There is a reason why Miguel's always has line going out the building, and that's because it's really good. It's not a New York style pizza joint and it doesn't try to be, really Miguel's is it's own thing. The crust is thin and crispy and the cheese is always hot and dripping. They make and excellent sauce in house and they have a gigantic selection of toppings, many of which are grown locally. Yes, it takes at least 20 minutes to get your pizza, but anyone who gets bored at Miguel's is a bore themselves. They have an outdoor basketball hoop, a horse shoe pit and a big ass field to play in while you wait. It's a hang out spot for all of the climbers and hikers and an awesome place to sit around and relax. When you're visiting the Red River Gorge, this is really the only good option for food. Prices are definitely a little on the high side, but it's in a touristy area that gets a ton of visitors, so that's expected. Anyone who travels around the country will tell you that Kentucky has some of the worst pizza in the entire United States, but Miguel's is one of the rare exceptions. This place is easily the best and most unique pizza restaurant I've ever eaten at in Kentucky. read more

A friend and I stopped in while she was visiting me on vacation. After hearing all the wonderful word of mouth hype (I'm a local) it's exactly as I was expecting. The pizza was great and so many toppings to choose from. I love that you can order what you want (2, 4 slices etc.) and it won't empty your pockets. The lines were a bit long but it was a busy Sunday @ noontime, and they went quickly. Our order was delivered on a table outside in a decent time and it was well worth the wait! This is a hard review, we actually drove past it at first due to the line being out to the road. But came back wanting to try it. We went in and filled out a piece of paper without pizza order on it. Then ordering ale 8 to go along. We were informed it would be any where from 45 minutes to and hour and a half wait for our pizza. After a while we received our pizza and checked for accuracy, which was spot on. The pizza was very good pizza for not being "fast food pizza". The only complaint would be the wait but with it being one of the few places to eat around the area it was understandable. They handle it well though, service was efficient and there's plenty of seating to accommodate. Beer selection was good and pricing on everything was fair even for a tourist destination. Now to the pizza - crust was fine, toppings are great quality, but for the love of pizza change your SAUCE! I'm not sure why the locals think this is such a great place, other than it is one of two places open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays in Slade, KY. Pizza was just okay. Very greasy. Building is not insulated and is very noisy. If it is nice out, I recommend sitting outside. They had a lot of workers walking around, but tables were dirty and trash cans were overflowing. Flies were on everything, ketchup bottles, tables, etc. I was shocked as employees kept walking pass the overflowing trash cans and not emptying them. Was very impressed by this little hole in the wall in the middle of some of the most beautiful land. Great staff and good pizza. Love how you can pick whatever toppings and then enjoy the weather on the picnic tables. Great amount of food for the price and they have the double bottles of ale8. As we embarked on a trip to the Natural Bridge area, several people recommended that I stop here to get some pizza before hitting the trails. Since there didn't seem to be much around but little shacks and trees and cliffs, Miguel's seemed like the perfect place to try. It's a fantastic little pizza joint in the hills of Kentucky, tucked into the trees next to a gravel lot and some kind of campground. There were tents pitched in the grassy area nearby, so I'm assuming you can camp right here. Interesting. Anyway. We saw a lot of families, rock climbers, tourists, all kinds of people. The place was PACKED with a line out the door. The interior is really small -- we kind of freaked out when we didn't know where to eat -- but thankfully, there is a ton of outdoor seating behind the building. We waited in line for awhile. Then we ordered. Then we sat down. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. And each time someone came out with a pizza, we jumped up, hoping it was ours. Nope. We waited. And FINALLY, our pizzas were brought out. My husband had his own and I had some kind of veggie pizza. They tasted light and fresh, but completely satisfying. We were a bit annoyed with the wait, though. Best pizza ever? Nah.... I think my expectations of this place were a tad high, so I wasn't blown away, but it was pretty darn good. And adorable. A bit too earthy for me. It seems like this place has been here forever... and it shows. The door, chairs, tables, utensil boxes and just about everything is filthy. Keep in mind that there is a tent city campground out back, and the majority of the other patrons that weren't camping, were hikers and climbers. Hand sanitizer please! Ok, now that I've just about offended just about everyone who read this, I'll get to the food. Before you walk in, there are order cards. Grab one of those and fill it out before you head to the line. The toppings come in 2s. I chose the bean based (chickpeas and black beans) pasta bowl with 4 toppings for $7. I had no idea that it was baked... which took twice as long as my husband's pizza. Another thing that isn't evident on the ordering card, is that the pasta bowl is smothered in tomato sauce and cheese. It does indicate that up on the overhead menu, so pay attention or ask questions when ordering. I wish I'd have stuck with my first plan to order a salad bowl... or just have ordered 2 slices of pizza like a normal person. I did try my husband's pizza and it was ok... I wasn't a fan of the canned pineapple. I would've rated my lunch a two, but because this place is known for it's pizza and that was better than what I ordered, I'll bump it up. Miguel's Pizza is awesome! I think if you're in the Red River Gorge/Natural Bridge State Park it's a must. It's a pizza place. It's also a camp ground. And it's usually packed with climbers, campers, and tourists. Just keep those things in mind going in. But, if you're a fan of pizza (and who isn't?) you'll most likely love this place! Their list of toppings is phenomenal. They have so many choices! And the ordering system is fantastic. When you come in you grab an order ticket and write your order out for the cashier. It's basically a check-list, so it's super easy. The menu is easy to navigate and they keep a board at the side to inform you if they're out of any toppings. The pricing is really reasonable and is based on the number of slices/toppings you order. When you submit your ticket you pay and order a drink, then when you're order is ready they bring it out to you. Voilà! Pizza bliss. Miguel's also has salads, rice bowls, sandwiches, breakfast, Ben & Jerry's, and most importantly for this Kentucky girl, Ale 8. You'll always catch me there with two slices loaded with amazing toppings like feta cheese, black beans, chickpeas, corn, bacon, jalapeño, etc., an Ale 8, and then finishing up with a pint of Ben & Jerry's. (I like to eat, ok?) The atmosphere at Miguel's is