A really fine great-American Drive In. We enjoyed coming here when we lived in Portland 10 years ago and it has o ly gotten better! My wife ordered a mini Cheeseburger and a Huckleberry Shake and both were really extraordinary! The burger was "better than In-n-Out" according to my burger connoisseur wife, and the shake was unbelievably good. The service was prompt and they've expanded their outdoor dining area. I had been looking forward to trying them out for quite a few years. I am out and about a lot, but truly have to eat after a performance versus before. They close fairly early. I was at a theater seeing a play do a matinee performance. I thought this was a pretty opportune moment for me to get dinner afterwards... I should mention that I was headed to the symphony. I had been craving a hamburger for a few days. This seemed like such a perfect opportunity! I waited in the car, looking over the menu as there is no place to sit down and you walk up to a window to order. A few people ordered and I waited for a clear window. I had just got there and the guy had just asked me what I wanted. A woman had approached, and the guy literally shooed me aside. She was holding a sandwich with bite marks... saying that a grill cheese sandwich that was ordered was not acceptable, weirdly textured and seemed 'steamed'. She said they were in a hurry, she wanted a refund, and she did not have time to wait. Multiple people had to be called over. I was glad that the counter was empty because I could at least lean against the front. The temperature outside was dropping those so, FYI - your friends with chronic pain and/or inflammation like MS, lupus anything... rapid temperature drops or rains etc... we go into incapable of moving VERY fast. He was super apologetic by the time I got to the window. I ordered and it was pretty fast. I definitely appreciated being able to sit in my car right there. I was also very glad I got in when I did, because there was suddenly a line of people ordering as I had started eating my food! I had never had a hamburger before that had zero flavor... I ordered the mushroom swiss and there was not an ounce of seasoning which was pretty insane, because it looked amazing! Those sweet potato waffle fries are out of this world! Man, Mike's came back from that crash just to crash again. Place reopened like it had hype in its pen, but the magic's gone straight vanished in the wind. Prices jump at you like they're tryna fight, and the food? Lettuce rotten, meat lookin' wrong, like it lost that spark, that bite. Cherry Coke rollin' up with mystery floaters nah, that ain't right. The whole spot feels off, like they forgot what made people line up in the first place, night after night. The place was really busy on a sunny February at noon. But only two people were working there, and we had to wait over 30 minutes for our food (we were warned it would be 20 minutes or more). The burger and chicken sandwich were meh. Nothing special. Servings of fries and tots were generous, but they were lukewarm. We came here for the first time a few weeks ago and had a wonderful experience... Because of that nice experience we thought we would come back again today. We were so excited because there was no line and the parking lot was fairly empty. When we reached the window, the woman that was taking our order couldn't have been more rude! We hadn't even started to speak before she snapped at us and told us to wait until she was finished... Doing whatever it was... we then proceeded to order a dry burger add pickles, admittedly I'm not in the restaurant industry, so I'm unsure the best way to communicate that order but, it's not rocket science! Every time we tried to order something else we were met with a snarky and/or sarcastic comment includinh snapping at my y/o when he tried to order his own meal; which was so rude and offputting that it completely undid any of the good thoughts we had from our previous visit. It is incredibly difficult to justify spending $50+ for our family when we were being treated like absolute trash during the ordering process! The 10 inch hotdog here is way better than I was expecting. Definitely ten times better than 7/11 hotdogs. I always get the combo so I can get their amazing fries and a Coke Zero. In the area for a baseball game and drove by and decided to give it a try. My husband used to eat here when he used to work out here and said it used to be good. Food was good, loved the fries and the burger and the fact it came in a meal with cookies too and prices not bad at all! It was busy and the parking lot is small and a little chaotic but that's what happens I guess with good food! Extraordinarily classic but amazing drive in. It really is an ICON... kicking butt and taking names... I think there's more than one location (I think I'm oregon city) but I've only gone to the 1 near Milwaukee. Look just think tater tots, corn dogs, fried pickles, skinny fries, and fried mushrooms. At least those are my favorites. You can also get plank fries skinny fries hamburgers for anybody and everybody with any toppings or no toppings. There are seafood options including fried clams. You can get shakes and malts and Sundaes of various flavors including Some seasonal favorites. Soft serve and hand scooped options. Every year on their anniversary they do amazing deals and specials. There's also a once a year special they do on gift cards which is pretty sweet. This year it was 40% off. You do only have 6 months to use them but who can't do that at a place like this??? The line is almost always