Have to say very pleased with my decision to dine here (shout out to Billy for the great service and food recommendation). Menu is ROBUST, packed with bar classics you expect, but elevated. Different daily specials and the prices for all their food items are beyond reasonable especially given the quality. I ordered the Super Dip and it was quite tasty (note; the sourdough they serve it on is phenomenal, just perfect for dipping). Roast beef is just that, roasted in-house. The sunshine saloon ! Wow . I love this name . It is located in the city of Pleasanton with pool tables , bar , loud music and good food . I love the menu with a good sections of salads , burger and main entry. Love the daily dinner specials, especially the prime rib on Saturday and T bone on Sunday ! Can't you tell that I am a meat person ! I also love their mixed green salad with avocado . You can add chicken , salmon or shrimp . Of course , I cannot resist the crab Louie salad . They were hustling with the plethora of food orders. The place was busy with their regulars and the attendees who were there to support Goodness Village. As usual, the food was amazing, totally homemade quality from carefully developed recipes. This time it was the oven baked fried chicken. The chicken was so falling apart tender with a deep savory coating that makes chicken fun again. A buttered fried sourdough toast and baked potato wedges and salad, all way beyond franchise anything. However, our last visit a few weeks ago went horribly. It was a weekend around 11am, not busy, nice day- so we sat outside. The waiter who served us was TERRIBLE- a short, brown haired man. We got our menus and it took him 20 minutes for him to come back and take our drink order (ice water and iced tea). Basically threw my drink on the table and it splashed on me. Didn't bring sweetener for the tea, when I asked for it he was just walking away and not listening to me. Had to ask twice for it. Took him 40 minutes for us to get our food order in... at this point we were questioning even staying. Every time I communicated with this waiter, he would walk away as I was talking. Super disrespectful!! And this is why you got $0 tip, for horrible service. Ruining the good culture of Sunshine is a shame and this dude needs to do BETTER. Very comfortable and friendly. Shuffleboard and pool tables make for a good time even if your not an alcoholic. Varied ages - you can be 21 or 40 and be totally comfortable. I've been going here now for nearly two decades. I guess I just gave away my age - and I shouldn't have as I still have some boyish good looks and get occasionally carded. At any rate, I consider myself an expert and fully qualified to write a review - been here on NYE and St Patrick's day for corned beef dinner and any odd night in-between. Once I even ended up here during a trivia night by accident. In the day time it gives off cozy restaurant vibes - on a Friday night there is a DJ and a dance floor - so there is something for everybody. The second room is all the game stuff and much nicer if you come with a group of friends. If your single and on the prowl stay on the other side. There are lots of ladies there on the market - nails done, hair done everything done done. Once I came on trivia night. And that is something I like to stay away from. My knowledge is odd and a lot of pop culture stuff I have no idea about - in fact I think its been 15 years since I really watched much TV. Anywho, I found myself here and met a guy who was blind - blind since day one on this earth. I was touched how the bartender took such good care of him. I suppose that is the main takeaway here - she really went out of her way. And I've noticed that always for all the patrons. I got to know him a little and tried to describe things to him unsuccessfully as there was nothing he could really have as a benchmark for. I told him on the sly that his little bartender friend was cute - but again - what that meant for him is probably very different from what that means to most other guys out there. I thought, maybe the bartender liked being liked for other reasons than the obvious. Another bartender I had known there for years I think moved to Hawaii?? I've got nothing but love for the Sunshine Saloon. It's been the setting of some really amazing memories over the years. I love going on Friday and Saturday nights for karaoke. The staff specifically working those days are truly amazing and they always make me feel welcome even though I wouldn't consider myself "a regular." On the rare occasion I'm lucky enough to make it in before the kitchen closes, I'm sure to order something because their food is excellent. My only complaint is that I wish they kept the kitchen open later, but I understand. read more

They're a no frills restaurant and bar serving up great American food. I've tried a number of things on their menu over the years but here's my favorite: - The burgers are the best. My go-to is the California Burger which is served with cheese, bacon and avocado. The bacon and avocado portions are huge. - Their Jalapeño poppers are a good app Choice. appear to be fresh Jalapeños stuffed with cream cheese, seasoning and wrapped in a big piece of bacon. - You can't go wrong with any of their fried sides. They do them right. - If you're in the mood for breakfast, theirs is solid. Huge portions. Cooked right and reasonably priced. I'm a fan of the linguica and eggs and usually get them with a side of hashbrowns. If you're a beer drinker they have a large variety on tap and rotate out some seasonal options too. Good old fashioned dive bar like where I hung out growing up in Cleveland. The food is decent for a dive bar and they have a good selection. Nothing fancy but it works when you're drinking. Service is 50/50. Out last two trips in there were errors both times. I'm not sure when the mistake occurs. For instance on the last trip, we ordered bacon wrapped jalapeños. The waitress was writing as I ordered and she repeated it back to me. We then were given bacon wrapped shrimp. So my son invited me to hangout with his friends and sing karaoke at the bar in Pleasanton, so I met him there.... I guess the crows feet gave it away that I was over 21 bc I didn't get carded lol. Location was easy to find, my son ordered me a mango shake with rum and it was sooo yummy! My son ordered the baked potato skins, and garlic parmesan fries and both of them were delicious. Service was quick, responsive and welcoming. We got in the queue and my son and I got to sing a song together for the first time... More than Words by Extreme and we killed it! Thursday evenings are Trivia night at 'The Shine'. This is a great place where if everybody doesn't know your name they are friendly and will soon. Besides Trivia Thursday's are Roasted Chicken Dinner Special night which includes nicely Roasted chicken, Roasted potatoes and some Ceaser Salad at a price that can't be touched anywhere that I know of. But last night I wasn't quite that hungry. As usual, Sara brought my regular beverage (ginger ale) and helped me figure out what I'd have for dinner as an alternative to the chicken special. Tough choice as everything on their menu is good. A said I 'kinda' wanted the French Dip but didn't really want all the bread. Sara suggested making it a wrap. I then said I didn't really want fries (I'm eating healthier these days) and she said I could have mashed potatoes (oooh with gravy). These were real mashed potatoes, not out of a box or powder bag. They even had some bits of skin proving they were real Wow! The wrap still came with au jus to dip it in (yesss). And the wrap was a lot less messy as all the meat stayed inside. Not very many restaurants much less sports bars would be so accommodating and helpful, but this is why Sunshine Saloon in Pleasanton has been around since the late 80s. read more

