Our first visit to Midnight Magdalena. I will admit, it did not knock our socks off, but they are in a lovely location and we did not taste any bad wines. We shared a white flight and a red flight. Our consensus is the 2022 Silver Moon is the best of the whites and the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is the best of the reds and the best overall. In good weather I'm sure it's is lovely to sit out on the porch. Would visit again. Cheers! read more

Enjoying our visit to wineries in the Elkin area. We got a white and a red wine flight so that we can try the different wines from Midnight Magdalena Vineyards. We enjoyed the wines and the atmosphere. In warmer weather, the deck will be a wonderful place to take in the mountain views. Ideal place for a guided wine tasting. The tasting was educational and reasonably paced. You have the option to stand at the bar or sit at a table for the tastings. If there are multiple parties present, it is easier to stand at the bar. All the wines sampled were dry and the flavors were faint. Since the tasting was guided, it was challenging to chat with friends. Usually we take our time to sip and enjoy the wines, while talking to one another. Therefore, we don't prefer this set-up. That being said, we did learn a lot during the tasting. Much more than we would have learned sampling the wines on our own. Prices are reasonable and comparable to other wineries in the Yadkin Valley. The tasting room is large and clean. Overall, none of the wines stood out to us, but most were average and enjoyable to drink. We would recommend this winery to others! read more

If you visit Midnight Magdalena ask how they got the name! 5 stars for the wine, the owners, the vineyards and the tasting. This winery was our first stop of our self guided wine tour of the Ronda area of NC. There are many Vineyards close by but this was a favorite. Writing this review after visiting four local wineries, the owner does hands down the best job explaining the wines and vines grown and produced at his vineyard. We visited the vineyards during the wineries anniversary weekend. They had a spread of complementary snacks to enjoys with our tasting. This is the type of place you want to stay awhile and enjoy a glass after the tasting. We were moving quickly and did not have time. I hope to be able visit again. This winery will be on my next NC winery tour! read more

This was stop #3 on my Yadkin Valley Winter Reds tour. Their offering was a Petit Verdot with brisket and baked beans with apples (that's a new one!) It began raining just as I got my samplings, and after recently moving from Sunny Southern California, I was more than happy to sit on the covered porch and enjoy the ambience Mother Nature kindly provided. The Petit Verdot was excellent, and I purchased a bottle to take home. As a BBQ aficionado I was a little disappointed in the brisket, but that's not their regular offering. The beans were decent. The staff was very friendly, despite the weather and being fairly busy. Definitely will visit again to try more of their wines. read more

What impressed us the most was the engagement we had mentioned the owner of the vineyard who was enthusiastic to share his knowledge and about his wine passion. Everything was simple yet beautiful and I was allowed to let my dog run around on the foothills above his property. While white wines aren't our first choice of wine his selection of dry whites were bar none - some of the better food we've been privileged to enjoy. It isn't the fanciest nor most elegant winery, but I prefer engaging with an owner vs an employee any day, his merlot is great as well. He had a dry, Mildly champagne like white that was his hit, if you stop in make sure to take a bottle home. read more

I have come to like this vineyard, even more because it is a little out of the way and you never really have to fight a crowd to get a bottle and sit on the large wrap around porch. I took home several bottles of their Corot Noir. It carries a deep dark and rich ruby color but a surprising lighter and good acidity making it an easy drinking wine on its own or paired with beef, Italian, or a stew. I by far is my favorite wine they make, but their Traminette is also a good bottle to take home. or to drink on the big porch. read more

Such a great place that doesn't have a big flashy website, just a beautiful cozy small tasting room and vineyard. I was by myself and was able to enjoy the room and wine in a nice cozy chair. Wow! All I can say is I love this place! We went to Jay Raffadinis prior to and the traffics flow was a lot slower here. Which was actually the beauty of it. Jim knew exactly what he was talking about and was so kind. I loved hearing about all the details behind the company. There was not a wine I did not like. Went to Raffaldini and Piccione prior to midnight Magdalena (MM). Views were spectacular at Raffaldini and Piccione and the wines were good. But the experience at MM was head and shoulders above the others. I'm sure it must be boring repeating the same thing endlessly but we wanted to learn. Learn what the wine maker is passionate about and what they're trying to say through their wines. MM took the time to tell us about each pour. Where the grapes were grown, how long the plot had been there, how the vines are maturing, the blend this year vs last and the foods to consider with each wine. Just felt we made a connection to the wine and winery. We'll done MM! read more

