This review is on service and service alone. When I lived in California I would go to BJs twice a week no exaggeration lol. It's been a while since I've been in since the one in short pump is a bit out of the way. I came in a few weeks ago craving a pizookie realllll bad and decided to stop in after leaving the office. A few cars in lot but not busy. I walked in and there wasn't a host or anyone to greet. That's fine, I typically sit at the bar anyway. I waited a bit before anybody came out from the back. The restaurant is practically empty so waiting over 10 mins just to be greeted is crazy. Whatever, I took note and ordered my meal. Some people came in and waited a while as well for a host to appear. I went back last week hoping for a quick bite and another pizookie (the biscoff is beyond delicious). Once again there's no one at the host stand or even near the take out. I head to the bar again and notice one lady having a meal. I sat down and set up my laptop to do some work while I had my late lunch. Minutes go by and no one comes out. A manager (I assume) has a seat behind me and starts a mini meeting with an associate. Still no one has acknowledged me or anything. It's going on 15-20 mins. I would've at least liked a glass of water since it was 98° outside. Needless to say I packed up my stuff and headed out and that's when the bartender appeared with a menu. I left and went to Coopershawk. We had a gift card for BJ's and decided to go for dinner. We ordered chicken tortilla soup and salad, chicken club, and lemon pepper dry rub boneless wings. Service was friendly, but the kitchen was really slow. My soup had a lot of spice to it, which was super good. The salad had a good amount of veggies. My husband's sandwich was full of chicken, but he thought it was a bit bland. My son liked his boneless wings, but wished there was more seasoning. BJ's never disappoints. They have some of the best roasted wings in Richmond! I am a lemon pepper wings with ranch type of girl and they do a great job with providing flavorful wings. My husband is into beer, so every time we go he tries something new and seems to really enjoy their brews. I also enjoy their salads because they aren't o overwhelming and you can eat it in one seating. BJ's is a large space and has a sporty ambiance. If I could give them no stars I would. My husband and I decided to do something different and order takeout from BJ's tonight. We haven't gone in quite a while, but this is where we had our first date all those years ago. Our most recent visit we ate in a restaurant for my birthday. Unfortunately, they managed to screw up my food twice and the manager felt so bad that we were given a $25 card for our next visit. Fast-forward to tonight and we ordered a bunch of food. We were super excited to get home to enjoy our dinner and was met with nothing but disappointment. It started off with the nachos when I asked them to hold a few things and put the other things on the side such as the sour cream and guacamole, I ended up with a container full of nacho chips that were rancid, a container of shredded cheese, and a container of chopped up chicken for US to assemble. We ended up with no sour cream or guacamole either. Then came the sampler platter, which was nothing special. Everything managed to get barbecue sauce on it so everything tasted the same .All of the food was ice cold not even sort of warm. Then we move on to the Parmesan crusted chicken which also tasted rancid. The same chips that were rancid were served with the spinach artichoke dip, which was also cold and had zero taste. My husband had the Italian chicken Parmesan and said it was edible, but that's not saying much considering that he eats everything and doesn't complain. We have not eaten our.Pzookies yet but I'm not holding my breath. I'm so glad I paid for that experience. I don't think we will be returning. If you plan on eating here, good luck! The service was slow (tho it was a party of 13) we were assigned one waitress and the restaurant wasn't visibly busy but hey it was a Monday night. Our waitress did her best in getting the orders to the table and she was very apologetic for the wait (another guest and myself had the longest wait time) thought a manager would come and check in with our party but that didn't happen. Now to the good stuff: Tropical Long Island (3.9/5) almost creamy and fruity could have used a bit more alcohol but for $6 it was good. I also ordered the Pizookie Meal Deal for $13 (avail Monday-Friday, choose from select list and get a mini pizzokie for $13) southern fried chicken meal (I sub'd the succotash for broccoli) the mashed potatoes were seasoned well and the chicken was tasty also (overall 4.1/5) though my meal came when some of the party was more than half way done it came out piping hot. I got the mini hot fudge brownie pizzokie to go which came in a mini cookie tin, side of vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream and a cherry (4.5/5) overall good brownie. Ordered from here a second time after a couple years of avoiding it following a mediocre-at-best experience. It has only gotten worse. Small things matter - ordered for curbside pickup - tried to check in on the app but this location isn't supported. So called the # on the sign and of course, nobody answers two calls a couple minutes apart. So I go in, no one working the pick up area. The place is kind of dismal inside, dark, everything is painted black. No appeal to this place whatsoever. A waitress finally comes by after about 5 minutes and we get our food. Orders were for burgers and fries - the burgers had toppings mixed up, no big deal - the bun was a soggy mess from the tomato and the taste was of what you get when a grill is not being cleaned. A greasy, burnt taste that overpowers everything else. The fries were cold and soggy. Tossed mine after half. You can tell a lot about a place by the little things that add up to an overall experience - this one was where every facet of the experience was a disappointment. I say it's a management issue - management is plainly not concerned with running a place with a focus toward satisfying customers. Will preface that this was late morning, before noon, and there were only two other active tables in the entire restaurant. She asked if checks would be separated, which I appreciated, and we advised of how they should be broken up. Great! Food was then ordered. About 30 minutes later, the first four plates arrived, then nothing. 