Midtown Comics is a really nice comic shop. They have a large range of current and recent issues, encompassing an entire wall on the downstairs floor of their space. The rest of the downstairs floor contains bookcases with graphic novels and some novels and reference and art books. The upstairs has bins with back issues (bagged and boarded), collectible figures and toys and some t-shirts. The amount of back issues is relatively limited, but given the sheer volume of new additions monthly, they'd just run out of space in no time at all. I believe other back issues are available from their warehouse through their website. I like Midtown Comics a lot. It's well laid out, organized and clean. It makes a nice change to some shops I've visited over the years that are dusty, dirty and stacked with teetering boxes. The staff is helpful and friendly. If you like comics, and are in NYC, it's really a must. read more

ONLINE ORDERING - the customer service is terrible! Placed online order and they shipped me DAMAGED books. It was not damaged during the shipping itself, as the packaging was in great shape. The damage clearly occurred either before the books were selected as the ones being shipped to me, or while they were stuffing them into the box (I believe the latter). Contacting them to complain about the damaged product they sold me ended up being a big hassle - they do not make returns/refunds an easy process at all; it's really awful customer service. If the service agent bothered to look up my account they would see I am a frequent customer who has given then a lot of business in the past, but they didn't even acknowledge that. Not even a sincere apology. Not even an offer to compensate for the inconvenience, or to even guarantee my return business. For an industry that is struggling, like comic books, you'd figure common sense dictates that the few retailers left in business would bend over backwards for their regular customers who not only have subscriptions through them but also place individual orders all the time! They do not, at all. They shrug you off and coldly give you instructions on how to proceed with a return that will clearly take weeks to resolve with zero offers of compensation for what is clearly their egregious error. For their sake I really hope they get their act together and start treating online customers with a lot more respect and gratitude for their business. Until then, I think I will take my money elsewhere, they are not the only online comic book retailer. read more

