Took my car here earlier in the year for sneaking on my breaks, left with even more problems plus almost 2K short. They replaced the brakes and my rotors, but now every time I run over bumps in the road, theres a clinking that you hear. I had them fixed it again but the same thing was happening. So I took it to Seaside and the clinking stopped for a little bit, but the problem came back almost instantly. I took it to another shop here in Salinas and they told me that the rotors were placed on loosely and that the break pads were also put on incorrectly. Both locations had also recommended that I update my suspensions, which was Midas reason for the cause of the clinking after I did that the clinking is still there. Things change. People change. Corporations change personnel and policies, and perfect their profiteering. Sadly, that's the case we've found in the last couple of visits to Midas. Jorge reportedly died during the pandemic. Jeff left to find other employment. The current pair of Roberts do the "oops, we miscommunicated" dance very well. Not only were we over the barrel for an alternator replacement necessitated on a Saturday (and needing somewhere we knew would be open to receive AAA's delivery of the vehicle), when I hiked to Midas to pick up the vehicle Monday morning, having been told by the second Robert that it was ready, he claimed that they'd been instructed not to replace the faulty battery. But for another $300 they could get me out the door within a half an hour. In short - the quote by the first Robert of just over a thousand dollars on Saturday became $1509+, minus a $100 coupon the second Robert provided "to make up for the misunderstanding." I don't think there was a misunderstanding. It seemed like intentional miscommunication in order to pocket nearly 150% of what online pricing services suggest the cost should have been. We miss Jorge and Jeff. But I imagine that Midas' corporate sales strategists like the two Roberts much better. And we're in the market for a mechanic. read more

I've been here a number of times from changing brakes to doing an oil change. Although they've done a great job with the past jobs, i had an appointment Saturday for noise on my wheel and it took all day to figure out what it was and told me to bring it in on Monday again to re check it. The appointment today at 9am once again took all day again even after I asked how long it would take which they said about an hour, hour and a half. Definitely some lack of communication. Don't see the reason to schedule appointments if they're still going to take all day with the vehicle in the shop. read more

Getting an oil change and my tires checked here was like a bad dream that never ends. Long post, which if you don't read it, bottom line they are incompetent. I went Friday afternoon, and they didn't seem that busy. They told me it would be 1.5 hours so I said okay, I'll wait. Had a book, and wasn't in a rush. But then an hour and 20 passed and they only had just gotten my car to start working on it. Two hours pass and I see the employees just standing around, on their cellphones, no one working on any cars. I ask the manager what the hold up was. He checked and came back to ask me if I knew where the wheel lock key was. I didn't, so he said that's fine; when I found it to come back for a tire rotation... What would have been their next steps if I wasn't there to tell them? At this point, I thought they were going to get me my car back. Nope, another 15 minutes passed, and still the employees were chit chatting, standing around. The manager went to check again. He said they're going to get your car down right now. We finalized paperwork, and he gave me a discount because I waited so long, which was the least they could do. So I get in my car, and notice that the tire pressure light was still on. I go back inside and ask if they made sure my tire pressure was okay. The manager asked the guys and they said they checked one tire, and STOPPED checking the other tires because they weren't doing the rotation anymore. What?! So I had to pull in and have them check the pressure and fill the tires with air. Another 10 minutes. At this point, I've run out of patience. And yesterday, I'm on the freeway, and I hear a noise coming from under the engine. I pull over and my partner checks underneath the car. Apparently, they broke one clip off the protective plate, and only secured the sides, and not the front and back. Honestly. How incompetent they are! They obviously don't care about their job to be so careless with their service and work. Good thing we had some wire in the car and we were able to MacGyver that sh*t. I should be able to trust my mechanic to do their job without so much follow up. Today, my partner brings the car into the shop for an 8am appointment, the first one of the day and they STILL took 45 minutes to screw in the plate. The employees were sweeping, watching my partner through the window, and doing everything except doing what should've taken 5 minutes if even that, ESPECIALLY since it was the first customer of the day. No wonder they're always running behind. They have no sense of urgency. And then the manager said that all they forgot was to put in one screw, which is a lie because my partner went underneath the car and had to put wires where it was hanging. Can you imagine if that plate fell off while we were on the freeway?! The employees are only as good as the manager and the manager seems to just let his employees run the show here. The techs are very pleasant in Salinas and the shop is well maintained and clean. I've had my oil changed there before and this, the second time, they only added four quarts. While driving home, my engine light came on...low on oil. I had to purchase and add just shy of a quart. So much for saving on an oil change with their coupon! read more

