Oh my god this was so good. I ate the whole thing! I came during lunch so they had the food out, buffet-style/ self serve (that's why my plate looks messy LOL). Tried calling twice to resolve before making a review and left a message. I ordered Tebes and a side salad for 27$ the meat was dry and every other bite was grizzle. Very disappointing after seeing 4.8 for reviews. It lacked flavor and was just as sour as the injera read more

I have only had Ethiopian food a few times. I wasn't a fan. I saw this place pop up elsewhere as having vegan options. I decided to check it out today. Small place, and when I say that I don't mean by square footage, I mean the lady making the food and the gentleman serving. I almost didn't want to write a review because I want to keep it as a secret spot of mine. All throughout my meal, I was planning my next trip back. That's all I can say... for me? It was so good that I cried tears of enjoyment as I chewed every bite with my eyes closed savoring every flavor. At first, I thought I would take a bite of each and each them least favorite to favorite. Only, every bite I took I wanted another and another. I will be making this a regular meal. How frequently I am still uncertain but for me, this hit spots inside of me I didn't even know I needed filled. There is a spacious dining area and a bar, the decor indeed does remind me of "home", not my home, but someone's and for me, that's how it felt. So good. What a delicious meal! My friend invited us to lunch and we finally made it to Ethiopian food after at least a year of talking about it. Spacious interior, smells were incredible and food was so comforting and delicious. Four people (2 adults, 2 kids) shared a vegan platter for 3 and loved it. My favorite were the spicier lentils. We stopped here for a bite to eat before heading to the airport. The staff greeted us with genuine smiles. This food is so flavorful. The dishes are fresh and the amount of food is more than enough for 2 people. The dining room is big and they have a big screen tv that was broadcasting sports. The food service was attentive and friendly. The server suggested a unique sparkling water from Ethiopia which we liked so much. We've wanted to try Ethiopian food for quite some time, and this place had some really good write ups, so let's give it a shot. The restaurant is not much to speak of as you pull up, but inside, it's clean, neat, well organized, and very pleasant. We were seated promptly. Other diners were a mix of US and Africans. We ordered the Ethiopian beer and it was pretty good. Since we had no idea what to order, we went with the meat combo for 3. I understand the protocols of eating without utensils or plates and that was not a problem. Overall, we found the food very flavorful and highly seasoned and quite filling. The food!! GO! Now!! I literally texted my friends, a picture of my dinner, and said buy your plane ticket. Don't be scared off by the outside. It's got a parking lot and once you get through the front door, you are transformed into a welcoming space. They offer beer wine, and it looks like hard liquor. 1. Looks like a basic place from the outside. Once you enter inside, it's a cool ambiance. 2. The place is family run, an Ethiopian woman cooks, not some workers off the street. 3. The food is spectacular, fresh, flavorful, digests super well. 4. They use traditional Teff flour which is ideal for Gluten allergies. 5. They offer fully Vegan meals (as this is also a religious need on Wednesday/Fridays for some Ethiopians). I've never had the meat here, the vegan dishes are supremely delicious and I always return home with delicious leftovers. 6. The Ethiopian beer is great, the owner and community is wonderful, and I always look forward to visiting this establishment. read more

I ordered the Tibs and a tiny side of miser (1/4 cp.) The miser was tiny but good. The tibs were awful. I've never seen this before but the beef tibs came as a soup, which was weird. The meat was white and super tough, and the soup was not good. I ate two bites and left it. If I remember right, it was about $40 for these dishes and a beer. I paid, left and got dinner elsewhere. The place felt dirty too. This is one of the few places Yelp has led me in the wrong direction. I should have known because the parking lot was empty at 5:30. read more

My Uncle and I arrived here on a rainy afternoon as soon as you walk in the place is decorated with culture. It feels like you're walking into someone's home, you can smell the food from the kitchen and it's herbaceous! The server was very friendly and kind, when our food arrived she let us know we eat with our hands. The brown wrap is a soft foam like tortilla texture and the meat and greens are super flavorful and melt in your mouth. It's very mushy so If you're okay with that texture give this place a try! It's very tasty! Just remember if you don't like it please be kind, food from other cultures are meant to be different so if it's not for you please still be respectful. read more

Recently went for one of their buffet nights. Food was delicious as always. Buffet was I think $30ish per person (maybe a little less) and so worth it. I was full the whole day. The very kind woman who is always working remembered us and greeted us with a smile. We were offered free coffee after the meal. I just adore this place! read more

