He asked me what I thought was a fair price for the service and I named an amount that was in line with the typical prices I found during my internet searches. Without argument he agreed immediately and refunded me everything over that amount. A very substantial refund. Brandon was very nice and very helpful. I was quoted about $900 for something that even the most expensive companies charge $300 for. When I asked why the quote was so high ( I had used Roto-Rooter previously for the same issue at a different residence) I was told because they don't "specialize in plumbing". The company van we were standing in front of had plumbing in big black letters directly at the top. I decided against their high quote and was still out of $100 for them coming out to give me an estimate which made it all feel like a scam. The technician was pretty nice but I do not recommend Mike Williams. I gladly payed the $300 for Roto-Rooter to come out. read more

Don't be scammed, look for another company that gives you a fair price for an honest job This is the worst pluming company I have dealt with in my 30+ years of living in the Champaign, Urbana area. I called this company for a water leak in a bathroom. They send their Bloomington plumber who came in late with no moisture sensor. His suggestion was for me to tear the floor and find the source of the leak. So I did that and found that the source of the leak is a pinhole in a copper pipe in a very easy to reach area. I called to have the same guy come in and fix the leak. He looked at the problem, then went to his truck for nearly 30 minutes to come up with the cost of the repair. To my horror, his estimate for installing two 1.0 ft pieces of copper pipe 1/2" and ¾", four joints, and a T fittings was $1,536.00 (see the invoice). Yes, one thousand five hundred and thirty six dollars. The job would have taken an honest plumber about one hour. Total cost of the parts at a local hardware store is less than $30.00. The first visit and the work were done during week days at normal work hours. His response to this ridiculous charge is "in a real world this is a very high charge." My recommendation to any of you not to call this company. What they will tell you is they charge $99.00 to send someone to look and the problem, but they charge by the job not by the hour. In my case, it would have taken about an hour to do the job, but that did not count since their motto is to rob you during daylight and much more at off hours. Also, do not fall for their membership fee scheme that gives you a discount. My job would still have cost $1,230.00. I am submitting this review on their website as well that claims a five star reviews. I am certain they will not publish it and very likely they did they publish other negative reviews (so much for honesty.) Rating on Yelp put this company's services as very poor at a 1 star. read more

