We got new tires from here last year (for one of our vehicles), and recently came in to the shop to talk about our second vehicle. Preface: I initially called a few weeks back about a different service (headlight bulbs), but the guy I spoke to then (possibly old manager) wasn't super pleasant over the phone and I ended up taking my car to a competitor to get the work done. But now, we came in to talk about tires. Rob (who I believe is the new manager) immediately greeted us and was super friendly and knowledgable. He was patient and took his time to educate us on tires and the work we needed or *didn't* need. I'd highly recommend Rob to be your main point of contact for anything. My son took my car to Midas in Peru for an oil change and tire rotation. First off they wouldnt honor the price advertise, stating not all Midas' do. Fine, maybe state that in your advertising. Then the tire rotation wasn't done, but they told my son it was. When I called they just said sorry, could you bring it back tomorrow? Ummm, nope! Save yourself money and aggravation and go ANYWHERE else! read more

So after speaking with Midas Corporate on 3/14/2023 I was promised to a call from Jason Whitehurst (Regional Manager) or William Pelkey (Field Ops Specialist) within a 48 hour window. To nobody's surprise, I never got a call from either person. I follow up yesterday on 3/17/2023 and Derica from corporate says that my ticket has been closed and labeled as resolved. This company is worthless aside from Derica who was the only helpful person. Derica gives me Consumer Relations phone number to escalate the issue further. They state that since they are individually owned franchises there's nothing they can do to help with the problem. The common theme is that Midas does not care about your personal assets or safety and will deflect all liability. In conclusion, Midas and Dylan are cowards. My mother will end up having to buy a new car as they accrued over $5,000 worth of damages to my mother's vehicle. Again, this damage was caused because they grounded their welder to her transmission WITHOUT disconnecting the battery. This fried her TCM and it is not Midas fault according to them even though they physically drove the car into the bay to perform service. Negligence and unprofessional to say the least. Please take your vehicles to somewhere where the company's practices are NOT brought into question. They do not care about your possessions or your safety. I hope Dylan never receives any sort of bonus for his remaining tenure as he is incompetent and the company as a whole is too. This is NOT the first vehicle that has gone in there and died by their hands, AND IT WON'T BE THE LAST. Consumers, please stay safe and far away from Midas. An absolute joke. read more

Do not go to Midas in Peru if you are a woman. They tried to take advantage of my mother last week. She had some low tire pressure most likely due to cold weather or possibly 1 bad stem valve in one tire. They told her she needed new tires at a cost of $1,300 for some 235/40R19. She bought new Michelin tires at the end of 2019. $325/tire is ridiculous for this size! They said her tires were dry rotted because of all the road salt and other corrosion from being left in the open. She told them she drives about 400-500 miles/month and then it's parked in a garage, which they combatted with saying the rot is from parking in her garage! Really???? They also tried to pressure her into buying them "today" because they didn't have those tires in stock now and that their manager would need to drive them up from Peoria and could have them there tomorrow. It was sub-zero weather with strong winds this past week-end. She tried to air her tires herself. She had gone in around lunch time and the manager said they can't look at her tires until 1pm because his employees are all at lunch. She said it made her feel bad, but she came back at 1pm. If you want to give everyone lunch at the same time, close your store for 1/2 hour or an hour. That's bull crap. Pomps does the same thing. The customer does not come first anymore. My mom felt like they were trying to sell her something she didn't need so she didn't go back for the tires. She kept telling me she felt like they were taking advantage of an older woman. read more

Wow where to start! For one they totally messed up my aunts car charged her 500 bucks for a shotty exhaust job. When trying to make it right the second time they came back out and said the car will no longer start and they don't know why, they tried touching terminals on the starter and no are saying the computer is fried and she would have to tow it somewhere else to get it fixed and it's not their fault. When trying to get the car back after waiting for hours for them to be done they wouldn't even put it outside at a decent time for it to be towed away. They actually called the cops on us who just wanted their car back, its pathetic and asked the cops to serve trespassing warnings.You want your car repairs done right? Don't come to midas in peru illinois something that was supposed to be welded was slapped together with jb weld and they charged $500 for that and they ran the exhaust under the subframe and not even where the exhaust pipes were supposed to be. Questionable business practices taking place here - car gets brought in running fine (to fix a previous job that was done poorly and overcharged for) and after running some diagnostics the car will no longer start. The shop refuses to take accountability for any of this and says the car will need to be towed elsewhere and fixed. After giving the shop hours to address a minor issue (replacing an O2 sensor) before they can let the car down from the lift, the shop proceeds to call the cops for "trespassing", yet the car in question is still sitting 15 feet in the air on a lift, and still is even after the police arrive. Hard to tow a vehicle while it's still suspended in the air! I wouldn't trust this shop with anything more than a basic oil change. read more

