I don't come here very often as I am always buying for others as a non-drinker. Because of that I am not super familiar with the store. On every visit I have ended up asking for assistance and the employees have always been super helpful. I also watched an older gal trying to put a case of beer in her cart and an employee that was closer than I was jumped in and helped her. I have been here a few times, and the experience has usually been positive. Most of the employees are pretty helpful, and Trent has helped me find some very unique things when I wasn't sure what I was looking for. I will note the layout can be very confusing, and the beer section feels like an afterthought rather than something curated to encourage me to buy stuff. Unfortunately, being near some sketchy neighborhoods and college areas, the employees have to put up with some really crappy customers. Most recently a group came in, acting very suspicious. When they were all asked to show ID (Washington State Law) they became belligerent and problematic, screaming about racism and other crap when clearly they got caught being up to no good. Pretty sure two of them put the most recent (and fraudulent) reviews of this store. A word to the wise: the employees will be fined $5000 per incident if someone is sold to underage. Quit trying to break the law and then being a petulant child when caught. Anyway, despite some of the crap people who frequent this place, the employees are part of why I will continue to frequent this place. Side note: if you see someone who is trying to steal booze or is obviously underage, tell them to quit being problem children so they don't screw things up for the rest of us. read more

HEAVILY RACIST Trent was extremely unprofessional and racially profiled a member of our group, but only AFTER our purchases were made and they were able to make a minimum of $250 off of the lot of us. Trent then followed us out the door, glaring and screamed across the parking lot that "NONE OF YOU CAN EVER COME BACK HERE." When a member went back inside to ask politely what the problem was they were dismissed and told we "lied through our teeth". Unsure what exactly they were referring to, considering they checked every ID, all of which were valid and legal. I've come in my here myself multiple times with no problem. When separated, the two of us who present as white weren't just allowed to go about our business, they even went out of their way to help. It's very clear that there's a racially motivated problem that TRENT seems to have, and he remains unchecked by upper management. Do not go here. They don't deserve the business. read more

I came in about an hour ago, with four other friends. One of them needed to run back out to the car so all of a sudden he is the only one being carded to try to walk out of the store with NOTHING . As we're shopping separated looking for our items to make mixed drinks for an event we're being followed and watched . Once we go to check out we're all made to go to the same checkout line "because we're all together and we're with the other guy" and I said no we're not we're all separate purchases . While four men stood in a circle talking about us instead of ringing someone up , when the other guy also did come back in to purchase with his fiancé. I told the women that she should ID when people first walk in so you don't make people feel uncomfortable following them around and asking for it when walking outside . I felt very uncomfortable and bothered by the action of this woman at the beginning and the action of her and the men while leaving . Felt that my friends were being racially profiled . Huge store with a huge selection of all different types of alcoholic beverages and wines. You could literally get lost walking down every single aisle looking at all the different types of drinks. The prices are decent and if you're looking for help, it's easier to walk up to the registers and ask if there's anyone available to help. It's pretty much your one stop shopping for wine, beer, etc if you're not much of a run around town looking for a sale shopper. It's odd to see that Total Wines segregates types of alcohols and wines but maintains a Beer selection in Alphabetical Order by breweries rather than by TYPES OF BEER, ALE, ETC. The Wines are segregated by types and origin, the Spirits are separated by and different types. ... But as a Beer Lover, we are slighted and must search amongst Washington Beer aisle and pick out a six pack from the where IPA's are interspersed with Porter, Lager, Cream Ale, SMASH's, Pilsner, Ale, Wheat Beer, Kvass, Dunkel, Bock, Saison, Lambic Ale, American Pale Ale, Kolsch, Irish Ale, Scotch Ale...etc. ... When Total Wines can classify beers by TYPE and not Brewery Names, I will happily return. For now, I'll shop elsewhere, Thank you. P.S. You need my business far more than I need your's. read more

