Possibly the least welcoming store I've ever been to. I've been there at least 4-5 times and Every Time I walk in, I feel like I'm bothering the staff by being there. Also I've come in for different items and if I dare ask for assistance I get the coldest reply of "over there", with no hope of any further help in locating what I'm looking for. So I should preface my Yelping about Midtown Comics Grand Central by saying that my latest visit was purely to participate in the annual "Free Comic Book Day" event. For the unschooled in this bit of geeky-awesome, its held on the first Saturday in May and customers can get a pile of specially designated comic books for free it the retailer is participating in it. Some stores give you a hefty stack and others might hand out a single issue of something. The way I've noticed Midtown doing this is they set aside the main and most popular superhero titles and hand them to the interested in a little packet. Now its usually a good idea to purchase something else while you are enjoying a pile of freebies and I generally like to purchase a few issues off the racks. On this particular FCBD I had already visited the downtown Manhattan location and grabbed the milestone #150th issue of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". So back to Midtown GC. Like its companion stores the layout is pretty much the same. You have long racks of the newest and some recent titles and the pricier items are up high and require help from staff. The staff here knows their stuff and will help you find something if you are looking for it which is always nice. In the past I've found myself getting a recommendation as well based on what I had in the purchases. In addition to comics you can find all sorts of action figures, buttons, patches, shirts and comic collecting supplies like boxes, bags and boards. I don't generally get to the GC location and am more prone to visit their Downtown space but if this is the closest location for you there will be a lot of magic for you to discover. They have a nice number of new issues of the popular titles but I will recommend if you collect that you get a pull list started so you don't miss anything that might be more popular than something else. All this being said its fairly safe to say that if you enjoy this particular hobby you will enjoy your visit to Midtown Comics Grand Central and most likely their other locations as well. read more

A decent selection of comics and related products (I.e. t-shirts, Funko pops, statues, etc.). They even have 'discounted' stuff, some items as cheap as one dollar. We have some great comic stores in LA, but I still always make a point of visiting this Midtown whenever I'm in NYC. The staff is always incredibly friendly and helpful - always with a story or two to share. Selection is very wide despite the relatively small size. I love the Midtown Comics Grand Central location. I have been going there religiously every week for over 12 years now. The store is extremely well run. Clean and organized. All of the merchandise is always easy to find. The staff there are super friendly and helpful. They always greet me by name with a smile on their faces. I get handshakes and fist bumps from my people too! The staff is top notch. Shoutouts to Battle, Big Man Sam, Izzy and Ricky for always helping me to get those pricey ratio variants $$$ that I crave and love adding to my personal collection. Midtown Comics has been here easily for over fifteen years or more...steps from Grand Central, it's a mecca of Comics and Manga classics. Stocked with collections of hard to find special edition comics to super fun vinyl POP figures. Dozens of action figures from Marvel to Megazord, Dragon Ball to Adventure Time plushies, everything Star Wars, Doctor Who and even my personal favorites, Archie comics and Snoopy!! There's definitely something here for everyone ages 3+. Don't forget Garfield, Calvin and Hobbes, and anything Disney. I was in the hood and swung by during my lunch break to hunt for some Manga and My Hero Academia stuff for my son. Found a few choice items for hubby as well. I'll surprise him for Father's Day. Prices were comparable to Amazon and the Comic Cons or Anime Conventions so I had no issues with that. Plus, I get instant gratification and can buy on the spot! No need to wait for shipping. The store does provide that service by the way if you want to order something that's not in stock. They are happy to do so. It's been ages since I frequented a comic store so it was cool just walking around and looking at stuff. If you love comics this is the top of the line best comic store. Lots of genres to choose from. I posted some photos of my old favorites. Employees are so friendly. I think they must have PH.D. In Comics. They take their time telling the customers anything and everything they want (or need) to know. The store is upstairs. You will find the street door open. After entering the hallway go straight back to the elevator. The store is on the second floor. They have so much more merchandise then just the actual comic books. You can get anything and everything related to the characters. I tried not to look to hard. I can't afford the temptation right now. I'm sure I could find a special gift here when I need one. Let your inner Geek shine through at this impressive comic book store. I was here recently to take a look around and buy a gift for someone. Also, my inner geek wanted to check this place out as I have some old comics stored away and wanted to see if they are worth anything. This place is a Geek-fest delight. Rows and rows of comic books well organized and labeled. Shelves full of graphic novels. As I am a big Walking Dead fan I had to see what they had here and ended up flipping through many of the books they offer. There is a terrific selection of collectible action figures, toys, lunch boxes, comic and fantasy figurines and statues, and other fantasy art available. Posters and a small clothing section too with shirts and hats. They even carry many of the older classic comics and magazines for sale some of which are decades old. You can also find all kinds of protective coverings for comic books and trading cards. I can picture the gang from The Big Bang Theory hanging out in this place! It's located on the second floor up a poster laden narrow stairway. The store itself is actually very bright, clean, and well laid out. Really nice helpful staff here that answered all my questions. Almost right across the street from Grand Central Station so it's easy to get to. When I was here they even had a 25% discount on certain figurines, a discounted book section, and also have weekly sales across all three of their locations. Midtown comics is located on the second floor. You have to take a elevator to get there. I have to say at first I couldn't believe how big this store was. Then I realized I looked really out of place. The only thing I knew was batman and superman. This place seemed to have everything. They have comics clothing statues posters you name it. Midtown comics has it. The staff was soooo nice. All 3 of them talked to me while my friend shopped. I can't say enough about the staff here. Every time someone walked in. One of the staff world ask them if they needed help. As unique of a place as midtown comics is the staff was fun. Like I said. If you like comics. Midtown comics is the place for you. I seriously loved comics as a kid but I guess when I hit like 13 or so I discovered girls and my interests went over there. I collected all those specialty spiderman comics back in the day (Hologram cover, hollow foil, super limited edition 3rd prints, scratch and sniff covers). I was also a huge X-Men fan and X-Force when Cable would really run shit over there (even when he was with New Mutants). The Punisher comics were also very entertaining to me. I have not however bought any comics in a while. I did come here a few times in the past 3 months to browse. While it is a chain and I'm usually only in a comic book store to get my husband's books or find him a gift, this is one of those stores that anyone can feel welcome in without being overwhelmed by geekiness in the form of hard core gamers engrossed in an RPG or card game and unrepentantly blocking access to the back issues. In other words, you'll find more mainstream "normal" people shopping here alongside any geek stereotypes. The sales people here are friendly, informative and don't give off a snotty vibe if you're the wife/girlfriend/significant other of a comic book reader. Unlike some stores, this place practices customer service to ALL who come in instead of just the person who reads the comics. They also do not assign the price you pay based on the price guide listing for that month or try to trick you if you aren't savvy in the world of comics (both of which have happened in our experiences with various comic book stores). These people know me and my husband by sight & likely by name. Only rarely has there been a missing book in my husband's holds & if you ask, they will let you check the hold to make sure all your books are accounted for. I've even had them go get missing books my husband forgot to include in his weekly purchase without having to leave the line myself or asking! Because I'm not a comic book reader, I can't vouch on the important things like back issue selection and the like that I think should be considered in a rating. The price can also be a little high on some items (DVDs in particular) but overall, this particular location should definitely be in the top 5 of "Best Comic Book Stores in NYC." This location is far less crowded than the one near Times Square & the staff are extremely efficient at making sure you get to buy something in this lifetime if the line is long. If I were a comic book collector, I would also pick this store to get my weekly books. read more