Every time I hear about this place all it is is negative. It's a shame that the Peru Midas is under such poor management and refuses to do anything about it. In the last year I've had family and friends share stories of being over charged, being taken advantage of (specifically women), bandaiding issues instead of fixing them, and now most recently calling the cops to remove a customer (a respected woman in the community at that). I dropped off my car last night to get tires put on I had them order last week and also scheduled an oil change at that time. It took them until 11am to call me and tell they didn't have the tires. The guy didn't even take the time to look at the appointment book to see I was supposed to get an oil change also. They didn't even get the oil changed until 4:30pm. What was even the point of me dropping my vehicle off to get service done if they aren't even going to finish it until right before they close!!!!??? Set an appointment to change brake pads on my truck. They were kind enough to reschedule as I was out of town and couldn't make it. Was quoted $190 to replace all 4 pads if I supplied the pads. I bought nicer pads. They got the tires off and showed me the rear rotors had "heat warpage". When they showed me, rotor was not warped but had some small, very small discoloration spots. Told me the front rotors were fine. Compared them, looked the same in person and picture comparison. Told me 1 side of the trucks pads had severe uneven wear. Pulled his gauge out and said this pad had 10 mm. I think, the outside had 6. I asked to see the gauge. Put it up to brake pad. The inside had 8, the outside had 7. Smallest of differences so we checked all 4 pads. All similar. The sensors were out. Was told that no one in town had them. Asked to find out when they could have them. Said 5 minutes and the cost was $230. Then tried to tell me the cost for the front axle changing pad labor was $190, the rear would be $220 because they had to use the calibration tool on the sensor. Total cost went from $190 to $640. I said thanks, please put the tires on and we would leave. The manager was rude, kept interrupting, got mad because I made a comment that he told me $190 on the phone. He raised his voice and said they record every conversation would you like to hear. I said yes, then he proceed to berate me and rant saying he tried to tell us the problems but if we did t want to do the right thing they weren't liable. Never made a move to play the phone call. I said I'm ok with the consequences since there was plenty of meat left on the pads. The manager made a remark about not caring about the well being of my family. My daughter was right behind me and you could see her reaction was not good. I told him not to discuss my families well being he continued on. I said just put the wheels back on, and pull the truck out. The conversation was heated. He asked me to step out of the office, we did. I walked over and watched as the mechanic put the wheels back on. The manager was visibly and physically worked up so I said I did not want him touching my truck. He yelled it's their policy to torque the lock nuts before pulling the vehicle out. I said that was fine and the mechanic doing the work was meticulous and conscientious and asked him to continue and to torque the lug nuts. The manager proceeded to argue with me about not wanting him to touch my truck, he said fine, we will pull the truck out and you can go. I said go ahead and violate your policy. He called someone and they directed him to call the police. Keep in mind I did not insult or demean this gentleman or his staff yet I overheard both conversations and he lied in both to his boss and the police. He then closed the garage doors locking my truck inside leaving me and my daughter standing outside in chilly weather. Refused to give me my truck even though I did not owe a penny to Midas. 3 cops cars showed up. I spoke with a sergeant and explained my perspective to him and another officer. Finally, another officer watched while the mechanic torqued my lug nuts. I thanked all 3 for their professional demeanor and the way they conducted themselves. One of the officers thanked me for the way I conducted myself since I was calm and composed. From what I understand after talking to several people, police visit that Midas quite a bit. I was reassured the problem was not me and I had reasonable requests for the manager not touching my truck and wanting my truck back. If I had owed anything I would have paid. I also informed the cops I would never be back there and I was ok being permanently trespassed. I would recommend skipping this place entirely. I would like to give the mechanic stars but the manager should not receive any recognition for good service, quality or honesty. read more

