The food is fine, but $8 will get you two small egg rolls with no sauce. $30 will get you a 1/2 portion dinner entree. No craft beers on tap, the most minimal scotch and bourbon options I've ever seen. No plans to go back. read more

We made an impromptu stop on a week night to check out this new spot and were glad we did. I always want to support new local business in Chesterfield, and this restaurant had the added benefit of offering an elevated menu at a reasonable price. 4-5 appetizers, 4-5 entrees and 2 desserts are on the current menu with a nice selection of wines. (There was a full bar, but the Malbec was all we were after tonight.) We ordered the shrimp and pork dumplings, butternut squash bisque (not pictured) the salmon and tenderloin and enjoyed every last bite. We will definitely be back and hope you all will too. We were the only people in the restaurant as I don't think word has gotten out entirely yet, so I advise going soon before they're completely booked every night! read more

So many things went right at our meal at Midlothian Chef's Kitchen on Friday, but there were several big misses. The appetizers (dumplings and chees plate) were excellent. The mixed greens salad was so over-salted that we couldn't eat it. When we sent the salad back, the waiter wasn't upset. What was odd was that he didn't react at all. We asked for a replacement salad and he took the dish without a word and quickly replaced it without even acknowledging the problem much less apologizing. We thought it was odd but were ready to move on. Except we didn't see him again for the next half hour. He did finally reappear when another table complained about his absence. When the entrees finally arrived, they were excellent. My hanger steak was perfectly cooked and had fabulous seasonings. Every bite was amazing. The salmon dish was also expertly prepared. It's clear that they were understaffed as so many businesses are. We won't conclude after one visit that the front of the house can't rise to the level of the kitchen. We will give them another shot in a month or so because the food was (mostly) outstanding. read more

Another fabulous meal at MCK. Went for a date night and it did not disappoint! Started w a pork belly and honey roasted brussel sprout appetizer w a parsnip purée which was amazing. And I really don't like brussels - except these! Both of our main dishes (paired w the chef recommended wine) were outstanding (parm crusted pork w crispy potatoes over romesco sauce and a homemade ramp cavatelli pasta dish - sauce was fabulous). We topped it off with the basil cake w lemon Marscapone ice cream and strawberries. Nothing like we have ever had. Our server Ben was superb and he made the recommendations for our mains and dessert. We had dinner at Midlothian Chef's Kitchen during their second week in business and it was amazing! It's obvious that the Chef is highly skilled and we loved the variety of options on the menu. We had the oxtail egg rolls and butternut squash bisque as an appetizer, which were both incredible. For our entrees, I had the beef tenderloin which was superb (and a ton of food) and my boyfriend had the roasted duck. Equally delicious, but a smaller portion. And the honey butter that comes with the fresh bread is beyond amazing!!! We highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to visiting again. This restaurant is superb. Ambience, service and of course the food is absolutely top notch. Somewhat formal without being stuffy, elevated without trying to reinvent the wheel. Every bite from appetizers to dessert was absolutely delicious. The cocktails, even the mocktails were great. I can't believe that this extremely sophisticated eatery is tucked into such a discrete corner of the south side. Let's start with the good: the restaurant has done a very good job of managing the sound level. You can talk to the people at your table with ease while still hearing the music they play. We also enjoyed the playlist. Our waitress was very nice and personable. Now for the not so good: We waited about 45 minutes to be sat for a reservation we made far in advance. No one seemed bothered by the growing line of people in the same position outside in the cold. Management was notably absent and they were totally content to let a 16 year old (or however old) hostess handle the crowd on her own. Several people ended up leaving because of the clusterf*ck at check-in. We were asked to move to the bar to wait for our table to be cleaned off. While at the bar, my partner asked the bartender if it was always this chaotic. The bartender dismissively replied that yes it was, but several people had called out leaving them short staffed. Ok, I know that happens. Plenty of staff were walking around and attending to guests. It seemed more to me like they oversat their reservations, but after 15 years of food service experience, I probably wouldn't know. Once seated, it took us about an hour to get our food. The food was not mindblowingly good. The food was just normal and the bare minimum I'd expect. You are not going to get anything different than any other high end restaurant anywhere else in the city. Portions are very small, which is to be expected at a Michelin star restaurant (which this is not but the chef has experience with), but for this quality food, you should get more than you do. The waitress did warn us of the long ticket time, to her credit. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation at 7:30, and didn't leave until after 10. We didn't order an abnormal amount of food, just entrees, but this is how long the entire process took. Thats fine, we didn't have anything to do after, but should be mentioned in case someone wants to make plans after a dinner here. The icing on the cake for me was when we were leaving and my partner asked the (same) bartender where the bathroom was. A staff member kindly pointed us in the correct direction, but not after the bartender sarcastically replied, "there's a pot for you to p*ss in out back." I was shocked at this remark and perhaps while all the rest could be forgiven, this type of attitude is simply inexcusable. The completely unbothered attitude that some of the staff carries at this establish shows you that they think they can get your money regardless and they don't owe you any service. This isn't the type of restaurant you want to support, trust me. read more

