Been trying to explore more local karaoke spots and glad I checked this place out! Karaoke on Thursday nights, decent drinks, and friendly locals. The people who run this place keep this place tidy and clean as evidenced by how quickly they cleared my glass and the cleanliness of the bathrooms. I missed the rock n' roll memo, but amazingly talented singers including the KJ himself. The sound system can be pretty loud especially the bass, so ended up keeping my ear plugs in. My only major reservation is how the karaoke queue is managed. Couldn't help but notice the bartenders and some patrons who generously tipped got to sing multiple times in a row. One of the patrons tipped $20 and sang three songs in a row. In comparison, I got one song in in the span of three hours. I kind of expected the place to start clearing out after midnight but ppl stuck around and seemed to be having a good time. If you're not into rock n' roll/metal karaoke, they also have pool, shuffleboard, and darts. I do like the KJ and the patrons here, though in the future, I'll just set the expectation that I'll get one song in and set a curfew for myself. read more

Went out to enjoy a drink and some karaoke and ended up getting kicked out in a way that felt excessive, confusing, and disrespectful. There was no clear reason given and no attempt to talk things through--just immediate removal. I will never be back. I've been coming here regularly for over a year and this situation was handled very poorly. The bartender asked another customer to physically push me out, which escalated things and almost caused a fight. That customer was visibly drunk. Earlier, a random intoxicated person told me to close my tab and leave; I said okay, but given how drunk he was, I told the bartender she should call the police. Instead of handling it professionally, I was kicked out. If there is video footage, I strongly encourage the owner to review it. I'm genuinely confused about what just happened. I'm a local, I've consistently tipped around 25%, and I've never had an issue before. I also observed what appeared to be underage patrons being served alcohol. IDs should be checked more carefully. Still love this place, it's so great to have a cool neighborhood pub. The ambiance is bad ass, the service is always on point. There is just a great vibe and hellllllo home of The Merkins! I do wish they would add an NA menu, I really don't drink much alcohol, my body hates me even after one or two; but I am loving craft non-alc drinks (maybe some adaptogens), like Ocean Beach Cafe offers. I stopped by the Back Lounge on a Thursday karaoke night, and overall it was a fun experience. The bartenders were hands-down the best part--friendly, entertaining, and I loved that they sang along while serving drinks. They really carried the night. Unfortunately, I had to drop my rating for one reason: the DJ's girlfriend. Instead of adding to the atmosphere, she spent the night glaring at every woman who walked in (unless she already knew them). It created an unwelcoming vibe and made guests--especially women--hesitant to even put in requests. It's hard to understand why performers bring along clingy plus-ones or why management allows that kind of energy in the first place. At one point, I even gave her a genuine compliment on her singing voice, which somehow came across as an insult to her. A confident, secure woman might have used it to build engagement and hype up the show. Instead, it felt like "karaoke night featuring your boyfriend's watchdog." The bar itself has potential, and the staff is fantastic--but if the goal is a fun, inviting karaoke night, the side-eye routine from the sidelines definitely misses the mark. read more

Apparently if your girlfriend is the bartender then you can hog the pool table forever. If you complain to bartender that the drinks paying customers want to play with their own friends then the boyfriend of bartender will pay for the pool table and just stand and not play. This is the new trend that you have to play with the boyfriend of the bartender who is getting free drinks otherwise you cannot play by yourself . May be the owner or manager of this dive bar should look into this if their goal is provide entertainment to the paying customers and not just the boyfriends of the bartender. read more

The back lounge's ambiance is only rivaled by the impeccable personality of the two best bartenders in America, Bita and Sam. If you haven't been to the back lounge you haven't lived your life. Love this place! Odd location surrounded by auto repair shops, but has a great rock n roll vibe inside. Bartenders are great. Decor is cool: light fixtures over bar are made from drumsticks--some signed by bands like Metallica. Lights over pool tables are made from drums.(see pics) read more

The Back Lounge, formerly Evie's, is a fun little spot to get your drink on, play pool, or darts. We stop here every year on our pub crawl fundraiser. The bartenders are really nice, and so are the patrons. There is a very comfortable vibe, it's welcoming, not at all stuffy, and I instantly feel like having a seat and hanging out. Last year two guys asked me why we all had matching shirts, I explained what we were up to, and they bought Jell-O shots for our entire group. They were quite tasty btw! Never been to a bar worst than this. The 2 young girls bartending disappear for a long period of time. Sat for about 10 mins when I walked in wondering where the bartender was before both girls walked out the back. As a GM of 4 bar with a restaurant attached, you could make more money if your bartenders 1- knew how to make drinks. 2- were present. read more

This is a solid dive bar type. Small place, two pool tables, one interactive dart board. Plenty of TV's in there for game days. I would avoid going there on (presumably by experience) Thursdays as there is karaoke night (unless you enjoy that). In the years I've been a semi-regular there, I've never once seen a barkeep there who made me wonder how they got hired and/or how they've stayed on and/or how anyone puts up with them. I know nothing about business management strategy, but I'm pretty sure that consistently excellent staffing doesn't happen by accident. Today I walked in the bar and sat for 5 minutes without acknowledgement from the female bartender, as she talked away with one customer unable to multitask and scan the room for new customers or others in need. I was a bartender for years, I knew how to be efficient and multitask. I then decided to go to the restroom which I left after 5 minutes only to come back to a still ongoing conversation with her blinders on apparently. After more 2 minutes of sitting, I walk to the other end of bar and said can I get a drink? She knew I was upset and instantly got an attitude and said she did not see me in last 10 minutes and that she's never seen me before as an excuse. She then played the victim blaming her leg in a cast for not seeing me as if her eyes and ability to be observent of front door ( directly in front of her at the time) and say hi, had to do with her injury(Gaslight much?)she said she went to the back which I saw but she was only the one minute and I came before that occurred. Because I called her out, she said to put down my drink she had made me and get out after giving back credit card. This girl will be costing you business from a previous bar owner perspective but it's your bar. I like to drink at a variety of places. From upscale wineries to places where you may share the bar with people who are considering faking their own death and moving to Alaska. This is definitely a bit more of the latter. It's in a very weird location on an awkward street, but that is sort of part of the charm. If it was in some super hip part of town (does that really exist in Dublin tho?!) it would lose it's random appeal. I personally love the beer spot down the street but sometimes need to turn it up a notch with some whiskey. It's dimly lit, smart move. Total local bar vibe. Don't go in anything more than casual. Okay, it's a dive bar. I grew up in this area and TBH didn't even know there was a bar here, let alone one that has been here since I was a kid. Being from a state that loves their cigarettes, I was pleasantly surprised to walk into a place like this and only smell cleaning supplies.
