Major side note: The menu online specifically lists it was an upload from November 2017 so yes the prices are way higher than what is listed online and the guy should probably update the PDF on there so less people complain about the price point. For instance, the Tuna and Yellowtail Combo used to be $13, then it became $16, and now it's almost $22. It's an 8 year old menu so yep. Honestly, I don't mind the price point as the sushi quality here is much better than the places in the surrounding area. I had said combo which consisted of one tuna maki, one yellowtail maki, and 3 pieces each of tuna and yellowtail. The fish quality was excellent though I do wish the rice quality was up to snuff as this is probably one of the few things that is lacking here compared to many of the other better sushi places which the price points here imitate. It clumps a bit too easily and could be flavored better but hey it's really more of a fresh fish place rather than a sushi and sashimi place and you get what you get especially for takeout. A sign from a local place currently by me in Cobble Hill called Fish Tales describes this place and it's price point; "fresh fish isn't cheap and cheap fish isn't fresh." I'll go back and try more things as the scallops look particularly outstanding here and I wouldn't mind trying the other offerings as long as they don't involve my unfortunate allergy to all things tentacles. This was an IG find and boy were we glad we went. I have to say it's a mom and pop shop, so even though the hours may say a certain time that they're open, it may not be true. Since it's a one person run place, we naturally assumed it would be a long wait. Long story short, he was about an hour behind from opening - it is what it is, right? I've been dreaming of trying Roy's Fish Market for months, but every time I call, they're backed up in orders and have a two hour wait time. I gave up for a few months and finally was able to plan ahead one day at work. I called saying that I wanted to order for pickup and if it would be ready in 2 hours. The man who picked up was a curt and kept repeating that I had to tell him what I wanted to order. Once I listed my order, he said Okay and the call ended. I walked there two hours later to pick up my order. The man at the counter brought over my order and placed the charge without telling me how much it would be. I tapped my card and asked, how much is it? I must have looked apalled when he told me, since he then asked, what? is there a problem? I had ordered 6 rolls, which according to their website, were $4.50 a roll (https://roysfishmarket.wordpress.com/menu/). I was charged $42 for 6 rolls, and the actual price was $6.99 a roll. Part of the appeal of trying Roy's Fish Market was its affordability factor. This was effectively nullified with their new prices. The worker handed me a printed menu to prove that the prices were correct. I was annoyed but maybe the rolls would be fresh and and delicious and it would be somewhat worth the price. Not the case. I got the yellowtail scallion, spicy tuna, ebi, salmon, tuna, and eel rolls. The eel one had a few stray bones. Flavor wise, it was okay. The ebi, spicy tuna, and salmon did not taste that fresh and had a slighty fishy flavor. The yellowtail scallion was my favorite of the bunch but still not as fresh compared to sushi I've had at other places. I was very disappointed by the poor customer service and the poor quality of the fish given the prices. I don't think the rolls here are that cheap, and I would rather order from a more budget spot like Rakuzen or my neighborhood sushi joint. A lot of the other reviews here say that the fish quality is comparable to upscale sushi restaurants or Japan, but I disagree. read more

The owner is a bit curmudgeonly (he told me today to come back in an hour, not one minute sooner lol and he's essentially kicked me out before during dinner hours when he was slammed with orders--when in doubt, phone in your order early!), but if you "follow the rules" (I came back in an hour), he does defrost. This was probably my third time at this casual fish market (but first time in a while), and it's true the rice isn't the *best* (but I've had similar quality at Sugarfish tbh) and that the rolls aren't perfectly rolled. I heard about this place from a friend and we decided to get a small platter to share and eat at Central Park since it was nearby. We had to place an order the day before we wanted it ready (just for the platters I believe) which ended up being a bit difficult - every time I called the line was busy and the audio was a bit bad for my friend.