12 minutes later 2 more arrived. First group were done with their food. Politely asked why food was so staggered and far apart. "Not in my control" was the response. Manager was requested, didn't show for 10 minutes and was asked if they were understaffed and we were still missing 9 orders and we were, now, on a time crunch for a birthday commitment that we never thought would be an issue if service was consistent. Manager was an unsympathetic dick, and that is being polite. The last 9 orders staggered out after another 30 minute period. 1.5 hours from ordering to all parties getting food, the later plates had to be boxed to go because we had to be somewhere else. Truly horrid service and worse management. Pathetic! BJ's in Charlottesville is ran so well and this is why we chose this location in Short Pump. Huge mistake. We arrived promptly at our reserved time, but 35 minutes passed before anyone spoke to, or greeted us. All the tables around us were being served, but we were completely ignored. Our grub: -- "Gourmet" Five Meat Mini Pizza: part of the $12 lunch special. Reminded me of a slightly elevated Red Baron. Good enough to satiate but not something I'd ever want again. -- Caesar Salad: came with the pizza. Tasty but contained many wilted pieces of lettuce on the bottom. -- Garlic Shrimp with Parmesan Toast: we were enticed by the display on the table, so the ads are working as they should. Unfortunately, it was just mediocre. It's seriously something we could've made at home as we were expecting more seasoning on the shrimp, and the parmesan on the toast was missing in action. -- Signature Wings: their wings used to hit the spot! Today, they tasted like leftovers that I reheated in the air fryer. -- Strawberry Lemonade: very sweet but tasty. -- Honey Sriracha Brussel Sprouts: all the honey sriracha was on the bottom. Like, seriously. It takes two seconds to toss sprouts in some sauce. -- Fries: the best thing we ordered. The QR code on the table doesn't list a table number, so it's pretty much there for decoration. QR codes are also printed on the receipts which is convenient, but if you're splitting checks, it takes awhile to correctly populate, so it ended up being simpler for me to cover the whole check the traditional way. I've been to BJ's in other cities before, but the experience here was definitely the worst, maybe even the worst dining experience I've had. We were seated right away, but the waitress seemed off her game or something. She barely checked on us, and we had to ask her multiple times for stuff. I understand that she may be busy, but she served tables that came after us first. We ordered appetizers, entrees, and desserts, and she didn't clear our table once. We had to clear it ourselves and give it to her. On to the food: my aunt ordered the chicken parm, and she said it was so dry. My other aunt ordered a burger, and it was missing lettuce and tomato. My Santa Fe salad was okay. I loved the huge portion size, but on the menu, they said it had beans and avocado, and there were none. I also wanted to order the margaritas flight and a clam chowder bread bowl, but they were out of them. The new Cinnabon Pizookie was delicious; it comes with ice cream and caramel sauce. My deep dish pizza would have tasted great if it had enough sauce on the pizza. Not putting enough sauce on a deep dish pizza is a huge mistake because it has too much bread. I have been to the BJ'S in mear Fredericksburg which is the reason I set up a birthday party dinner at the Short Pump location. They were not really busy for a Friday night. We had about 20 people reserved but, only one server. We were not belligerent, we were very patient. Our drinks order wasn't taken for about 15 minutes after arrival we waited almost another 20 minutes to get them. During the rest of the evening I was taking drinks from the bar by myself to our table. I had to clean the table of empty glasses, plates and bowls. The staff Manager Matt was incredibly helpful when he heard of what was happening. He was great.(he comped the appetizers for us) for the Mix up with my steak. and come to find out after we had left, my wife (her birthday)never got her dinner., She ate my leftovers on the way home. I have been to other restaurants where other staff would come around to help get orders out and clear tables. This BJ'S service would have made IHOP look like Red Salt. When you are spending nearly $300.00 in my personal bill for dinner (the others all spent between $50-$100 each)that this is not what you should get. read more

Place wasn't busy, we got a table right away, place looked clean all around but it was almost as chilly inside as it was outside lol so we kept our jackets on! The restaurant lost money because the waiter wasn't around to order another beer etc or deliver anything we ordered in a reasonable timeframe. I continue to be unimpressed with this place. The menu is huge and has lots of options. I came with coworkers during lunch on a Monday. They were not crowded and still provided subpar service. I had the deep dish ziti and it was okay. I needed more noodles for the meat in the dish. The taste was a lot cheaper than the price. We had to wait forever for the waitress to come back to the general vicinity to flag her down for the check. One of my coworkers had half their meal left and had to go searching for a box herself. As a side note the doors in the bathroom didn't lock, the hooks on the door were missing and once I found one that had a locking door, it didn't flush. We stayed at the Hilton which is a walk to BJs and decided after a long day of shopping to bring the food back to the hotel to eat. When we arrived at the restaurant, they said there was an issue with the order but no worries - it would be hot. We got back to the hotel and noted no silverware was added nor napkins. I had ordered the prime rib French dip and it was the worse I have ever had. The meat was cold and fatty and I pulled half of it to toss. They also did not provide the au jus sauce to dip it nor ketchup for fries. My granddaughter ordered boneless chicken wings which were pretty good. They did forget the side of ranch which we requested. The only reason this review gets two stars is that we ordered a brownie dessert which was very tasty - but without silverware for the brownie /ice cream!! We had to borrow silverware from the hotel. We don't live in this area but will come to shop and this was very disappointing. Perhaps dining in the restaurant is better - but if you do takeout, be warned to check your bags before you leave. read more