This is a great new vineyard in the Swan Creek Appellation. They specialize in dry-style wines, with a riesling, traminette, two montepulciano roses, a merlot, and a merlot-cab franc blend. All seven wines were nice, but my favorites were the riesling and the merlot. The Half Moon Rose was also really good (slightly bubbly and light). The owners were both present and great to speak with. I highly recommend this up and coming vineyard! read more

Jim, one of the owners did our wine tasting and he provided us with a thorough background on how they got started in the business from their motivation to moving from Michigan to start the winery and what makes their wine different from others in the region. Each of the wines we tasted were very good, even the whites which I normally don't like. We even had a glass of our favorites afterwards outside soaking in the sunshine and the Foothills. They also just released a new dry Riesling and even I (who usually does not go for Riesling) had a great appreciation for it. This was our last stop on our Thursday wine tour. We came in a bit disgruntled as several establishments we planned to visit have taken the "21 and older only" stance and we had my 8 & 10 year old kiddos with us as they were camping at Stone Mountain. The owner, Jim, is friendly, professional and describes his wines perfectly! This winery has picturesque views within a warm, welcoming setting. Don't let the lack of visitors turn you away, Midnight Magdalena is a great little winery that essentially operates out of a living room. Tastings are $7 for 6 wines and you get to keep the glass. They mostly focus on wines that tend to be in the sweeter style, but they have dry and semi-dry preparations of them. We loved speaking to the owners about the history and naming reasons behind Midnight Magdalena, and their wines were unique and excellent (The traminette was spectacular to me; very different.) If for nothing else, go here because they don't serve oyster crackers, they serve goldfish. Go for the wine and goldfish. read more

This is a young winery, with the vineyard only being a few years old - however you can absolutely taste the potential this place has. Already making good wine - this is a new must stop for us on our Yadkin Valley trips. Don't let the tasting room which looks like a house fool you. This winery was recommended to us by server at another winery...and we were glad for it! The drive up to the tasting room isn't fancy, but the facility (in a converted farm house) is beautiful! Airy, spacious and welcoming! And then the wines...My husband and I prefer dry wines over all else...and Midnight Magdalena delivered! The dry reisling was amazing...smooth and crisp and not sweet! The Merlot was fantastic and the roses were refreshing...perfect for summer. We bought 3 bottles of the reisling to serve at our Christmas dinner! We thoroughly enjoyed all of the wines. Jim ( the owner) was knowledgeable and very friendly, and was pouring our tasting. I'd recommend to anyone visiting NC wine country! read more

We have been visiting NC vineyards for years and this is the first time we have joined a wine club. We loved all the wines and look forward to visiting quarterly to pick up our wine and taste any new wines available. We were in NC for a college graduation and decided to stop at a few wineries on the way home. Midnight Magdalena was the third one of our choices. The tasting was well presented, they took the time to explain the history of the winery/vineyard as well being very personable the entire time. The tasting area was full, yet each person was treated as they were the only one there. The selections of wines was great, a little of everything. All that we tasted were very good and we did buy several to take home. Of all the visits we did, this is one I would visit again if I was ever in the area. read more

My friend and I were looking for new vineyards to visit (I have already been to a lot in NC.). We decided to do the Rhonda area and found this gem. The owners, Jim and Tauny, were there to greet us and gave us a wonderful tasting as well as an education. I was very surprised at how good their wines were, being as young as they were. The winery is beautiful and has plenty of seating inside and out. It was beautiful weather and we enjoyed a picnic with a glass of the delicious Traminette! I definitely will go back! read more