all peace and love. I've never been there and not seen someone walking the tightrope out back or playing fetch with their adorable puppy. Build your own pizza after hiking? I. Am. DOWN. Miguel's is very close (relatively) to the 77/Nada Tunnel entrance to the Red River Gorge park. So if you are famished and trying not to eat your own arm after an intense hike...you don't have much further to go or longer to wait. It is very busy, like line out the door. But they are prepared and have order sheets outside as well. On the order sheet, you mark what you want. Pizza, salad or sandwich. With so many toppings to choose from for any of the mains! And they are really well priced! You order slices in multiples of 2, and then pay extra for how many toppings you get. I definitely wanted 3 toppings....but to get my money's worth, I added a fourth (price changes are at 1-2 toppings, 3-4, 5-6, etc.). My weird-ass pizza choice ended up being 2 slices with chorizo, red onions, black olives, and spinach. It was delicious! A bit on the greasy side...but that'll happen with chorizo! I tell you man....it was great! I only wish there were more options for indoor seating as I was really craving some air conditioning....but there was plenty of shade and a TON of outdoor seating. After a long day of hiking, Miguel's seriously hit the spot! We passed this place on our way to the Natural Bridge and made a mental note that this would be our stop for food before leaving for the day. We couldn't have made a better decision. Where I'm living in Louisville, you'd be tempted to call Miguel's a hole in the wall. In this area, though, it fits right in with the rustic feel. There's a small area inside to sit and eat and a ton of picnic tables outside. This goes right with the outdoorsy-ness of where you are. The ordering setup they have going on is great. You walk inside, grab a slip of paper and pen, and mark down exactly what you want. You can order the pizza by 2 slices, 4 slices (half a pizza), or a whole pizza of 8 slices. Your name goes on the paper and after you place your order you can have a seat and wait. As far as pizza typically goes, I'd say this place is pretty darn cheap, too. I got out of here with a tab just about $10 (including my soda). Now let's talk about this pizza because oh my goodness. The crust was perfectly crispy with every bite and it wasn't even a thin crust pizza. It came out piping hot but when when I finally got to take a bite my gosh. The cheese strung all over, the pepperoni slices were huge, and that's just the beginning. I got four toppings: pepperoni, bacon, meatball, and banana peppers. The bacon was freshly cooked and in giant pieces (about half a slice of bacon really). The meatball was crumbled all over the pizza and didn't dry out like I've found it does on most pizzas. The banana peppers added a great flavor, as well. I got 4 slices which was perfect for me. I ate 3 and got to bring the last one back to Louisville with me. The sodas come in glass bottles which I always find tastes better, even though I'm sure it's just the same as out of the can. Ale-8 is my drink of choice where I can get it and it complimented the pizza well. I mean, it compliments everything well really. Overall, completely satisfied with Miguel's. This is my second time here. I think I have high expectations for the pizza since people are raving about it. The place was very popular and the staff seemed very nice and attentive. The place seemed clean, there's no dining inside the restaurant due to the changes the restaurant needs to do to comply with the pandemic which was understandable. For the price and the restaurant I say 5/5 without any hesitation. However, for the pizza I have to rate it 1/5 for my own experience. For the price I paid, this pizza is not worth it. The dough is not cooked, I cannot even slice it because it's just like rubber. It seemed like the dough was frozen and has to be thawed fast for the demand in the restaurant. The sauce is not that great- basic pizza sauce, no flavor and for this pizza I ordered the sauce was a little bit too much. I attempted to pick up my slice of pizza to eat- and to my disappointment all the sauce and toppings slide off from the breading. It was an experience eating pizza with the toppings, sauce and breading separately. I was famished so I have to eat at least a slice, but I cannot force myself to eat more. Miguel's is to the Red as Camp 4 is to Yosemite Valley. The only difference being that Miguel's is waay better. No rangers, no tourons, no nonsense. You can relax at Miguel's and be yourself. No checkout times, no lines to wait in for a space to set your tent, no worries. What you do have is hippie climber paradise with bonfires, slacklines, chair bouldering, cheap camping, priceless camaraderie, tasty food, beta sharing, partner finding, cheap showers, on and on... Miguel's... The center of the Red River Gorge climbing community. A few friends and I stayed at Miguel's for our weekend trip to the red, and we found it quite welcoming! We arrived at 3am after 8 hours in the car, and walked straight to the back and pitched our tents and passed out. This was our first visit to the red, and we thought Miguel's would fit our needs well. Camping: First off, this place has all the things you will need for a few days or a few weeks stay. They have extremely cheap camping ($2 a night per person) and they also have really warm showers:) They may be a little intimidating at first, just remember to bring your shower flip flops! The showers are so so warm and will help to boost your moral after a long day at the crag. Showers are $1 for 4 minutes. I recommend always taking an extra token (4 minutes goes by fast!) Other guests are generally nice, and they tended to keep to themselves. My group was asked to quiet down around 11pm, so that others could get some sleep. The people that stay here are not the party college campers, they are generally serious climbers - that said, earlier in the evening a little bit of partying did occur. Food: The food was excellent. The pizza: legendary. I had breakfast each day, and I was quite surprised that everything I tried was really good. The traditional breakfast was best, and included eggs (served however you like) hash browns, bacon, and some really good toasted bread. The breakfast wraps were also great! The food is delivered to your table inside the store or out back, and the wait times were generally pretty short. Make sure to grab an Ale8 if its your first visit:) Miguel's also has a full climbing store. Harnesses, ropes, helmets, draws, cams, shoes. Point is, whatever you forgot to pack, Miguel's has it. This was so handy as my group forgot quick draws, and we were able to pick up a few for pretty cheap because they were having a sale. Other clothing gear is also available, like t-shirts, jackets, pants and shorts. The only negative I can think of about this place is the girls who work the counter. They could be a little short with people, and come off a little bit rude. It's to be expected from early twenty something hipster climbers. I had a great stay at Miguel's and I can't wait to go back. I highly recommend for single climbers wanting to climb some trad or sport, as its easy to find a climbing parter here. This place is great for groups too, as well as families. read more

