My first time going (I was recommended by a friend) and both Alfonso & Ella ate down. I thoroughly enjoyed my service from the moment I walked in to the salon. Nancy greeted me & seated me and she was a sweetheart. I'm very picky about how I like my nails and my pedicures and Alfonso & Ella definitely satisfied my needs. Horrible. I went and request polish change on my toes, cut down and fill in on my nails. Everything was great while being seated., but the lady at the front desk insisted that I get a pedicure and told me that my polish would be ugly on my feet if I didn't get the pedicure because of my cuticles, but I denied and I continue with polish change which my toes are wonderful, but my hands are horrible. The polish instantly started bubbling up once I left the shop within 2 to 3 hours and then I seen my polish coming off of my nails instantly and I chose gel polish which no polish Should do that at all. I felt rushed and I felt the lady at the desk was very pushy on what I should get. Not to mention I didn't even know they had refreshments because I wasn't even offered any. read more

It is Wednesday morning and I came Monday afternoon to get a pampering for my toes. I paid for the most expensive pedicure service, while also paying extra for gel which most salons charge for. The massage was mediocre at best and they were a bit rough and quick with my feet but when i walked out Monday afternoon my toes looked nice so i thought. Tuesday night after getting off work, 5 out of the 10 toes were smudged and chipped off. I arrived Wednesday morning and let them know the situation in which after 5 mins of questioning they realized they had not dried them throughly, they had a lady come retouch them. She also was rough AF as if it was my fault that the paint didn't dry on GEL!!! She also rechanged the shape of my nails and the paint didn't look even across my toes honestly but i didn't have time to keep going over it. I definitely will not be returning, especially for a first time experience!!!! Please beware and pay attention to the reviews they weren't lying !!!!! read more

You really gotta find your tech here. I've gone through a few but have found my girl. Everybody has been decent but my girl is the truth. My nails eat. My eyebrows are always good too. Never a long wait. Prices fluctuate a little bit i think that happening everywhere. They bet not do too much tho or im gone lol the vibe is cool. They always playing afrobeats and r&b, idk how to feel about that but whatever. Lol read more

Stopped in for a quick eyebrow and upper lip wax. I've been twice in the past and received the level of service expected. However this time around was much different. The shop wasn't very clean nor tidy - There was a lady in the waxing room eating with her shoes off. I should have left at this point but gave them the benefit of the doubt due to pricing. Eyebrow wax turned out decent; shape was okay and they were a bit skinny but nothing a week or so of growth wouldn't fix. Upper lip wax was standard. However, within 24 hours of my wax, my brow and upper lip areas were extremely inflamed and had tons of tiny pimples. Fast forward today (5 days later) & I'm still struggling with break outs in these areas. I have somewhat sensitive skin but I've been getting waxed for over a decade and have never had a reaction like this. The customer service was okay but I would stay away. There are by far much better places with a higher level of service quality within a 10 minute drive. read more

Came here for an after work event. I got the basic mani- $18, and basic Pedi $30. I was seated right away, that's a check. But the colors I picked, the nail tech said was too thin to use when she tried, then the other color I picked, the nail polish brush was completely unusable, yikes thats a minus. So she ended up picking out my color. It was an ok choice. At one point there was 3 ladies working on me all at once. Unsure why that was happening, or what the error was. But I did get a brief leg massage. read more

I started coming here to get my eyebrows done. The first month, it was fine. Then, I went and got my eyebrows done and a pedicure at the same time so instead of doing them in the room, she did them in the massage chair. Why did I have pimples on my eyebrow line the next day? When the younger lady does them, they're fine but an older lady did them last time and now I'm upset. I rarely get break outs on my face! It was fun and the people are cool but pimples...nah. I'll only get my eyebrows done when the other girl is there from now on. read more

I came here for YEARS! but the last two timers were horrible. When I ask for regular polish don't question me or push me for gel just because it's better for you. Lady was upset I asked for regular polish. Don't understand what the issue is. I paid $100. They never offered me water, wine, or a soda after I declined gel multiple times. I did notice them offering to other people. The foot massage was mediocre. Full set was okay! In general this place is not good if you want a relaxed experience. They speak in Vietnamese so loud it sounds like a street market. The vibe doesn't go with me. This was the last time for me taking my money somewhere else read more

No ambience, they don't even offer water. Went in for a quick overlay, staff gave me acrylic and gel polish and tried to convince me that she did gel shallack that was worth $70. Mind you they didn't have to add tips. I've been to more upscale places and had no problem paying but $70 for extremely short nails is ridiculous. This is my new go to nail salon! I went with a friend for the first time yesterday and it was incredible. Easy appointment booking online and then they even call you a little before your appointment to confirm! Also, talk about EFFICIENT! I got a pedicure, manicure AND eyebrow/lip wax at the exact same time without having to move from my chair. Ample parking, competitive pricing and super convenient location. I got the specialty mani/pedi. It's barely more expensive than the normal ones and you get so much more! Parafin dip, hot stones, exfoliating scrub! read more