long but if you don't need to do too many special requests it certainly is easy to place an order online. They also have some cups mugs bottle openers hats and shirts I believe. I always feel like my food is definitely made fresh. During the summer this can be really busy at lunch time and is a great place to go and sit at some picnic tables they have. Parking is strangely plentiful considering the location. It's kind of an icon in this area. And frankly I understand why but I always like to MA and PA diner type places. I've never had a problem with any of the food and the pricing is actually not terrible considering what pricing is going on now. This most recent time I got a float as well as a shake and frankly they were both pretty good. Too much ice cream not enough soda in the float but that's OK live and learn. Basically if you like greasy diner food this is the place for you. I have heard that their seafood spectacular specials are amazing. If you're into that hurry and go check it out. If there wasn't always such a long wait for the food this would have 5 stars. There is like one or two employees that are really nice at the window, you can tell they know what customer service is. The rest seem irritated or are very short with you and rush you. I am happy they got little hand buzzers now so when your food is done the buzzer goes off instead of the loud obnoxious intercom! We saw this place when we arrived in Portland a few days ago. We saw on their sign they had Huckleberry Shakes and Sundaes and stopped in on our way back to the airport. This location is right on a corner and once you pull in the parking lot there is a lot of room for parking and outside seating. You need to either place your order via phone, online or at the counter outside. At each parking spot, they have large QR code signs that you can scan with your phone's camera and pull up a menu. We decided to walk up to the counter where we could check out the menu without scrolling on our phones. We each ordered a small huckleberry milkshake and we thought we ordered two bacon cheeseburgers with one order of seashore plank fries. Our order number was called and we went to the window to pick it up. We grabbed the milkshakes, the paper bag and went to our car to eat. The huckleberry milkshakes were fabulous. The flavor was delicious. There were even whole huckleberries mixed in! When we opened the paper bag at our car, there was only one bacon cheeseburger and one order of seashore plank fries. We checked the order slip on the bag and sure enough, there was only one bacon cheeseburger on it. After thinking about, I thought they were confused when we placed our order but we did not ask to have our order repeated. We ended up sharing the burger and fries which was enough for each of us anyway. Overall it was a good experience and we will definitely be back when we are in Portland! We can't pass up a real huckleberry milkshake, our on regret is not getting the large. read more

Time for an update. It's been awhile. I was online as usual looking for a good deal - burgers and fries and a float. So I thought you know why not let's give Mike's another try. I'm glad I did. The burger was AMAZING. So fresh and delicious. The kind of burger you expect from those expensive joints but without all the fuss. Mike's is that kind of burger place with the groovy outdoor seating, open air, it's right off the highway nestled right near trail tracks that give it that old school Milwaukie vibe. I've eaten there - I've ordered online - both ways results in just good tasting, fair value eats. I ordered the fried mushrooms (an absolute must!), onion rings (a healthy happy generous offering) and of course a rootbeer float because you just gotta do it. Oh and did I mention the corndog w/ fries? Better than a fair corn dog - juicy, flavorful with just the right amount of coating. Yup the family was very happy with the choice to get Mike's delivered. So when you're about in Milwaukie, drop by Mike's Drive-in where the food, the service and the locale is where you'll find a good ol' fashioned homegrown good time. We ordered take-out this evening and threw caution to the wind ordering corn dogs, onion rings, french fries, and a deluxe cheeseburger. Using the Toast app kept the order process expeditious and the text messages kept us promptly informed. Yay! Upon arrival the drive-in isn't busy. Standing at the pickup window for service had us witness five or six employees yapping with one another while two actually labored. Not a single employee bothered to look out the window. After several displays of empty-handed staff walking back and forth someone opened a window and offered to help. Yay! The customer standing near us was there before us and interrupted my conversation with the counter worker to inquire if he could be seen waiting. The employee replied yes, but thought they had already taken the customer's order and apologized when informed that no order was taken, as theirs was a pickup. Yikes. The customer apologized for interrupting our conversation. No worries. We suggested to the counter worker that the customer was ahead of us which concluded with their receiving their food. As the customer left they remarked that Mike's was working on their customer service. Our thinking remains that Mike's is sorely in need of a major fine tuning. We received our order and headed home to dine. With our food plated, we bite into our corn dogs and discover them to be undercooked. Yuck. Our fries were limp, while the onion rings were oily beyond reason. Frier oil temperature