Oh my god this was so good. I ate the whole thing! I came during lunch so they had the food out, buffet-style/ self serve (that's why my plate looks messy LOL). I highly recommend coming to try it out. The owner was very kind and helpful in explaining all their food options. Definitely coming back!

I have only had Ethiopian food a few times. I wasn't a fan. I saw this place pop up elsewhere as having vegan options. I decided to check it out today. Small place, and when I say that I don't mean by square footage, I mean the lady making the food and the gentleman serving. I almost didn't want to write a review because I want to keep it as a secret spot of mine. All throughout my meal, I was planning my next trip back. That's all I can say... for me? It was so good that I cried tears of enjoyment as I chewed every bite with my eyes closed savoring every flavor. At first, I thought I would take a bite of each and each them least favorite to favorite. Only, every bite I took I wanted another and another. I will be making this a regular meal. How frequently I am still uncertain but for me, this hit spots inside of me I didn't even know I needed filled. There is a spacious dining area and a bar, the decor indeed does remind me of "home", not my home, but someone's and for me, that's how it felt. So good. I made noises of enjoyment throughout every bite. Again, for me, this is easily a new favorite place.

Food is amazing and service is great! Definitely recommend checking this place out if you are in Phoenix!

Tried calling twice to resolve before making a review and left a message. I ordered Tebes and a side salad for 27$ the meat was dry and every other bite was grizzle. Very disappointing after seeing 4.8 for reviews. It lacked flavor and was just as sour as the injera

What a delicious meal! My friend invited us to lunch and we finally made it to Ethiopian food after at least a year of talking about it. Spacious interior, smells were incredible and food was so comforting and delicious. Four people (2 adults, 2 kids) shared a vegan platter for 3 and loved it. My favorite were the spicier lentils. We also bought four sambusa and those were divine. Would absolute return for another delicious experience.

We stopped here for a bite to eat before heading to the airport. The staff greeted us with genuine smiles. This food is so flavorful. The dishes are fresh and the amount of food is more than enough for 2 people. The dining room is big and they have a big screen tv that was broadcasting sports. The food service was attentive and friendly. The server suggested a unique sparkling water from Ethiopia which we liked so much. I have been craving Ethiopian cuisine for months and this restaurant experience was satiating.

We've wanted to try Ethiopian food for quite some time, and this place had some really good write ups, so let's give it a shot. The restaurant is not much to speak of as you pull up, but inside, it's clean, neat, well organized, and very pleasant. We were seated promptly. Other diners were a mix of US and Africans. We ordered the Ethiopian beer and it was pretty good. Since we had no idea what to order, we went with the meat combo for 3. I understand the protocols of eating without utensils or plates and that was not a problem. Overall, we found the food very flavorful and highly seasoned and quite filling. Alas, in truth, it's not our taste. But if you are an Ethiopian food fan, give it a try.

The food!! GO! Now!! I literally texted my friends, a picture of my dinner, and said buy your plane ticket. Don't be scared off by the outside. It's got a parking lot and once you get through the front door, you are transformed into a welcoming space. They offer beer wine, and it looks like hard liquor. I don't drink, but I had a lovely pot of hot cinnamon tea. The food was spectacular. Everything I had was delicious. Just go you won't be disappointed.

Fim Tibs (Chopped Lamb) served over a hot coal container. The meal is as delicious as it looks.

I love the ambiance here. There's also a wide variety of foods that are available to eat - as well as drinks. The customer service is also exceptional here, with the staff always going above and beyond to make me feel at home!

    1. Looks like a basic place from the outside. Once you enter inside, it's a cool ambiance. 2. The place is family run, an Ethiopian woman cooks, not some workers off the street. 3. The food is spectacular, fresh, flavorful, digests super well. 4. They use traditional Teff flour which is ideal for Gluten allergies. 5. They offer fully Vegan meals (as this is also a religious need on Wednesday/Fridays for some Ethiopians). I've never had the meat here, the vegan dishes are supremely delicious and I always return home with delicious leftovers. 6. The Ethiopian beer is great, the owner and community is wonderful, and I always look forward to visiting this establishment.

