When we were moving to North Carolina, I bookmarked this winery to visit when I was in California, and it did not disappoint. The wines were Italian varietals and excellent estate-grown and bottled. You may come for the wine but you will stay for the view. Nestled in the gorgeous foothills of NC amongst many wineries however, Piccione has one of the best views of nearby mountains accompanied by numerous great wines. This venue is popular for weddings and other gatherings as the space is perfect for social functions. The wines range from crispy Rose's to big and bold reds. There is definitely a wine for all. Prices range from about $28- $35 per bottle (on average for staple wines). The wine flight is actually a pretty heavy pour of four different wines from the theme (white's, big bold red's, etc.) that you choose. The staff were all great and very helpful. Tables are first come, first serve and like many wineries in the area - food is a struggle. Piccione had a food truck out front, like most do, and some snacks for purchase inside. Definitely worth adding to your Yadkin Valley Wine Tour route. read more

I got the opportunity to visit the Piccione Vineyards, and I must say I enjoyed myself! We visited the local vineyards in the area which all of them was an experience I will never forget. The Piccione Vineyard has that rustic Italian look that puts you in the mind of Italy. It sits atop a grassy hill surrounded with hardwood picnic tables, fireplace and stoned benches. The wines we tried were Pinot Grigio, Bianco Dolce, Rospira and Sangiovese. These wines were mostly dry, but with a great taste. The atmosphere was amazing as well! They had a food truck onsite with delicious food which is always a plus. We experienced great customer service with two beautiful women by the name of Raven and Camryn. They were so friendly and attentive to our needs. They helped us pick out the best wines that we simply enjoyed. Next time you're at Piccione Vineyards make sure to check out these ladies they will make your experience that much more enjoyable. Kudos to them for giving us the best service ever! Piccione just held its grand opening for their new tasting room and event center...a very nice building with a cool central tasting room and event spaces on either flank. They've continued to build their wine portfolio, and starting in late December they're ditching flights and going back to pre-COVID tastings. Currently they have a wide variety of whites, including Pinot Grigio and Vermintino, and their reds are largely blends minus a single varietal Sangiovese. I'm hopeful we'll see the return of Nero and Montepulciano. My problem is that with the new building has come a new attitude. What used to be a friendly, family atmosphere has been replaced by a very corporate feel reminiscent of their next door neighbors. They're open until 6 but maintain a strict last call at 5:30. I can understand that to a point, but inflexibility is never a good customer service move--especially when a group of 7 wants to enjoy a bottle of premium wine at 5:35. read more

Great stop in the Yadkin Valley wine region. The new tasting room is a beautiful space with soaring, beamed ceilings and some comfortable leather sofas. There's also a large indoor event room and a sixeable patio with expansive views across the vineyards to the foothills and mountains beyond. The staff is efficient and pleasant, the prices are quite reasonable, and the parking is all very convenient to the entrance. I enjoyed their vermentino and their sparkling wine offering. The wine at this winery is seriously good wine! It is Italian style wine and they definitely know what they are doing. They are next to another decent winery however this one allows dogs! The view from the top is spectacular! They are also building a new wine tasting room that is going to look like a castle. They are best known for a sparkling white, yum! They ask for no outside food ti be brought it as they sell food and there is usually a food truck. Only downside is that their neighbors' two loose dogs kept bothering my leashed dog. read more

We made a quick stop here on the way to Gorges State Park. We did a tasting (that's what we always like to start with when it's been a while since we've visited). There was live music outside and a food truck. Everyone here was very friendly and the service was great - very family/dog friendly. It appears that they are building a new tasting room (can't wait to see the finished product). The view is amazing. We did, however, choose to leave after our tasting because there was a large party inside that was being very loud and obnoxious (maybe they were at the tail end of a winery tour). Maybe large, loud parties could be asked to sit outside :) read more