This company is THE worst in customer service and follow thru. I've been waiting on them to.order a part that took 2 visits prior to the last visit March 8th, 2022 when I was told it needed a part. The furnace was not put together correct does not even hold the correct filter. They had to make do with an alternative. I had a tenant get home from work at midnight to no hot water. There had been a strong storm that day and I thought maybe the pilot got blown out by a down draft or something storm related. I went over and tried to relight it. It would burn for a few seconds before going back out. The "youtube diagnosis" for this issue is its most likely a bad thermocouple. This is a simple and cheap ($7) part. I told her I'd be back in the morning with a new one and get it installed. I returned the next day and put the new part on, but it still did not work. After checking and double checking my work, I moved on to accepting the thermocouple must not have been the issue. The next item in line would be the gas control valve on the front of the heater. This is a $60 part that I could also change myself in about a half an hour. However, the last time I took the burner apart to double check the thermocouple, I bent and broke the pilot light tube. This is a simple little part, but I didn't have time to run across town for the part before work. So I started calling plumbers to just get it fixed and be done with it. I figured I was now going to need two parts totaling about $80-100 plus whatever the plumber would charge for labor. I knew realistically I'd be paying close to $200, if not more, but my renter needed hot water so I wanted it done. I called several places just off a quick google search and everyone was booked up besides an after hours emergency call that would require an almost $300 show up charge. Then I got to Mike Williams. They said they would have to charge the emergency charge to make it the same day, but had a slot open first thing in the morning. I accepted the morning slot. I made sure to explain what I had diagnosed to be wrong and that it was less than $100 in parts. The call taker told me the plumber would be able to verify the issue in the morning and have an exact price for the repair before doing the work. The next morning I got a call that he would be there at 9:00 a.m. By approximately 9:20 a.m., I got a second call by the plumber that he had diagnosed the problem and needed the go ahead to fix it. He said the gas valve was bad, which is what I had told them I thought it was the night before. I asked the cost to fix it. He told me he would recommend I have the entire water heater replaced, because it was ten years old. It is true that I could buy a new water heater from Menards for around $385, but then I would also be paying several hours of labor, and I called him to fix a $60 part that should take only several minutes for a plumber. He then told me the cost for him to obtain and install a new water heater if I chose that route: $2152.00. Which was for a water heater with a 1 year warranty. He quoted a 6 year warranty water heater, which would be on par with what I had already, at $2641.00. The 6 year 40 gallon water heaters are less than $400 total, but somehow would drive the Mike Williams price up by $500 over a cheaper water heater. This didn't matter because I'd never pay them even the lower amount he quoted for a simple water heater job. The water heater is even in a convenient spot right inside the back door with a driveway. No basement, no stairs, no tight spaces. I told him I just wanted him to fix what I asked him to fix. He said the price to do that would be...$1156.00. I said $11.56? He said, No, $1156.00. This is to put on a $60 part that requires disconnecting 4 nuts, and a push connect wire. His labor hours would be 2 at most if he rounds up. So does he make over $500/hr? I asked him how he could justify that price for the work he was going to do. He could and would only state their company uses Flat Rate Pricing. He could give me no other explanation or reasoning for it except to repeat that each time. So companies use flat rate pricing when they do lots of jobs with lots of different skill set employees and need a more steamlined way to calculate invoicing. So they make a book and decide what each job should take based on parts and labor time. You basically get an average cost of the job at a flat rate instead of saying it took me using this part and this many hours so your cost is this. They just use a formula up front. They must have calculated their formulas on the absolute worst scenarios for the flat rate price they came up with. I'm running out of space for my review so I'll wrap it up. I told them no way. I called a friend (who is an expert) and he left work to come take a look. The broken part was actually a safety switch in the heater that cuts off air if it trips so the pilot burns out. Not the part Mike Williams said it was. (Also MW didn't notice the pilot tube I broke which should have been obvious) I decided to cut my losses, bought a new water heater, and installed it myself in 3 hours. Total cost $400. There is no need to even consider this company. They are completely dishonest and use predatory practices on those who are not knowledgeable or just want to get their ac/furnace fixed asap. A friend of mine had them install a new ac and furnace a few years ago and they've needed repairs a dozen times since it was installed. I told them I'd be there when Mike Williams came and soon realized that they were lying through their teeth. They said the problem was a leak, that new refrigerant was needed, and that they needed to clean the outside unit. First of all, none of those issues were actually the problem. The blower motor was not working and the capacitor and contactor had gone bad... none of which two different Mike Williams service people reported. They quoted prices that were about $200-$500 higher than 5 different companies I called for services that weren't even necessary to fix the actual issues. Do your research before saying yes to anything. A 410A refrigerant fill is about $40-$50 per pound and ac units would need to refill somewhere between 3-7 pounds, which means around $315 for a fill even on the high end. Mike Williams quoted $825 for the fill. Other companies quoted cleaning costs to be $20-$100 depending on severity. Mike Williams quoted $300. And of course, they wanted us to sign a contract for a "monthly membership" that would lower the price (and is still higher than competitors by $150-$400)... which others have said is difficult to get out of. All you have to do is search here on Yelp or Google and you will find a ton of other places that actually have a reputation for honest work. Absolutely disgusting. Fast turnaround visit cost $69 to get them to leave. For my minor kitchen sink repair and connecting new dishwasher with all parts provided, their cost was over $1,700. I paid the go away fee of $69. When I had the job done by a reliable service company the final charge was $150. read more

On September 28, Mike Williams replaced a hot water heater in a rental of mine. I have never used them before. They took all day to do the work. Turned off the gas to the furnace and never turned it back on, so I had to pay for an additional service from another company to turn the gas on. They signed me up for a service plan without my permission. They would not refund the 2 months that was already charged. All in all a bad company to deal with. I will never use them again. read more

In addition to this quote they also quoted us no less than $400 to clear the drain. The plumber that arrived then told me that he could not give me an estimate immediately but would get me an estimate no later than the next morning. I had not heard anything by the next afternoon, so I called to check and was told that they would not be taking the job at all. I will never call this plumber for anything ever again. Their slogan is cleaner and faster, but should include more expensive by far. We had a small gas leak in the garage. Their quote was $69 for the service call and $700+ for the repairs. They were unable to tell me the costs of parts vs labor. We called another company and they completed the work for under $300. And DON'T ever sign their contract. You end up paying a monthly rate and getting nothing in return and it is almost impossible to get out of. I faxed my signed cancellation and have the fax confirmation yet they say they didn't receive it and required me to send another. Even when they came and checked my furnace for winter and found it to be in good working order they wanted to fix something that "wasn't broken yet" but "could break some day". Their goal is to up sell on everything whether you need it or not. I consider this company to be untrustworthy and they will not receive my business in the future. read more