The pizza dough is without a doubt hand made, I love that the shape of the crust is irregular. Had two slices of pepperoni, it was made fresh. Ale-8-One seems to be the beverage of choice here. They also sell frozen treats. Miguel has a campground on site that caters to climbers so they literally live there. The parking lot was full of cars from various states. The inside is very cool, you sit on old bus bench seats. Has free Wi-Fi. It also doubles as a sporting goods store for climbers. How cool is that? Really glad I made the trip. If you're a rock climber and in the Red area than this is a must see place. Miguel's is not only a place eating, camping, and supplies but also serves as a main landmark for directions. Ordering food here is pretty simple. You get a small piece of paper with option, you check the options you want, hand it in and pay. They give you a number and than you find a place to chill until your food comes. Being one of the few restaurants in the area this place is pretty busy so be ready to wait. Make sure you make you number visible wherever you decide to wait because there are lots and lots of places to hide here and I'm sure the servers have only so much patients. The indoor seating is pretty small and doesn't offer much seating or waiting area for that matter. There are two large outdoor seating areas. One is more designated for the camper to cook their own food but people get their pizza's there too. Of course their supply is not endless to be prepared for some of there options to be unavailable. If you have a place to stay there isn't much seating than getting your pizza to go might be a better option. When I went we order a whole pie and is was ready in about 30 min. There is a gear shop a short walk away where climbers can find all they need for climbing outdoors. This is also where you pay for camping and such. The camping is primitive but there are shared restrooms and some showers for the campers. All in all this is a very bustling place. Great pizza and a great place to come with friends. I love Miguel's Pizza! It isn't just a pizza restaurant, but also an awesome community full of climbers from all over the world. It is the go-to campground for climbers in the Red River Gorge. Plenty of spots to pitch up a tent or a hammock. You can car camp too. It is $2 a night per person, which is a lot cheaper than some other campsites I've been to. The pizza at Miguel's is good, but not as good as Pies and Pints in West Virginia- New River Gorge. You can get a pizza as a whole, half, or a quarter. ~50 toppings. Miguel's Pizza also serves sandwiches, salads, rice bowls, coffee, and breakfast (7am-11am). The wait for food can be super long especially during peak climbing season. Their bread was also really good! I think they make it themselves. Amenities: - Bathrooms; Men & Women, two stalls each. There are sinks. When I went, only one sink worked in the ladies room. It's considerably clean considering the high usage. - Showers; 1 token for 4 minutes shower time. $1 per token. You buy the tokens from the gear shop. There are about 5 shower rooms. Showers are nothing fancy, just a small shower room with a hanger on the door. I've never had any issues using the showers at night. - Laundry room; never used it - Communal campfire; whoever shows up first can make the fire. They have all the necessary equipment to start one. You may have to collect your own wood. We used the campfire to cook our first night there. It was a great place to meet climbers. - If you don't like sleeping in a tent, hammock, or car, they have rooms for rent (~$40 a night); located above showers - Sink area- they have two large sinks for washing dishes. In this room, people leave their cooking belongings. - Basement of Miguel's Pizza; has wifi, multiple outlets, books, and games. Lots of climbers hang out here. It can be a little smelly. - Pavilions with tables and benches - Slack line Need climbing or camping gear? They have a gear shop in the basement of the white house located across the campground. It is also where you pay for and pick up your tent tags. *Since Pollack Co. is a dry county, you're technically not allowed to drink, but Miguel's is cool with it as long as it is concealed. read more

