Today I returned to Sullivan Tire in Salem, NH, for a new set of Goodyear tires and related services. They did a really fine job on the installation and alignment. There were no bad surprise, just real expertise and polite service from everyone. My only concern.....the lot is so small for the volume of business they do and one has to be very, very careful navigating around. Brought a newly purchased Jeep to Sullivan's for state inspection and mechanical issue with vehicle pulling to the right when braking. They diagnosed defective left and right tie rods and track bar. All three parts were replaced and inspection sticker and alignment completed. Over the next couple weeks, noticed it still pulling to the right. Back the Jeep went to Sullivan's and then they said: defective front lower control arm bushings...they don't do those. Being a Jeep with 2" lift with large tires it was recommended adjustable control arms and then bring it back. Also, they said the brakes were fine, even though right rear was missing the pad clip. I believed there was an issue with the caliper or brake line on the left side given how it wasn't braking unevenly and had stated such, they went on about the "Lifted" being the issue. After replacement of the control arms, I returned to Sullivan's. Dropped it off, waited all day to hear, called ~3pm, and they claimed problem with their lift, a vehicle stuck on it, and my Jeep was next in. 20 minutes later they called and claimed more parts needed to be replaced... nothing specified...of course I asked "why I wasn't informed and what parts? " ...rather than explode, I picked up my Jeep. Seriously... Took the Jeep to an unnamed service/gas station in town and they found defective caliper and brake line on the left side.... I expected Sullivan's to push parts ... that's their business model...but to grossly misdiagnose a simple braking problem... I can only imagine how this lack of diagnostic skills cost other customers un-necessary repairs. If the service was so bad why two stars? at least the parts they replaced are considered reliable... which is more than I can say for Suliivan Tire diagnostic abiltites. read more

I went into Sullivan tire with a flat and had to leave the car overnight. The next morning, I received a call saying it would cost over $300 dollars to fix the flat and replace all the sensors in the tires. I told them that was the tire they replaced the sensor in three months ago. I told them I will be into pick up my car, and they said no problem. When I went in to get the car, they said they could not fix it because the tire would need to be replaced, and I needed to replace all four tires because the car was all wheel drive. I took the car to another tire place and had it repaired for $30. Would I go back to them for work. Hell no! read more

I received an oil change. There was an issue with it and it leaked all over my new driveway. They gave me rags that were useless. So now my driveway is stained and I've only had it for a week. They decided to refund me without my asking. Instead of refunding me they charged my card again. And instead of correcting it, they went away for the long weekend. They tried to tell me, again without my asking, that they were doing me a favor by not bothering me on the holiday weekend. What they were actually doing was not bothering to refund me because they had already batched out. If they had to lie they could have at least said they realized it this morning instead. DO NOT GO HERE!!! I put on 4 new house brand tires here and got suckered into buying their warranty. 15,000 miles later and my tires need to be replaced due to feathering! I called the Salem location and they tell me the warranty only covers blowouts and not wear - how convenient. The guy on the phone insisted it was my fault because I hadn't serviced them properly - I get my car serviced at the Honda dealership and have ALL the records. I stopped by Sullivan Tire in Salem NH because I got a flat tire and wanted to see if it was repairable. It was not, but they took the time to clean it up and remove it from the rim to find the problem. On top of that when they realized that they did not have the type of tire I needed for replacement they figured out which one it was, typed it up for me and told me where I could go to purchase one. And they disposed of the old tire as well. All at no cost to me. I should also point out that when I went to pick up my rim it was after 6pm since I got stuck at work late. They are supposed to close at 6pm and yet there were at least two employees still there taking calls and helping me out. I am really impressed by his customer service skills, knowledge, and willingness to help. I had a state inspection, an oil change, and a brake-fluid change here in February. I was there for maybe 2 hrs. I also had some other work quoted (Air filter, cabin air filter, spark plugs). The guy I talked to was friendly, and not pushy. I was happy with the service I had done, as I was not going to replace the brake-fluid myself, and didn't have the time to change the oil that month. I do have to say that I found the other quotes were pretty high - they use higher priced parts (compared to if you were to buy the mid-range or low range parts yourself and do it). Not sure if you can request else wise. I know they often have coupons available as well. They called a few weeks later to see if I was happy with my service. I would likely return for things I would rather not do - depending on quote. read more

Wow wasn't expecting to get scammed. Went to sullivan tire to get a new battery installed. Front desk man comes out to me and tells me that I (me) striped the bolt to release the battery from the locked down position. (when I tried it myself) the days before. says sorry we have to charge you extra $50 for the labor. Then the operator who took out the battery and installed the new one came out when the other guy (irish accent ) wasn't there and says oh got it out no problem and it wasnt stripped. I usually try to avoid "chain" automotive service centers, but the guys at Sullivan Tire have definitely earned my repeat business. I take 3 different vehicles to them for inspections, oil changes, and tires as well as some major repairs to my old Subaru. They are courteous, professional, and always willing to work with me. They have a courtesy van to make dropping off and picking up your car a breeze and so far I've always been able to get the appointment slot that I needed. Some tips: Buy 3 get 1 free tire specials: You might find cheaper tires on the internet, but when they run this special, there is no reason not to shop here. I had to have my car inspected. The car failed. Sullivan tire gave me a list of what needed to repaired. To get the car to pass inspection, I had to replace a ball joint. the price at Sullivan was 132.00. I left and tracked down a ball joint for around $25-30. I repaired the ball joint and took it back. I asked the attendent why he had a ball joint for almost 6 times as musch as any ball joint on the market. His response was they used the best parts. I find it hard to believe that everywhere else in the world has ball joints for 25-50 dollars but at Sullivan they cost 132.00. Then I called customer service 800 number. It was time for my first set of new tires after my factory tires on my car needed to be replaced. I choose Sullivan tire due to the location near my work and a special 3 for 1 deal for a certain set of tires. I went in for my tires on a saturday. After a fairly quick service (about an hour and a half) there was a new set on tires mounted, balanced, and aligned. With this type of experience Sullivan would be a 4 star rating, maybe a 5. However, there is a reason for my 3 star rating. After coming home and cleaning my wheels (they were extremely dirty from the shop) I realized that there were two wheels with a few very visible scratches. In addition to that there were a few chips on the wheels as well as a small section where the clear coat was removed on the face of the wheel. I obviously was not happy with the damage after spending a good amount of money. The next Monday I brought the car back to show the damage expecting that I would have to put up a fight to get the wheels fixed. This was not the case however as the store manager Eddie was apologetic and non-confrontational about the situation. It took another three days to get the wheels refinished while Sullivan paid for a rental car for me. When I picked up the car, the wheels looked as new and I headed on home when, what a surprise, another problem arised. My TPMS sensor lit up the dashboard. Another issue I had to go back to Sullivan to fix again. In the end it was obviously a hassle to bring the car back so many times and a very avoidable situation if the workers were just a little more careful but at least Sullivan, and more specifically the manager Eddie, took care of me and made good on their mistakes. read more