Terrible experience. Poor customer care. 5 of us walked in and spent a considerable time picking up many bottles of booze. At the check out i was standing with my friend who was making the purchase. I didn't have my ID with me, all 4 of us did! They didn't let us make the purchase despite the buyer and the rest of the party having their ids on them. If I had walked out just like that, it wouldn't have been a problem. But just because I happened to stand next to my friend, the cashier and the manager both didn't let us buy the stuff. have never experienced anything like this before - please make this dumb rule clear so that people don't waste their time at your store. Check id at the door. Or don't let people in ids. I had my Id in my phone - they refused to even see it. AND on top of all this nonsense they said we can't buy alcohol for another 24 hours! This is a Total Wine - pretty much the same as you'll find in every location around the country. It's good for what it is, but it's not an ideal spot. Now, I can only speak to the beer side of this store, as that's what I love. And the only part of the store with which I'm familiar. And the beer selection is decent; it's probably the best selection you'll find in Spokane, with just about the best prices in the area. It's just that while the beer selection is quite good, it's very clear that they don't care about beer at this Total Wine. One issue is that a lot of their beer isn't fresh. Some of it ages well, so it's got a really long shelf life, but your hoppier beers (like your IPAs), don't do well with ageing. And when you have IPAs sitting on the shelves for months on end, they taste old and spoiled when you buy them. It's unfair to the beer, the customer, and the brewery. Another thing I've noticed is that they don't always seem to have anyone working who actually knows anything about beer. I was in line with someone you asked about how long a growler would last. It took three people and some fancy electronics, and they still didn't come up with a great answer. I'd advise going elsewhere, but there aren't really any better options in Spokane, unfortunately. read more

Every time we come here it takes 10 minutes at the register for every person to get IDs checked. I get that you need to be thorough but it happens every single time and they have to write all over our information down then call a manager to double check. We had to wait 10 minutes just for the manager to come to the front while watching the line at the register next to us check people out with none of the wait. It happens every time I come in but I've never seen anyone else be checked like that. They need a better system. read more

Huge selection and great prices. It's a fantastic store to go to if you're looking to load up on good wine but don't want to spend an absurd amount of money. Also the staff is more knowledgeable than you'd think--I've pulled off some great food & wine pairings based on their suggestions. (They can be a tad pushy though, so be prepared to stand your ground if you aren't looking to load up on ten bottles of wine.) So why only three stars? Well I've bought about fifteen bottles of wine from there and three of them have been spoiled. At this point I pretty much assume that if I buy three or four bottles of wine one of them will be no good. Whoa, nelly! This behemoth in the same strip mall as a Target won my heart over. What a selection of liquor! I'm not much of a beer drinker or wine drinker (I def have my faves in those categories) but I was really impressed with all the liquor on hand. For example, just looking at coffee liqueurs, there were at least 10 options. The staff is knowledgeable-ish (for a chain?) and friendly. Checkout process was easy and I spent a more than a few minutes in the humidor, checking things out. Prices seemed fair enough. Is it illegal to offer coupons on such items? I would love to see a 10% coupon or some kind of package deal on all the tiny airplane-sized bottles...6 for $10 or some such. The tiny Crown Royal and St. Germain bottles were the sweetest! NEVER COME TO THIS PLACE!!! Ridiculous to say the least. Staff is extremely rude and unhelpful, and just a straight out terrible place. I came here once, my mom was buying a small alcoholic drink, at the time I was 20, and they had no problem selling to her with me there, with me not having my ID on me. I now (age 21) take my little sister (age 19) there with me to buy a card and a little glass gift, and they wouldn't sell to me, even though they just had let my mom buy alcohol right in front of me, and this was no alcohol at all!!! Great clean , weii-stocked and nicely wide-aisled store. Howevvvvver... Bought a box of chardonnay (only the best for me, baby!) recently and discovered a leak that had soaked the bottom of the cardboard when I got home.. My screw-up? Manufacturer boo-boo? No blame....it obviously wasn't leaking on the shelf and I wasn't looking for a freebie or $ back, but I called the store that night just to let manager know. YOW! He was grumpy when he came on the line and actually growled "Well, there's nothing I can do anything about it over the phone!" What?! You can't? I called his manager next day to report this "conversation" and she promised to call his uber-manager and someone would call me back...still waiting. Ironically, their receipt touts " No hassle returns"...It should read "Hassles with management." Not going back. We usually have a good experience here but yesterday being Memorial Day customer service wasn't so great. We asked about a certain beer. Cashier was blank. She asked another employee. Never heard of it. The last time I had the beer in question was 1986 in Napa Valley CA at a Beers of the World type bar. For some reason I was craving it even though not a beer drinker. Oh well. I would think the staff would know their products instead of looking blank. As we exited, I noticed cluttered wine boxes and asked if boxes for sale. Employee said ummm they're not for sale with attitude. You know who you are! They need to be stored elsewhere. I'll go to Trader Joe's next time. This place is awesome! I don't make it out to that side of town very often, which is probably good because I'm sure I would visit more frequently if I did. They have a huge wine selection, which is most important to me. But, they also have a great selection on liquor as well. Which pleases my vodka loving husband. I have also been known to pick up a bottle or two of ouzo there. So they pretty much have the works. Sometimes I go in there looking for something specific, or even check on their website. If they don't have it, I ask my "go to" wine manager there Matt. He is very knowledgeable, and friendly. They also give a 10% discount if you buy six or more bottles (certain rules apply). read more

