My very first time in downtown Pleasanton and of course the first 2 places we stopped at were so busy as expected on a Saturday night. We end up at here at Middle 8. Crystal was running around taking care of everyone and even though it took a few minutes she made sure to let us know when she would be able to help us. She made our experience so much better than the other places just by acknowledging us. Great drinks, great vibes , and more importantly great service. First thing, I love the aesthetic of this bar. Definitely need more of this in the area, it's dark, nice decor, somewhere to go out, have a drink, maybe dance...that being said, this place has SO MUCH POTENTIAL and I feel like it's wasted. Drinks were fine, bartenders were okay, music was so lame. I sat at the bar and it took strangely long to get my order taken. I almost felt judged going in here, not the best vibes. Vibe here is pretty awesome. If you don't look for it, you will easily miss this place like we almost did. Although we had some drinky drink inside of us at this point. Walking in to this place was so refreshing. It's dark, had some relics of the past, people interacting, music going off, and a sweet pool table in back. That's where we settled. I don't know why but my buddy got me a Manhattan. It was ok. Not my first choice. I prefer an ole fashioned any day of the week. But started to shoot some pool and got schooled by my buddy. What an amazing experience! The front bar has an amazing vibe with their blue lit bar, good music selection, friendly bar staff, and amazing drinks. The front room has it all with tables, lounge areas, dance floor, and a pool table with the back VIP room being a more class old school retro party vibe with a TV playing older cartoons which adds a unique feeling. The drinks are all amazing and Savren who was making drinks for us in the back executed each drink perfectly to our tastes. If you aren't from Pleasanton, it is worth the drive! I moved downtown Pleasanton in October of 2022 and I love it her here. I have made some great friendships through going to the local bars and restaurants and sitting at the bar tops. Middle 8 has been my favorite because of the amazing vibes but the difference maker has been the bartenders. They are very friendly and welcoming. Drinks are consistent and delicious. I want to especially point out Elisha as she has been my go to bartender. She is amazing and has introduced me to other local regulars and is always asking me about what's going on in my life and most importantly makes a great old fashion and whiskey sour. We attended a birthday party in the back room of the Middle 8 & had a blast! The venue was great for our group with plenty of spots for photo ops. as well as space to chat or dance a bit. The music was a vibe & the drinks were so good. We loved the bartender, Sav, in the back room. She made awesome drinks that were quick, delicious & pretty. Something is wrong here, where a 2-oz pour of Grey Goose costs $16. An entire bottle is only 2 bucks more. To boot, the olives were old, mushy and bitter. Our server took the little plastic container out of the reach-in, and she handled them with her fingers to show her manager. He ate one and basically blew me off. Then when she brought her iPad over to tell us what we owed, and I asked what my drink cost, I gasped. She laughed and said, yeah, it's expensive here. No kidding! Based on the stark minimalism of the joint, the owner is gouging us in order to buy artwork to spruce up the place. Don't know if it was the owner or a bartender but whoever got me drinks was a huge dick. he was super old and had white hair. Tried asking how much a drink was and he responds "this isn't the type of place where you ask how much a drink is - it's too nice for that." yea for sure, your Pleasanton shithole bar where the tables are filthy and the couches are torn up is "real nice". The art in the room was nice, they have 2 pianos in the entrance and disco balls on their ceilings, it was definitely an 80's vibe. I ordered the Mezcal which i've never tried before and I don't think I will ever have it again. It just wasn't for me. My friend asked for tequila and sprite and she got something different. It was a let down. The bartender only showed us one menu, when we asked her what is on tap she never offered to show us that menu which was a let down and we didn't find out until we decided to leave. So make sure u ask to see both menus not just their specialty drinks. Oh and also when my friend went to close her tab someone had already closed it and included their tip on there, not sure if it was a bartender or a customer since they just give you the ipad to close your tab. read more
