My overall experience was really good. We ordered "salmon sashimi", "Treasure Island Roll", Green Dragon Roll", "Go Train Roll" which were served in a sushi boat. We also ordered "Kiss ME Roll" and Shrimp Tempura. The rolls were made of fresh ingredients and tasted really good. The only drawback was upon our arrival; Nobody was at the front door/patio to guide us and we went inside and talked to the chef and let them know we're taking the patio seat. Then, it took them a bit to come out and give us the menu. Other than that, the waiting staff was very friendly and helpful when she showed up. read more

Stay away from this restaurant. There are many better Japanese restaurants in the general area. This place may be 'authentic' Japanese, but it represents the very worst in food quality, food election and service. The waitress who served us was virtually incomprehensible - as especially being extremely tardy and rude. When I personally asked her for the check ("May I have the check please"), she eventually returned 30 minutes later and presented the bill to my wife! Later, the next day, when I phoned Mikado to explain my dissatisfaction, I spoke to this waitress. She explained (incredibly!), "I thought you were married to your companion so I assumed that your wife would handle the payment" . In and of itself, this is a relatively minor fauxpas : the real issues were very poor quality food and terrible service. read more

On our way to Niagara Falls, my husband and I stopped by Burlington for a late lunch. We happen to park across from the restaurant so it was a quick decision to eat here. At 4 pm, the restaurant was completely empty. Not a surprise since it's not exactly normal lunch hours. But a few people came by to pick up food to go during our meal. We were seated at the cozy table near the window. Since its cold, I ordered the tempura udon to stay warm. The hubby ordered the tempura teriyaki lunch special. When our dishes came out, we were surprised at the portion. I'm used to a bowl of udon with two pieces of tempura thrown into the bowl. Here, they served the tempura on a separate plate and there was a lot of it too! I was satisfied with this big meal keeping me full and warm. As for the hubby's chicken, it was not as moist as teriyaki chicken should be, but it wasn't bad. Overall, service was good and price was very reasonable for the portion. First time my friends n i ate in this restaurant. First impression, the place was small but for some reason u feel like ur in japan.. I guess because of how they arrange the place with pretty japan theme.. I love seeing those umbrellas hanging.. They look so pretty.. The ambiance was great too, not too bz place and u can really relax while ur eating. The background music was soothing, melow and updated.. They play jazzy music. Its really nice.. Food: ooohh foooood.. WE LOVE IT!! The way they make their sushi, hmmm yuummyy.. Omg!! Every bite was so tasty.. Everyone should try CRUNCHY ROLLS SUSHI, is to die for!!! We had to order twice because it was so good. We wanted to order more, but we're already full. Definitely we're coming back n we'll try the other menu they have next time.. We thought we'd try a new AYCE sushi place as we normally prefer August 8 and the Google reviews for this place was slightly better. What a disappointment :( First of all, they put us in a cramped room where everyone's chairs were right up against the wall. My husband (6'1) would bump his head against the bulkhead. The walls were FILTHY and one of the chairs were WET, leaving one of my guests pants WET after sitting down!! Could not believe it. They claim to have the freshest fish but this was definitely not the case. The sashimi was warm/room temperature and did NOT taste or look very fresh. Their rolls were the only impressive thing in that they were very large. The server was patient and friendly. That's it. I have no more good things to say about this place. We left feeling pretty bummed out with a meal that was not worth the price. Oh yeah, and the room smelled like bathroom. read more

Tonight was our first time here. I'd definitely return! The decor is dated and the table was sticky. However, the gentleman running it was exceptionally pleasant and the food was absolutely delicious. The restaurant seemed clean and had a nice atmosphere. There were two of us and he brought one miso soup and one salad to the table. It would've been nice to each get a miso soup and not have to share it. We ordered seafood udon. The seafood was a little rubbery but the dish was tasty. The sushi that we ordered was definitely the star of the show. We got spicy scallop and spicy salmon, Hawaiian roll, negi maki and salmon avocado roll. All seriously delicious! I would definitely come back and eat here again! read more

Quaint & cute little Japanese reataurant nestled in Village Square in downtown Burlington. I had been having a HORRIBLE sushi craving which had to be taken care of immediately, & luckily there was Mikado. It's small in size, however the outdoor seating makes it more accommodating IMHO & like a true Japanese staendard restaurants, they keep theirs very clean, the noise level is moderate to really none allowing one to enjoy not only the food but the ambience. To satisfy both my craving and small appetite for a meal that night I went for a spicy tuna. Tuna was fresh and the rice wasn't overpowering at all like some sushi can be. This place is great! Not sure why it's getting 3 stars, but even reading the 3-star reviews they seem very positive. I've come here I think 5 times in the last 3 years, and I really enjoy it. I've only tried the dragon roll (very good!!) and a couple of the other kinds. The fish in their sushi is a generous portion, unlike some places I've been to which have way more rice than there needs to be. They also have great miso soup, and a lovely garden salad. I don't think the prices are outrageous, you can eat well for under $20 a person, depending how hungry you are. I highly recommend this place if you're in the downtown area, however I should note that there's pretty much no other sushi place other than August 8 (Brant and Fairview) in the surrounding area. read more