Midas in Peru should be ashamed that they took advantage of a family member of mine who went to them for exhaust work because an exhaust pipe cracked in one area and apparently had an exhaust leak in another area. They told her they could weld in one spot and seal the leak in the other spot, she trusted them to repair the exhaust system and below are pictures of the repair performed. They didn't even put the exhaust pipes in the place where they belong, they rerouted her exhaust under the subframe of the vehicle as you can see in the pictures and had the nerve to charge her over $500.00 for the "repair". The repair on this vehicle was not done correctly so she took it back to them to ask that they do it correctly, which they said they would do, they drove the car into the stall, replaced the shoddy exhaust system, then came out to the waiting area to tell her that her car won't start and they will need to perform diagnostic work to see why it the engine won't crank over at all, after 5 hours they still couldn't figure it out and she had to leave so they can close and they would look at it tomorrow. Car was there all day today and still no answer. At 3pm I asked them to put it outside so I can look at it as I have worked on many cars for over 20 years and if needs be I would have it towed to get it repaired. The manager was rude and said it needs to have an oxygen sensor installed before it can be pushed out but he has other jobs they are working on, I asked him to take a few minutes and install the sensor and let him know that I will come back in an hour if that works for him. I came back an hour and a half later and they didn't do anything to it, then called the cops saying that I was harassing them and ask the police to issue a trespass warning, just insane, another customer came out and said he has been there for 5 hours for one tie rod end...poor service, unprofessionalism, quality of work very poor, when the police asked for the owners name and number the manager wouldn't comply to give the information requested....very shady! I talking with friends about all of this they know of a person who's oil filter fell off after an oil change at this Midas because they didn't tighten it and their engine seized this past month. I find it disturbing that their staff started and drove the car into the stall and that faced with having to fix their poor repair suddenly the car has a no crank/start issue. The Midas store in Peru, IL has been taking my stepson to the cleaners over and over. $2000 for a brake job. Then $3000 for a absolute garbage exhaust system that leaks and scrapes the driveway when he pulls in. Now, about two years later, they get another $1000 for front brakes. From what I understand, new rotors were installed (or at least paid for) with each service. HIS ROTORS COULD NOT HAVE BEEN WORN OUT IN TWO YEARS!!! It's disgusting that you would take advantage of a war veteran, or anyone else for that matter. They even told him his engine needed to be replaced and tried to sell him a used engine. Luckily, he didn't fall for that one. I've begged and pleaded him not to ever take it back there, but for some reason, he'd rather blow a couple grand that to have me help him. I would never allow these self proclaimed mechanics to touch my vehicle again. I had new tires, brakes/rotors installed on my Toyota 4Runner. After installation, the mechanics spent over two (2) hours working on my rear passenger side wheel. I was told the parking brake was being adjusted to alleviate a sound. While driving the next day, I heard a metallic tapping sound. I looked around the vehicle, tightened two loose lug nuts, but, found nothing else. This occurred intermittently and once I heard a loud vibrating sound that lasted a few seconds. I finally pulled the rear wheel that they had worked on and removed the rotor. I discovered the parking brake had failed and was completely destroyed. I took the vehicle back to Midas and was told that by some miraculous coincidence, they believed the pb cable failed causing the brake to engage and destroy itself. Claimed it was impossible that they did anything wrong. Told me any mechanic would say the same and offered to fix it for an additional $525. I took it to another mechanic who found their explanation as foolish as I did. These people are not competent and do not stand behind their work. Anyone allowing them to work on their vehicle is taking a huge risk. read more

