a menu for a wine tasting

Ideal place for a guided wine tasting. The tasting was educational and reasonably paced. You have the option to stand at the bar or sit at a table for the tastings. If there are multiple parties present, it is easier to stand at the bar. All the wines sampled were dry and the flavors were faint. Since the tasting was guided, it was challenging to chat with friends. Usually we take our time to sip and enjoy the wines, while talking to one another. Therefore, we don't prefer this set-up. That being said, we did learn a lot during the tasting. Much more than we would have learned sampling the wines on our own. Prices are reasonable and comparable to other wineries in the Yadkin Valley. The tasting room is large and clean. Overall, none of the wines stood out to us, but most were average and enjoyable to drink. We would recommend this winery to others!

If you visit Midnight Magdalena ask how they got the name! 5 stars for the wine, the owners, the vineyards and the tasting. This winery was our first stop of our self guided wine tour of the Ronda area of NC. There are many Vineyards close by but this was a favorite. Writing this review after visiting four local wineries, the owner does hands down the best job explaining the wines and vines grown and produced at his vineyard. We visited the vineyards during the wineries anniversary weekend. They had a spread of complementary snacks to enjoys with our tasting. This is the type of place you want to stay awhile and enjoy a glass after the tasting. We were moving quickly and did not have time. I hope to be able visit again. This winery will be on my next NC winery tour!

Tasting in the rain. Love it!

This was stop #3 on my Yadkin Valley Winter Reds tour. Their offering was a Petit Verdot with brisket and baked beans with apples (that's a new one!) It began raining just as I got my samplings, and after recently moving from Sunny Southern California, I was more than happy to sit on the covered porch and enjoy the ambience Mother Nature kindly provided. The Petit Verdot was excellent, and I purchased a bottle to take home. As a BBQ aficionado I was a little disappointed in the brisket, but that's not their regular offering. The beans were decent. The staff was very friendly, despite the weather and being fairly busy. Definitely will visit again to try more of their wines.

What impressed us the most was the engagement we had mentioned the owner of the vineyard who was enthusiastic to share his knowledge and about his wine passion. Everything was simple yet beautiful and I was allowed to let my dog run around on the foothills above his property. While white wines aren't our first choice of wine his selection of dry whites were bar none - some of the better food we've been privileged to enjoy. It isn't the fanciest nor most elegant winery, but I prefer engaging with an owner vs an employee any day, his merlot is great as well. He had a dry, Mildly champagne like white that was his hit, if you stop in make sure to take a bottle home.

This place was absolutely amazing! For starters, you have a perfect view of the blue ridge mountains. The wine is absolutely incredible and it's a family run business. The owners were so welcoming, knowledgeable, and sweet. This will be a staple for us.

Wow! All I can say is I love this place! We went to Jay Raffadinis prior to and the traffics flow was a lot slower here. Which was actually the beauty of it. Jim knew exactly what he was talking about and was so kind. I loved hearing about all the details behind the company. There was not a wine I did not like. I'm usually very picky but turns out my taste buds know quality and that's exactly what Midnight Magdalene has. 10/10 def recommend and will visit again.

A glass of Merlot on a Sunday morning

This is a great new vineyard in the Swan Creek Appellation. They specialize in dry-style wines, with a riesling, traminette, two montepulciano roses, a merlot, and a merlot-cab franc blend. All seven wines were nice, but my favorites were the riesling and the merlot. The Half Moon Rose was also really good (slightly bubbly and light). The owners were both present and great to speak with. I highly recommend this up and coming vineyard!

New vineyard in the Yadkin Valley region. Tasting room looks like a two-story living room of a modern house. When we went, the owners were running the tasting, and they were really friendly and had some nice stories to share. As for the wine, they weren't really what I'd prefer. They also had some complimentary light snacks to offer.

Half Moon Rosé, yup just when I thought that genre wasn't for me, lovin' it.

So gracious to host my tasting outside w/ my Pita(dog). Enjoyed their Half Moon Rosé. Lovely shaded view.

Let me start with the service from Alexa, who was friendly and attentive the entire visit…read more Secondly I want to speak to the pizza we had there which was absolutely delicious, a bacon and brie pizza. Made in a wood fire oven the crust and overall pizza was absolutely the top that I have had recently. The creek if you want to walk down to it was very nice as well. I guess Elkin Creek is on the muddy side, but still quaint and nice to look at as well. Now the wine, I was not blown away unfortunately and each, had a way of making me think I was tasting some type of Kombucha due to the spices used in them an a lingering flavor. I couldn't put my finger on it, but it was that way through all of the six wines we tasted.

Lovely winery next to a large Creek. Alexa who assisted us was absolutely amazing and very sweet…read more Thank you Alexa for making our experience wonderful. Pizza that we ordered was delicious, with brie and bacon and the perfect thinness. It was quite large as well for $21 and we're still thinking about that pizza. But the wines, oh no, I never went to a winery where the wines tasted like they had a vinegar aftertaste. The only one we could stomach was the "soft white". We ordered a bottle of it to have with the Pizza and then walked around the premises to enjoy the creek. We're sad in our hearts that the wine just wasn't our taste, but if you want great wood fire pizza and a beautiful location, definitely come here.

Our flights: *Elkahol - I remember this one from years ago. It is still very good, great apple flavor, nice and sweet. *The Grateful Red - this was just okay, almost has a chocolate after taste, not for me. *BlackJack BJ - this had nice blackberry flavor, but we have had better blackberry wines, still good. *Slut Dog Sin - really good! Definitely got raspberry, but it was not overpowering. *Summer Daze - this was okay, it was definitely like a watermelon Jolly Rancher. *Spiker Dude - I am not a huge fan of coconut, so this one had way too much coconut for me. I got sunscreen at the beach vibes, definitely not for me. *Peachy Keen - this was very good, definitely peachy. *Bubba Lou's Choice - this was okay, definitely fruity. *Reel Good - I did not like this one. *Tattoo on the beach - this was okay, heavy on the citrus flavors. Favorites of the day were Elkahol, Slut Dog Sin, Peachy Keen, and Blackjack BJ. While Slightly Askew is not up there with my favorite NC wineries, they were still very enjoyable. They were super friendly, and are dog friendly on their patio areas. I would definitely recommend visiting if you are in the area.

Fantastic winery. Visited while we were camping in the area…read more Having visited 30+ wineries/vineyards in the past, Slightly Askew is easily in the top three. Both my wife and I like very dry reds. Most wineries that we have visited have had mostly sweet wines. Slightly Askew has a six wine tasting if just drys; two white and four red. We will definitely return the next time we are in the area. Very dog friendly with a water bowl on the deck and the owner brought out some treats (after asking if that was okay).
