I am amazed by Mike. I wanted a custom cake to represent three milestone birthdays and Mike asked what was special to each of us. He was patient when I changed the design a few times and he was very accommodating when I added a second cake a few weeks before the event. The best part, not only were the cakes amazing, but they tasted fantastic. So moist and full of flavor. We had chocolate cake with Baileys frosting and Marble cake with peanut butter frosting. Everyone at the party couldn't believe they were all cake, no filler, no styrofoam! I would hire Mike again in a heartbeat. read more

For my dad's 70th birthday we surprised him with a cake, a replica of Tempest, his original hydro. My mom and I pieced together black and white photos of parts of Tempest. I chose coconut cake with key lime filling, and my husband chose spice cake with cream cheese mousse. Both were to die for! People complimented how beautiful our cake was, but they also mentioned how delicious it was. It actually was all eaten quite quickly, and we bought cake for more than the number of guests! The first was a 10" printed cake for my husband's 30th birthday. He is car guy so we surprised him with a picture of him driving his car printed on the cake. Theresa was very responsive to my emails to finalize the details of the design. I requested a banner on the cake and the end result perfectly matched the aesthetics! At the birthday party, everyone enjoyed and complimented the double chocolate cake. The second order from Mike's was our wedding cake. Originally we planned a 3-tier cake made with white pleated buttercream with marble cake and chocolate filling. At our appointment, Theresa was very helpful with determining the size of cake we needed to match our guest count. However, once the pandemic hit, which changed with our wedding plans, Mike's was willing to modify our order to a 6" single tier 4.5" tall cake for our wedding photo session. He called a week in advance to confirm our order and was very fast to answer questions I had by email. Pick up was easy and the cake held it's shape in the warm weather outside for a couple of hours. We had heard wonderful things about his cakes and loved the level of time and detail he put into them by looking at all the online photos of his work. So we placed an order and were blown away by how incredibly detailed the cake was and how wonderful it tasted. Everyone at the party went back for 2nd & 3rd helpings (everyone wanted to try the 3 different flavored tiers!) Our daughter's party room was filled with Oohs and Ahhs! Working with the team to design the cake was an awesome experience. I provided them with my vision and a couple of photo examples and they were able to puzzle piece the cake I had envisioned together based on that. The price was a bit more than I had budgeted, but the finished results and the look on everyone's face when we brought the cake out and the pure joy on their faces when they took their first bites was worth every penny. Our daughter's 1st birthday cake will go down as one of the most amazing birthday cakes on record among our little social circle of friends and family. Recently ordered a cake and while we received the cake that we ordered (although they did make one small mistake on decorations) it tasted horrible. The cake was very dry and the buttercream frosting lacked flavor and tasted like a lot of butter was put on your dry cake. The cake was fun to look at but for the pricing which equals about $10/slice it didn't taste good and the decorations were simple. The fondant topping doesn't take like much either. They also only provide a very narrow window for cake pickup. I think Mike's Amazing Cakes has a lot of skill so I don't know why they can't make a better tasting cake. read more

It was also a big reason my 91 year old mother-in-law (bride's grandmother) made the trek for such a long day. She loves cake! The cake was vanilla with orange and peach schnapps filling. The stargazer lilies were handmade with sugar and exquisite. Just as my daughter envisioned. Stargazers are her absolute favorite, so she would know about detail. The only reason I am giving them the 2 stars is because I have gotten cakes from them in the past that were fun and my guests always liked them. However, my latest experience has been a totally different story. I emailed them back and forth about a cake for friend's birthday. They asked how much I wanted to spend (which is weird - I am not a baker, how should I know how much a cake would cost for 30 people?). I heard nothing back. I called and was told I would get the confirmation soon. Still nothing. I tried to call and email a few more times. No response. This leads me to believe if your cake order isn't big enough $500+ they won't work with you. I wish they would've just said this to begin with. Would've saved me time - time I could've spent planning with another baker to get a cake I wanted to have for my friend's party. I was able to get a cake someplace else - from a more professional bakery, but with such short notice it wasn't exactly as we wanted it. My advice: skip them and work with a baker who is not over hyped. You will be treated respectfully- not like they are doing you a favor. read more

DISAPPOINTED! I am returning customer after having my 18th birthday cake done here 8 years ago. The cake tasted wonderful, was beautifully constructed and the customer service was GREAT. Can't say I had the same experience when I came back for my wedding cake. Strike 1: Took me AT LEAST! 10 attempts to get ahold of them. I had sent in requests on the website and never received any emails back. Called the office, no answer. It wasn't about 4 weeks after my initial email that they finally emailed me back. I received an impersonal and very short email from Mike. At no point did he ask me if I wanted a consultation; I had to request that on my own. I was told to call the office, which I did, no one answered of course, so I left a voicemail. Took 1 week for them to call me back. Strike 2: Got there and the receptionist was not prepared for us. She said, "let me check to see if there is any cake for you to taste". Immediately my fiance and I was turned off. After coming back into the room and mumbling to herself that there is no cake she sat down and began the consultation. Strike 3: Consultation lasted 15 minutes MAX. This is the 4th cake consultation I've been to and ALL have been well over 45 minutes with cake tasting and a personal design session w/ the owners. OVERALL: VERY disappointed! Seems to me that Mikes Amazing Cakes took the 5 star ratings and ran. Time and time again I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but they kept disappointing me. Sad read more

