Super bummed, we have no idea what their hours are. Showed up at 11:30am on a Wednesday with family visiting all the way from Morocco. My favorite was the Baba Ghanouj. For entrees, we shared 3 entrees: the Mixed Grill, Mandi, and Goat Tagine. We liked all 3 dishes. But my companions liked the Goat Tagine best. We went for there for dinner. The four of us all split a large Greek salad and fresh baked bread were delicious. We each ordered a Tagine with lamb that we split as it was ample amount for two. The flavor was excellent and lamb was cooked just right. Following that we had the hot Moroccan tea that had an excellent flavor. The service and information about each dish was great. This place is absolutely amazing. We came here yesterday to celebrate my birthday, and it just brought me all the way back to soft evenings in Marrakesh. Now, fair warning- I think this place is pretty much a one-person show, I've only ever seen one lady working here. That being said, you gotta respect the hustle- she'll be whirling around the place handling store customers, phone calls, balancing drinks and tagines, etc. Service might be a little slow, and if there are multiple tables I could imagine it being *quite* slow (though, honestly, and I hate to say this, I don't think I've ever seen anyone else eating here, which is a damned shame). But take that time to relax- browse around the store, enjoy some tea, get off your phone and chat with your friends. Their food is honestly some of the best that I've ever had. I mentioned it in my last review, but I want to reiterate- their bastilla is easily as good as anything I've ever had in Marrakesh or Fez. Yesterday we got some of just about everything, and it was all absolutely amazing. Even the presentation was memorable- the meals were served on beautiful wooden dishes, dazzling tagines and pretty little plates. Once again the meats all melted right in my mouth, and when I say that, I mean it literally. You scoop a piece of lamb up, you put it in your mouth, and you honestly don't even need to chew it- it just dissolves in a fatty, meaty alchemy. It looks like their menu has shrunk a little bit, but I'm just glad that they made it through COVID. I will personally commit to coming here more often to keep their kitchen busy. The Bastilla... what can I say about this unique dish? This restaurant is marketed as a Moroccan restaurant with an attached market. This seemingly unimposing restaurant boasts a hidden gem. That gem is the Bastilla! Looking at the dish and reading about, I initially thought "meh, seems interesting but I'm not expecting much." Boy was I wrong. This does require suspending what you would initially think as what flavor profiles to be. What do I mean? When one thinks of entree, you think of savory and sweetness belongs to dessert realm. This combines both to create a savory sweet dish that bursts of flavor. It tastes similar to a baklava with its sweet and almond style flavor, but the tenderness and savory profile of chicken. A sweet chicken dish? Who would've thought? Why am I asking rhetorical questions? I was impressed with this massive beast (it is HUGE) and I felt like the food baby was kicking once I was done. That being said I decided to try the mango smoothie. Also killed it in the smoothie game. It tasted like real fruit (it's sad to be impressed that a smoothie tastes like tea fruit since many places use a powder or some substitute)! It also had great presentation. My five star rating is really focused on the incredible food and presentation. My husband and I had the lamb kabobs and it was so tender and flavorful; we have never had any like it before and loved it! It came out on wood slabs with grilled vegetables, rice, salad and pita. The dishes are prepared with care and are uniformly delicious; what the space lacks in beauty or the service lacks in speed is more than made up for by the real sense of community that the lovely owner cultivates here. This is a Phoenix institution. I've visited multiple times and enjoyed a number of dishes. The bastilla is a sweet and savory highlight that you won't find anywhere else, the kafta and gyro are better than any I've tried in Phoenix, and dishes like the molokai set Alzohour apart as well. Food quality is 4-5 stars, service/consistency/transparency is what makes this a one star. My family and I had gone to Alzohour a few times. I have no idea if the owner has staff, but both times it was literally just her to man the entire restaurant/store and answer enquires about the attached tailor/clothing store. So you'll have to be patient. Also, if you are going for lunch, she basically has to cook from scratch, so expect it to take 20 minutes or so for you to get your food. The food itself is delicious. We've had the tagine, the mandi is delightful, the bastilla is more of a sweet protein dish so isn't for everyone. The kunafa is amazing and homemade (it's a dish that tastes a bit like baklava but with homemade cheese). But the problem is inconsistency and transparency. A restaurant needs to be consistent in order to qualify as a successful restaurant, and this place feels more like a friend cooking in her kitchen, for better and worse. The transparency is why I'm writing this in a rage. The owner does NOT give you the check before paying. In order to pay, you get up from your table and go to the cash register in the front of the restaraunt. There, she rings