Beautiful tack shop with such a nice selection of English and Western saddles! I love that I can consign my old tack and riding gear while finding some amazing preowned saddles. The owners are so helpful and friendly. I went because of their deals on ThinLine saddle pads, and was so impressed with the selection! What a hidden gem! i had tried to sell some tack on marketplace and kept dealing with no shows. I put a few things on consignment there last month and have already received two payouts. Their wine selection and prices were also top notch. The owner really took the time to listen to what we liked, gave us some wine recommendations and offered a free tasting. We tasted three wines we'd never tried before and bought all three! Such a cool place and a neat concept combining wine and saddlery, I will definitely be back! read more

The Galloping Grape has moved since I authored my first review. I discovered it was no longer in the old location as of yesterday (07-26-2011). So today I stumbled across the new location - much more accessible than the old location! As always, good wine selection, including a respectable assortment of Virginia wines, a fairly massive selection of craft brews (chilled and available as singles!), cigars, and of course - quite the assortment of leather equestrian gear! Drove an hour to look at their saddle inventory. Waited 10 minutes while the employee (wasn't the owner) talked with a very chatty customer who wasn't purchasing anything. When she finally left, I asked about some bridles. The employee didn't seem interested in helping me. She then commenced conversating with a friend of hers who was there to purchase wine. A little tough to find, its one block 'down the hill' from Main St behind Claire's (the old train depot) and at the end of the walking trail. Its an odd mixture of products (horse and wine) but I think that reflects more of the owners taste than any recent study on marketability. Very nice selection of wines with more appeal for quality than breadth. Owner and staff are knowledgeable and very helpful. One of my favorites for special gifts or hosting a nice (but not terribly expensive) dinner party. Enjoy! read more

This place seems like a hidden gem and has a very interesting combination of new/used saddles as well as wine and beer. Who would have thought of this combination but it works in Warrenton. I have been to a number of wine tastings and the owners and tasters bend over backwards to make you feel welcome. I have bought a couple of used saddles as well and the prices are great! The prices are lower than the grocery stores too for wine. It's so convenient, I don't think I'll buy from a grocery store any more. read more

