I wasn't impressed. The food is incredibly expensive. The store is shabby and I think running on a swamp cooler which in Phoenix in June was pretty tough. It was pretty warm in there. My total bill came to $24.38 and I ordered the beef Shawarma plate and a piece of baklava. I think that is incredibly expensive for what I received which was greasy overcooked meat and a container and a small side salad. It also came with a small pita, and a very small side of hummus. I do not recommend the beef Shawarma. It was awful. It was greasy, overcooked and full of gristle. I also did not like the seasoning. I did really enjoy the piece of bread it came with and the baklava was ok. I didn't care for the hummus at all. It was very bland. The salad that came with my beef was the best thing but the salad dressing they gave me was all oil. I don't know if they forgot to shake it before they put it in the container, but it was just grease. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing. Given how incredibly expensive it was, and how much I really did not like the main part of my meal, I can't recommend it. read more

My first time coming here. My cousin raves about it. It has been here for 40+ years family owned. I literally live five minutes away and I drove by it all the time. I finally got to enjoy an early dinner, and I was not disappointed at all. Friendly family. Everything is made fresh as you order. I truly enjoyed my spanakopita. It's one of my favorite dishes. Their Greek salad was so fresh and with lots of onions that I enjoy :-) I tried my cousins grilled chicken and it was absolutely delicious. I had their homemade lemonade. I just had the most amazing, soft, tasty pita breads, and they were gluten free! They were so soft and chewy, and I don't know what sorcery this is, but I just had one of the best gluten free and dairy free meals I have had in a looong time. I tried their hummus plate with meat, which features deliciously seasoned ground beef, tomatoes and cucumbers over hummus. My sister had a pita sandwhich and also loved it! This is a little hole-in-the-wall place that I hope continues to thrive for decades to come, and which I will be adding to my Phoenix visitation rounds. Definitely add Middle Eastern to your list. They also have an entire cooler full of gluten free sweet pitas, breads and meat pies, as well as a market. I might need to go back for those meat pies... read more

This cozy bakery was just across the street from where we were staying, so we walked over for dinner our first night in town. Location is a bit dated and dusty but well organized with a good selection of imported goods and house-made items. Order at register in back for the restaurant menu, which is surprisingly large. We shared the kabob combo plate (beef, chicken, lamb, with rice and salad), the labneh appetizer, and a piece of the spanakopita. The plate was a good portion size for the price ($14), everything was pretty tasty but the lamb was my favorite, chicken was dry but well seasoned. The labneh was generously portioned, seemed to have been made in house, served with pita. Spanakopita could have used more filling. After eating, we browsed the shop. I made a mental note to return for some of the zataar pita chips, the eggplant spread, and a few other goodies but unfortunately they are closed Sundays and I missed my opportunity. TIP: They sell authentic Bulgarian feta in the deli case, in brine, by the pound. This is difficult to find! read more

Wonderful family-owned and operated market and restaurant in the encanto/midtown area. They've been in the same location for over 55 years! I've had most of the menu items but I'm partial to the chicken and mixed grill dishes. As with most restaurants it's best to stay and dine in, but take out is always convenient. They're excellent about taking to go orders over the phone. Don't forget a beverage! The fresh lemonade is made with rose water and honey. I highly recommend this place for fresh, healthy food. This review is 2 years over due. Two years ago we traveled to Phoenix and discovered the Middle Eastern Bakery. We recently visited Phoenix this month- April 2021. It is hands down the best middle eastern food we have ever had (and that's saying a lot from New Yorkers). The gyro platter, lemonade, pita and baklava (especially the birds' nest) is to die for. In a one week trip, we visited about 6 times and took food in our carry-on bags. While the food is exceptional, the best reason to go is for the owners. Isam and his wife started Middle Eastern Bakery ages ago, and their smiling faces will make you feel immediately at home. Anyone who is lucky enough to share a coffee and baklava will surely do what we do--- recommend Middle Eastern Bakery to everyone who goes within a 200 miles radius of Phoenix. read more