Ladies, I would NOT recommend this place, the good reviews are only for a discount. I'm only giving this place two stars because the pedicure was fine, however the shaping is the worst I've ever experienced. It's uneven and crooked and upsets me. There's not even a nail drying station. The price is NOT worth returning for either, I was charged $55 for a basic pedicure, dip soak off and polish. Polish itself was $10. read more

I was in the area and randomly stumbled across this place. It's really quaint but it wasn't busy. I went on a Wednesday at around 530. The nail tech was very attentive, she had me in and out. Their standard pedicure includes hot stones which I typically don't find at most places. They're really affordable too. And the best part they have non toxic vegan basil polish options. They were playing all my jams!! Will be back. read more

I came around closing (which was my mistake the open sign was on) so I got a very quick manicure. She didn't wait on any layers to dry it was less than a 10 minute job. Although I can't even focus on that because there was a woman (obviously homeless and or on drugs) who needed to come in and use the bathroom at the same time I walked in. The lady said that she needs to be getting a service in order to use the restroom (which is understandable) they proceeded to convince her (she was clearly unable to speak or comprehend the situation) to get a manicure. However they said she had to pay first before. I thought this was a store policy however that rule was not applied to me and I realized how badly they were treating this woman. This woman couldn't speak let alone understand that she was paying for this manicure. After i finished to go pay I asked the woman to let me cover her nails (in hopes they would refund her) she proceeded to say that it could not be done and I left. I was absolutely sick and furious by the obvious racism towards that woman. I will add that she was not causing a problem nor any disruptions. To take advantage of this woman and the state she was in was disgusting to watch. If she really could not use their restroom they simply could have told her no. The low prices will not justify me ever going back to this establishment. read more

Sandy did my manicure + shellac. She was patient, attentive to detail, and over has great customer service skills. Unfortunately, the young lady who did my pedicure was the exact opposite. She rushed my manicure and over-made me extremely uncomfortable. My toenails are shaped crooked and she waited until she polished my entire foot to ask if I like the color. She lacks customer service skills and honestly, it's an art that has been lost in the business of making money. Thanks, Sandy for standing out and showing a comforting experience. I would probably only return for you. read more

if i give this nail shop a 0 i would the person working on my nails did horrible the nails were slanted and not placed on the nail correctly she didn't even cut my cuticles before. After asking multiple times to fix it she caught an attitude and was very aggressive and rough my skin started bleeding from her drilling it. i then ask for someone else she came back to look at them while I explained again why they were not to my liking or even not a service i would pay for and she proceeds to put her hands on me literally popped my arm. I was told the manager wasn't on clock till 5pm read more

Fantastic place for nails as you can see! I cannot say enough positive things about Nancy in regards to her positive attitude, fulfilling all my design requests, and making sure every nail was beautiful!. My only complaints would be that she filed my nails too thin so I had to recover for 6 months. And...the lashes....just never again but other than that, this place earns the 5 stars! read more

Disgusting behavior by employees. Person checking me in was visibly upset that I did not want to receive a manicure on top of my pedicure appointment. I was in an accident several months ago so my feet have not been done for awhile as I had on a boot and I explained as I knew it wouldn't be easily but two employees decided to quite literally point at my toes, made jokes and I had to ask them to stop. Will not be patronizing this place for such treatment. Nails were also cut VERY unevenly despite them having grown out for about 5 months so they were long enough to be styled appropriately and evenly. Some are curved, some are square shaped, white polish on my skin, smh UPDATE: The bottom of one of my toes was cut. SMH. read more

The techs are almost always in a smiling happy mood, and each one tries their best to give their guests what they want. I especially like Vicky for simple dip nails, but all the ladies are great. My regular pedicurist was on vacation l, but Cindy does my nails and as usual she did a great job! Sometimes people who salon hop come and they don't get regular pedicures and or nails so they have complaints. First of all we don't receive discounts. Further more this business prefers Google; a lot of business say Yelpers are serious! I say as we should be; we give a fair assessment of our experiences on every business. I said that to say this business forgot they have Yelp! Don't worry I reminded them...they will remember our name going forward! People make mistakes and services are sometimes not to our standards, but address the issue and give the business an attempt to rectify the issue. If they don't then give them a low rating, but at least give 'em a chance! The ladies did a great job and I too have experienced a bad polish it a broken nail. Bad polish before they finished; I addressed it and someone else took over. The broken nail, a call was given and I came in and it was fixed. Update: They completely redid my gel manicure today and were very pleasant. Let's hope this one lasts! Update: I contacted the salon and they offer a repair within 7 days so I will update my review after my appointment tomorrow at 12! I wish I could give a better review because the ladies were very nice but... my gel/ shellac manicure just isn't holding up. I had them done last Friday at 6:30 pm and by Tuesday they were curling at the sides. I think based on what I paid, they should have lasted longer. Disappointing... . read more

