I waited for over an hour to receive my food. Let me be clear: OVER AN HOUR and how am I supposed to leave after paying $25 for a (small) sandwich?? I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and an iced latte and was lucky enough to snag a table for the time being. I was not informed of any sort of wait time and generally expect the service at a cafe to be a little quicker than, let's say, a sit-down restaurant. After the last person in my group finished ordering, we learned that the waiter informed him that sandwiches will have a 40 minute wait time. After all the rest of us ordered and paid, unknowing of this ridiculously long wait. When the food finally came out, it was a much smaller portion than I expected for the price. I'm not sure what took so long, if the oven/toaster was broken or something, but I'm not sure why that would've stalled the preparation of my COLD chicken salad sandwich like the bread wasn't even toasted from what I could tell. +2 stars because the person making the drinks was ON FIRE, tossing them out left and right! She was awesome and the latte was the highlight of my experience and the only thing that kept me sane while waiting. The staff behind the counter, while friendly, seemed distracted by each other and were honestly just lollygagging around when it looked like they could've been assembling sandwich ingredients. It was like being in purgatory honestly. Don't mean to be dramatic but it was like just a pretty disappointing experience with everything this place could potentially offer. Horrible service and cost $20 for a sandwich, stale chips, and a water bottle It took well over thirty minutes for my sandwich to come out. I was in a party of three (each paying individually) and I was the last to order. Yet, I was the only one given a warning about the over 30 minute wait time, thus trapping us there unless we wanted to make a scene and request three separate refunds. The person making the coffee drinks was on a completely different caliber, though, and made probably 25+ drinks in the time it took the kitchen staff to serve one sandwich. Shoutout to them Your sandwhiches are served the aforementioned 30 minutes after you receive your drink and on a completely different schedule than the food of anyone you came in with. Completely inconducive to the desired function of a cafe while falling victim to all the failings of the copy paste coffee shops in every town. The atmosphere was nice and cozy. The person making our drinks was great...the young folks running the register...not so much. The women seemed distracted and when we walked in were sitting on the floor and while they hopped up to help us, walked away unaware we'd be paying with cash and not card. Nice little coffee shop open relatively early in an area with not much else open on a Sunday morning! The egg sandwich was great, simple but fresh and the ciabatta was soft and fluffy. Coffee was good, homemade granola on the yogurt. Very nice and spacious patio. Loved it! read more

I come through Middleburg occasionally when I visit family in Aldie. It's a must that I come for coffee and a scone or coffee and a breakfast sandwich. I don't know why I've never reviewed them before! I always receive great service - friendly, efficient, and the coffee is always perfect, and the food is always delicious. Had an Everything Bagel with ham, egg, and cheese on day 1 of this visit and a scone on day 3. Macchiato one day and a latte the next. I had such a disappointing experience at Common Grounds in Middleburg. I placed an order for three sandwiches and waited 30 minutes, only to receive the wrong order. When I went back to fix it, they handed me the wrong order again. By the time they said they were "working on it," I tried to start eating my own sandwich--only to find the chicken salad was not fresh, the bread was stale, and the greens advertised on the menu were completely missing. I mentioned this, but instead of showing any concern, the woman behind the counter became defensive and actually raised her voice, saying they were backed up. At that point, I had been waiting half an hour with a small, fussy child, received the wrong order twice, and was now holding a sandwich I couldn't even eat. When I said I'd rather forgo the order and find food elsewhere, she snapped, "Do you want a refund?" with zero empathy or apology. I left feeling completely dismissed and unwelcome. Between the long wait, repeated mistakes, poor food quality, and incredibly rude service, I have no confidence in ever ordering here again. Truly a letdown. read more

Cute coffee shop in a quant town an hours outside of DC. It was quite busy due to the Virginia marathon happening in town, the reason I was here, I was a spectator not the runner. It was pretty much the only place open early on a Sunday morning. Debated between a breakfast sandwich or pastry and I chose a lemon ricotta muffin. It was moist and not too sweet. What a great find! The space itself is so cozy and intimate but not cramped. On a nice day the outside seating would be perfect. Three of us had three different iced lattes and they were amazing. Light ice so there was plenty of coffee. I got the salted caramel and the other two were maple spice and snickerdoodle. None of them were too sweet and you could still taste the coffee. I wish we lived closer because I would be a regular customer for sure! read more

