When I heard that MM would be opening, I was so excited at the prospect of having a high-quality grocery/bistro/coffee shop in the area. Had heard rumors that their goal was to focus on high quality / organic options, but at reasonable prices - exactly what people want.
Leading up to grand opening, I would pop by and try to get a glimpse through the windows of how it was taking shape. When it finally opened, I was blown away at the aesthetic of the store and their attention to detail. Even on their first day open when there were understandably kinks to still work out, quality was impressively high. That being said, my initial impression was that their prices were also on the high side, which was a little disappointing.
Just went back a couple months later, and had a wonderful experience. Enjoyed a delicious organic cup of coffee - hard to find - along with some yummy pastries from Chaps and Alpine Deli that they had in their case. Even though it was early morning, when I learned that their sushi selection was provided by the owners of a nice sushi restaurant in town, I had to try some yellowtail sashimi as well. Was excellent!
Had a nice conversation with Matt, the meat department manager. He clearly cared about the quality of the products he put on his shelves. I walked out with some reasonably priced Wagyu steaks. Decided to try some kiwi berries for the first time, something they offer in their exotic fruit section - super delicious. In walking by the dairy case, I loved seeing some local raw milk options now stocked, (although the price was notably higher than at other local grocery stores for the exact same product).
At the end of the day, my excitement was reborn for this new hometown market. They are well-staffed with friendly people, maintain an inviting atmosphere, and have created a natural gathering place for our community. I still think there is room for them to straddle the line of quality and affordability a little better, especially in their grocery departments, but based upon the great effort I've seen so far, I expect them to continue to improve in this area.