This was the smartest move I have made so far in 2022. Service here is off the charts. We had three waiters somehow and everyone hustled and made sure we had everything we needed. The bar keep makes a mean Mai Tai and you should be warned it is not for the faint of heart. It is flammable and if I was 17 again I would be hitting this over and over with my fake id. The burger is large and in charge. I ordered with yellow cheese and the guy gave me choices for which kind of yellow cheese! Fries are light and not greasy. They strongly resemble the fries from Jack in the box but with seasoning on them. They are exact opposite of the fries from both BBD and McDonalds. Ambience is great. This place looks like a pretty chill place to hang out, a really great sports bar and restaurant, large screen TVs and projectors, great for watching sports on multiple walls, and even karaoke at the same time (which they did on a Friday night), and according to the signs they also have other events on different nights, ie. Trivia. The food was amazing! I got the grilled fresh dungeness crab w/ onion rings, and my friend got the breakfast burger w/ fries. In all honesty I wanted to eat both it looked so good when it was served! Hot, fresh, cheesy, fresh veggies on the side, and good portions. And it tasted even better than it looked. That crab sandwich was so delicious, didn't taste like cheap imitation crab, the cheese was melty and plentiful so it was like a deluxe grilled cheese sandwich and crab melt all in one. The onion rings, though a bit greasy (as expected), had the perfect consistency and crisp, not overly battered, not falling apart, and so flavorful (some of the best onion rings I've had). I'd definitely return just for this dish, but honestly most of the stuff on the menu looked good. The place wasn't really poppin around 8pm on a Friday night, but that was fine.. good spot for dinner and drinks before a show. It's a bit of an older crowd, not many millenials, and everyone seemed really chill, friendly, and I'd guess that most customers were regulars here. It definitely had a hometown feel. The venue is huge and spacious, indoor and outdoor seating, plus 2 connected rooms inside, with shuffleboard and a pool table on one side. The restaurant was a bit dated, but there was lots of great sports memorabilia and decor all around on the walls and ceiling. When we entered, it was a bit confusing how to get seated and took a while till we were aknowledged. After seating ourselves, it also was a bit of a wait till someone helped us. This is Sports Bar located in a shopping mall filled with small shops, offices, restaurants and a charity (cancer) Thrift Shop. It's near the middle of this mall and a bit hard to find. At this time, they have take out, delivery and dine in. But, they are presently putting an outdoor patio that should be completed by the end of November. When you walk in, you know your in a Sport Bar. The walls all around the room have large screen TVs hung on the wall. The decor is typical bar stuff. Their menu is fairly varied with more items offered than most Sport Bars. The food seems to be pretty good and I noticed that there were a fair number of older people and families with kids. The customer base seems quite varied, as well. I was having lunch with an old tennis friend so it was just the two of us. The dining room is quite large with an mixed assortment of rectangular and large round tables. Some of the smaller tables were high tables with high chairs to match the table height. The food menu is a single sheet, printed both sides and plastic laminated for durability. The drinks menu is similarly single page, laminated but smaller in size and yellow in color. I met my friend at 11:30 AM and it was nearly deserted but it filled up quickly. They had nearly a full house by Noon. And this was a Tuesday weekday. I had a Grilled Pastrami on Rye ($13.95). It comes with choice of French Fries, Onion Rings, Salad, fruit, or Coleslaw. I chose the Onion Rings. It was a decent Pastrami sandwich - not too lean nor too fatty. My friend chose a Denver Omelette ($15.95). It's made with Diced ham, roasted red mild peppers, green onions, and cheddar cheese and comes with hash browns. He runs a good show on Fri & Sat, though it only goes from 8:30-11:00. The food seems to suck. My tri-tip sandwich ($16+tax) was pretty dry, unappetizingly flavored, and came paired with generic sour fries. At least there was a lot of it? The crowd is decidedly un-Bay Area like. One guy followed up his karaoke song by shouting a pro-Trump, pro-military rant into the mic, which was met with cheers from the audience. This was consistent with people's song choices that night, which hovered around 50% country music. Service was nice. read more

Sunday my family and I came here for breakfast. After sitting at a dirty table for 10 minutes, a waitress comes up to us at the outside seating and boldly told us we were being carded. Our ages were 19 to 83, My daughter-in-law told the waitress her son was not 21 but we were not ordering liquor, just breakfast.