Located at Burlington's Village square this cute little Japanese restaurant is a one of the few sushi places around down-town core. The staff are the friendliest I've ever met anywhere. The food is good but has room for improvement. The spicy rolls are my favourite but you cannot have more than a few as they are very filling (maybe too greasy), but taste amazing. I love Mikado. Four years ago, I had to work in Burlington for about three months and would literally have lunch and dinner here every single day. The owners were super nice. On my birthday, they even made me a sushi birthday cake and wrote "Happy Birthday Helen" on it in spicy mayo, my favourite sauce. All their ingredients are fresh and fabulously presented. I honestly eat here and my tastebuds are stimulated; I feel full from the portions and so healthy after my meals here. The prices are also very reasonable for such high quality sushi. I have had nothing at Mikado that I wasn't delighted with. In fact, I took my mom here (she is not a fan of sushi at all) and she LOVED it. Each time we head to Niagara Falls, she insists we make a stop at Mikado, then to Kelly's for their dolce du leche cupcake. Staff are extremely friendly. My fave dishes here are the Nabe Udon, the Avocado salad (they use homemade Japanese ginger dressing that is mouth watering) and the Green Dragon roll. Take out service is good, not always on time but I've never left disappointed and they have always thrown in a little something extra. Disappointing. First of all, I believe this Japanese restaurant is ran by Koreans. Don't get me wrong, I love Korean food I just prefer my food to be authentically prepared. Second, The food doesn't come close to what I'm expecting from Burlington Downtown restaurants. It's not that the food is terrible or anything, it's just that I expected more from this place. For the price you are paying, I don't think it's worth it there are much better Japanese restaurants out there. I checked out this place solo on a very late Sunday night. Basically 30 min before closing time. They were very nice. Menu was quite pricey, but I thought since it was dinner it was pricier. I ordered Bulgoki and a Crunchy Roll. I've had crunchy rolls before and they used to be on the small side, so I didn't think much of it when ordering all this food. When the food came, the waitress was a bit worried that it might be a bit too much food. NOT a meal for only 1 person. I ate the gigantic crunchy roll first and took the bulgoki as left over. Kept it in the fridge, ate it two days later and was still amazing. Positive: Taste was amazing. The crunchy roll was sooooo good. Bulgoki was exactly as I make it at home. Service was good, although I wish they had told me how big the portions were when I was ordering instead of saying "That's a lot of food" after they brough it all. Portions big, which make up for the high price. Negatives: Menu needs pictures of food. This had nothing in it. Definitely going back when I am in Burlington again. I came here with a friend who insisted it was worth the trip out to Burlington. I tried the salmon sushi pizza, the spicy salmon roll, the black dragon, and the chef's roll. All of them were decently good, they satisfied a sushi hankering no doubt, but they weren't amazing. The two spicy salmon items were made with chopped salmon (I tend to only see this at ayce restaurants and I don't prefer it) and the eel was very fatty/rubbery. Would I go again? Probably. First impression upon walking in was an unpleasant odour. Not sure what it was but it reminded me of old wasabi mixed with urinal pucks. The restaurant itself was a bit tired looking, the upholstery on the chairs worn and faded. The walls/surfaces were clean though which is a plus. I did notice they had a small problem with fruit flies and they were keeping the soya sauce off the tables due to the fly issue. The menu was a fairly extensive affair, lots to choose from and some of their own creations for custom maki. For lunch I had their tempura and sashimi dinner with a side a la carte order of Toro sashimi(wanted Otoro but they didn't have it). Food came out at a decent pace, salad was fresh and soup was tasty. The tempura was decent and given how humid it was, surprisingly crisp. The shrimp was a bit mushy tho which was disappointing. As for the fish, it was the standard hamachi, tuna and salmon sashimi we get in Ontario all the time. Fresh out of the refrigerator so it was rather cold, I left it to warm to room a bit. Quality was ok but tuna looked/tasted not as fresh when it had warmed up. Same with the toro a la carte. Overall I would say it was a very serviceable meal but it can be better as there are many other choices in Burlington now. read more

This is located in a nice area with a good patio. I went in before the dinner rush and had a friend greeting. I ordered a few special roles and the presentation was very nice. They asked how was the meal. Although the role tasted good the special rolls were more like the basic Maki rolls. Overall a good place but nothing special to get 4 stars. read more

I've came across this place since 2011 and this place has been one of my favorite restaurants to visit in Burlington. This place is not so big and the atmosphere is also very comfortable and cozy with a few amazing decorative umbrellas hanging on the walls and warm candles. Also, their music was very accommodating and made the place even more attractive. Yesterday i went to this place with my three other friends for celebrating their anniversary together. We ordered a bunch of their 'special' rolls to share and each of us ordered their 'warm' foods along with some Japanese beers. The food was prepared readily quick and the service was amazing. They provided us vanilla ice cream as a desert at the end. Sushi was at its best quality and teriyaki was also sizzling and looked mouth watering when it came out. Of course it tasted amazing even better than the ones i had in Tokyo. i really recommand stopping by this place as it can give you a sense of what authentic Japanese foods are. I had hawaiian rolls, philadelphia rolls, kiss me rolls, french kiss rolls, steak teriyaki, and some a la carte sushi (hamach sushi was my favorite).