I called about having an exhaust system done on my 65 Impala, I was supplying brand new mufflers as I want a certain sound. I told them exactly what I wanted over the phone and was told it would be no problem, and was quoted an estimate of around $400 give or take, so I figured around $500 to be safe. I show up for my appointment and the tech brings me out to the car and wants to know where to put the mufflers, there's a very obvious place they would fit, but I show him anyway. About 10 minutes later I'm called to the desk with an $1186.00 quote! I asked , for what? I'm supplying the mufflers! I'm told, well, it's a lot of work, and the h pipe is really difficult. I said, no it's not, I've had this kind of work done for over thirty years. So then I say to forget the h pipe, just two pipes from the collectors to the rear bumper, mind you again, I'm supplying the mufflers, they come back with $880.00! Then proceeds to tell me to get an exhaust kit for $600 and bring it in. What a joke. I told him that if he didn't want to work, why book the appointment! Wasted my time and gas to drive the 35 miles one way to get jerked around. I will NEVER go back or recommend Midas to anyone, EVER! I've had the same work I asked for done many times where I used to live out west, including mufflers for around $500. This place obviously doesn't have the capability or the desire to do a job that requires them to use a little intelligence and a tubing bender. Only gave one star because I had to give them something. Update: per their response, I gave them my contact information via the request they responded with, a week ago. No response from them. Guess they weren't interested in fixing the problem like they claimed. My business is definitely going elsewhere. read more

I went to get some exhaust work done and they messed everything up. It ended up having leaks in several places and one of the mufflers came out bent so the tip was angled all weird. It also led to one of the hangers rubbing against my sway bar so I had to replace the whole exhaust thanks to them. The manager also commented how the work wasn't good at all and still didn't wouldn't give me a refund. read more

Had a routine oil change there last week. To give credit where it's due, they did change the oil filter and they did re-fill the oil to the full mark - items I've had dealers try to screw me on in the past. Now the complaint. As part of their "safety inspection", the mechanic came out and told me I needed both of my serpentine belts changed as they had deep cracks in them. Because I generally distrust repair shops and know my way around an engine I passed, figuring I would check it out later. Well, 3 days later I did. Found the oil level good and the filter changed, but discovered what I had been curious about - the car has only one serpentine belt(Ford 3.0 liter V-6), and it is pristine. I put a small piece of tape on the belt and blipped the starter several times to ensure I examined the whole thing, and it is spotless. No chips or gouges on the ribbing on the inside, and a pristine out side. The cost for the repair would have been over $300 ($78 per belt, since he claimed there were 2) and $77 for labor for "each" belt - just a pure and simple rip-off. This particular shop changed ownership within the last year, and this is the second time they've done me wrong (the first time they tried to tell me a small valve cover gasket leak would damage the engine irreparably if I didn't spend almost $500 to fix it immediately) after I got years of good service from the prior owner. No third chances. Screw you, Midas. read more

Disappointed in this visit to Midas. I feel like I was mislead. Whether it was intentional I can't say but it ended up costing me twice what an oil change normally cost. After they started the oil change, I was told that my car required synthetic oil. I didn't think this sounded right since I was never told that before. The service person insisted that was correct so I felt like I had no choice. When I got home I checked my owners manual and as I suspected it did not require synthetic. Not sure if he just wanted to sell the more expensive oil or if he honestly didn't know, but either is not acceptable. read more

I stopped going to Midas over a year ago when Tim Johnson was the manager after Jay Parsons retired. Tim knew nothing about vehicles and therefore I stopped going. They have a new manager Jason Mueck. It is nice to know that they FINALLY have another manager that actually knows how to work on vehicles. Recently had work done on 2 vehicles. There was an interim manager for a bit and he handled things ok. There was some confusion during that time while the interim manger was leaving and handing things off to Matt the new manger, and let me tell you Matt handled it professionally and with integrity. Excellent customer service! My mom and I were on our way back to Chicago when our car's brakes started making loud noises. As we entered, we noticed the sign said they closed at 6pm. However, Larry (the man who owns the shop) didn't seem too concerned about time. He took our car for a test and found out we needed new break pads. Instead of telling us to come back tomorrow or "sorry I'm closed," Larry said he could fix it for us. Within a short amount of time, my mom's car was all set and safe to drive home. I highly recommend this Midas because of how Larry went above and beyond! read more

We ended up having a broken wheel bearing while we were on vacation and they were able to fix the car in under an hour! Unbelievable service, very fast and reasonably priced. Larry and his associates got everything done ASAP even at a 430 on a Saturday. Keep up the good work! read more