was suspect and a mutually shared opinion that we will no longer order the Foster Farm processed corn dogs. Our deluxe cheeseburger was sloppily prepared and saturated with runny mayo. Yuck, again. With soaring prices limiting our discretionary dining out, it's a shame that tonight's experience resulted in buyer's remorse over everything other than the cost. Ehhh I feel like I'm trying to be a bit nice with this place... The food is not a 3 star, but bang for your buck just isn't here... It's got the classic vibe, window service, and absolutely the highest prices in the 'classic burger joint' category in my opinion... Now I know prices are going up across the board, but when you're getting over 10 bucks for a burger without fries, you have to really deliver... Especially since I went to another (smash) burger place where it's got an amazing similar sized burger for 5 bucks (and I won't lie, it's one of if not the best in town) but I wanted to see what the customer appreciation day... Grabbed some half off vouchers and some wooden coins for soft serve. Nabbed a cherry come float and really haven't had a cherry come inayne 15 years and boy oh boy did the kids dig it. Granted I didn't go deep on the menu, what I had at full price didn't wow me, and I don't fully understand the hyoe, but since I have gift certs to blow here... Classic old school burgers and vibe! The first time I tried to come here it was almost a 1.5 hour wait and the parking lot was completely full so needless to say I did not get burgers that visit. This time around, we called ahead and to our surprise they said the wait time was only 15-20 mins so we had to make our move! We got there and our order was already ready too so I think we got lucky with timing just before the dinner rush on a Friday night. I will preface this by saying if you're looking for a gourmet burger or anything too fancy that is not what Mike's is. I won't say it's the best burger I've ever had but it satisfied a classic burger craving but can be on the higher price of the scale but I do think you're paying for the scene. This time around we got a classic cheeseburger, swiss & mushroom burger, side of fries, and a side of their clam strips with a large marshmallow & cookies/cream milkshake. For the burgers a nice sized patty on a sesame bun. Could be a little more seasoned but enjoyed the shaved lettuce vs. a full on slice of lettuce. The sesame bun held up well and kept everything together. The swiss is also a nice option for burgers if you want to try something than the usual. Fries here were yummy! We got them a little cold since they finished before we arrived but super thin and crispy. Clam strips were mehh so would pass on them next time as they were too battered. I know this is a Portland institution, so don't come for me. I ordered 4 burgers, fries, onion rings, and shakes via the app. The app is not easy to navigate, but I got through it. I got a text that the order was ready - nice. It was ahead of schedule - nice. Got up to the window and the young man working there was exceptionally nice. He handed me a paper bag stapled shut with my order attached and said I could check it if I wanted to. I told him I figured he knew what he was doing. I drove all the way home to discover two burgers missing. I called immediately and was told there was an internal miscommunication. My choices were to return to pick up the (now cold) food or have the two burgers refunded. No apology. No offer to remake them. So what, I'm supposed to feed only half my family? Picked up cold food. They did give me new fries and rings, but those were cold too. Unfortunately you tip in the app before any of this. That's $90 I'll never see again. The shakes were great. The food unremarkable. Ok so this is for the Mikes Drive-in in TIGARD. I'm not sure there is a difference in stores but the Tigard store was not on here. But had to comment. The service was great. The guy who helped was so friendly, loved him. But....... I paid $19 ($24 after tip for a garden burger "meal" which included fries, a pop and a prepackaged Franz cookie. First things first the lettuce was ROTTEN! I had to scrape it all off! I mean literally, pieces were brown..... Next I went to fill my cup with cherry coke to get water with black chunks....Other than that I got a standard garden burger and fries for the price of a sit down meal. Keeping in mind this is a burger stand, your expectations should be on convenience, not quality, speed, or even price. Our fish and chips were made with pre-formed & machine-breaded bulk frozen fillets, not thickly battered hand-dipped crunchy pieces of cod like you might imagine. The tartar sauce was not far off from plain mayonnaise, with just a hint of the tartar sauce flavors. Good fries and tasty coleslaw though. Maybe the burgers are different, fresh instead of frozen. After all, this is a burger joint. But truth be told you could make just as good eats with food from the Safeway freezer section. I grew up with Mike's drive in in the mid 1980's. You could not get a better milkshake than Mike's made. I recently stopped in for a milkshake on 4/9/25 it was the first time there since their renovation. Things have changed, and not for the better I'm sad to say...they only serve 16 oz shakes now and they all come with whipped cream unless specified not to. The chocolate peanut butter milkshake i once craved has now became a glorified McDonalds quality milkshake for $6.50 . I won't be a customer at Mike's Drive In in Milwaukie any longer. Quality has gone commercial. Very sad. read more
