Mike Lanahan is amazing! He teaches everything you need to know about tennis. It doesn't matter your level or previous skillset. He teaches you the mechanics so that your swing is perfect. He also goes at your speed. You can do either group lessons or one on one lessons. I have been doing the private lessons, and I look forward to continuing. I take lessons with him at Westside Terrace club. He heads up the Pro Shop there. His lessons are VERY affordable, and he provides everything you need. I would highly recommend him for tennis lessons. He is is a member of the U.S. Professional Tennis Association, and he is a former Area Training Center Coach for the SoCal section of the National Team, and the private coach of six National Junior Champions. I have just started playing tennis and Mike is an excellent instructor. He is patient and moves you through the process with ease. I have taken lessons from other instructors in the past and have left feeling as if I have not accomplished anything. With Mike, I am improving faster than I thought I would. Man I really loved working with Mike. He has been doing this for a long time and has tennis instruction down to a science. I really appreciated his sense of humor even while working with us more world-weary adults. I sadly had to move to a different part of town and could no longer continue taking Mike's lessons, but I would go back in a heartbeat if it was geographically feasible. I've been playing tennis for several years but only recently decided to take some lessons. I found Mike through Yelp and after a couple of lessons realized that I should have done this a long time ago. Mike identified areas that needed work (topspin backhand, slice serve etc) in the first lesson and went to work on correcting my form in the next. I'm doing one hour private lessons and you can get a huge amount accomplished when you are doing very focused drills. I suddenly feel like I've only scratched the surface of the game after all these years. Mike is calm, patient and focused on improving your game. He is also very reasonably priced. read more

My 6 year old son is taking small group tennis lessons with Coach Mike. MIke is patient, attentive, and good with kids. And his rates are very, very reasonable. We've tried Westside Tennis, as well as Santa Monica, and my son seems to be learning the most here. He has taken my game from lobbing balls across the fence to playing like a real tennis player. I've been taken lessons for about 8 months now and I honestly cannot believe how well I'm doing. My husband and I are serious tennis enthusiasts. We love tennis so much our son has been on the court hitting balls with us ever since he was 2 years old and shorter than the net. It wasn't until we met Mike Lanahan, tennis instructor extraordinaire, that we realized we didn't have the knowledge or experience to teach our child even the most basic ground strokes properly. Our son started taking group lessons with Mike at the age of 5, with two of his classmates. Mike's technical and instructional tips are simple and clear; his lessons are structured, well-paced, and fun. He is also one of the most patient people we know. Mike is a very patient teacher. My daughter was struggling with hand eye coordination and had a very hard time making contact with the ball and working her way around the court. After a few weeks working with Coach Mike, she is doing so much better and more importantly - she's having fun. I've even noticed some improvement in her speed and pivoting on the soccer field.
