While this is in Douglas, don't let that confuse you if you're new to vacationing in Saugatuck.. it's basically the same area. Like a few minutes from downtown Saugatuck. One of the jugs of milk I bought was curdled, so there may be occasional logistical issues, but I don't think there's any point in driving all the way to Holland like I foolishly did last year. Addendum: right after I wrote this review I had the following experience. I walked in desperately looking for croissants and asked if they had any even though there weren't any in the case. A nice lady went into the back, got three of the frozen croissants they would use to make deli sandwiches, rang them up and sold them to me ad hoc. One of her co-workers said "I didn't even know we can do that." And the nice lady replied, "we can do anything the customer wants."

A friend in…read moretown from California had her heart set on making mulled wine, so we were seeking mullimg spices and desperately hoping to avoid a long drive to Meijer and the inevitable long search and long check-out line that we would've expected to find there on a holiday weekend. My husband is a homebrewer and had excitedly noticed on our stop earluer in the week that Daane's carries wine and beer making supplies, so we thought it was worth a shot. The owner walked us over to the wine room, showed us the spiced cider spice mix, which she said wouldn't work because it's too sugary. He then noticed one of the meads in stock came with a complimentary pavk of mulling spices and he just gave it to her -- no charge. Whenever we need to pick up a quick something from a local shop -- we will be coming here. They also offer the quirkiest array of services here: copy machine, public notary service, Western Union, a hot lunch station, large greeting card section, firewood and some lake toys and lanterns.
