Tried this place for a long awaited dinner with a friend. Lots of parking :) place is clean and cozy. Has live music :) we got the flight of wine. We also got the charcuterie board and it was a lot of food. Great combinations of cheese, nuts, fruits and crackers. Also came with amazing bread! Service was awesomazing! The servers were great! They don't bother you when they see that you are in the middle of a conversation but they make sure that our water glass is not empty and they check if we need more food and drinks. Finally checked this place out after hearing good things; however, it was underwhelming to say the least. Packed on a Saturday night, which was to be expected with the live music & beautiful weather. My boyfriend held down the two seats we snagged while I went to the bar to order. On a busy Saturday there was ONE person behind the bar, so I waited a bit as others had been trying to get attention/service before me. The wine list was impressive. Partner likes cab so I ordered a Truchard from the list (about $40/bottle). The lone server came back saying they're out of the Truchard but had two alternate suggestions around the same price, one of which was a Justin Paso Robles cab. Server informed it was $44/bottle. As I still had their wine list I flipped to the cab section and pointed to the EXACT same wine listed for $39. Server confirmed that yes that's the one but it's $44 in their system, so.... Oh, but he'll be sure to point it out to the owners so they can update it. Having worked in retail, service & wine industries myself, I was surprised he didn't offer to honor the lower price stated on their menu. But I'm not the type to make a fuss in general, and certainly not over $5 on a busy Saturday night, so I just paid the $44. Now that I know their prices are inaccurate, and their system will charge you a higher price than what's printed on their menus, and the staff seemed to think patrons should be perfectly fine with this... I don't anticipate coming back anytime soon. read more

I admit when I'm a little biased. I frequented this location when it was Midtown Wine Bar. It's just a few blocks from my house. So when I heard it had reopened, with new owners and name, I was excited to have a wine bar back in the neighborhood. Located in the back of a small shopping area, parking can be mixed on the time of hours you arrive. Happy Hour had plenty of parking out front. 7pm was a little tight, as area restaurants were now busy on a Friday night. I walked in and had to pause. The total remodel was impressive. Now grey wood floors and bar top, grey stone walls and fabulous deep purple velvet seating. Wow. Really enjoying the vibe !! And it seemed less noisy. Nicole welcomed me in and presented me with the cocktail, wine by glass, wine by bottle and bites menus. Tonight would be just a glass. The wine selection had a great range of whites and reds from all over. Even a few bubbles and rosés. The Argentina Uno Malbec was devine. The stemware has stepped up several notches. Even the water glasses had the feel of heavy cut crystal. I didn't order food on this visit, but definitely will in the future. The burrata plate with its own mini loaf of French bread looked creamy and huge. The salads, fresh. Service from 4:30 to 7:30 was great. Staff was added each hour as customers trickled in all evening. We were checked on frequently as we sat at the bar. Stopped in with some family to grab a bite to eat and hear Dom and Friends strumming the ukulele. Not my first time to Midtown Spirits so I knew I could count on quality food, drinks and entertainment. Tried the Burrata Cheese platter served with a warm baguette on this visit and I am once again impressed. Other things our group had were Pesto Chicken Sandwich, Harris Ranch Burger and a healthy sampling of the specialty cocktails menu. Everything is delicious! Amanda, Anthony and their team are always buzzing around to make sure everyone is having a great time. Dom and Friends are awesome, playing hits from pop while honoring the traditions of the ukulele's roots in Hawaii. This is a great place to meet friends in a casual atmosphere with great food, drinks and entertainment. Our out-of-town guests are very impressed by what Reno has to offer and can't wait to return to this cocktail bar soon. read more