in your bill but doesn't give you any idea what it is. Normal restaraunts give you the bill to see BEFORE running your credit card. The last time we went (and using Yelp's current prices for this restaraunt), my family got: 1 kashkbademjan ($11), 1 baba ghanouj ($9), 4 morrocan teas (yelp doesn't have this price so working off an older menu pic and applying similar price increases, I'll say $6 each so a total of $24), the mandi ($20), the bastilla ($26), and the Kunafa ($9). The total should have been $99 before tax. let's be generous and apply a 10% tax. The total shoud have been around $109. Pricy but worth it. My family member handed her our card, and when we went to sign after the card had been run, we were charged $172. My family member didn't want to make a fuss at the restaraunt, so signed it and told me the actual amount nearly a week later. So the owner, for the price of less than the meal we paid, has permanently lost us from ever returning to her place of business. TLDR: Good food, but don't trust the staff with your credit card before seeing the actual itemized bill. This isn't a professional restaurant, it's a good cook essentially working out of her private kitchen. read more

The food was as good as back home. The harira was served with a type of pita bread that was freshly made. The goat taijin was delicious and tender but for me the star of the meal was the lamb couscous. It was incredible delicious tender and perfect seasonings it's a MUST. Service was extremely friendly. The other night, we watched a foodie show with an episode in Morocco. So, we decided to find a Moroccan restaurant in the area and this one popped up. We're very happy it did, since we just got back from an absolutely delicious meal. We started with 2 apps, hummus and falafels...the hummus was wonderfully creamy and flavorful...the falafels were probably the best I've ever had, they were perfectly crispy on the outside and buttery on the inside. The falafels were served with tzatziki and tahini, both were delicious! We were also served a basket of freshly made flat bread. For our mains, hubby went with the chicken tagine and I chose the lamb tagine. We couldn't decide which one we each wanted, so we got both and shared. The lamb was perfectly cooked, pulled right off the bone with a hint of sweetness from the prunes cooked in the broth. The chicken was also perfectly cooked and fell right off the bones with a more savory broth, but wonderful. We couldn't stop eating, everything was so good! I believe our waitress was also the chef and owner. The food took a little while, but was well worth the wait. Now that we've tasted Moroccan cooking, we'll definitely be coming back...can't wait!!! read more

Hole in the wall joint with great Moroccan/middle eastern food. I believe this to be a 1-person operation as my waitress, was also the cook. Come to find out she was the owner, Zohr. I really, really, really, wanted the chicken tagine. Unfortunately, she ran out so I settled for the mixed plate and a kebab tagine, which was a surprise she brought out. It was a lot. (See pics) Me being familiar with the Bastilla did not order it but my colleague did. I did get to taste it and it's no wonder it's probably the most popular dish in this place. The flavors are out of this work. A little savory and sweet. This is a dish you can eat alone, if you are hungry, or share. My dish was solid and enjoyable but I would probably try something else in the future. Due to the one-person operation, service does suffer. There is no need to hop The Marrakech Express since Alzohour Market is in Phoenix. This is a small Moroccan/ Middle Eastern Restaurant, Bakery, Grocery and Islamic Clothing Shop. This place is located between north and central Phoenix but on the north end. We were really BLOWN AWAY with the food we tried. We started off with falafels. The falafels are the best I've had in a while...The Tzatziki Sauce BLOWS AWAY EVERYONE ELSES by a landslide. The secret is because the owner Zhor makes her own yogurt. Today we tried the Frekeh Chicken and the Couscous Lamb. The meats were well developed with delicious flavors and were falling apart tender. Both dishes were very fragrant and made with exotic spices. The Couscous Dish is extra special and comes in mild or spicy and was made with many vegetables that included carrot, potato, red squash, garbanzo beans and Brussel sprouts. I was talked into a special dessert of the day so I tried a cheese stuffed baklava. WOW for sure it was the BEST baklava I've ever tried. so delicious and not too sweet. We washed it down with tea.....and even the TEA was the BEST TEA I ever tasted.... (food portions run extra large) It was just a wonderful incredible experience! Tried their beef burgers yesterday for the first time, and I have to say I was pretty impressed. It wasnt exceptional however, I have to say, but if I'm ever looking for Halal burgers, I would definitely give them a second chance. Their garlic sauce, however, needs to be worked on and was to yogurt-based, which was not like the traditional garlic sauce were used to. I love Alzohour Market so much because my father was Tunisian and I spent my early childhood in Tunis enjoying delicious food. I'm 61yo now and too crippled from MS to cook. All of my family that cooked Tunisian food for me and taught me to cook it are gone. I'm in assisted living and forced to eat very bland food I'd never eat.
