Then, constant and consistent monitoring of the vehicle inspection process! Received a text with a link and followed the progress of the inspection and work being done. Overall, an excellent experience. My daughter now has her neighborhood mechanic!

But as she drove home, she heard a new clicking noise. When she tried to get them to look at it on her day off, Jade refused and had her make an appt on a work day. After bringing it in, he said that the new axles had failed and they'd replace them tomorrow ... or later, 'he didn't make guarantees.' She asked if she could drive it home and back, since she'd been driving it for two weeks. He said no, but if she came a minute after 5, he'd be gone. No apology for not test-driving the car and not prioritizing a problem they caused. And when she picked it up, the click was still there. She managed to contact the owner Randy, through whom my ex had set up the work. She brought it in and they had her drive a mechanic around to point out the noise. He heard it. Two hours later, she gets a call to drive Randy around. She comes back and a thunderstorm lets loose when he gets in the car. He pats her on the head and says that's just how Priuses sound and recommends $4000 more of work. Meanwhile the brakes fail and catch twice on the same hill, and it loses control on the roundabouts, with the skid indicator going on in dry weather. I drive my Prius to SD and have my ex call, since they don't seem to take women seriously. I take it to Mission Hills, also owned by Randy. As I drive it there, the thumping through the floorboards is making me nervous. The service manager promises they'll do a thorough inspection but calls later and says Randy wants to look at it himself. Randy calls later and says the ABS is failing, it will be $3000 to replace it. And there was never a problem with the axles, that Jade didn't need to re-do. When I pick it up, I ask for the paperwork on what Jade replaced and Randy sends me to Cass St. While fumbling at the keyboard, Jade says, "Just so you know, your daughter was drunk when she came to pick it up. I could smell it on her, I could see it in her eyes, she was slurring her words. I shouldn't have given her the keys. I should have called 911." I burst out laughing and said, "You mean coming from her job at a law office at 4:50 so you wouldn't leave? Thanks, I will put that in the review." He said, "Well I'll put that she was drunk in my review of your review. What else are you going to write?" I wait for the paperwork. To conclude, we've now replaced the ABS, which can fail due to a faulty brake bleed if debris is pushed into the solenoids. That was the mechanic's theory and can be verified with a search. But the clicking was still there. A third mechanic said there was play in the axle and the boot was leaking. On my last visit, I took it back to the second mechanic to check out. As they put it on the rack, the axle telescoped right out of the transmission! It was so fast, they didn't even catch it on camera. It had never been locked in. If that had happened while she was driving on the freeway, it could have been fatal. I've filed a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repairs. But my complaint isn't about the work, it's about the gaslighting, harassment, demeaning attitude, insults and dismissal of my daughter. If she had been more easily intimidated out of her own experience, if she hadn't had parents with resources and tenacity, this could have ended tragically. A man hearing a new sound on the way back from the repair shop is an attentive owner. For a woman, it's in her head, psychosomatic, hysterical, irrational. Probably looking for attention. Maybe trying to get money. Or perhaps just drunk.

After years of looking for a mechanic and only taking my Subaru to the dealership for all repairs…read moreor maintenance over the life of the car (8 years), I decided to take a chance here. I had a great experience with Alex at Value Auto Repair. I originally reached out through Yelp, and he was responsive and answered all of my questions. His pricing was significantly better than what the dealership quoted me, but what really stood out wasn't just the price--it was his honesty. I came in with a humming noise that I believed was a bad wheel bearing but was unsure. Alex was upfront from the beginning after making the same diagnosis and even encouraged me to get quotes from other mechanics if it made me feel more comfortable so I could make sure I was getting a fair deal. That kind of confidence and transparency is hard to find. When I arrived, he was able to get my car in within about 30 minutes to diagnose it. While the part was being delivered, I went to lunch, and once I came back, he had the wheel bearing replaced in about 45 minutes. Before I left, he took the time to show me both the old and new wheel bearings, explaining how they worked and letting me hear and feel the difference. I really appreciated him taking the time to educate me instead of just handing me a bill. One thing I noticed while I was waiting was how many customers came in who clearly knew Alex. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to see him, several appeared to be repeat customers, and there was an obvious level of trust between them. After my own experience, I completely understand why. Alex also has a great sense of humor, which made the whole experience much less stressful. Most importantly, the humming noise is completely gone, and my car drives perfectly again. If you're looking for an honest, knowledgeable mechanic who charges fair prices and genuinely cares about his customers, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Alex and Value Auto Repair. I know I'll definitely be back.

(1200 for radiator and hoses) * Shortly afterward: While driving, the hood unexpectedly opened, damaging the hood and shattering the windshield and almost causing wreck on freeway. * I had the vehicle independently inspected for approximately $200 after the shop initially denied responsibility. The inspection found many loose peaces of hardware relating to the radiator repair and the hood latch had been left loose. * After further discussion and inspection, Brake Stop accepted responsibility for the hood failure and agreed to repair the resulting damage. * The Jeep remained at the shop for nearly three weeks while the repairs were completed. Communication during this period was frustratingly limited, with me generally having to call for updates. * 8/27/26: I picked up the Jeep. The hood, windshield, hood struts and hood release cable had been repaired/replaced at no cost to me, and reluctantly reimbursed my $200 inspection expense. Did not offer refund for botched repairs Ultimately, I appreciate that the owner took responsibility and made the vehicle right. However, the original incident was extremely stressful and could have been dangerous, and I was disappointed that the vehicle was released after the radiator repair with the hood latch apparently not properly secured.

You might up paying for 2 tow bills like I did, a lost day, and the headache of finding another shop/time off work. I called at 9am to have the fuel lines replaced on my 68 Chevelle. Marcos told me they would look it at, had the time, and asked me to have it towed in right away. I arranged and paid for a tow to their shop, and Marcos confirmed they received it at 11am. I stopped by at lunch to meet him in person, add a few items like FiTech reset and parking brake adjustments, and he said the techs would get to it and he'd have an estimate by END OF DAY. No call from Marcos, so I called him at 4:30. Nothing had been done. No assessment, no techs looked at it, and when I asked so why did he have me tow it in, the conversation went sideways and he said "Maybe you should take it somewhere else" and that they'd push it outside and I could pick it up! My issue is not that the shop is busy (they all tell you that) - the issue is I paid for it to be towed in because he said they'd take a look at it and have an assessment by end of day. When I called him at 4:30, nothing had been done and I was met with the attitude/tone to take it somewhere else. I was pretty stuck having already paid for the tow there, and asked if they would get to it tomorrow, and he refused to answer and left me with no choice but to pick it up. Mission Auto gets great reviews - I'm not disputing that. That's the very reason I reached out to them. But I have to balance it with my very bad experience, so bad that this is my first yelp review. Warning: *especially if you tow your car to them, have them stick to their assessment timelines (not the fix, just the estimate). Towing it there means you are "stuck" so they don't have to stick to their word. The result can be a lost day, two tow bills and more headache/time off work to have it go to another shop because they won't acknowledge they missed the timeline THEY promised, and when challenged, will leave your car and keys at the door.