I never write reviews but I am so unhappy that I had to! I am only giving one star for the receptionist at the front who was the only professional person at the shop. I went to do my nails. The tech who was doing them wasn't qualified and everyone agreed it needed to be redone. Multiple people were unhappy with their services and where that's giving refunds because of that. When it was my turn to pay I paid despite my nails looking terrible and they overcharged me and had no regret and making me wait 2 hours for a basic refill and basic pedicure. 30$ for the pedicure and 30$ for the refill and they charged me 80$! keep in mind they put no top coat or even cleaned my nails after filing! Terrible time today and as a Muslim I was fasting (Ramadan) and was kept at the store until the time to break my fast because the techs were fixing their mistakes! They had no consideration for me and their service they just wanted to make sure they were getting paid and it was the worst experience ive had! Never again! read more

Beautiful place and the team here is really sweet. I loved my pedicure and my feet look beautiful. I ended up getting a full set, solar nails with shellac polish. To be, I am not pleased with the end product. My nails ended up being thick and almost bubbly looking. The sweet lady at the front saw my disappointment and offered to help and make it right. I declined her aide. I just left and cried in my car, im not the kind to cause a scene. Only giving three stars due to this outcome. And this was my first time visiting and getting shellac but I would return for their pedicure services. My journey continues for a nail tech to call my own. ***UPDATE 1/10/2018***** I decided to return to Midtown Nail because I needed a fill and was suggested that Nancy should do my nails. Honestly, I was a bit hesitant since I didn't like the results from my previous visit. But I believe in giving second chances. Nancy sat me down and she began to work her magic. I could tell immediately that she knows what to do. Once the dust settled, my nails looked amazing! This was pre-polish. Im am very pleased with results this time. The staff were amiable, efficient and accommodating. A male tech did my pedicure and a lady did my gel manicure. I was surprised at how fast they worked, my pedi/polish looks awesome! The manicure was done well however the gel polish was not good at all, it was not applied evenly..I'd say a sloppy job or the tech needs more experience. Overall for the cost of services I'm pleased, if I were to ever return I would pay more attention to the detail to ensure I receive my desired results. read more

I am happy with the quick service however just not happy with how I was constantly asked if I wanted another service. I walked in to get a nail fixed and the women asked me more than once if I want a pedicure after I said no. I don't think it's appropriate to keep asking someone multiple times from multiple people if they want another service other than what they requested. Please respect that I am just getting only what I need and want done. I might try this place again but no time too soon, there are plenty of nail shops out here in good ol' Houston. read more

This was my first time visiting this establishment. I went in for an eyebrow waxing. My brows looked the same way after the wax as they did when I arrived. I told the lady that they looked the same when she finished. She "plucked" them to appease me and they looked the exact same lol. Please don't waste your money. read more

I got a dip mani and shellac pedicure here . I would say okay at nails here, they up charge for everything . For a dip mani it's 5 dollars extra just to get cuticles cut, which I have never seen . Dip looks okay , there are uneven areas and couple nails have gaps on side . Pedicure was very subpar even for the "upgraded" one , wouldn't recommend paying for this. I have been to better salons that charge less for much better service . read more

I can't seem to get away from this Midtown shopping strip. When I'm not at Coaches slamming beers, at Darque Tan morphing myself into a leather handbag or at Gotham Pizza working my way up to a size XXXL, then I'm here at Midtown Retreat soaking my toes in a eucalyptus foot bath while sipping on a nice glass of red. Believe it or not, Houston, you can get a mani-pedi INSIDE the loop for under $50. And it all starts at Midtown Retreat. The owner and his girlfriend are incredibly sweet and appreciative of your business, so they cater to your every need. From the outside, the salon/spa seems small, but it's actually rather spacious, holding areas for hair, nails and back rooms for facials, waxing and massages. The decor is made up of Eastern influences, a mixture of Chinese and Japanese furniture and wall decor--some directly imported from the said countries. They have a lot of promos going on, so check their website regularly. read more