I used to purchase my comics locally. My collection is over 36,000 comics mostly Marvel. Before moving to Virginia I switched to Midtown. i have had no complaints. The service is OK and the price was great. I always used the Preview section. I buy every A cover marvel comic that comes out every month. That's a $250 or $285 monthly spend. Then came the pandemic. I noticed in March or April that preview section changed. The discount went from 35% to 12%. You could not add to cart only 'wish' for the comic. i decided to call and see what was going on before trying to place the order. of course no one was answering because the stores were close - which was very reasonable. switched to e-mail. The messages I got back were fixed robotic replies. I replied with questions that would guide me in making my order. I was well aware that no comics were going to ship for a while. I never got a cohesive answer by e-mail. I missed the cutoff to order. I then made a decision that I was going to STOP buying new comics. Period. Thanks to Midtown's terrible handling of my reasonable questions and the inability to get a live voice. It got a little worse. When the backlog started tp ship I saw that I was getting and was being charged for two of almost every comic. I only ordered once. I have no record of a second order. I called and spoke to a live body who said there was nothing they could, was totally cold and now I was sure that I was done with comics. Its a great store but the people there have no heart and no concept of customer service - even taking into consideration my spend with them. read more

Biggest and best comic store in Manhattan. Huge selection of pops, action figures, posters and comics. So convenient if you take the train from grand central. I no longer take the train anymore but I will go out of my way to stay loyal to midtown because for every 100 dollars you spend you get 20 dollars of comics for free. I've gotten over 60 bucks worth of comics for free at this point. You can also order in advance on the app for pickup or to have them shipped. Great staff recommendations too on new exclusives and good series for people new to certain characters. It's always crazy packed on Wednesday's but that's because it's new comic book day and everyone knows midtown is the place to go. Can't wait to be back!!!! read more

I'm a frequent visitor to the Midtown Comics on the West Side near Port Authority Bus Terminal. The irony is that this location is closer to my job, but I don't get to go to it very often. Over the course of the past three years I have stopped in now and then and I am happy to see time and time again this place has not only maintained but improved its quality. Located on the second floor of the building off Lexington Avenue (right across the street from Grand Central), this store is not as gigantic as its West Side sibling but has much of the same items including current comics, magazines, toys, statues and lots of back issues. The main area is wide open, that's where most of the comics are located. Small shelves form islands with toys on them. Glass display cases feature statues that are regularly rotated as new ones come in. Towards the back is the toy section where they pack a lot into a small space. Their toy stock is rotated out often, keeping it fresh. The staff is helpful and friendly and the shop is very organized and clean. I really enjoy visiting this shop for comic books and other geeky items! read more

I've been a customer for the past 2 years. In the past 6 months. Ive had 3 major shenanigans going on with them. The first time. I got angry and moved on. Said it was a one time thing. oh. I asked to reserve some comics. The second time. Same thing happened. They said " oh, we ran out of what we reserved for you". This past week. on Wed. called them to hold a copy. They put me on hold, came back and told me they will hold it till next Wed. for me. Two days later. Have some time. I called them, just to make sure. They told me. They don't have it. I told them, but I called and they said they were holding a copy for me. It was TWD #193. They just made excuses. didn't do anything and sort of told me in no short terms it happens. And if I spoke to someone . I should have asked for their name If you are going to call. Make sure you get a name, and a confirmation number. They just are to casual about their business practices. They think they are to big to suffer any consequences. GET A NAME AND A CONFIRMATION NUMBER or it won't be, and you will get a shoulder shrug read more

Came here after a short walk away from Grand Central Terminal with friends who were more familiar with the merch here. One of my friends actually found something that she liked and bought -- a One Piece boat model (20th edition) -- since it was priced appropriately upon checking it on amazon and there was even a 20% discount on merch that day as well. We spent almost an hour here looking around. There were funko pops, comics, action figures, manga and other merch. My friend said the prices were reasonable and honest, especially compared to the one at Elizabeth Center in Chinatown. read more
