Middle Eastern Bakery and Deli is a not to be missed gem. Part bakery, part deli, part grocery shop, this place is small, but mighty. The atmosphere is unpretentious and the service was fast. I ordered the Ouzi Platter. While not cheap, the portion size is enough for two meals, so plan for leftovers. The Filo (spelled Fillo on their menu board) was light and flaky. The texture was so nice and flaky I would have enjoyed it without the filling. But, filling it had and it was good. Both the marinade lamb and seasoned rice rounded out the dish nicely. The platter included tzatziki sauce, a bed of seasoned rice, a warm pita and Greek salad. White the type of platter was "Ouzi", the standout was the Greek salad. IMO, any salad can be easily ruined with a subpar dressing. This Greek salad and its dressing were outstanding and worthy of ordering on its own. The food is absolutely fantastic. I went because I heard they had amazing gluten free items and I was not let down. Walked in and found this place on accident tbh and I am glad we did! When you walk in you see the little market with different foreign products, good selection to try new stuff. Go to the back and you'll see a menu and pastries on display. We were greeted by a nice women. We got the food in like 10 minutes and it came out fresh! The fresh baklava is amazing!!! Some of the best I've had for a while! The chicken was juicy , the steak was tender and cooked right and the mix was also full of flavor. It came with salad and rice and both had great flavor! The ambiance was pretty relaxed and they had a couple people at tables but found a table easily. It is a market mix with some food so it's not an actual restaurant but the food is fresh and good and I would definitely go back. Apparently my husband has been coming here for years, but I didn't even know this place existed until last week when he proposed we visit for lunch with some family visiting from out of town. I love the combination of restaurant and grocery store. While we were waiting for our food to be prepared, I went browsing through the aisles and found a ton of fun goods that I haven't seen since our trip to Turkey a few years back. The shawarma wrap and tabouli were so good that we ended up buying frozen moussaka and pastichio as well as the best baklava I've ever had from the grocery section to eat a few days later! The people who work here are also incredibly sweet - my 9 month old was staring in awe at some balloons that we saw inside so my husband asked how much for a balloon - turns out it was one of the worker's birthdays! My husband came across this store when he was in the area and I realized I had it on my bookmark list already so we decided to try their grills. We ordered one mixed kabab and one grilled combo. The mixed kabab has two skewers and the grilled combo has three. The two plates are served with a choice of tabboule or Greek salad as well as rice and pita bread. My husband picked the Greek salad and I chose tabboule/ While my husband waited for the food, he looked around the store and found frozen fatayer, both spinach and cheese that seem to have been packaged in house as well as frozen box of Sarajevo burek so he grabbed them. The food was packaged pretty well. The first thing that we noticed is that the portion of salad in the plate was quite a bit and the actual food (rice and kababs) was a smaller portion. My tabboule, although not very common, had cucumbers in it. It was actually pretty good, just a tiny bit on the dry side. The rice and the kababs were very tasty. My husband enjoyed his meal as well but the skewers were very small, we needed more! We also ordered baba ghannouj as a side and it was delicious! A few days later, we tried the frozen fatayer, both the cheese and spinach and they were excellent after warming them up. We just tried the burek last week and it was fantastic, tasted just like the ones you get fresh from the Eastern European bakery. Prices are ok. If portions were slightly bigger, they would be closer to a rating of 4.5 than 4. We will be returning and I have recommended them to my friends already because the food is really good! read more

I've wanted to try this place for a while and it's a really cool little shop. They have a bunch of ingredients and a huge table full of fresh pita for sale in the front. I ordered a gyro and falafel and the gyro was just okay. The meat wasn't crispy and the texture was different. The falafel however was delicious! They served it with a tahini sauce and usually tahini sauces are hit or miss but this was probably the best tahini sauce I've had. The pita was really fresh too and the falafel balls were super small but very crispy. I would come back and try some more things. read more

Great spot to grab very tasty & relatively inexpensive Mediterranean delights. This is a restaurant/market with desserts that's been around for a long time. My favorite thing to order is their shish kabob plate. My fiancé loves the Lebanese chicken. Their lemonade has rose water in it and is also worth trying. The lemonade is a little on the sweet side, you can make it an Arnold Palmer (Lemonade with Iced tea) if you want to tone it down. The food here is really good, better than I expected. The place looks just like a little market. Don't let the looks throw you, the food is worth ordering! Obviously this probably wouldn't be a first date location or at all bougie but it's a foodie paradise. The other entrees & appetizers are also really good. Hummus, BabaGanouj, Falafel were all yummy! I recommend this place highly based on food quality for price. I'll definitely be back from time to time. I wasn't impressed. The food is incredibly expensive. The store is shabby and I think running on a swamp cooler which in Phoenix in June was pretty tough. It was pretty warm in there. My total bill came to $24.38 and I ordered the beef Shawarma plate and a piece of baklava. I think that is incredibly expensive for what I received which was greasy overcooked meat and a container and a small side salad. It also came with a small pita, and a very small side of hummus. I do not recommend the beef Shawarma. It was awful. It was greasy, overcooked and full of gristle. I also did not like the seasoning. I did really enjoy the piece of bread it came with and the baklava was ok. I didn't care for the hummus at all. It was very bland. The salad that came with my beef was the best thing but the salad dressing they gave me was all oil. I don't know if they forgot to shake it before they put it in the container, but it was just grease. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing. Given how incredibly expensive it was, and how much I really did not like the main part of my meal, I can't recommend it. read more

Given the positive reviews, we made a trip to this bakery/deli, and she was pleasantly surprised! She really enjoyed the shawarma plate (although it tasted a bit too cinammon-y), and thought the rice from my lebanese chicken plate was also quite tasty. I wish I could say that I shared the same enthusiasm. The food wasn't my favorite, but the arabic coffee paired with the baklava was very, very tasty! I just had the most amazing, soft, tasty pita breads, and they were gluten free! They were so soft and chewy, and I don't know what sorcery this is, but I just had one of the best gluten free and dairy free meals I have had in a looong time. I tried their hummus plate with meat, which features deliciously seasoned ground beef, tomatoes and cucumbers over hummus. My sister had a pita sandwhich and also loved it! This is a little hole-in-the-wall place that I hope continues to thrive for decades to come, and which I will be adding to my Phoenix visitation rounds. Definitely add Middle Eastern to your list. This cozy bakery was just across the street from where we were staying, so we walked over for dinner our first night in town. Location is a bit dated and dusty but well organized with a good selection of imported goods and house-made items. Order at register in back for the restaurant menu, which is surprisingly large. We shared the kabob combo plate (beef, chicken, lamb, with rice and salad), the labneh appetizer, and a piece of the spanakopita. The plate was a good portion size for the price ($14), everything was pretty tasty but the lamb was my favorite, chicken was dry but well seasoned. The labneh was generously portioned, seemed to have been made in house, served with pita. Spanakopita could have used more filling. After eating, we browsed the shop. I made a mental note to return for some of the zataar pita chips, the eggplant spread, and a few other goodies but unfortunately they are closed Sundays and I missed my opportunity. TIP: They sell authentic Bulgarian feta in the deli case, in brine, by the pound. This is difficult to find! read more