What a joke. I found several bottles that I was looking for. I asked before checkout if I could write a check. They said that I could but that the process was slow. I was fine with that. I wrote the check, provided my ID, they scanned both and then their system denied the transaction. With several thousand dollars in my account, I couldn't buy four bottles of whiskey. No one said sorry, the manager that arrived confirmed that I was denied and then my order was suspended and I was asked to step aside. Dumbfounded, I just left. I will NEVER buy from a Total Wine again. When I called the number that was on the printout, the automated reason for denial was that I don't typically make these types of purchases and they don't have a track record of me buying from them. I don't even have a Total Wine in my state (Idaho). I always write a check in Idaho when I buy liquor because it's convenient and I don't have to worry about a credit card bill. I drove 2 hours to get to this store. Complete burn of time and utter disregard of my experience by the staff and manager. They missed a significant sale and all future sales from me because I wasn't carrying $400 in cash and I don't like using a credit card. What's the point of accepting checks if you won't accept checks from people who don't write checks at your business frequently? They have bottles that I can't get in my state but I'll never again shop there. read more

The customer service there is terrible. I'm not a big hard alcohol consumer and couldn't find some things I was looking for despite looking in the obvious places. After I spent over 15 minutes trying to find it, I gave up. And there were no clerks around to ask except the cashiers. It's the Christmas season and I would think there would be more help throughout the store, but NO!! By the time I got to the checkout I was ready to pay and leave. I didn't want to inconvenience the people behind me in line to ask someone to go get it for me, and that's assuming there's only one size and not several at different prices to choose from. My husband and I are big wine geeks, so of course we had to check this place out. I had no problem with the selection, although the store layout is confusing and only about a third wine. My problem was with customer service. We checked out the tiny wine tasting and the man asked for id. I handed him my military id and he said he couldn't accept it. So I gave him my out of state license. The man called a manager over while he held my id's hostage. I was put off by that and told my husband I thought it had been odd. My husband figured the man was just confused. I've never had two forms of government issued id looked over by a manager before. If I had known that would happen, I wouldn't have bothered. We bought some wine and went to check out. The cashier asks for id, and my husband gives her his military id. She pages the manager, only saying "military id", like this happens all the time and they have a policy. The same manager scrutinizes our id's again, even though he just saw us, says nothing, and leaves. I ask the cashier what the problem is. She says they're not trained to look at military or out of state id's. What type of training does this require? Locate my birth date and I'm good. I've been all over the country, my husband has been active duty for a decade and never once have we been hassled for being a military family. I'll go somewhere that wants my business. read more