Good ambiance, friendly service, but not much else to rave about. I wish I would have read the Yelp reviews before ordering food as I would have seen that they use single use plastic. Not only is this incredibly wasteful but it took our experience down several notches. I get that they can't have a dishwasher, but if you can clean glassware, including mugs, flutes, goblets, martini glasses, etc., then you can certainly clean reusable forks/plates. The food wasn't great. Think along the lines of what you might get on an airplane. The potstickers looked like they had potential but tasted like they were heated in a microwave. Definitely not worth the $15 price tag. We also ordered the avocado baguette which was laughable. Baguette? Not even close. It's literally a ciabatta dinner roll that has traces of avocado hiding underneath a mound of diced egg. The Empress French 75 was good and had a beautiful presentation. The bartender was very friendly as well. However, even if the food drastically improves, the plastic has to go before I'll return or recommend this place. read more

I am the type of person that I want to check it out before I take a group of people in and I had just heard about this place. WOW, just WOW! Midtown Spirits Wine & Bites has hit the jackpot for the 55+ crowd! They promote themselves as a friendly, elegant place and they are. As an older, single woman, I don't like to go into a bar by myself but this is not your run-of-the-mill bar. I went in to check out the jazz group that was playing and to see if there was a dance floor. Arriving a little after 4 pm the jazz group was playing and the crowd was having a great time. Finding a seat at the bar and ordering a nice glass of wine, the atmosphere was very pleasant and the music was awesome. I will encourage everyone I know to support this great place. Drawn out to check into some "new to me" businesses by Reno Food and Drink Week I chose MIdtown Spirits Wine & Bites at the last minute. I hadn't been in since the new owners took over. The inside has been spruced up a little. Making it a great atmosphere for a pre dinner drink. I was by myself but was wishing my wife had been able to join me. She would have loved the Smoked Old Fashioned that I picked from the menu lineup. It was pretty good. The Arepas are what I came in for and to be frank. It just wasn't what I was expecting at that price point. I think I was expecting a full meal type of food. But I realized that the food is there for nibbling and sating a completely empty stomach while you drink. So the prices are set accordingly. Like a decent tasting last resort. After a quick bite and drink I got the check and had a little shock. The menu prices were are upped by a little bit. After a few questions it seems they have a "card" price on the receipts and then if you pay cash it is the price seen on the menu. This felt a little confusing. I get it. I do. The credit card companies are just another tax on a small business. But I am not sure this is the best way to handle that necessary evil. Maybe just put the prices where you need to on the menu and let people decide right off if the pricing works for them. I may be back. I will keep my eyes out for any changes. read more

A group of us came here after my birthday dinner on a Friday night. The atmosphere was fun, upbeat and all the patrons were very friendly. When the band, (Baker Street with Adrian Baker and Kevin Karp) found out it was my birthday they sang happy birthday to me. Pretty awesome. The service and the drinks were really good. First let me preface my comments that I've been in the food industry for many years and a pretty tough critic. I've been here several times for the Sunday Jazz which is the best part of this business along with the attentive service. The service here is very good although I observed the owner doing shots behind the bar. Decor is what one would expect with bar tables along the wall across from the bar which serve the purpose.There are beautiful overstuffed chairs in the front and back. Love the idea and mid century vibe but they should be replaced with a larger seating area to enable conversations. They only fit one person, are isolating, and take up a lot of space and you can't talk to anyone because your so far away sunk in a hole. It seems the jazz music is getting louder each time we visit so it makes it harder to talk especially if your in these chairs. Don't expect to find a reasonable glass of wine by the small glass. It's $15 across the menu. Better to buy the cheapest bottle of wine for around $30. I would not recommend the food. At all. It's in a word, terrible, with smallish portions. My wife was starving so knowing the food is terrible she ordered a $14 Cesar salad against her better judgement. As expected the serving size was just perfect for a small child, not an adult, with four rock hard baguette croutons laid along the side. There was a whisper of dressing and a thimble size portion of Parmesan cheese. So for a bottle of $30 wine (purchased after we realized the house wine was $15 a glass) one beer and a salad we exited $87 lighter. Hey I know it costs $$ to have live music and run payroll, rent etc, but can't they offer a cheaper house wine and offer a better quality of food? read more

