $323.93 to install it. Mercedes only charged $1,100.00 for the whole job. Don't go there they'll steal you blind. read more

I had been coming to this location for years, and in fact left a glowing review on this page a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, my most recent experience here has been poor. Apparently this location is under new ownership and the service level has suffered. I had new tires and brakes installed. Upon leaving the shop my brakes were noticeably worse; in fact I nearly hit the car in front of me at the first stoplight. I called the shop and was told to bring my car in at 7:30 am (their listed opening time) because it seemed they had not properly bled the brakes. The person I spoke with told me they would get me on the road right away so I could get to work. When I arrived today at 7:30, I was told they do not open until 8:00, and that I would have to leave my car because they couldn't help me. I pointed out that this is a safety issue, and that I had been told to come in at that time, but the employee shrugged it off. I work in the service industry, and have to say I would never allow a customer to be dealt with in this manner, especially if they had to return due to substandard work that would potentially jeopardize their safety. My recommendation: go elsewhere. read more

I really did not want to have to write this but my patience is done. This place used to be great - good guys and good, fair service. Apparently it changed hands recently. Had my brakes serviced in June which also turned into 3 tie rods etc .. Incredible inflated prices on the tie rods but lets leave that alone for now. One caliper, rotors and pads replaced on the front. 3 days later on the 4th of July my wife and I lose braking on the highway in NH - dash lights up like an xmas tree and I have barely no pedal. Pull to a safe location with barely any brakes .. Check the car and the replaced caliper side is soaked and leaked when the pedal was depressed. Brake fluid almost empty. Fitting was bad. So we do the AAA dance (3 hours waiting on a holiday in NH) and try to find a small shop to fix it. It gets fixed the next day and we drive home. In addition to that, the car was bouncing and drifting all of the road and after I returned I had an alignment checked and wheel balance done. Alignment was off considerably. You can make mistakes but never on brakes. Never. So I contact who I thought was the owner - but turns out he sold the location to someone new and he forwarded my info to the new owner. BTW the former owner was very good to me, concerned and tried to help. Weeks go by - no contact. I then contact Midas corporate and after a few rounds telling and documenting my story to different people they claim to have contacted the NEW owner who was supposed to contact me .. it's been almost a month now and nothing. I've spent hundreds just fixing the bad work they had done. Stay away from this place .... stay far away. read more

Have been going here for 30 years except when they were closed for a couple years. Ivan and Christine are a husband and wife team ( new owners ). They are great people and they want to make you happy. Remember these three things and you will be happy too: 1.) always best to call to make an appointment. 2.) It takes time to have some parts delivered so be patient or leave your vehicle. Parts and Labor rates go up every year so do not be surprised that your brake job cost more this time than 3 years ago. 3.) This is a brake and muffler shop. They also do shocks, tires, oil changes and other things but not everything. Do not expect that they can solve all your vehicles' problems and mysterious sounds. Sometimes you just have to take it to a garage/dealership. read more

I am new to the area and needed to get an oil change, I used the Groupon for a Saturday, made an appointment and was in and out within an hour for a tire rotation and oil change. The owners are husband and wife were so friendly and welcoming. I decided this will be my place to go. When the next oil change was needed I scheduled another sat appt that was in and out within an hour. The owners both times made some useful suggestions and didnt seem to be trying to fool me as other places typically try to do. read more

This place is very unprofessional. I had called for a price on tires amd spoke to a man who barely spoke English was very rude and unprofessional with his stuttering. I went in to only get told a new price by the store manager who also sismt seem to know what was going on in his own store. Very poor service . I walked out and drove 2 minutes up to firestone who were more busy and still treated me kindly and gave me better prices I got all four tires and rear breaks done by firestone ! I've been going to the N. Reading Midas for a few years now for all of my oil changes. Probably the most consistently cheap oil change around (around $25 altogether), plus they have a deal where every fifth oil change with them is free. Count on waiting for an hour or so though...I've seen people come in on lunch break and (pretty unreasonably) get upset when their car wasn't ready. I actually don't mind hanging out there...free coffee and a robust magazine selection. Of course they will usually suggest other needed repairs during the "courtesy check". Not bad necessarily, since I wouldn't know about problems otherwise. Ivan is an honest guy, though, and will usually admit if the repairs are truly necessary. Sometimes a bit expensive, but occasionally I will take my vehicle there for other repairs if my regular mechanic has a packed schedule. Never had a bad experience with the work. read more

