Turns out, of all the modern Romance languages, Spanish is the closest to the Roman language. It's closer to Roman Latin than modern Italian! This is the sort of thing one learns when stuck with a socio-linguist for any amount of time at a conference. Anyway, Monterrey doesn't quite have the variety of produce at El Rey, and MM is a little cramped. They have a good selection of alcohol and I always find great deals on wine. They generally have Dogfish Head, Three Sheeps, and a few others that you don't always find everywhere even if they're not exactly rare. Prices are generally good for the other items in the store too. There's a lot of teas and some other dry goods. But we were there for the deli. It was definitely past peak hours and some items were sold out. But I got some (yellow?) rice and some beef stew. The seasoned rice was flavorful for being so deceptively simple. The beef stew was good too if a little salty. I would definitely come back more toward lunchtime. I've always liked the mom-and-pop "neighborhood" vibe about Pueblo too. If I lived closer I would be there more often.
