Nice thick crispy fried chicken breast, a couple slices of bacon, melted American cheese and a hand battered onion ring on top. I got the BBQ on the side since it was a to-go order. This sandwich did not disappoint. Everything worked. The BBQ sauce had just enough of a bite very good. The only thing I would do different is sub the fries for onion rings. The fries were frozen from a bag. The ORs were hand battered and d do good.

Anyways. It gets worse. They were out of cheese and other items. This is an ordering issue. You knew it was going to be a busy weekend why not be prepared. Or if you know you're out of bottled water or cheese send someone down the street and get canned drinks, water and cheese. Easy fix! Well we ordered around 1pm which they close at 2. After getting back from the inconvenience of having to get drinks I had to go out to the car. It was 157pm. As I get back from the car the front door was locked. Ok no problem I'll come through the exit door. Nope! There is no handle no nothing to open the door. There was another older man outside as well and we had both left out phones outside. Last resort I had to knock on the glass and a customer stood there. I saw a lady that worked there staring at me through the glass but she never acknowledged me or the man. So when I get in I told the older lady if people go outside how do they get back in. Her exact response was we don't want anymore people in here were closed and I'm tired. Very unprofessional response. I then was at the table talking with my wife about why I was locked out and the lady rudely interrupted me trying to correct what I was saying. I politely told her to mind her own business as I was taking to my wife. Like I said before it's sad that I have to write this because I consider the owner a friend but she was not here at the time so I want to make sure she knows what's going on in her restaurant. Onion rings are one of the hub's favorites so off we went. The restaurant is located inside an old railroad warehouse and it has a very rustic atmosphere. You can feel the history ooze from the building's pores as you slide into your seat and get ready to take in the nice sized menu selections. I had a few items picked out from different sections and Zyra our waitress helped me make the best choice. We started out with the onion rings with ranch dressing and we DEVOURED THEM! We both chose the blackened catfish and were both very pleased. The fillets were perfectly cooked with nice seasoning and topped with pico de gallo. The pico added some much welcome acidity and zestiness to the dish. I ordered the pinto beans and crispy new potatoes and they were all superb. We enjoy stopping in Nacogdoches and soaking up the history and great food that the oldest town in Texas has to offer! We will definitely return to Clear Springs. There are way too many items on that menu that I need to enjoy!

We literally had to wave her down from across the room just to get her attention. After helping our daughter move for school, we returned to the hotel exhausted. We had already had an early dinner, so we decided to have a drink and order a light appetizer and dessert poolside. The bar was crowded, and although three different servers came through the pool area, not one stopped at our table to ask whether we needed menus or anything else. We eventually had to flag someone down ourselves. Unfortunately, that interaction seemed to set the tone for the remainder of the evening. The staff we encountered were consistently unwelcoming and inattentive. It gave the impression that they were simply there to complete their shift rather than provide the level of hospitality guests should reasonably expect. The atmosphere was also frustrating. A toddler was repeatedly screaming at the top of her lungs while a musician was performing, and the child's father made no apparent effort to address the situation. While that is not necessarily the hotel's responsibility, the combination of the disruptive environment and poor service made for a particularly unpleasant experience. The situation became even more frustrating when we accidentally left my arm brace on the table as we hurried to finish our nightcap and leave. Within approximately five minutes of realizing it was missing, my husband returned to retrieve it. Since it had been left on the table moments earlier, we expected that the server or another staff member would be able to locate it easily. Instead, he was sent from the bar to the kitchen and then to the front desk. After approximately 15 minutes, he returned without the item. That experience reinforced the impression I had already formed earlier in the day: there appears to be very little communication or coordination among the staff. No one seemed to take ownership of a simple guest-service issue or make an effort to resolve it efficiently. When guests are paying nearly $600 for two nights in a small town such as Nacogdoches, particularly at a property marketed as one of the best accommodations in the area, there is an expectation of professional, attentive hospitality. Guests should feel welcomed, recognized, and valued. Unfortunately, I did not experience that during my stay. The attitude of the waitress who ultimately served us was particularly disappointing and significantly affected the overall experience. Her demeanor was not appropriate for someone working in a customer-service position, much less one at a property presenting itself as a higher-end accommodation. I strongly recommend that management take a closer look at staff training, communication, accountability, and expectations surrounding guest service. Tipping is part of the hospitality industry, and guests should not have to repeatedly seek out employees for basic service. Based on this experience, I will not be staying here again. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and uses it as an opportunity to improve the guest experience for future visitors.