This place is within 2 minutes from my condo, so it was convenient and the staff was pleasant. I could pop by any time I had some unexpected down time & they were always accommodating. Thus, I've been coming here for that last few months for my semi-routine pedicures. I usually get their signature pedicure that includes the paraffin wax. The service was nothing to write home about, but I had no complaints. Until today. The lady that helped me could not understand English AT ALL, which would have been fine if she just let someone interpret for us. I mean, my parents are immigrants too; I get that language can be a barrier. But no, she nodded & said "ok" when I asked for her to cut down my nails, then said "later" when I asked a second time because she started filing. Filing painfully, I might add - the front of my toe is tender from her going to town on my SKIN. It happens sometimes... moving on. She then starts to clean my nails. Pretty standard... until she stabs me with the pointy tool under my nail. Y'know.. that really painful spot where the nail meets the flesh. I yelp (pun not intended) & THEN someone shows up to interpret. She tells them that she was trying to get rid of an ingrown. Mind you, I do get ingrowns on that toe, but it wasn't at the time. And it definitely wasn't ingrown smack dab in the middle of my toe where she stabbed me. To the lady's credit, she did apologize & changed her technique to handling me like a porcelain egg. Except that does nothing for me when she is very gingerly using the callous remover on my foot, and lightly rubbing my leg during the massage. Now it stings when I put my foot in the water & when she sprays it down with just about anything, so I decide against the paraffin wax. It's supposed to be pampering; why do it if it'll just cause more discomfort? So she goes about finishing the now-basic pedicure. I just let her do her thing, because I'm tired of the interruptions. She starts to get the polish out, but WAIT. She still hasn't cut down my nails that she said she would do "later." This time I flag down another staff member to interpret because I don't trust this lady at all anymore. Im guessing the other staff member might be the manager because she apologizes & offers me a paraffin wax... y'know the service I just said I don't want anymore because it would be more painful than pleasurable. I explain to her it hurt to have my toe in the warm water, so I can't imagine hot paraffin would be better. She said "ok it's up to you." At the end of it all, I did leave a meager tip because I figure people still gotta make a living in this pandemic. But I walked out of there with more than a sour taste in my mouth. The combined lack of concern & poor response has me looking for a new salon, even if it's a further drive. I added 1 star because of the decent past experiences & they're pretty clean. read more

At first glance this place looks awesome. They offer drinks and there was no wait. I chose to do dip powder for the first time, and that was the biggest mistake. (I usually get color powder) My nails came out so uneven. And so bumpy. I asked for the coffin shape, and she cut the artificial nail tip so fast and none of the coffin shapes matched. I feel so bad asking them to fix the nails so I didn't say anything. Plus the lady next to me was walking out without paying and causing a commotion because she hated her nails so much. I didn't want to cause more trouble on the workers so I paid $45 + $10 tip for really bad uneven bumpy nails. Worse part is, everybody at my job noticed how bad they look. I came in for a manicure pedicure. For the manicure, I wanted builder gel with design on a couple of my nails and pedicure. Just a regular gel pedicure Pedicure: if I come back again, it's only exclusively to get a pedicure done and that to a basic gel pedicure. And that's because of the 20% of discount that I can get. Other than that, even the pedicure was suboptimal. The massage was just a lady rubbing her finger around in circles around my foot and a little bit of my ankle. No pressure whatsoever and didn't even massage my calf. On top of that, everyone around me was getting a neck massage after or some sort of back massage. I didn't get anything like that. The pedicure cost for what I get is still pretty expensive including the 20% off discount where I might as well go somewhere else get everything I get for the same exact cost. Manicure: I'm actually embarrassed right now to show my nails off for the next month. I do nails at home so I have somewhat of an idea as to how the quality of the builder gel should look as well as certain nail paint and nail design. I got a cat eye done, and I can see the brush strokes of the nail paint on my nails of the cat eye. I can also see the difference of the layers that she did on my nails. I can see the basic nail paint then I can see on the side of my nail where she didn't cover my entire nail with the cat eye color. On top of that my nails are not rounded evenly. They are all not equal in length. The nail paint isn't even applied evenly. It's applied at an angle so you can tell where it's close to touching my cuticle to where there's a solid gap between my cuticle area and the nail polish. The design isn't even remotely close to what I showed her. When I made the appointment, I asked them to book me with someone who can do nail art because I've had bad experience with nail art not looking remotely close to what I show. They promised they would book me with someone who's experienced. I hate to say this, but I could have done a better nail art job by myself. The cherry on top for me was when I had to apply my own cuticle oil on my own nails. At the end of the day if I ever come back here, it's to get a basic pedicure done with the 20% off discount. They are not good at doing cat eye. I'm not saying this based off of my experience. I'm also saying it based off a couple of friends who got cat eye here and were disappointed. The level of work I got done with the 20% off discount is how much I pay at a regular nail salon so I might as well just go to regular nail salon especially if they up-charge here to then give me a " 20% off ".
