What can I say about Norma and the staff here at Middleburg Tack Exchange? My husband and I shop from here even when we're not in town! They're so good about finding EXACTLY what you're looking for. Fortunately, I WAS in town this week and was able to shop in person. On day one, I left with a gorgeous tweed for my husband and a beautiful tie one of sales ladies suggested. (They're perfect together.) I also picked up three girths and two hunt shirts. The second day, I left with a lightweight jacket for myself and a pair of Vogel boots for an unbelievable price. These guys do an excellent job of being fair to their consignors while still bringing shoppers high quality goods at affordable prices. They have an excellent selection of saddles as well and they DO allow trials! If you fox hunt or show, this shop needs to be your first stop before going anywhere else. They've always got something you need and, if they don't, they can help you find it! read more

Spoke to the owner Geraldine on the phone about getting the whole kit and kaboodle for my daughter for her first show. I live in DC so I emailed the list ahead of time and she had pulled items for us to try when we arrived. She was super helpful and even let us stay well after closing time to be sure we left with everything we needed (and more!). The prices are great and we were so grateful for her assistance! We ended up paying 1/4 of what our kit would have cost new! read more

Fantastic quality used tack, clothing and equipment, fairly priced, smack in the middle of amazing Virginia horse country. Shop is not huge but is stuffed to the gills on both levels, so give yourself plenty of time to dig through and find your treasure! The gal in charge kept my husband entertained teaching him about the hunting equipment in the front case - we don't have much hunting here - which left me free to explore! Very friendly, knowledgable folks. If only I didn't have to fly across the country, I'd be in there all the time! read more

My goodness! What attitude and rudeness - a terrible experience. The Mister and I stopped in here on a Saturday afternoon with his cowboy boots, looking to find a place to get them resoled. They don't resole boots, and that's fine. But their attitude in telling us was just over the top and unnecessary. They made us feel like we'd asked them something extremely distasteful and possibly illegal. When we asked them if they knew anyone in town who did, they proceeded to give us a half arsed answer about someone in a mall in Purcellville or some such. What a lovely tall tale. There is a locally owned small business less than two blocks away that resoles boots quite well. What on earth would it have cost them to share that information? These people don't deserve your business. read more

Very helpful staff! A very nice young woman made sure I got properly fitted for a saddle, possibly for the first time in my life! She kept pulling out saddles for me to try until we found the winner. I'm taking one home on trial but can bring it back and try another one if it doesn't work. Beautiful selection of high-quality used saddles. Stopped in here with my mom today, as she was looking for something. First thing I noticed was a sign on the front door: NO! RESTROOMS AVAILABLE! NO in red & underlined. That seemed unnecessarily harsh. Then went in & walked around. None of the staff looked up at us or acknowledged us. As we were leaving, one staff member behind the desk did make eye contact, though she seemed almost afraid or repulsed. She said a haltingly reluctant hi, no smile, & quickly looked away. Fabulous service. Stopped by (not our first visit) with a daughter in search of show clothes. We arrived 25 minutes before closing (traffic). We left about 50 minutes later with excellent selections at a relatively affordable cost. The staff was kind, accommodating, and instructive. We will happily keep returning for more. I will never go back here again. When I entered the store the ladies looked right at me didn't smile or say hello and went right back to work. I said hello anyway, and when they looked back up and made eye contact they reluctantly said hello. I went ahead and started browsing and walking around and they never ever came over to ask me if I needed help. I decided then I would not buy anything from their store even though I saw things I wanted to purchase. Upon exiting the store, they didn't look at me or even acknowledge me leaving and the cashier counter is right by the front the door. This is one of the most unfriendly interactions I have ever had with a business. I'm telling everyone to stay away from them! I promptly drove to Dover Saddlery and they were very friendly and willing to help me and I was able to buy everything I need. read more

The BEST place to find tack and riding gear for a good price. I have been coming here since I started riding when I was a kid, and have bought everything from brushes to blankets to a dressage saddle here. When I was getting my first pair of tall boots as a junior, one of the staff was very kind to spend a good deal of time with me as I tried on several different pairs. They also allow you to buy saddles or other tack on a trial basis. They are very busy on Saturdays, so if you will be needing personal attention you may want to come on a weekday (but not Monday, as they are closed). read more

Great little shop with great prices on consigned items. They have a large selection of adults and children's apparel.