I was taken back by the price at first, but when you are shopping for exotic baked goods, you appreciate quality and pay accordingly. This batch of flakey pastry that we encountered was truly made with love. We got a small assortment and the pastries with the big chunks of pistachio are my favorite. Went there for lunch today with a friend. She had a large salad, which had a couple of cucumber pieces, couple of tomatoes, and only one Kalamata olive. No feta cheese Overall, it was quite bland could have made a better salad at home for a lot cheaper. I had the gyro sandwich- meat was horrible & mushy - a light color - never saw a lamb gyro look like that - but kept an open mind. The sandwich was covered in some kind of glop - and no feta cheese‍ total waste of money. We also ordered a side of the Spanakopita - small portion for the money & mostly just a pile of phyllo and not very good at all. We ordered a piece of baklava for dessert again six bucks for a very small portion of mostly phyllo & skimpy on the filling. Sadly, we will not be back. Prices are high, portions are small & fillings are poor quality. read more

The best Middle Eastern food in Phoenix, hands down. I love their eggplant sandwich, their lemonade, and their avgolemono soup. I'm in their store/restaurant/bakery at least once every two weeks to buy pita bread - usually some baklava as well. I go out of my way for it because it's THAT delicious. The hummus is amazing, the gyro sandwich is so juicy, and the tzatziki is chock-full of cucumber and dill. It says "Bakery" on the sign, but there are plenty of tables to sit down at. They're always clean and tidy. The service is always spectacular too: family run (check out the pictures on the counter), friendly, and always willing to go the extra mile. It's rare to find this level of attentiveness in the hustle and bustle of Phoenix. I am so happy to support this local business. Looking forward to my next visit! read more

I may have ordered the wrong things but I was not impressed with this place. I have come here twice and after much conflict, I feel I must write an honest review despite his being a family owned facility. I really think this can be a cleaner, more enjoyable experience with better value. I ordered the vegetarian platter with kibbe. Somehow my order was over $15. The platter mentioned it came with either Greek salad or tabouleh and pita. I asked for the salad. The order that I got was paltry. I got 4 falafels, on the smaller side, one triangle of spinach pie, 4 dolmehs and small "ketchup cups" of humus, baba ghanoush and tzatziki. The kibbe side I got was cold in the middle, clearly microwaved. I asked for my Greek salad, the hostess said it did not come with it. I did enjoy the baba ghanoush and the dolmehs were hand made. But I left hungry and unimpressed that I got cold kibbe and 4 falafel balls. Perhaps, I could have ordered something like a kabob platter but for pretty basic middle eastern food this place could not get my order right. That is too bad. read more

One of my go to's for Med foods. Small little deli with small assortments of goods and food stuffs. Go after the lunch rush and order their lemonade only because it tastes strange. Seriously. I think it's a powder because it just taste strange. Seating can be tight, especially for wider bodies like mine but the chairs are sturdy and comfortable. Order the lunch specials, specifically the kebabs. That meat is tender enough to cut with a spoon! And the flavours are incredible. If you order a lunch plate, choose the salad which comes with an oil based dressing so good you'll want to ask for it to be served in a glass with a straw. I'm. Not. Lying. One more thing: the food is separated in your to-go! The rice sits in a basket. The meat is enclosed in foil and the salad has its own compartment. Yeah, I'm one of those who hates food to touch. Don't judge me. There are other Med eateries close to me but this is where I return time and time again because I love the food, and I can't stop obsessing about the lemonade. I thought I had reviewed this place already, but I'm excited that I haven't. I can't talk this place up enough. My family stems from turkey, Lebanon and Greece and this place is so incredibly authentic, it's almost hard to believe it exists. Just tried their kibbeh for the first time and it was so so yummy I wish I would have had more than 2 pieces! I have never been able to find a place that makes dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) that tasted almost like my family recipe and I finally have. They offer them with meat or just rice. Either way they are delicious. Their tabouli salad is so good, and I love that they add quinoa into it for the extra protein! This place isn't just a restaurant though, they had the building sectioned off into two areas, a bakery/deli/restaurant, and also a convenient store/ small middle eastern market for all the ingredients you'd ever need to make food at home. I noticed on their menu, they have avgolemono soup!! (Lemon chicken soup) and I almost got some last time I was there but decided to save it for another time. I wish this place wasn't so far away from me, or they had another location in the east valley, but it is so amazing, I'll never care about driving to phoenix to experience the authenticity. It's pretty hard to park In the little lot they have so make sure to be careful when choosing a parking spot and leaving! It's super close to the road, kinda makes me nervous to back out because I always think I'm going to back into the road. Anyone who loves Greek food, Lebanese food or any middle eastern food at all, has to give this place a try. They didn't bow the American mob when making their menu, it is how it should be, and not to make the American consumer happy, but to make the middle Easter consumer so happy to have a place that is like home. read more