Miguel's is a cute pizzeria near Natural Bridge State Resort. In addition to serving as a restaurant, they also offer camping sites in the adjacent field. The pizza here is create your own -- you'll choose a base sauce and all toppings (the list of toppings is extensive and I like that some are on the stranger side). Pizzas are quite large, but you can also order a half pizza. Miguel's has a good selection of local beers and a healthy reserve of Ale-8. Best Pizza Location in the Area. I stayed here a couple night while climbing in the area and it is definitely an experience. If you are a climber in you need to experience Miquel's at-least once. The place has grown and evolved over the years and dirtbags still seem to worship the place. Camping: Fill out the wavier online (kinda of a pain) and pay your 2 dollars at the register, or online. I car camped and it was pretty painless. Cooking: There is a big communal cooking area, if you brought your own food. You can setup, cook, and chat with other about the day events. Food: They offer cooked food for you at the shop. Normally people get pizza, but they also cook "bowls" (like a rice or pasta in a tin). Also, the soft drink "Ale-8-1" is only a buck, so its worth it. Cleanup: In the bath building, there is a large wash room for cleaning up dish. However its only cold water. Bathrooms: The Men's bathroom was pretty gnarly. 1 was broke, and the sinks were leaking. This was definitely a big negative for the experience though. I didn't see the showers, so i can't speak to them. People: If you are traveling solo, this is the place to meet up and try and find someone to climbing with. There are all types of people, Dirtbags, College Kids, Foreigners, you name it. It is the center of the climbing world for the area. The place can become annoying after a bit, but it is a great experience. If you never been you need to at-least once. Its not the cleaniest place, but it full of climbers so its can kind to be expected. If you want a clean bathroom and sink to wash up in the morning. Head down the road to the travel station. This was clutch and made it much more bearable. read more

Good pizza, different from the standard fair. They sell by the slice. The place was really busy, but still got out of there pretty quickly. Took 16 minutes to get your food after the order was placed. They do this make your own pizza. So you better know what you want. We wanted the normal "supreme" pizza. They didn't have that selection available. So we built ours took a half pizza for $10 with tax. Had it to go. Crust is really good. Worth a stop if your in the area. read more

Pizza is not good, even little Caesars is better. Very busy this memorial weekend. Place is has a cult followed among climbers more so because it is a well known social hangout/camping spot for them-Not the food. But in this part of KY, having a restaurant at the same place you camp is a huge win! Pizza was dripping grease all over and over lacked flavor. Prices are fair considering it is not a chain. read more

The place to go if your in Eastern Kentucky and your one of the following: not from Eastern Kentucky and you need a cheap campsite, you like to rock climb, your wanting to see Red River Gorge or you like pizza. BYOB- this is dry country. FYI- It's down the road from the iguana/lizard museum trailer, which is parked near the bathroom/visitors center off Highway 11. They remain also closed for winter season, so check the schedule. read more

Good & hot pizza - very crowded and a bit slow. T-shirts in the gift shop, ask for women & kids as they are behind the glass. Large slices and a variety of toppings (chickpeas + black olives is great). Parking lot is a free-for-all and easier for trucks/SUVs due to gravel and big potholes. Camping is available behind the place if you are there for multiple days. read more