Whenever my husband and I are in NY, we always stop at Midtown Comics. You have to make a trek up a flight of stairs, but it's absolutely worth it. The store has two levels: DVDs, books, magazines, and comics mostly occupy the first level. On the second floor, they have more figures, toys, additional comics, and an adult section. We actually stopped into Midtown during Fleet Week this past May, just one week after our wedding. To our surprise, Jon Stewart was at Midtown Comics with his son buying toys. First let me just say I don't you are ever too old to be a fan of comic books. I've been reading them since I was 6 and my love is still there for them. Although when I first started reading them, they cost 35 cents and not the rather pricey $3 each they are today. But what's a fan to do? Now comic books are like soda brands. Let me explain. With soda, most people are either a Coca Cola fan or a Pepsi person. With comic books, one is either a DC fan or a Marvel fan. I'm a DC man myself. Batman,Superman,Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, the Justice League of America. All those superheroes are my favorites. I'm not a Marvel hater, I just never had the means to read books from both universes. I simply started with DC as a kid and stayed there. I've read some Marvel over the years, but my heart was always with DC. I think Spiderman,Captain America,the Fantastic Four et all are pretty awesome in their own right. And let's be honest, Marvel has kicked DC's ass when it comes to using their characters in films. I can't wait to see Iron Man 2 and what they do for Thor,Captain America, and The Avengers. Should be awesome! DC Comics has a less than stellar movie approach, with some hits (Batman Begins,Dark Knight) and some misses (Superman Returns). I pray to God they don't screw up Green Lantern next year. And where are our long awaited movies for the Flash, Wonder Woman, and the JLA? These characters have been around for decades, people want to see them on the silver screen! But I digress, let's return to talking about comic books. More specifically where you can buy them. Here in NYC, one of the most awesome places to buy a comic book is Midtown Comics. There main store is right next to bustling Times Square and is a two story den of geekdom heaven! Anyone who loves comic books,science fiction,fantasy, and collectibles related to those genres, will love this place. I am sure of it. You'll know you are they by the gigantic murals on the outside of the building depicting many of the great superheroes I mentioned earlier. Inside, once you get up that somewhat grueling stairway, you will find a treasure trove of geeky goodness. One floor has comic books,graphic novels, and magazines. The second level has toys,games,and statues. It's really awesome on both floors. It's always crowded, no matter when you drop by for a visit. Did you realize there were so many other comic book nerds around? The store is clean, the staff is cheerful and friendly. There are back issues galore. It's a great place to drop by. You will surely find something cool there. I won't slam other comic book stores for being different. I think anyone who sells comics to the public is awesome. To each their own. I like Forbidden Planet and Jim Hanley's Universe. They have great stores too. But for location,layout,and inventory, Midtown Comics owns the city, in my opinion. Comic book stores take notice. I buy comics on line but try hard to spend $$ in comic book stores to support the industry. This place tries to find ways to help me spend my $$. Shirts (total no brainer. Why can't every store do shirts), jackets, trades, classic collectables and lots more. The staff is classic nerd - friendly helpful and filled with extra opinions. I have dreamed about coming to this store for years and I finally got to make that dream a reality last week. Not only is this location huge, it's two floors, but the selection I found to be pretty darned good. Now, let me say that I have been to comic shops that I feel have better selections, but this store is still very good. The selection of new comics is like that of any other comic shops with the addition of variants that Marvel and other companies ship to Midtown because of the volume of comics in which they deal. So if you are looking for a variant, this place can be pretty great. The issue for me was that I wasn't going to buy a new comic I can get at home and risk transporting the thing and damaging it since they don't come bagged and boarded. I did look through the back-issue selection and found one gem that I had to have: New X-Men #129 that was in great condition for only $3.50. That is about a $10 book, so I jumped at the chance to get it, as I cannot find that book anywhere here at home in JAX. The staff were so helpful. My wife and I were greeted and asked if we needed any help at least three times from separate employees and I loved that. The selection of comics was extensive, but they just didn't happen to have a ton of the books I was looking for, but that's not to say I'm knocking them for it (I'm not). As far as other products, they are stuffed to the gills with apparel, collectables and toys. I found this location to be better stocked and with better wall books than the Grand Central Station location too. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. And their selection is vast. I have often found comics produced by independent comic companies with plenty of issues to purchase. I finally made it to the actual location! And it was okay. Not bad at all, but I guess I was expecting something different since it's near Times Square, more over the top perhaps? It's a bit cramped and filled with tourists (which is of course not their fault...and I guess I was one as well). It got difficult to look around. Best part of the trip was I was telling my wife while perusing some Doctor Who goods that I've been dying to have a TARDIS metal lunchbox. I'll be damned if I didn't turn around and find one. That's a sign if I ever saw one. Took my comics and TARDIS to the registers to check out. Got a discount (not sure why, but in my head it's the "Cute Nerd Girl Discount!"). And when off on my way. I signed up for 12 issue subscriptions for Batman and Justice League, it took 3 months for my 1st issue to arrive and I haven't received another one since, that was 4 months ago. Comic book, graphic novel, and manga fans, rejoice! The comic haven had two floors of goodies and merch waiting for you to discover. When Lapin and I visited on a Monday afternoon after work, it was quite packed. The staff was nice in assisting with any questions and the store is clean and very organized. The store can be a bit expensive and have random one of items. Lapin found a dented Deadpool wall clock in a corner (Yes, literally in a corner shelf!) that he wanted but it was for $65. I've been a regular customer at Midtown Comics since it first opened. I've had the pleasure of seeing a nice comic book store with fantastic staff become the go to place for all things comic book related. Not only comic books, but graphic novels, attire, toys, statues, basically anything that a comics geek would love. If you can't find it at Midtown Comics, either in their stores or online, you would be hard pressed to find it anywhere. Wednesdays are like Christmas Day! Run! Don't walk to Midtown Comics! Full disclosure: I've never visited the actual store -- only bought comics online. That being said, I was QUITE impressed with the experience. As a collector, I was nervous about what the product condition would be like when it arrived especially since it was traveling across the country. Thankfully, my fears were unfounded. I'm actually *very* impressed with Midtown Comics' packaging. Non-acidic covers, comics are inverse facing, back-boarded, bubble wrapped AND in a box. This is the go-to spot in NY, so older issues tend to get snatched up by dedicated fans, but the MC team will gladly order anything for you. I have never been to an American comic book shop before. It was quite a sight to behold...much more grand on scale than any comic shop in the UK. This truly is the mecca of comic book stores, carrying a plethora of back issues, you could easily spend $200 and not even blink. We've never been to NYC but my wife spotted this place from the hop on / hop off bus, so naturally, we had to go. Much better than any shop we've been to in Houston! Such a wide variety of comics, figurines and models. The best thing is, they found the very last issue of a comic that is out of print at the moment, aside from all the of the other books she couldn't find in Houston. As a frequent Midtown Comics visitor, I like this location the best. It seems to be the most spacious, and up to date with their merchandise. A few people mentioned that it is a little on the pricey side - I'd agree and disagree. It's right in line with what everyone else is charging for the same merchandise, and they offer frequent promotions if you follow them on social media. Best comic store in Manhattan! There are two levels. It has a huge collection of new and old comics, figures, clothes, DVDs, mangas, books, posters, magazines, etc. I could spend hours walking around in here and just reading the comics. I like how they stock the new comics every week. It's so easy to find what you are looking for. New comics on top (eye level) and older comics on the bottom. If you can't find something, the friendly staff is there to help. Well most of them are friendly. They are very knowledgeable as well. I always hear debates going on about how one superhero is better than another or just random facts about events occurring in certain comics. I feel so at home! HAHA! Everyone tends to come in to look at the figures in the cases on the second level. These expensive figures are works of ART! If you have the money to purchase one of them, I say "YOU ARE SO LUCKY!" Yes, I am jealous of people who can afford them. Everyone can find a figure of a hero or villain they can fall in love with. They hold signings every so often at the store. Bring your stuff to get signed by your favorite artist or writer. I waited one time for Olivia Munn to sign my magazines and her book which had come out. The wait was long as they typically are. The store was very organized and they kept things orderly. No one can cut in line. Everyone was able to get a picture and signatures. If you live in New York and frequent the comic stores, I say come here and join the rewards type program that they offer. For every $100 you spend, you get $20 discount off your purchase which is redeemed once you hit that $100 mark. I often find myself getting that discount quite often. Guess I know where all my money goes. This is one of my favorite Midtown Comics locations as it is most convenient for me. They have two other stores. Midtown Comics - Spidey 2nd flr - Comic Books Near Me - New York, New York