My mom went here to get an oil change and my guess is the drain plug must not have been torqued properly and loosened over time. She was on the freeway when it came loose. Luckily she caught it and pulled over immediately. We get it towed to Mirak Hyundai in Arlington. Josh is the manager here and he took responsibility for my mother's car. He agreed to a rental and all damages and repairs to the vehicle. I call Mirak and tell them to fix it and call me when its done. They didn't call me back for several days so I assumed it was somewhat damaged. Turns out they just forgot to call me so I had the rental for 7 days longer than the invoice reflected. At first I wanted Midas to pay for it and I argued but Josh was right. You guys did your part. Ive worked in this industry before and have experienced it from both perspectives. Not a fun experience at all. I was wrong in asking Josh and Midas to take care of the remainder of the rental. Had to try though? I tried to have the service woman re-write the invoice date so it reflected when I actually picked it up. I know. That was wrong for me to try. But I didn't want ANY financial responsibility given the situation. While I still believe it should be paid in full because of how much inconvenience it's caused, what's fair is fair. This was of Mirak's doing, so I argued it with them as well to no avail. I'm out 275 for the rental thanks to Mirak Hyundai in Arlington. I had an alternator replaced here last year. After they replaced it the lights/electrical started pulsing after a month or two and I had to bring it back to be fixed. The second alternator died this week and the new shop I took it to (Bills Auto in Woburn) called it a "Mickey Mouse" repair job and could diagnose it in minutes. Even if it was still covered under warranty from Midas, I wouldn't bring it back here. I'd rather get it done right and give my business to someone else. I've had brake service done at a different Midas and was very satisfied which is why I went with this Midas location. Not again. read more

I'm at Firestone right now! I stopped off at Midas on Monday January 30,2017 at 3:15. I walk in and there is no customers or cars in the bay. I said to the guy working behind the counter hi can you look at my brakes and give me an estimate? He says no unless you get an oil change! I'm like Really? I was a long-time customer of this Midas location. I went there this August to replace the brakes of the front wheels. There were only a few cars around. The technician named "Jose" told me that I needed to change my front tires because the inner side tread depth was only 1/32" and 2/32" respectively. He said my car could not pass the state inspection for this reason. I told him I just had all four tires replaced last year and did a four wheel alignment at a dealership. The mileage since that replacement was only around 10K miles. "Jose" also told me there was oil leak sign on the engine valve cover. First He suggested replace the timing belt. I told him that I vaguely remembered it had already been replaced when I had the tires changed at the dealership. Then the shop manager named "Cody" (this was a new guy I did not know before) suggested the valve cover gasket might get compromised when the timing belt was changed. They also told me that the exhaust pipes leaked as well. I trusted them at that time and I had my front brakes and exhaust pipes replaced at Midas, which cost me almost $1200. Several days later, I went to that dealership and had my car checked for the oil leak and tire wear out issues. To my surprise, both tires were OK with about 6/32" of tread depth. In addition, there was no sign of oil leak, nothing was in the catch pan either. While waiting for at the dealership, I got a quote at the dealer's service department for replacing the exhaust pipes. To my surprise, it was about $100 less than what Midas charged me. I also got an inspection sticker during that visit. So I came back to Midas to find out why the discrepancies. What "Jose" and "Cody" told me was that they measured the depth of the wearing bar on the tires instead of the normal tread. "Cody" stated that "Jose" was a certified technician, who was qualified to measure the tread depth. He also claimed himself being a manager at a dealership service department for 10 years. When I confronted him saying that the measurement should be done at tread instead of at the wearing bar. He asked me how did I know. I told him internet. Then he was silent. Even if they measured a wearing bar, there was still some discrepancy (2/32"to 3/32") since the wearing bars should be at 2/32" tread depth. As to the oil leak, they insisted there was leak but could not provide any supporting evidence. As to the cost of replacing exhaust pipes, "Cody" said he would have matched if I had provided others' quote, meaning they did charge more than the dealer. At that time I realized that they were trying to trick me into spending money on the unnecessary and expensive fixes. The Midas at North Reading really had changed after the shop management change. I will NEVER go back to this place again. read more