The problem my small group experience was before we could order and enjoy, an overwhelming almost chemical smell permeated the air and caused a couple of us to get irritated throats, causing coughing. Went to this bar to see the band Deep Ellem. I was very impressed with the atmosphere, the service, food and cocktails. EVERYTHING was great! I had the blood orange cosmopolitan and the pepperoni and mozzarella flatbread... both were excellent. We truly had a great time here... we will definitely be back! read more

A Hidden gem in Midtown. You may underestimate this place from outside but highly recommend to give it a shot. Tasty and Great looking specialty cocktails, and very reasonably priced compare to anywhere else these days. Trying their Food and Small Bites/Tapas selection is a must. They have something for everyone and you can tell they are using great quality ingredients. (The Lamb Chops would be my favorite) Also If you catch their live music, it's always a pleasant plus. This bar discriminates against younger people. Went there with my boyfriend and his mom and it was very busy no room at the bar we were trying to order drinks and we finally found a spot. My boyfriend brushed up against a $1 decoration against the wall because it was a tight space it was literally a little cardboard cutout reindeer with sparkles on it and the staff rudely warned him . He also made a big deal to let us know he was the owner my boyfriend felt uncomfortable so he told me let's go and the owner turned around and said we should go. Super rude people and terrible service. Don't waste any money here if your younger especially at night when it's busy you will be discriminated against. read more

They've just overgone a major remodel from the bar top to the furnishings. The owners have big plans to bring in fun events and use the space for hosting private events. Quite a cool little cocktail menu and mini food menu. It's way more bright in here than it used to be because they took the sheets off the windows, which now showcase the barn doors nicely. Great wine selection and beautiful wine wall. We'll see how they do, I wish them luck! read more

I've been going here a few times since my last review. It keeps improving. They added the Jazz band on Sunday afternoons and that has made it the go to place. It fills up by 4:30. I usually see some friends and regulars so that makes it more fun. The crowd is a little older than your college bars in Reno. I see a few guys wearing sports caps like I do. They have upgraded the wine bottle selection with a greater range of prices. They have Rutherford Ranch, St. Superey, BV Tapestry, Whitehall Lane, Clif Lede, Pahlmeyer Jason, Far Niente and Cakebread to name a few Napa Cabernets that I like. The food has improved too and they have expanded the kitchen and have more staff. The food selections are great if you want a bite while enjoying your wine. It isn't a dinner place though. I see a couple of people mentioned the single use table ware. I talk with many bar and restaurant owners and I have learned that Reno has strict requirements and high licensing fees for plumbing and dishwashers. The dishwasher for the plates is not the same type as for the glasses. You can't just put one in. While they do use plastic knives and forks, the plates are from palm leaves and can be recycled. I think that it's a good compromise. All-in-all I'd say that this is the best wine bar in Reno. read more

I stopped in here with a friend for a drink, some bites, and some catchup/event planning time. We sat at the bar and enjoyed interacting with our bartender throughout our stay. I love the new look and feel of the place and enjoy that they offer all kinds of beverages besides wine now. My friend and I both took advantage of the wine flight deal and then had an additional glass while we split the giant charcuterie tray and burrata plate. The charcuterie would have surely provided enough food for both of us since it is served alongside a loaf of bread. The price point for the food was a bit exorbitant in my opinion but the portion sizes and quality of the foods we received did reflect it. I would only order the charcuterie again if splitting with more than one other person due to its price and size but overall I was impressed with my entire experience. read more

Order a small snack and a full place setting of old school plastic settings will arrive whether you need them or not, and a disposable plate as well. Who the heck does this in 2022? It absolutely blows my mind. Blatant disregard for the environment and consumer preferences like this is such an offensive repellant, I will never go back. Like seriously lift a finger. They make desktop silverware washers and you could get recyclable single use paper plates if you really insist on your customers dining on plastic plates.
