I went to Hollywood Baked Goods on Wednesday specifically because they offer vegan options, and I was genuinely excited to try them. Unfortunately, the entire experience was extremely disappointing. When we asked what vegan options were available and how we could order a vegan cake, the employee who came out from the back was rude, dismissive, and seemed irritated that we were asking questions. Instead of taking a moment to explain the options or help us with the ordering process, she repeatedly told me, "Everything is online--go online." She wouldn't answer the questions I had and seemed more interested in rushing us out than helping a potential customer. Despite the uncomfortable interaction, we ordered a few items to try. Unfortunately, the baked goods were disappointing as well. They were extremely dry, and the frosting was overwhelmingly sweet. We ended up not enjoying them. I understand businesses get busy, and I don't expect anyone to spend an excessive amount of time with me. But when a customer walks into a bakery interested in ordering a cake, asking basic questions about vegan options and the ordering process shouldn't be treated like an inconvenience. I specifically sought out this bakery because finding places with vegan cakes and baked goods isn't always easy. They don't do refunds. Placed an order for cake samples. They accepted my order online and sent me an email asking me to pick up only to find that it wasn't actually ready. I had to take four giant "cake cups" instead of the samples and they were not worth the $40 I had originally paid. I may have to throw some out because their buttercream is far too sweet and the sponge is quite dry and the quantity is very large which is why I was reluctant to take home cake cups instead of samples in the first place. I would not recommend this place for important occasions- they literally lied to me- on email no less. read more

It wouldn't have mattered because they are mostly very good. I love supporting local small businesses so I was really happy I chose this bakery. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy any part of my experience. As I said, ordered through google and it ended up being doordash. Owner told me later they upcharge because DD charges 30%. Totally understandable and good to know buying in person for daily goods is better. But the person behind the counter asked me to pull up the order info through the app.... What app? She said it was called Good To Go or something? Which I couldn't find on the App Store. Either way, she kept telling me I had to select that I picked up the order for her to be able to give it to me... super confused. Then, the owner came out and realized it was through DD and got it out for me from the fridge. I told her I made a mistake with one of the flavors and asked if she could switch it, but she said no. Found that weird for a simple swap but whatever. Turned out they didn't have the one I meant to order available anyway. Finally, the cupcake I chose for myself out of 4 (salted caramel, golden cookies and cream and blueberry lemon were the 3 others) was the mint chocolate and I was so excited for it! Dude, it sucked. I'm sorry to be so harsh but it tasted like I got it from Safeway. The chocolate cake was soooo dry and crumbly, and the frosting was that cloyingly sweet granuley type. I wiped off all the frosting but then just had that dry cake. Not worth the calories. I have seen responses from the owner on other reviews that sweetness level is based on personal taste, which is completely true, and that these are American style cupcakes. My family just enjoyed this fabulous mermaid cake for my birthday weekend at the beach. We went with the vegan option since my husband (that poor soul) can't have dairy. The cake is absolutely perfect, and you'd never know it was vegan. We were all so impressed! Never even heard of this place until I saw them as an option in the "Too good to go" app. For those who are unfamiliar with this app, basically they partner with various of food vendors (bakeries, grocery stores, coffee shops, etc.) and these partners will sell their goods at a fraction of the price for food that they would've thrown out at the end of the day or it's the last "best by" date. Anyway, l was in the kirkland area and the app notified me this deal at Hollywood Baked Goods and thought I would give it a try. It's one of the worst boxes I have received. Not much variety and the sweet treats that were in the box were all Christmas themed so the food has to be at least two weeks old. I understand that i wouldn't be receiving the freshest batch, but come on, at least something that is a bit more recently made? Maybe the fresh products taste better, but based on what we got, snowman cake pops and cream cheese filled cookies dipped in chocolate were subpar in flavor. It just tasted sweet with no distinct flavors. Also, they are difficult to locate. Even with GPS, we drove right past their store. They really need a face-lift for their storefront. I've been itching to try HBG for sooo long. I've seen her stuff all over social media and on Yelp, and everything always looks great! I've had the pleasure of working with Holly professionally in the past, but I recently put an order in for something personal - my dad's birthday! His favorite bakery in Seattle has been closed since March due to COVID-19, so I decided it was time to try something new. Holly didn't have German Chocolate Cakes on the "menu" but she made it work for me! If you went to her and asked for it now, I'm sure she'd be more than happy to do it. Furthermore, she hadn't had German Chocolate really at ALL on the menu yet! She's had more and more people requesting it so it sounds like it might be a part of it soon. Placing the order was simple and for a super fair price (that I honestly expected to be more expensive). I had the chance to check out her storefront during pickup and it's super cute! Definitely something that is worthy of the 'gram and will be a fun spot for people to visit once tastings are part of a normal world again. Now, the cake itself! The cake was AMAZING! Incredibly moist (and I hateee that word), and suuuper rich. Definitely get yourself a glass of milk before indulging in this one. My boyfriend's favorite cake is carrot cake, and his birthday was this weekend, so I was researching the best bakeries around the area to find him some delicious carrot cake for his birthday treat. A couple of days ago, while conducting my research, I reached out to HBG via Yelp to ask about an order of carrot cake cupcakes to pick up today. Holly quickly replied and answered all my questions. I thought I would have to call or place an online order, but she said she would put my order aside for me to come and pick up whenever I was ready (how nice!!!). We stopped in today to grab our four carrot cake cupcakes, and our experience was amazing. I told the girl working I had messaged with Holly on Yelp and had an order put to the side for me. (When she brought the bag of our cupcakes out, my name was written on the bag, which for some reason made me feel really special??? Don't ask why, I don't know). We mentioned that we were picking up the cupcakes to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday, and she said, "oh, I have something for you!" She ran to the back and brought him out a birthday sticker! It was so random but made us smile. :) We each had a cupcake this evening with some vanilla Halo Top ice cream on the side (the vanilla flavor is actually really good). It was... indescribable. I'm not normally into cream cheese frosting, but it was perfect. The cake was moist and flavorful and had shredded carrots and GOLDEN RAISINS inside (I love raisins, so this made me very excited). I almost couldn't help myself and very seriously contemplated having another one, but we decided to finish the last two tomorrow. We have already deemed HBG as our "go-to" bakery from here on out. It is clear that the staff here actually cares about their work and their customers. I wish we had more special days coming up so we had an excuse to get some more treats! We ordered a dozen cupcakes for a mini baby shower we hosted this weekend. We got 6 lemon raspberry and 6 chocolate raspberry cupcakes. Picked them up at noon and refrigerated them until one hour before serving them in the evening as suggested by the owner. The cupcakes were extremely dry, both the varieties. Our guests felt the same and nobody wanted to have more after tasting a bite - yes they were that dry. The frosting was good, but that that doesn't help ! More than half the cupcakes were left over. Usually, I am happy to have sweet leftovers - more for me ;) , but this time around I'd rather just throw them away than put these in my belly. I got one of their Too Good to Go Boxes so it was day old. And I took that into consideration in their score. I got a snickerdoodle flavored cupcake that was fantastic. I would go back just for that as it was moist, flavorful and rich. The white cake with frosting on the other hand was dry and lacking in flavor.
