I had great experiences with Midwest Equity Mortgage in the two occasions I had with the company. One for a refi and one for a new purchase. The refi was very smooth and quick. John Day - the mortgage officer - is very knowledgeable about the mortgage industry and was very helpful throughout the process. He completed the refi in about 30 days. My second experience was when my wife and I wanted to purchase a home together. We were initially working with a different mortgage broker from a different company but after he missed to lock down our rate we gave up and decided to change broker and mortgage company. I called John at Midwest Equity and asked him to take over our file. It was a very risky proposition since we were running out of time and we wanted to make sure he could close our loan before the end of escrow. He ordered the appraisal within 24 hrs and closed our rate before the rates were about to go up and was able to close our loan in time before the close of escrow. I did a mortgage refi with Mat McGinnis and I was very happy with his up front and open dialog. I was a little skeptical at first because I had already checked into some other companies that made grand promises of great refi programs but turned out to be total shysters, offering one thing at first, but then something totally different in the end. I had lots of questions which Mat took plenty of time to fully answer and he put me at ease with the whole refi process.I was told up front what the terms of the loan would be and that there was going to be no out of pocket expenses. We used Midwest Equity Mortgage for two refinances. Ryan Winstead was our loan officer and he could not have done a better job. Both loans closed very quickly and there were no issues. The GFE matched the closing papers and there were zero surprise costs. One of our homes is still being remodeled. Other loan officers in the area would not help us to refinance our loan because of this reason, even though the remodel is mostly complete. Ryan Winstead was able to close the loan saving us over 2 percent interest per month and shortening the term of the loan. Our refi was not the cookie cutter straightforward loan and wound up getting cancelled after almost 30 days of fiddling around. The issues were known from the beginning and the loan officer, Jay Swab, was asked to look into whether the refi could be done at the outset. Laziness, incompetence or rigidity of internal procedures could explain this. It resulted in an almost 30 day waste-of-time debacle.