I've given this company multiple chances, now I'm reporting them. They have a "subscription" service which charges a monthly fee. I cancelled their service in person in April 2017 by turning in a signed form with the service person on site. They continued to charge me. I called and complained. They said I had to turn in ANOTHER signed form, then they would cancel and refund the charges since April. They supposedly processed the cancellation. I received and cashed the refund check in July 2017. It's August, I'm reviewing my account online, and I see they have continued to charge me for their service. I SOLD THE HOUSE. I LIVE IN ANOTHER STATE NOW. There is no way they have continued to provide me with any service. So now I"m in voicemail hell, attempting to get anyone to take accountability for this and fix my account. I'm furious and I would advise no one to use this service. read more

Please be aware!! Mike William has thieves. Approximately $20,000 of my jewelry are missing, and their employees were the only people who were in and out of my house. My heater broke earlier this year. One of their employees from Mike Williams came to my house to take a look and gave me a quote. Because my husband and I have to work, it was very difficult to coordinate the date to replace the heater. The person who gave me the quote recommended that we still can go to work. We just need to open the door for them in the morning, and they can call us to come back to lock the house once the job is completed. This person ensured me that all of their employees pass the background checks, and they are a safe, reputable company, and I can totally trust them to do the job. My heating unit is in the basement, and I keep all my jewelry and important documents in the basement. However, none of my jewelry was exposed, they were hidden away in a closet, and I have my jewelry separated in several bags inside a big backpack. They really are professional thieves. They did not steal the entire backpack; they took one of the bags inside the backpack that contained heirloom pieces and several 24 karat gold chains plus a very substantial piece of solid 24 karat gold heart-shape pendant. Because only one bag inside my backpack was stolen, I did not realize the bag was missing until 2 months later when I want to wear that 24-karat gold neckless with pendant for a trip to Los Angles. Mike William was extremely unhelpful and even outright hostile when I contacted them regarding the missing jewelry. With my first call, I wanted to speak to the manager of Springfield or the owner of the company, but the phone receptionist, Emily, would not transfer the call. Emily told me that someone would call me later. I waited the whole day, and on one had contacted me, so I called the next day. Well, it was Emily again, and her attitude has changed. She was impatient and hostile on the phone with me. When I asked her again to transfer my call to the manager, she sent me to a voicemail of a customer representative named Josh. I left a voice message, but still, no one from Mike Williams has contacted me. This "customer representative" does not provide customer protection nor a timely solution to problems. I feel very helplessness. I probably will not get my stolen jewelry back at this point. The reason for this posting is that I don't want this happened to anyone else. Mike Williams should know how many workers were in my house to fix the heating unit. It is not difficult to do an internal investigation and find out who took the jewelry because the person or persons would have a sudden increase in cash flow and probably behavioral changes. It is obvious that Mike Williams does not value their customers. Please be careful when hiring Mike William for any services. Their guarantees of safety mean NOTHING!! My husband contacted Mike Williams Plumbing to repair our sump pump pipe. They had a technician come out who ended up quoting replacing our entire sump pump system. The quote was astronomical, which I find funny considering we were able to replace the pump on our own for about $200. I did have them fix the leak in the pipe, which they charged more for than what I paid for the sump pump we installed ourselves. Now, come to find out, they've signed us up for a service program with a monthly fee that comes straight out of our account. I have called to cancel whatever it is I am signed up for and am hopeful that I will hear back today to get this canceled. The only reason I am giving them two stars is because they were able to come to our house the same day to fix the leak we were experiencing from our sump pump pipe. read more