Ordered 4 different issues for the next year way back in october online. Since ive received a total of 6 issues, all about 3 issues apart- i.e. issue #1 and then 8. Issue # 32 and then 41. Ive called numerous times to correct the issue way back in Dec. Was told it was fixed then, called again in Feb to fix the same issue. Now, ill have to call again to see why im still having issues since the begining of this month! Even before the virus dealing with this company has been the absolute worst. Both professionally and in organization. They just took my money and proceeded to tell me my online orders would take 2 months to process and then didnt even get it right. All the while pushing to "order now" for the 1st issue, and cant even get it to you. Pathetic. read more

Somewhat cool set-up, as they have new comic releases, bootleg DVD's and a large selection of bound books on their first floor-- everything from "Marvel Essentials" and trade paperbacks to junk like manga and Twilight. They have a few Silver Age and older books tacked up on the walls, but nothing too amazing (well, to ME at least. Consider that I have 30+ years of collecting under my belt). Of course, there's a bargain bin...so if you need your fix of "Archer & Armstrong" or "Brigade", hit that up. The DVD selections intrigue me. They have official store-bought releases, but also have a good selection of strange stuff that you typically only find at conventions... like the 1970's Doctor Strange TV movie, or the 1960's Marvel Super Heroes shows. I didn't look too extensively, but I wouldn't be surprised if they've offered the Star Wars Holiday Special in the past! Sure, these DVD's may be of a lower quality, but until those shows get official releases, this is a good place to find 'em. Upstairs has the majority of their back issues, which disappointed me somewhat. The bulk of their Marvel and DC titles did not extend before 1991 or so. Also, they filed "Amazing Spider-Man" under "S" and not "A". Grrrr...amateurs! From their national advertising campaigns, I gather that they do the majority of their back issues via an online marketplace. When I want some old stuff, 99% of the time I look online. So I can't really fault them for having an underwhelming inventory in their brick n' mortar store. But they seem to understand how to present their stuff. The first floor (where most of their customers seem to shop) is set up more like a bookstore than the typical comic shop. Sure, they have posters and life size superhero mannequins, but it's a step up from the "nerd ghetto" look n' feel of most comic shops. read more

What can I say? It's a Times Square Institution and with good reason. They're comic selection is fantastic, plus they have shirts, toys, and lots and lots of collectibles. The staff was friendly and helpful, even recommending how I could get an issue of Tomb Raider #4 that they did not have. Everything is well organized, and easy to find, with lots of manga and graphic novels. I coveted the leather-bound SandMan collection, but it was out of my price range. But how cool is it that they even carry that sort of thing? I rarely see that outside of Amazon. Even if you only sort-of like comics, you should definitely go. This comic book store is great in that it has all of the mainstream comics and graphic novels that are surprisingly hard to find in brooklyn comic book stores. They also have decent apparel and the staff is pretty friendly. When I used to work in the area, I would come here often after work and it would be packed, businessmen and women trying to get something for the commute home etc. This isn't my favorite comic book store in nyc, it's just the largest and most commercial, so if it's mainstream, they probably have it, especially back issues.