Brought my jeep which had overhearing problems i couldnt solve by changing the radiator out. Charged me 250 dollars to replace a thermostat and a cap on the radiator.car still overheated so I brought it back when they charged me another 350 to replace the radiator fan motor. 600 dollars later, my 1999 jeep still overheats and now has a check engine light on. they had no problem just giving it back with the same problem it had in the first place . Ivan (the owner) told my father they now thought it was the water pump AFTER HE TOLD ME IT WASNT, WHICH WAS THE CONCLUSION THAT BROUGHT THE TO REPLACE THE FAN MOTOr. No concern for customer care. Family went there for years so I gave them a shot. Don't trust the Midas touch, because thier other hands in your pocket. read more

I live in California, but I am Andover Ma. 1/2 the year to see family. I have a car here and i have been going to midas for work for years..... I got a simple oil change. The Old Manager, his name was IVAN I think. IVAN was GREAT! Ivan was honest and respectful. But The new manager, i did not have a good experience. he tried to upsell me on a list of things that totaled over 1000.00. he determined the work I needed, and listed it on a bill with total for parts , labor and tax. like i said it came to over 1000.00 and the main thing, he could have easily showed me some of the issues, so I actually SAW the problems, he could have made all this up. I strongly felt that because i am a woman, that he thought i would listen to him and take all he said seriously. I told my husband about these issues when i got home , and one of the problems the mgr at Midas told me, was CLEARLY NOT NEEDED. and he said that issue would cost 800.00 +.....The total for ALL repairs this new MGR said I needed came to approx 1500.00 ! I am going to stick with Midas, but i am not going to the N reading location due to this new Mgr. BEWARE IF YOUR A WOMAN,, he will try to upsell you , and tell you, you need to repair things THAT ARE NOT NEEDED. read more

Most unprofessional Midas I have ever been to. 1st of all, I booked an appointment for an oil change 2 days in advance online, and got an email confirmation from Christine. I go in, and "Christine" the secretary, says "oh well your not in the system, I can fit you in later this week". Ridiculous. I don't need an oil change for "later this week" I needed it for that day. Then her husband or some guy says rudely to me "whats going on", and I politely explain to him that I got a confirmation appointment but she wanted to add me for later on in the week. He fits me in, after waiting for half an hour after my set appointment. I'm there waiting, and he comes in and starts yelling at Christine, to go to the bank. I don't know if they were a couple, but arguing in front of customers is a definite NO. He finally tells her to leave to the bank. DO NOT COME HERE!!!!! POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE read more

I recently went to MIDAS because I was convinced that they wouldn't scam me/do more hurt on my car than good (like Valvoline did). Unfortunately I was wrong...very wrong. To start, when my car needed a routine oil change the Midas mechanic apparently filled my car with a little over a quart of oil more than they should have- aka a quart+ OVER the maximum marking. I later discovered this and learned that filling a car with that much oil is actually worse on the engine than driving around with little/no oil. Additionally, I needed to have my brake line replaced/repaired which they reported it was completed successfully and without any problems etc... A day/two after that "replacement" something seemed off with my car (rattling and shaking) so I had to have someone else inspect the car to figure out the problem. I was shocked to learn that Midas Failed to take out the old broken brake line and of course they failed to mention that to me when I was checking out with them. They literally left the old broken brake line intertwined in everything/dangling in my car. On top of that- I also learned that the new brake line they installed was not installed properly/not even secured down with anything. I can get over the fact that I was overcharged and scammed (to a certain degree) but I am offended and appalled that they cared so little about completing the job properly/caring about my well-being and overall safety. Needless to say, I will never return to MIDAS and I will continue to share this story in hopes to prevent anyone else I know from going there ever again as well. read more
