Dropped into this box on day two of our college visit road trip. Emailed and got a response right away. A good sized gym, lots of space and lots of equipment. Coach Dan and the rather large crew welcomed me right in. The workout was designed for an active recovery day but was still challenging. Started with stretching with the band on shoulders. I always like stretching especially areas that are going to get work, I need all kinds of stretching. The warmup was 3 rounds of your choice, I chose tricep, bicep and ab work. Coach Dan explained each exercise and ways to scale. The workout was untimed but you were encouraged to keep working, I like that we had an alternative to running, one of my many truly avoided activities. Great gym, very relaxed and a very friendly group of early risers. I imagine very family oriented and a whole area devoted to kids. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a box either to visit or call home. Quality training in a top notch facility! read more

I agree 100% with what has been said so far about Midstate!! As a graduate student at UCM, work hours rage from 16-20hrs/day, working out was the last thing on my mind. My daily schedule consisted of school and sleep. Prior to joining Midstate, I went to the gym once a week and did not really know how/what to work out. Not knowing what/how to work out diminished my drive to go to the gym. However, introduced to Midstate via friends, I gave it a shot and I LOVE IT!!! Now I use xfit as my break away from the demands of grad school. My days revolve around the 6:30pm WOD and this is something I look forward too other than sleep. The dynamic of this gym is similar to any sports team, a family. Every workout is dictated by how much you want to put in and your own personal goals. However, every individual's goal during each work out is to finish and if someone falls behind either the coaches or people working out will motivate you to complete the workout and push yourself beyond your mental fatigue. For example, the other day, an individual was struggling to finish their last 15 burpies and the rest of the people working out, even though they completed their workout, did an extra 15 burpies along side that individual until they were done. I recommend this to anyone who wants to try something new and needs direction during their work outs and enjoys working as a TEAM. read more

I gave this gym another shot after seeing some specials and the programming is harder than before, but most of the experienced members are gone. The atmosphere is lackluster and lacks the vibrancy of the Atwater gym. The facility is also very messy and it is very hot and stuffy. The workouts are also very sporadic with some days being very easy and others leaving you wondering if they took it from a pro athlete blog. read more