I came when they first opened up for the day. As I entered there was a smoke screen of incense smoke all throughout. One of the owners quickly noticed and started opening up door for fresh air. I did not mind the incense as I do burn them myself but it was just a little much. The owners are super nice and accommodating. The food is good. I think I may have selected the wrong item for me personally. I ordered beef (don't remember the official name). Not my first but a first at this spot. I will definitely be back. Hands down, I've been to all of them in Arizona and this place takes the lead. What an absolute gem!! The food is beyond AMAZING! I kid you not. If you're ready for a food adventure-let the good people of Kare transport you. The flavors explode in your mouth. While it is not a vegan restaurant, It was one of the best vegan meals I have had in Phoenix. The textures are pillowy and inviting, calling you to eat more even though you may be full. The outside of the restaurant may be off putting but the inside is bright and inviting. When we got here they were having an Ethiopian Coffee ceremony. I only wish we drank coffee. Incredibly welcoming, friendly, and clean establishment. The 3-person vegan combo and lentil veggie sambusa were excellently flavored. The sambusa wrapper was perfectly crispy and flaky on the outside, while warm and fluffy on the inside. There was just enough hot spice to bring you to life. I have eaten at Ethiopian restaurants from Boston to LA, and a lot of places in between. This is the best of them all. The food is perfection, the owners and staff are wonderful. The room is not fancy, but the atmosphere is laid back and friendly as can be. There are spices and spice mixtures for sale here too. I drive 100 miles each way from Tucson to eat here and take more food home. I have never done anything like that before. It's just that good. read more

I ordered to go and the bag must have weighed 10lbs! The lady on the phone was very nice and asked how long it would take me to get there so that she can prepare the special kitfo fresh. The beg tibbs was very tender and delicious. The portions for veggie combo, kitfo and tibbs were generous and tasty. I wish they were a little more spiced but you have to consider location and their customer type, so a little authenticity is lost so as not to scare off people who are not used to seasoned foods. Went here for my friends birthday because she loves Ethiopian food and neither myself nor our other friends had ever tried it before. I could not say enough amazing things about this place. Our server was the sweetest woman who told us stories about the food while we ordered. We got both types of sambusas and they were honestly my favorite thing, served with this spicy chimichurri sauce 10/10. We also ordered the meat and vegan plate for the three of us. When it arrived it was so beautiful and smelled incredible. It's served traditionally with injera and everything was so flavorful. Our server was so nice to not mix our meat and vegan sides as well since the birthday girl doesn't eat meat. Kare Ethiopian restaurant was a delightfully surprised us with a beautiful indoor area decorated with native pieces and and even an area dedicated to their coffee ceremony that usually happens on weekends (we need to go back for that!). The entrance is a bit easy to miss, but please don't miss on this restaurant! We ordered the veg sampler and nonveg sampler plates and both were delicious. The nonveg had some beef options that we usually don't find in other Ethiopian restaurants. The veg platter was just as good, with an only minor complaint that the rice felt out of place... The injera was a little more on the tangier side, but each place has its own fermenting times. It was really good nonetheless. I feel like this place is an absolute hidden gem! The food here is amazing. We had the vegan platter and some other dishes and finished off with a coffee ceremony. We were visiting from out of town and enjoy Ethiopian food. This gem is above and beyond worth the visit. The service is personal and doting. The food is amazing, and the ambiance and decore is spot-on. We will be back when we come through Phoenix again. Try the Ethiopian beer and the vegan menu options. Got takeout from here several weeks ago and it was AMAZING!! If you love food that is healthy and seasoned then this is for you. We had never tried Ethiopian cuisine before and we for sure will be back again. I got the misir wok and my man got some sort of beef dish which he said was amazing. It was a bit more expensive that I'd like to have paid but still very worth it. Easily was 2-3 meals per portion read more

This recent visit was my third time having Ethiopian food, and I went in with an open mind. I remembered the last time I had Ethiopian food, I didn't really enjoy it. You have the option of choosing from their platters, or you can build your own. I created my own platter - I got the lamb dish (#5), the chicken dish (#3), and lentils (#9). These 3 dishes came on injera, which is a sour, fermented flatbread. It is basically a plate for the food, but you also use it to scoop up the meat/lentils to eat. My order also came with several more pieces of injera. The injera "plate" got soggy from the meat and lentils, so it was harder to use it to grab the fillings because it just kept falling apart. The chicken wasn't that great, so I wouldn't order that again, but the lamb dish and the lentils were sooo good. I had enough leftover for a second meal. I'm glad I gave Ethiopian food another chance! Next time, I would probably get the beef, lamb, and lentils.

We ended up getting platters off the menu instead, mostly ordering vegetarian. (But if you're hungry or want more food, the buffet is a good option.) The green beans and the collards are a solid combination because of the difference in texture and spice. Cabbage, fish and beef were also good. Everything came either on a bed of injeera (soft) or rice, or a combination. On weekdays they have lunch specials which are the best deals and very good and inevitably you'll have leftovers to enjoy later. Service has been better and more attentive in the past but it was busier than usual too. The actual decor and location is a bit dated but you probably wouldn't come here for the atmosphere. I ordered right as they opened and my order came fairly quickly (~40 mins), so I was really happy with that as well. The mesir wat was seasoned spectacularly! Just enough heat that pairs with the savory flavor. The gomen also was deliciously garlicky, all coming together so harmoniously with the sourness of the injera. I was worried that ordering it for delivery would affect the experience, but everything came nice and warm and it was so great to have this meal at home. I definitely will need to come in next time, with friends for sure, I could not finish this combo on my own.

The mushroom wat was absolutely amazing and absolutely what I have been craving for the 20 years. I've been waiting for in my return cravings for Ethiopian food. The bread they used for dipping with absolutely perfect as it is always one of my favorites to indulge when eating this food.