I have consigned several saddles here in the past and all was well, until today. I had a very nice, older English saddle on consignment there for quite a bit of time. Every once in a while, I'd stop in and check with the owner - Still good? Want me to pick up? Etc. Each time I was told, "The saddle is here. I'm happy to keep trying to sell. I won't get rid of it. The shop policy is to never get rid of or donate ANYTHING unless I talk to the consignor." Today I was in the area and decided it's time to take the saddle back. The following is an exact account of what happened. The first few minutes, everything was friendly and casual. I jokingly tell Owner I wasn't too worried about the saddle, no big deal, it's not worth a whole lot, just wanted to come get it since it hasn't sold. In reality, I am very concerned, the saddle is still usable even though it's an older model, and I am not in a financial position to just get rid of valuable tack. (What horse person ever is?) Owner went to back storage area to retrieve the saddle. Returns to the counter, says she can't find it right now, but it has to be here. She checks the computer and older paper files for the consignment record. After looking thru paperwork, owner can't find a record of sale or anything. Then the story changes. She tells me "a friend of mine" stopped in and told her that I authorized her to pick up the saddle. WHAT? WHO? WHEN? No, that would NEVER happen! And if that were true, why did I drive out of my way today to pick it up? Owner said she is very concerned about the situation, and wants time to research it further. So I left but told her I would stop back by in a few hours after running other errands. A few hours later, the story changes again. Owner calls and says "Sometime in October 2017, my assistant called your number and left 2 messages, never heard back, then called a third time and spoke directly to whoever answered the phone, and was told you didn't want the saddle back and to just donate it." So I told her I have a photographic memory for conversations (true statement!). I have never received phone calls, messages, or spoken to anyone from tack shop by phone in recent memory. It's my cell phone, I'm the only one who has access to it. And again, if I told you to get rid of it, why would I come in today to pick it up? And when I first came to get it, why were you so surprised the saddle wasn't in your storage area? Where is my saddle? I checked my phone call in/out log, all the way back to April 2017. There is not a single call or message from the tack shop number, or any number in that exchange. There are no unknown caller numbers, either, that could have been from an alternate line. Owner tried to suggest she called my home number instead. We don't answer the home number, keep it for emergencies, and check messages daily. No one in the family would have picked up the home phone and told someone to get rid of a saddle. That didn't happen. I returned to the tack shop after the phone call. Owner changed her story again, and said it wasn't her assistant who made the 3 calls, it was actually her, and she talked to me directly. I pulled out my cell phone, scrolled thru the phone log and asked her to point out the number she called me from. Oh, look... there were NO CALLS from the shop, from April 2017 until today. There were other customers in the shop so Owner refused to continue the conversation. She stopped talking. Just because I said it was "no big deal and I didn't care too much," that doesn't mean you can dismiss me or this situation. I do care. It matters to me. Consignors care about their stuff. They care about getting paid for it. If your policy has always been that you do not get rid of any items without talking to the consignor, then what went wrong here? Why wasn't your own stated policy followed in this situation? You never called or notified me that you wanted the saddle to be picked up. Verizon has no record of contact on either home or cell phone. If you had called, I would have been there SAME DAY to retrieve. Remember: 1) You seemed very surprised at first that my saddle was not in your back storage area. 2) If I told you to get rid of the saddle, why did I stop in today to retrieve it? 3) MOST IMPORTANT: WHY DID YOU KEEP CHANGING THE STORY AS THE DAY CONTINUED? WHY DID YOU KEEP TELLING MORE AND MORE LIES TO ME? YOUR CUSTOMERS DESERVE BETTER THAN TO BE TOLD LIES ABOUT THEIR PROPERTY. I would like you to STOP LYING and own up to this situation. Tell me where my saddle is. Tell me what REALLY happened here. Be honest about this for a change. You said you donated it. When was it donated? Where was it donated? It is far more likely my saddle was sold and proceeds never delivered. Some legal remedy or financial compensation is owed here, as you violated your own stated policies. I would also like a sincere personal apology. Something here just does not add up. Consignors, beware. read more

I love this store. It has an excellent selection of used saddles (particularly dressage saddles, yay!), and the women who run the store are not only incredibly friendly, but very knowledgeable. I recently had a tracing of my horses back completed by a saddle fitter. I took this tracing to multiple tack shops, all of which had employees with varying abilities to fit the tracing to a saddle. The women at the Galloping grape not only understood that a saddle needs to fit a horse at more than just the withers, but also worked with me through multiple visits, as I attempted to find a saddle for my mare. Separate from the tack, the store has a wonderfully eclectic mix of art, jewelry, wines, and other odds and ends. If your spouse isn't into horses, there are still things for him/her to enjoy while you shop. This has become my favorite tack shop in the area. read more

I called today to get some help. I needed them to look and see if they had some spurs that I had seen there before. She refused to go look for me and said I need to just come look myself. I stated I was an hour away and have two small kids making it difficult to just swing by and look. She still insisted she couldn't help me and didn't know what I was looking for and I just had to do it myself. Wow!!! What service!! Or lack there of!! Equine and Wine! How great is this? Hundreds of bottles of wine, craft beer, cigars and horsey stuff in one place. I'm in heaven from the minute the smell of the beautiful reconditioned, and reasonably priced, saddles hits me! Wine (and beer) tastings - Thursday nights at 5 -- FUN! I love that you can find a reasonable "every day" drinking wine, and also that bottle for a special occasion - with super recommendations for either. Kim, the owner, has never steered me wrong with wine, or my horse needs. I have actually seen her lose a sale, referring a customer someplace else for a product that she did not have in stock to insure a horse was getting what they needed. Good tack and good wine in one place? What's not to love?!? I've bought and sold multiple saddles at The GG, attended many tastings, bought gifts, halters, saddle pads, grooming supplies, not to mention wine,... never an issue with the products or service. The thing I may appreciate most is the saddle fitting advice. You can even test drive saddles before making your purchase. There is also plenty of different types of wines, beers and cigars if that's what you like.