We visited this weekend and I was blown away! They have a new tasting room with a huge deck with an amazing view! Staff were incredible, knowledgeable, and friendly. We loved our tasting. This is my favorite North Carolina Winery, hands down, no questions asked. Seated high up on a hill, Piccione offers spectacular views of the vineyard below, nearby farms, and gorgeous 180 degree views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. My favorite wine of theirs is the Sangoivese, I just think it is so well done. Their wines aren't too sweet like other NC wineries and they have a great selection of deep red wines which I love. The staff here are always so friendly and you have to keep an eye out for the wine dinners offered here! The wine dinners are top on my list of activities and I always watch for them to post an announcement about the next one. There is a bit of construction going on for the next year which may impact your visit as far as noise goes but it didn't bother me too much. I'm so excited to see the brand new La Collina building in early 2023! Dog friendly patio. read more

Im in complete agreement with the people who say the view is amazing. from the top of the hill is gorgeous, almost worth the drive itself. As for the rudeness of the staff, I did not really experience any rudeness or curtness or anything other than smiles. Lobster Dog food truck was there this day and it was a delight to be able to sit in the son, with a wonderfully buttery lobster roll, and a bottle of Vermentino on ice while enjoying conversation with my partner in crime. There was live music there and he was pretty good, mostly doing acoustic covers. As far as the wine goes it is ok. Pro tip...when in doubt when choosing a NC wine go with a white wine. Whites grow here pretty well and they don't really require aging. The Vermentino was a crisp and fruity wine. great for a warm day and prefect to cut through the buttery fat of the lobster roll. I opted for a bottle of Rose which I found to be pleasant. Outdoor seating was vast with tables scattered here and there. Great views and subpar wine, simply trash service. I made the mistake of attempting to buy a bottle of wine from a cooler next to the tasting counter. Apparently that specific refrigerator - which not only was within reach, but conveniently accessible, was solely for the owner. Unfortunately, there was not a single other Chardonnay available for consumer purchase. Frankly, I am at a loss as to why the special "owners refrigerator" is visible, within reach of customers, can be opened by customers, but is alas, unavailable for purchase. Perhaps a mini fridge for the actual office is too inconvenient or overpriced. Instead - We were told to get a Pinot grio that was exceptionally subpar - as was the subsequent rose. We specifically picked this vineyard with the hopes of purchasing a barrel aged Chardonnay. Frankly, I'm not sure if it was unavailable for purchase, or just unavailable to *me* My partner and I are an interracial couple. Many of the patrons met us with hateful stares as we made our way to the entrance, so I suppose that should have been our warning. I regret wasting my money here and will not be back. For a double wide on top of a hill, conspicuously called a "vineyard" - you can better spend your $9/glass elsewhere. read more

I'm debating writing such a great review because I don't want this little peace of heaven to be TOO popular my husband and I can't find seating :) We went here after Raffaldini's for a date. Raffaldini is the more popular vineyard in that area, and was super busy and a bit "stuffy". We headed to Piccione after our two hour limit was up. It was a beautiful Sunday and they had a musician playing live music on the patio. We immediately loved the vibe (more relaxed and casual). They had a bar set up outside with some options, or you could wait in line to go into their store for more selection/bottles to share (limited customers in store/social distancing for COVID). We lucked out and immediately found a table outside looking over the mountains. We enjoyed a delicious Italian style red blend. We didn't feel rushed to finish and sat as long as we wanted. The patio was full but it was still peaceful and quiet. The staff were super friendly and helped my husband select the bottle we shared. Plus you can bring outside food if you'd like. Their service is so much better than that of their next door neighbor and they always allow kids and dogs. I would definitely recommend this place over its neighbor. Also, they had live music and a food truck as well as patio seating where you can see the vineyard below. They also offer a few classes that I will go back to and hope they are as advertised and not like Raffaldini's walking vineyard tour that took you outside and showed "here are what our grapes look like. Great place to visit. Wonderful views. My wife and I love it, but to many places now think allowing people to bring their pets everywhere is the in thing to do. Maybe take into account that many people are extremely allergic to pets and could go into shock in some cases. I have such a friend whom avoids places allowing pets for his own safety as the businesses do not seem to consider it. But they are only people who are paying to enjoy their day. I guess there are not enough of them to bother with the lost customers. read more

Visited for the first time yesterday. Just a gorgeous setting sitting way up high and beautiful scenery with the mountains as the star! Had great live music. Food truck was a nice touch. Just make sure to bring your wallet. Very expensive both winery and food truck. But all in all and great place. The new expansion will be nice. Looking forward to returning. read more
