This market charged my 91 year old mother $45 for one lb of scallops!!!! Are you kidding me ? They claimed market price and lied to my elderly mother while ripping her off. I just paid $13 for one pound in my Brooklyn neighborhood. That's three times the price at midtown catch. So dishonorable. Will never use them again ! As a follow up Michael After doing more research and giving you the befit of the doubt, Good quality scallops could cost approx $30 a pound. My question is this. Did you charge her $15 for delivery ? Or is the cost of your rent on 57th st dictating how much you mark up your product? $45 ??? Do you really think that's fair ? read more

Wow. I just stumbled on this Gem of a seafood stand and restaurant at the festival. Wow. So fresh and delicious. It tastes like the ocean. Oh my gosh. Midtown Catch is the jewel of our neighborhood. That being said, I would go out of my way to buy all of my fish and seafood from Mike. He is an absolute expert and prides himself on choosing only the finest available at the market every single morning. His selection is limited to the very best quality at a fair price I rely on his expertise to guide what I will be cooking for any meal. Mike takes genuine pride of ownership. His shop is always pristine and he has a wide variety of carefully curated pantry items He prepares all of the cooked dishes fresh every day and will happily accept special orders. Twice I've shopped here, twice pleased! The fresh fish they carry may vary, but everything I've tried has been top quality, very fresh. Priced a bit higher than, say, Whole Foods, but way better fish. What I adore here, though, is the pickled herring in cream sauce. I've had Vita, I've had Acme, those jarred brands are good, but the herring from Midtown Catch is superlative! Have served it to discerning guests twice now, and everyone who likes creamed herring loved it! read more

So glad this place opened across the street - so convenient especially since the quality of seafood at Whole Foods has tanked since Amazon bought the chain. The fish here is all fresh and wild - nothing farmed. The store is immaculate with beautiful fish displays. The staff is wonderful - I bought skate and the cashier was very patient in explaining deboning versus whifish. The swordfish was delicious. I can't wait to try the soups and prepared side dishes. I am so disappointed! I put in my order for christmas eve and it was a mess. I ordered a shrimp cocktail platter with crab cakes, 4 lobsters and 4 salmon fillets. EVERY bite of the crab cakes had shells, no one ate them, the shrimp were rubbery and the platter came with nothing. One guest told me even a few shrimp he ate had little pieces of shells. They told me over the phone AND in person that it would have cocktail sauce and tartar sauce so that was a huge disappointment since I had nothing to serve it with. The lobsters were sweet but we were missing a claw (they were pre-cooked and cut up). The salmon, I was told by guests was good. I arrived early to pick up my order because on the phone they said to. When I arrived it wasn't ready so the man, Mike (who was super nice) said they would deliver it. It came an hour later than promised. Honestly the whole thing ended up being a mess. read more

I've been buying fish from Mike for thirty years after finding him at another neighborhood fish store. When it closed I was so happy that Mike found this location and opened his own store. I trust Mike. I know he only sells the best and most fresh fish. Never had a bad piece of fish from his store. I cook and I can always count on him. First quality! Not like Whole Foods that sells previously frozen fish. If you love fish, the minute you bite into previously frozen fish it's mealy and you know it. That's the difference that Midtown Catch makes in the culinary experience. Yeah you may pay a little more, but look at what you're getting: the BEST! I won't go anywhere else. read more

I was extremely excited about this store since I am a) a pescatarian and I am always looking for fresh fish and b) new to the neighborhood. I ordered Salmon this morning to have it delivered to my apartment. They said it would take an hour. I gave them 2.5 hours and called back. They said it still hadn't gone out but would be sent out shortly. 30 minutes later I was walking out my door and my doorman said I had a delivery and handed me the fish - he said it had been there for a while. Not knowing exactly how long (and being pregnant) I called the store again to see when it had been delivered. Before I could finish my sentence the guy put me on hold then hopped back and said it was on it's way. I corrected him saying it had actually been delivered and I wanted to know how long ago. He clearly didn't know since according to him it was still on its way. I let him know that given I was pregnant, I didn't feel comfortable eating fish that had been sitting in reception for a while in the heat. He automatically said it's because my doorman wouldn't let the delivery man up. Funny how he claimed to know my doorman wouldn't let them up when 5 minutes prior he didn't even know it had been delivered. My doorman specifically asked if they wanted to come up and the delivery man was in a rush and said NO. He asked what I wanted - I said I wanted fresh fish. He refused to send someone out to deliver new fish - he said I could bring it back and pick up new fish. This is ABSURD and terrible customer service. I am appalled that they would deliver fish that is not on ice if they are planning to leave it at a front desk (and not call the customer) and I am even more surprised that they are completely oblivious to the risks of a pregnant woman eating bad fish. You would think they would want to avoid potential liabilities... read more

These guys are awesome and really know their fish. The seafood is always very fresh and they will prep it any way you want. I made the mistake of buying whole branzini from a nearby gourmet grocery store recently, and they took 30 minutes to clean and filet the fish, a job they do much better at Midtown Catch in a couple minutes. I've learned that lesson and now won't buy anywhere else. read more

The service is consistently excellent and the prepared meals are delicious. The owners are former employees of Pisacane so they know most of their former customers.