My Uncle and I arrived here on a rainy afternoon as soon as you walk in the place is decorated with culture. It feels like you're walking into someone's home, you can smell the food from the kitchen and it's herbaceous! The server was very friendly and kind, when our food arrived she let us know we eat with our hands. The brown wrap is a soft foam like tortilla texture and the meat and greens are super flavorful and melt in your mouth. It's very mushy so If you're okay with that texture give this place a try! It's very tasty! Just remember if you don't like it please be kind, food from other cultures are meant to be different so if it's not for you please still be respectful.

Amazing food and great service! Give it a try if you are in the area, you won't regret it.

I came when they first opened up for the day. As I entered there was a smoke screen of incense smoke all throughout. One of the owners quickly noticed and started opening up door for fresh air. I did not mind the incense as I do burn them myself but it was just a little much. The owners are super nice and accommodating. The food is good. I think I may have selected the wrong item for me personally. I ordered beef (don't remember the official name). Not my first but a first at this spot. I will definitely be back. It was a fun experience.

This recent visit was my third time having Ethiopian food, and I went in with an open mind. I remembered the last time I had Ethiopian food, I didn't really enjoy it. You have the option of choosing from their platters, or you can build your own. I created my own platter - I got the lamb dish (#5), the chicken dish (#3), and lentils (#9). These 3 dishes came on injera, which is a sour, fermented flatbread. It is basically a plate for the food, but you also use it to scoop up the meat/lentils to eat. My order also came with several more pieces of injera. The injera "plate" got soggy from the meat and lentils, so it was harder to use it to grab the fillings because it just kept falling apart. The chicken wasn't that great, so I wouldn't order that again, but the lamb dish and the lentils were sooo good. I had enough leftover for a second meal. I'm glad I gave Ethiopian food another chance! Next time, I would probably get the beef, lamb, and lentils.

We ended up getting platters off the menu instead, mostly ordering vegetarian. (But if you're hungry or want more food, the buffet is a good option.) The green beans and the collards are a solid combination because of the difference in texture and spice. Cabbage, fish and beef were also good. Everything came either on a bed of injeera (soft) or rice, or a combination. On weekdays they have lunch specials which are the best deals and very good and inevitably you'll have leftovers to enjoy later. Service has been better and more attentive in the past but it was busier than usual too. The actual decor and location is a bit dated but you probably wouldn't come here for the atmosphere. They also sell their coffee and other small things to go. I don't have ethiopian that often so this was a treat. Shared parking lot with other businesses.

The TV was on loud with a soccer game on. A man came out and sat us. we the meat sambusas. They were very good. The gentleman that served us was very nice. They sell water, you cannot get a glass.. only bottles. The prices of the food seemed reasonable. I got the Awaze Tibs(seasoned beef dish). this was very good. It came with the authentic Injera. (gluten free fermented bread) it has a spongy texture, a very sour dough like flavor. My daughter got the Alicia Wot (seasoned lamb dish). It was also very good. My problem lies with the service mostly. All the men that worked there, sat in the room with the TV, area watching the soccer game including our server. We sat there forever to get the door and then I had to go wake him for our bill. He didn't offer an itemized bill, just gave me the amount. I had to ask for an itemized bill. I'm not a fan of a restaurant that doesn't want to do their job. I will return and try more of the food, but i'm gonna have to figure out how to deal with the service.