Had the same problem as another reviewer. I asked for a cake and a quote- they asked me how much I wanted to spend and I had no idea what cakes cost. They said they'd get back to me with some ideas. After two weeks of emailing "Theresa" and receiving no response I'm left without a cake for a company event. My mistake for not immediately contacting another baker but I'd expect more from these guys- or anyone in business. Hint: If they tell you they'll get right back to you and then they don't respond with 24 hours start looking for another baker. They'll ignore you completely. read more

We decided to do two flavors, red velvet with cream cheese frosting on the top and bottom tier and carrot cake with cream cheese frosting for the middle tier. Both flavors were absolutely delicious, but I am a hardcore carrot cake fan so that was my favorite. They made the cake tasting so easy to schedule and were so flexible with our times. I really want to give 2.5 but I'll give them 3 b/c at least the cake tasted good. I went to them to order my wedding cake. We love Snoopy and had found a picture of what we wanted on the Internet. I wanted it done pretty much exactly the same as the picture - the first tier. The only difference was the Snoopy's collar was a different color and I wanted a bow tie on the boy Snoopy. First, I make an appointment for the tasting. That was fine ... I showed her the picture, tasted the cakes, she took notes, ... I'm like okay. And the price is reasonable. So then I decide to go ahead w/ the order a few days later. There were many times I called with no one answering, and no one returning my calls. I emailed to find out what's going on. Then one time I finally got on the phone w/ her (she finally called me back) and one of us lost the connection - well she called from a Private number so I'm figuring she's the one who's going to call me back cos otherwise I have to go and look up her number. I wait like 10 minutes and she hasn't called me back.... so finally I look up the number, call back, and she's like oh I Thought you'd call me back. I'm like oook.... Anyway, fast forward and on the call I'm very specific that I want my cake to look EXACTLY like the picture, except for the details I mentioned. In the picture, it's obvious that the Snoopy's are part of the cake - as in they're made of Cake too. I figured no problem, Mike sculpts tons of cakes. And the standard frosting they give is a beige/off-white color so I am looking for an entirely beige/off-white cake including the Snoopys right. The day of my wedding... after the ceremony, as I walk in to the reception room .. I glance at the cake - and the Snoopy's are plastic! And they're a totally different shade of white than the rest of the cake. And the details in the flowers on the cake are also different. I get it - maybe there was a design change, or some thought that went in and they thought - the bride and groom want to keep the Snoopy topper that cost so much. I don't disagree but i'd loved to have had a heads up and maybe then I could have at least changed it so the color of the topper is the same shade as the cake. It just looked totally weird to me. Call me picky bride but when I pay for a cake to look exactly like the picture (and it was really simple honestly) then I want to get what I paid for. Oh, and one of the Snoopy's ears fell off at the end of the night.... So much for keeping that perfect wedding topper. They did my wedding cake and a grooms cake Pros: 1. Wedding cake was awesome, and they were the only shop willing to do the "8 bit" hearts on the cake for us. 3 of four layers tasted amazing, but no one was happy with the Red Velvet layer as it was very dry and crumbly. 2. They only charged $94.00 for the grooms cake because we got it and a wedding cake 3. They refunded us the cost of the grooms cake due to the mistake on it and due to the Red Velvet's lack of quality. 4. They were early delivering the cake, which was great because my husband-to-be didn't see his surprise grooms cake. Cons: 1. They screwed up the design on the grooms cake, which would be excusable, had I not handed them and emailed them copies of the design and when they asked for it again 3 days before the wedding, called them, explained it and emailed it again. The cake was supposed to be 2 tiers, with playing cards on it. Top tier : Jack and King card Lower tier: 2 "3" cards Bottom/leaning to side of cake: 4 Aces These specifications correlated to some inside jokes with my husband and his groomsmen. I explained this all to Mikes, and why it was so important, yet the cake arrived and the cards were just scattered around and frosted to the cake so they could not be moved. It was supposed to be a great surprise that to this day I feel really took away from how special it was. 2. The Red Velvet layer was really terrible, it tasted freezer burned, old, as though they used a long ago frozen cake and covered it with fresh frosting & fondant. And it was very dry and crumbly. Unfortunately, nobody replied to either phone messages or emails though I waited and contacted them periodically over a three week period. I did get one person on the phone once who confirmed they had availability for the date and size I was requesting and suggested I send another email. That was 5 days ago and still no answer. I would have appreciated a simple "too busy" or "what you want would cost 3x what you think" response but I guess they are busy enough not to need to talk with folks. I did say in my emails and my phone calls that I was badly out of touch with current prices and requested they let me know what a reasonable amount might be. It's possible they are having staffing issues like so many other places but if this continues, this amazing place will have little future business. read more

Over the years Mike has made me 3 cakes. All 3 delish! All 3 fun! My favorite cake in particular was fashioned after a bowl of Top Ramen Noodles. The story goes like this: My boss was turning 50. Rich as God but ate Top Ramen for lunch EVERYDAY! He wasn't being a tight wad he just loved the chicken sesame (they don't make it anymore and he will never forgive them). He loved Top Ramen so much that he saved a gazillion proof of purchases in order to get the special Ramen Bowl. So what do you get a guy like this for his birthday? A cake made to look like his favorite lunch! I took the birthday cake concept to Mike's Amazing Cakes including photo's of the special ramen bowl and several empty Sesame Chicken wrappers. They NAILED it! Best cake ever!! Tips: If you are unsure of what flavor to get ask for a tasting appt and bring a friend. When you are ready to order tell them what you want.