Let me first start this off by saying I scheduled an appointment over the phone the day before for 11am. I work evenings and since my Wife was off work today this was the perfect day and time to do this. Today, I received 2 calls before my scheduled appointment saying this Midas is understaffed today and wait times could be a little longer than normal. Sure no problem I was initially given instead of a normal hour time frame to complete an oil change it will be 2 maybe 2.5hrs. Sure I told myself that's no problem! I go in on time to drop my car off. Midas was kind enough to still offer me a shuttle ride home while being short staffed, which I do appreciate! On the ride home I explained to the manager that I have to leave my house at 5 for work. Fast forward 3.5hrs later and I haven't heard back from Midas about my car. I call and get told that my car isn't ready, hasn't even been started, and won't be ready until 5pm! That would be 6HOURS for a scheduled appointment that should max take an hour. On top of that I already informed the manager who gave me a ride home that I leave at 5pm for work. How on earth would me picking my car up when I have to go to work make any sense! Had he simply said that from the beginning I would've went back and picked my car and went on with my day. I told the manager I don't have the time to wait and pick my car up at 5 and the manager says "I told you we were short staffed. We had 2 people call out today." Okay why not explain that better BEFOREHAND and say my oil change will take 6hrs, not 1/2/3hrs as described earlier! I could've taken my car somewhere else and waited with it for it done in a shorter amount of time than this. I have been coming to this Midas for years (8+ years) and have never experienced this kind of service. Until management can get things turned around I won't ever be coming back. Normally I am not a Midas Fan, but the one on 227 John St is not the Norm, Robert and his staff took care of my precious Auto and honored their price point. They were efficient and found a few things that needed to be done, however they showed and asked me first before making any repairs. Came here for a car alignment Wednesday morning. Jeff was great with scheduling my appointment and he even worked with me when I showed up a few minutes late. Really good customer service. Jeff also helped explain how alignments worked and I learned a lot. My only criticism is that I was quoted around $80 over the phone but then was charged $109 at checkout. Also, I could not connect to their WiFi to get some work done while I waited. Overall good experience though and if you make an appointment you should be in and out within an hour! read more

I was hoping this would be my go to place and it was good at first but the 3 or 4th visit they let me down. Took my car in for a transmission service. Usually that involves changing the fluid basically.the check engine light had come on but was then off again. I gave them the code anyway. They kept my car over night without calling me. Said they were running tests on it and charged a lot for that. Then finally called me the next day to tell me they had to look for the code . I already gave that to them. And it went away on its own. Why did they need to find it again . Charged me 60.00 for the fluid. An enormous amount for labor. I have no idea what they actually did. My bill was over $400.00 Something I really didn't need but would have to recover from. I'm disappointed.and frustrated that I now had to find yet another mechanic. Went Midas April 3,2023 to service my Nissan and I m a long time customer. So when my car was done I didn't look at the paperwork and assumed they took care of what I requested. But when got home I reread my paperwork and I noticed they did extra without asking me and the counter guy said we figured you want it done . This cost me an extra $100.00 . My front passenger tire blew on the freeway approximately 6 miles from this Midas location. After inspecting my car I noticed that all of the tires needed to be replaced. I called and talked to Robert who was extremely helpful and went above and beyond my expectation. He said that he didn't have tires for my car available at his store but that he would be happy to have them brought over from one of his nearby locations. Just an ok service. I feel rushed when I ask Jorge questions. Every customers have the right to ask questions so they know what is wrong with the car and how much they are paying for and why. Jorge told me has customers in line in the shop while i'm on the phone asking quick questions. Don't you think I'm also a customer??? They did not even refilled my windshield wiper fluid and my coolant. After an oil change. It didn't feel the oil was changed. Hopefully they did not forget. Paid for $70 for their "synthetic oil". After five days my battery stopped working. And they want me to come over and pay $30 for battery check up. I went to autozone and have it checked. Need to be replaced. I should have known I was in trouble when the shuttle driver started substituting for everyone else and acting like he knew how to do their jobs better then they could. Wasted two more days on an urgent repair so they could tell me they had the wrong part. Two types of repair shops to avoid are the ones that convince you to buy stuff you don't need,like a new muffler. The muffler guarantee only covers the part, but labor costs are really high. l and the ones that give the car back to you with something else wrong with it, like Green Phoenix. Or, in this case, an engine that stalls at the lights and they tell you nothing else is wrong with it and they didn't change that part of the car. The service manager Jorge Zamora was very kind, honest, and upfront with me about the issues with my car. What I appreciate the most is that he didn't treat me different because I am a woman. He was open and honest with me about what I needed to do, and he stressed the urgency of getting it done because my safety and wellbeing was at risk. The mechanic also showed me the problems under the car while it was up on the rack, so I had a better understanding. I will be taking my car back for all repairs. Love this Midas and Jorge! Yesterday while I was driving around Salinas a HORRIBLE screeching sound roared from under my car. It sounded so bad that I didnt want to chance driving even another mile. I dropped the car off at this Midas. They were slammed, but they were still able to assess what was wrong with it within a few hours, and had the work done shortly thereafter. I had a rock lodged in my braking system. They could have totally ripped me off, but only charged me $30 for the diagnostic & removal. read more