I needed help with my main sewer line backing up, so I called Mike Williams, it was after hours and on a weekend so I accepted their high fee of $149.95 just to come out to the property. Before they took a look at the situation I was presented with an "upfront pricing" to sign, this included a warranty for one year. I needed the work done so I didn't think anything of it especially since it stated a guarantee to fix my issue, plus come out a few more times to check that the plumbing was clear and working properly. AND on top of that, maintenance my water heater and furnace. First tech couldn't clear it with a 75 ft auger. Was told a second tech would come out to fix the issue, and all he did was show up with a camera feed that only went as far as 30 ft. I was then presented with yet another contract to sign, had a choice of three different quotes starting at $7,000 to as much as $17,000. They wanted to dig up my front yard to replace the sewer line because they couldn't fix it otherwise. So a small job now turned into a huge job. I refused to sign until I spoke with the city since 75 ft is off of my property and into the main city line. Well, the city snubbed me so I was forced to call another plumber. Roto Rooter came out for FREE, fixed the problem in less than 20 min with a hydro jet and charged under $400. Plus they guarantee it for two years and come out at no additional charge if I have any issues. AND they fixed the guts in my toilet just because. Now THAT is how a company should treat their customers. Kind, fair, courteous and diligent. Thank you, Roto Rooter. As far as Mike Williams, I am still dealing with them. Spoke to two different managers who sounded as if they were reading from a script, giving me exactly the same spiel and not listening to what I was really saying. This is a predatory and sloppy plumber. I called Mike Williams on an emergency kitchen sink leak as I did not think I could wait for my regular plumber to respond. They fixed the kitchen sink leak adequately. However, I had them check a dripping faucet in a bathroom as well, which should have been simple. But they left a mess there. They did not check their work and the faucet did not even flow straight afterwards. Worse, their work loosened a part under the sink so that it flooded underneath. Needless to say, I had my regular plumber fix that, as I did not want Mike Williams back. They also tried to talk me into doing additional work on a toilet, which was never a concern. The worst thing was their rip off monthly service charge which they extract instead of just having a fair one-time price. I have had to diligently check off the six months elapsing on my credit card before I could cancel the service. I am expecting a fight on that too. My advice to Mike Williams is to quit the predatory practices and clean up your act! read more

NEVER USE THIS COMPANY. Called for a plumber, they sent a sales person that automatically said we didn't have enough vents, did not even go on the roof or in the back yard to look. The second guy that was sent to look in the sewer drain was also a sales person and couldn't see anything and didn't understand why our toilets weren't flushing properly. He then had to call a 3rd person, which was an actual plumber this time, to put the toilet back on. They all leave with having accomplished nothing, after 6 hours. That next morning sewage backs up into all of tubs and showers and onto the floors. According to an actual plumber, the cause was very common and this so called plumbing company is beyond ignorant. Not only did they not know what was wrong, they then caused the sewage and damage to our home. Mike Williams then called in a disaster company to clean up. They cleaned and ripped out carpet. Mike Williams then decided it wasn't their fault and stopped paying. Now our house is destroyed and they are not "dealing" with us. If they didn't cause it why did they have the clean up company come out and have it billed directly to them? They are not plumbers. Our furnace went out in this cold and we called Mike Williams because they were the only people that could come out. They put a new fix in and about 5 minutes later before the guy even left the furnace gave out again. Charged us over $600. He told us that what actually needed to be fixed was going to cost about $700-$800 and it would be better to just get a new furnace. A couple hours later another man came out to give us a quote and said on the low end it would be $5,000-$7,000. NO WAY....we have a small house. We called our regular guy who came in the next day and immediately found the real problem and fixed it and only charged us $400. So I basically wasted over $600 for them to not fix the problem and have them try and sell me something I didn't need. NO WAY will I ever use them again. I have heard horror stories from so many people now about them. They are a terrible company who try and scam people already in a bad situation. read more

$822.20 for two leaky faucets and a toilet that needed a snake. took about half an hour. from the quote, i figured they'd be at it a day or two. they guarantee customer satisfaction. well, i'm not satisfied. i complained, but all the public relations gal wanted to do was argue me out of my position. feeling i was being manipulated, i said, "it's too high, end of story," and ended the call. i later got a card insuring me they wanted customers to be pleased. so i called again. the next day i got a call back, the same gal says, "you hung up on me." yes, i did, i was through feeling manipulated by her. i thought from the advertising that they were local. seeing they'd been in business since 1976, i felt they had to be good. but the cost! maybe it's because they're union and a national company. boy, never again. 15 days later : the toilet works so-so, but i'm not caliing them to fix it. my bank statement today shows that Mike Williams took $8.25 from my account. i paid them in full when the work was done, there is no reason for them to do this. but in looking at the agreement i signed, one sentence says, "I authorize my credit card or bank account to be automatically charged monthly." One assumes this would be for someone who couldn't pay in full at the time of service. I owe them nothing, however. I called my bank and stopped future payments and am going to see them tomorrow. if i can't get satisfaction, i will contact my attorney. this is outrageous read more
