Stopped in around 6, unknowing that they close at 7. Guy was already scrubbing the grills and the extra help left for the night. Guy looked shocked that I was in there trying to get a Reuben. He frantically texted the help to no avail (she did eventually show up, much later). We were in no rush so we enjoyed the swing out front while we waited. The outside has several nice bar top chairs to eat at. Inside also has some space but it's sort of musty in there. Why we opted to-go. Got back to our cabin and devoured the Reuben... I love a good Reuben and this is probably one of the better ones I've ever had. The house made kraut slaw was so good and it had the perfect amount of thousand island. Most of the time, the corned beef dries out but not here! It sat well between the Swiss and rye! Fries were super thick and had a good Lawrys season salt type seasoning. The rear has a "bar" with like four liquors and some cans of pop. Not your typical tavern joint. Call ahead, order yourself a Reuben to go and enjoy!

The set up is hilariously insane, worth the stop alone. The cashier was fun and friendly, and the graffiti in the women's room was inspiring! I have a basic bitch stomach, so got the "Puppy" with just ketchup. Sproßling got the Mothman, garnished with I believe onion rings and 1000 Island. Husband got his smothered in jalapeños. We split a full size onion rings, which were hot and tasty. We all had Gold Peak tea. The dogs tasted great, if I had a normal stomach I would have gotten a second one. As it was, we were in and out and back on the road quick as a wink!

Tucked away just a few minutes off I-64 in Barboursville, WV, this place offers eccentric hot dogs at a reasonable price. Using all beef dogs they create some wild and crazy options as well as the basics. Surprisingly they have non-dog choices and some vegetarian options too. Look, truth be told the dogs themselves are average, but you're not here just for the food. You're here for the experience. The place is decorated - every square inch of it - with stuff that looks like it came right off the Clampett's jalopy. (Look it up kids.) Bring your aw shucks attitude, because the punny signs are everywhere. And with a little planning ahead, apparently you can actually get married in the Weddin' Chapel. It's tacky and corny and therefore the perfect roadside stop. We arrived around 11:30 on a Sunday and had a short wait. When we left under an hour later, the line was creeping towards the street. Our line moved quickly in part to the friendly staff. The wait for our food wasn't long either. There was plenty of outdoor shady seating, but you can also sit inside in their "renovated" school bus. Is it a 5-star dining experience? No. Is it a 5-star road trip destination. You bet yer britches!

They offer a build your own option as well where you have quite a number of other options of meats and toppings. I have to say the wings were perfectly fried. I requested a side of the sauce to dip the wings because I really wanted more of the great flavor! Finger licking good! It was a real nice day so we chose to sit in their outdoor area which is covered by triangular canopies. There are picnic style tables and an area for kids to play. Very comfortable area. Our server was great and very attentive. There was no long waits for anything! If you enjoy a good hotdog like I do I recommend you try here. Even if you don't want all the fancy stuff you can just enjoy a simple dog with only the fixing you want! I'll be back for sure!

It is my first time to Morehead, Kentucky. Absolutely beautiful place!…read moreMy son said I "needed" to try Cook Out before I left. I must tell you, there is massive hype surrounding this drive-thru only restaurant. For the college kid on a budget I totally get it. However, I was not totally on board as we rolled to a stop at one of the two drive thru lanes. It was pretty hard for me to hear and understand the person on the intercom. They have Mr Pibb but not Dr Pepper. Let me say here that Mr Pibb was a drink whose recipe was surely invented by the Soviets during the Cold War in order to create chaos an unrest in the US. I just got a coke. I ordered a "tray", with a double burger on the advice of my more worldly, athlete son. He went the distance and ordered the same, but in a special way ( I think it might have been "cookout style"?). Anyway, it came with chili and slaw... on the burger. Again, under his advisement , I ordered the hush puppies as a side, and I saw they had Cajun Fries, so I thought I would try them. My one regret is that I did not try one of the 45 shakes on the menu. I was not super hungry and I just couldn't justify buying one. The food was ready, fresh, and hot in a matter of about three minutes! A friendly efficient young lady passed it through the window to us and took our payment. I was pretty impressed at their operation as far as that went. My son's order was correct but I think they might've given me a junior burger or something? It turned out it was fine because there was quite a bit of food there. Hush puppies were in fact pretty good. The "Cajun Fries" were just crinkle cut fries with some kind of spicy, salty powder sprinkled on them after they put the fries in the styrofoam container. The tiny burger was tasty, and the burgers taste like they are flame broiled. Pretty good! Overall, the food was pretty good. My experience would've been a lot better if the intercom and order taker had been little bit better, so keep that in mind if you go here. The drive-through only business is not for me, but for college kids and people who just want to get something to eat on the way home I think it's fine. I can't recommend the shakes because I didn't try one but they all sounded really good.