We preferred 3 entrees, two arrived cold, and the other was muddled with a greasy sauce, which should have been on the side. The service is hectic, but friendly. The Chicken sandwich was on point, loved everything, the burger was a little dry, there were no sauces like Mayo, but maybe we had to order that . Overall very satisfied ! The food was good however a bit overrated. Ordered the salad which was good nothing extra special. Had the smoked chicken, was again good the gnocchi were a bit mushy could use more texture, they were more of a mashed potato. The chicken was hard to cut in the serving bowl it came in. Need to serve it in a more shallow plate. Deserts were slim pickings so didn't order any. Service was good but boy can he talk fast almost like he was on speed or cocaine. For such a specialized restaurant and considered higher end, need to have the bathrooms cleaner. So much dust and dirt on the baseboards and floors were not very clean which makes me wonder how clean the kitchen is. I may consider going back but not anytime soon. read more

Had the opportunity to go to Midlothian Chef's kitchen for a recent birthday dinner. Because I had a large lunch prior to going, I wasn't able to order much as I'm not one for wasting food. What I did try was pretty tasty. I had the pork belly appetizer as a "meal," because I like said, I had a big lunch. While the pork belly was pretty good, I wasn't truly prepared for the portion. I think my eyes would have been tricked If it were cubed instead of in a singular piece. While I do understand that fine dining is more about the aesthetic and experience, I appreciate that the dish was flavorful. I also entered a dry month, so it was comforting to have a mocktail that didn't lack in presentation like the other guests who had cocktails. I had a smoked "in-fashion" and the mocktail was served under a smoking glass to give the illusion of its traditional counterpart. I truly enjoyed it as a lot of mocktails come off as mostly juice and no creativity. I must say, when I have an actual appetite, I will have to try them again. read more

Based on our previous experiences we took our daughter from out of town to this restaurant. Our experience this time was very disappointing. She ordered Corn Chowder as an appetizer which was good but not hot. Our salad was very tasty. My Rock Fish was terrible. It was not hot, small, thin, tough, overcooked, and covered by a leathery skin which couldn't be eaten and clung to the meat. My wife's salmon could have been good except it too was not hot. I was disappointed that there were no lactose free items identified on the menu and our server indicated that the chefs aren't thrilled to make any accommodations. We have always loved the food here! The kitchen does a fantastic job, and they bring "Whiskey Business" in a lot to provide some excellent entertainment! The bartenders make some killer cocktails too! The only thing we didn't appreciate on our most recent experience was feeling like we were being rushed out the door. We ordered appetizers, entrees, and several cocktails on a night that the restaurant wasn't very busy. We wanted to sit and enjoy our cocktails and the band, and told our waitress as much. But as soon as our drinks came to the table she brought our checks, before our friends could even order another drink. So they just sat awkwardly while we finished our drinks., and she came back multiple times to see if the checks were ready to be taken. Overall we like this place and will likely come back, but this experience was awkward and unpleasant toward the end. read more

Highly disappointed in our food and experience at this restaurant. We had a table of 7 adults and one toddler. The service was incredibly lacking, it was difficult to get the waitresses attention and she seemed disinterested at best. I had the duck and it was completely tasteless and overcooked, my husband had the NY strip and there was no flavor at all. Other guests had the pork, which was undercooked and fatty, the salmon that was also undercooked. Overall not a great experience or flavor. They do not have kids cups and gave my toddler a glass for his drink, obviously he ended up dropping it. When the bill came there was a 20% gratuity added which was egregious for the service we got. It was almost as if she didn't care about how well she served us knowing the tip was coming no matter what. Overall very disappointing, would not go back. read more

Our first visit to Midlothian Chef's Kitchen was a great one! I don't like sweet cocktails, so I asked our server, Anna, what she recommended - the GRTC. It was wonderful - while I couldn't even taste the liquor, I certainly felt it about 20 minutes later! My husband I started with the smoked salmon salad - beyond good. The dressing was sublime and everything was so fresh. For my meal, I had the avocado toast - again, just delicious. The bacon cream was outstanding - I love when I eat out and have something that I cannot really make at home! My husband had the sage sausage and biscuit. He loved it. Went for lunch. The fried chicken sandwich was recommended by helpful server, so I had it. I can say that it was crunchy to the last bite! & it was still juicy & delicious. Lovely dinner. We had great cocktails with salad and chestnut bisque as appetizers. Salad with blueberries and goat cheese was a wonderful new combination for us. The soup was to die for. Looooooong pauses between ordering and getting cocktails. And long wait times between courses as well. Entrees were the Dijon encrusted salmon and the sage butternut squash pasta. Both delicious- but my husband was expecting an actual crust on the salmon (me too). The fresh pasta was just right with a creamy sauce that I won't hesitate to order again. I use a walker and appreciate the large restroom - but navigating between tables was a bit of a challenge. I wouldn't recommend for wheelchair bound folks. Next time we will plan our visit we will make sure it's on a day we have plenty of time. Oh - and they need to water the peace plant more regularly. It was fully wilted when we arrived and I couldn't eat in peace looking at that - but when I asked, our server Patrick, watered it and by the time we left it was perking up. read more

Suffice to say service was terrible all night, took too long to get appetizer and then entrees, expensive entrees were cold on arrival, one entree plating was slid to one side on the plate like pizza topping that had slid to one side of a tilted pizza box, customers seated after us received their meals before us, had to request water and bread for our table while it was automatic for other tables. There's more. We chose to leave rather that request our meals be heated. All disappointments were enumerated to the bartender who was also our table waiter.