There is quite a bit of rudeness, snobbery and looking-down-on going on as soon as you walk in the door (as to be expected of Middlburg). The employees are not well trained in products, but have "some knowledge". Considering it's a consignment store, with only used tack, the prices are insanely high. Also, if you try to consign anything that is not absolutely PERFECT, then they won't accept it. read more

I purchased a pair of paddock boots from here about 1 year ago and they still look great! The items in the store are reasonably priced and in good condition. There isn't a huge selection of things like fly spray and shampoos but it is to be expected as it is a tack exchange. It was very easy for me to find paddock boots in my size and in good condition. I didn't look for tall boots specifically and I cannot say anything about it, but when I decide to purchase tall boots I will look here before going anywhere else! I called the store to ask if they would have paddock boots and the woman on the phone was very nice and helpful. This is definitely a place where I will come to look for tack in the future. read more

I lived in Prince William 12yrs And loved this store and I never bought a thing! Two years after my horse died I swore I'd never own another and took every last thing horsey related I had after selling a lot myself at 2 local tack swaps. After 6 months I had them drop the price on my Stubben 150$ and the day I was ready to call them to lower it again I got a check in the mail! yea! I had small things (pill cutters etc) they didn't want and told me they didn't sell. I told them to price them a dollar or they would be in there dumpster out back as I left the parking lot. All those "dollar" items were the first to sell! Since moving back home to Norfolk I have been mailing them boxes of 10-15 Breyer model horses every few months. just called and there shelves are empty and I got my last consignment check. I have a box all ready to mail them tomorrow! always been very nice when I was in the store with friends shopping. if they were rude to anyone they must have been having a really bad name. there not all like that.. read more

The working staff are really very knowledgable but the owner (should retire) would do much better to manage from elsewhere. She is rude without reason, condescending to patrons and just plain nasty. I had the unfortunate experience of watching her be unnecessarily rude to several people while waiting with a friend who was purchasing a saddle recently. She certainly gave the "I am better and am having to lower myself to talk to these idiots" attitude. I would go anywhere else rather than deal with this person. read more

My riding instructor recommended coming here for riding boots. My husband and I drove out on a sunny Saturday- they were busy but so attentive! We enjoyed perusing all their goods, my husband got interested in dog coats for our boxer and the "resident dog"a sweet lab, modeled several! We were never rushed or pushed. I actually enjoy The Tack Exchange, but it seems like every time I go in there, the staff is so rude. I also feel like I am being watched while I shop. I have brought in several things to consign and most of them have sold. However, I took a beautiful dark gray show jacket there the other day and they put a very low price on it because it was "dated", "not many people buy dark gray coats anymore", Really???? How come they are still in the tack stores for sale and in catalogs? I have also witnessed other people bring things in to consign and have left because of the attitude of the staff. I really wanted to like this tack shop. They do have a large selection of consignment items that are nice quality. I came to the store looking for a saddle and when I went downstairs to look at the saddles, the staff member looked at me then walked out of the room once I walked in. She did not acknowledge me or offer any assistance. I can honestly say do not expect any help or direction on anything in this store. When I came back to return the saddle because it did not fit my horse properly the women working there were EXTREMELY RUDE. I was actually going to take out another saddle and decided against it because of how I was treated. I was barely acknowledged and they acted as if I was a huge inconvenience to them when they did have to acknowledge me. Maybe they could sense the out of townie on me and they are nicer to people that frequent the store. But wow the customer service is HORRIBLE. read more