We wanted to get some coffee in the morning and this looked like the best spot for it in the small town of Middleburg. This place is located in downtown and parking is on the street. Upon entering you notice that it's a nice spot for the locals to come and hang out in the morning. It would be a nice spot to study or read a book with chatter in the background. We ordered a latte, avocado toast, and two build your own breakfast sandwiches. I got egg, cheddar cheese, sausage, and arugula. They serve their lunch sandwiches all day as well if you don't want breakfast food. The wife said the coffee was really good and if she was in town, she'd come back. The avocado toast was a bit too sour and salty. The breakfast sandwich was really good. The break was nice and toasted and had great texture. We were in and out fairly quickly. Good local place to go to grab a coffee and breakfast item. They have a few good leather chairs to sit at if you don't want to sit at a table and the patio area is dog friendly. Wifi is good if you need to get some work done as well. Definitely worth going to. read more

Common Grounds is a busy coffee shop, in the small town of Middleburg, VA. They had some really fun holiday decor outside. They had indoor and outdoor seating available, the inside seemed very dark, so we sat outside, it was a really nice 60 degree day in the beginning of January. We got their seasonal lattes, one was the Cabin Log and the other was Toffee. These were both so delicious, frothy and full of flavor. Toffee was a tad bit too sweet, but still tasty. We also got a serving of their avocado toast. This came on two thin slices of toasted whole wheat bread, with a thin and even spreading of avocado, it was seasoned with salt, sesame seeds, and lemon zest. The lemon zest on the avocado toast was really tasty and prominent. I didn't like how dark it was inside, and nothing had any prices listed. The lattes were delicious and the avocado toast was nice and zesty. I'd stop by here again if in the area. read more

Went to this coffee shop for breakfast sandwiches...my girlfriend was working and I offered to run out and get her something to eat...I ordered 3 sandwiches..two bacon egg and cheese and one ham egg and cheese...a big, unpleasant kind of rude guy took my order and rang it up...$23.00.... When the sandwiches were done I picked up the bag and left..I was looking forward to a nice sandwich. Got back to the house and opened the sandwich and took a bite... Didn't taste any bacon do I opened it up and looked inside.. honestly, the piece of bacon was smaller then a half dollar..I looked at the other one and there was 1 skinny piece of bacon... My girlfriend just wanted to eat here- she was hungry, obviously -not I said no, I'm talking then back. ..I returned and speed the guy what I was served for $23.00.... He said" I get it.. That's the portion the owner tells us to use..in fact, the owner made those sandwiches for you"... Needless to say, I told him if I wanted an egg on a piece of read I would have gone to McDonald's... I want to be honest as well. I come to this place a lot when in and around Middleburg and the coffee is decent. I love the location and the vibe, so I stop frequently. I am a little concerned about the staff and I have noticed this a couple of times recently. They do seem nice to customers when they are ordering, but if you stay a while you do hear them complaining about customers and overly using profanity as they chatter behind the counter. It just dumbs the place down and wrecks the atmosphere. It would be different if this was a bar, but it's Middleburg's main coffee place. The owners need to watch this because it is such a nice place and location and they should know. read more

It always takes way too long for a sandwich, but this time it took 45 minutes for 3 sandwiches PLUS the extra bonus of Kayla, the "One in charge here", telling me "You'll get them when you get them" and being confrontational when I asked about our order. They're rude and slow...a great combo for a cafe in Middleburg. Kayla needs to be fired. This quaint cafe was the only store open aroun 8 when I was headed out to a hiking destination with the family. It was very friendly inside and had locals that knew most of the patrons that walked in and their orders. The art on the wall is for sale and bares the price on the title sign. We ordered two sandwiches and a drink to go. The food came out in the order it was recieved and it tastes fresh! I was really happy they were able to add spinach and tomatoes (fresh- they cut it to order for us) to my breakfast sandwich. It was a wonderful meal for our hike in sky meadows! I ordered a raspberry latte and for the first couple of sips, I didn't taste any raspberry, but it was sweet (but not too sweet). In actuality, the scent of raspberry is very subtle and is more noticeable in the after taste the place was clean. The interior is so cute as is with most places in Middleburg; they have really cute paintings and it has an old town kind of feel. Also the service workers were nice and I got my drink quickly! We had our 7 pounds little chihuahua with us and they made a most fabulous pup cup for him. Highly recommend this place for quick lunch or breakfast. We will definitely visit again.