However this is not the restaurant's fault that falls absolutely on DoorDash and their poor service. Having said that this is a family run restaurant. When you walk in may not be aesthetically pleasing to the eye on the outside but what you're about to experience inside is absolutely so much more. I ordered the mushroom wat which was very reasonably priced at nine dollars and an iced tea. The owner of the restaurant is very friendly very warm when I also taking my order promptly. The dining area itself is smaller, but very quaint and its ability to maintain its coziness. The decor of the restaurant is pretty modest in a culturally based atmosphere which improves the atmosphere of this wonderful experience. My food was very promptly made and arrived on the table quickly and experience was about to get all that much better. The mushroom wat was absolutely amazing and absolutely what I have been craving for the 20 years. I've been waiting for in my return cravings for Ethiopian food. The bread they used for dipping with absolutely perfect as it is always one of my favorites to indulge when eating this food. In the end this place left me sitting at the table absolutely stuffed, which is fantastic especially with the price what I paid for it all. I will be returning to restaurant for sure as I now found the exact right place, for this kind of food.

To start I love that you're able to shop their small boutique store while you wait for your table to be ready. The store had some great artisan skincare crafted locally and many clothing, jewelry and woven items that benefit an African tribe. Now on to the food & drinks. The drink menu features some familiar cocktails with an African flare. I opted for their lemonade and added a shot of vodka, it was so delicious and refreshing. The food truly tastes as good as it looks! We shared the hummus, it wasn't too overpowering in onion flavor and the bread was perfectly dense and fluffy. For my main entree I was the peri peri chicken. Everything on the plate was a 5/5 for me, all super flavorful & cooked to perfection. To top it all off they were so gracious to provide us with birthday and anniversary gifts and even a special shot for each of us of their mama Juana. This was some of the best hospitality I've experienced which was a cherry on top to the exceptional food and drinks. I will certainly be back soon!

I visited alone from out of town on successive Monday and Tuesday evenings, with few other customers there either night. I ordered combinations both times, trying most of the vegan options and two of the meat options between the two meals. There wasn't one dish that I wouldn't eagerly order again. The two-meat / two-vegan and four-vegan platters were each probably enough for two ordinary appetites. I finished one each night, but was very full afterwards. Service was provided by a friendly and charming server who graciously chatted with me about some shared interests. I see a few reviewers complain about service on busy evenings, and it was clear from the size of the place that one server would have little hope of keeping up by themselves if it was busy. And this is why: We arrived on a Tuesday around 5.30 pm. The posted hour for opening was 4.00 pm. The doors were locked. I called the restaurant. The voicemail eventually answered with the business hours and that they were busy serving other customers. We looked on Yelp for other Ethiopian places that had Kitfo and/or Gored Gored. I saw the restaurants other (first) location and called that number. It was answered and I asked about the restaurant not being open. I was assured that someone was on the way. We decided to walk around the deserted shopping center but then found an Albertsons there. We needed a few things, so we went grocery shopping. Upon returning to the restaurant, we found it open. No one was there, so we stood there for a short time. Eventually a smiling man greeted us and asked if we were the ones who had called. I nodded and he profusely apologized for the delay. After a while of sitting at a table, he returned to take our order. We wanted Kitfo (raw), Chicken tibs, and the 4 veggie combo with tikel gomen, gomen, misir wat, and yesuf fitfit. I had never had the last and was excited to try it. Since there were no Ethiopian beers like Harar or Bedel, we settled for a Modelo especial draft, our favorite Mexican beer. The waiter (who was the owner of the two restaurants, as it turned out later), asked what we would like if there was no Kitfo, the main thing we were there for. We decided to get beef tibs, in that case. Eventually the food arrived with no Kitfo, but beef tibs, Misir wat, tikil gomen, gomen and salad. He was unable to do the yesuf fitfit. He offered a substitute and we got the keyser. The food was good. Not the best Ethiopian food I've had, but authentic tasting. The salad lacked acid. It was salty, but I don't mind that part. The veggies were done correctly. The beef tibs were heavy on the rosemary but pleasant in taste. There were only onions, no hot peppers like in other versions. As always, we ordered too much. The owner, Andu, gave us a complimentary piece of cake to take with us and recommended we visit his first restaurant in Phoenix where we may have gotten kitfo. In my 4 star rating, I only considered the food and the lovely service we received. I did not consider that the opening times were ignored, and we could not get 2 of the dishes we wanted that were on the menu. The next time we are in town, we will try the Phoenix location.
