Honestly, I'm just a customer and have no afifliation... Bruno's is the pizzeria and sub shop that everyone wishes they had in their neighborhood!!! The brisk business they do here proves it. I've said to my wife that their slogan should be: "Everyone goes to Bruno's!" We've been going for about four years now and they are as good or better than most places we have in Jersey City. The pizza is fresh, the dough is flavorful (no left over "pizza bones"), the cheese is quality and the sauce is bright, slightly tangy and has deep flavor. We've almost tried them all, and so far the Grandma with pesto on flatbread is our favorite. I'm not sure if they use a different sauce on this vs the traditional Neapolitan, but the grandma sauce is outofthisworld!!! Deep red, bold flavor, lasting tomato finish. One wouldn't be out of line to describe it as jam like. The pesto is perfect if you like pesto. A fence sitter might have a different opinion because it's very "pesto-y" - haha. But for us, that's a good thing! Platters are affordable and large enough for two. Cold subs are a perfect pick up for lunch on the beach. Cheesesteaks are also good and nice for a change of pace if you're feeling red sauced out :) They are BYOB, and even though the dining room is comfortable and very serviceable, I wouldn't plan a proposal here as it is after all a pizzeria. I could picture a couple old timers splitting a bottle and a pie, or some fishermen having a cold one after coming off the water. Oh. I almost forget, the cold case. The deserts are delicious. Key lime cheesecake, choc chip cheese cake, plan cheesecake, rice pudding, tiramisu, all fantastic. The reg pasta salad is some of the best I've had and the tortellini salad is amazing! The staff is all super helpful, but as I mentioned, they get busy, so know what you want, or ask quickly and keep it moving. The owner (I'm assuming) is often there and always says hello, asks if you need any additional help while your order is being prepped, and if he recognizes you, asks how your last order was. Best hot and cold subs In town! This place is a family favorite of ours whenever we visit, you can't go wrong here, they have delicious antipasto salad that makes your mouth water. The pizza is delicious, but I personally come for the cheesesteak deluxe sub. Trust me out west where I live now you can't get this kind of sub. This is a east coast favorite that Bruno's does right. Best New Jersey sub shop! I come here every time I come to the shore. The subs are enormous and absolutely fantastic! My favorite is the Maria's chicken (breaded chicken, prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, oh my!). A half size will easily feed two people, but I sometimes indulge in the whole because I'm a glutton. My friend is partial to the #13, which is great if you're into cold cuts (they really like it high!). I've never had their pizza but it looks great. I wish I lived closer so I could go here more often! Absolute gem. read more

I've scratched my head reading the mixed reviews because Bruno's delivers fresh food at an extremely reasonable price. Their entrees come with a fresh garden salad and pasta. They serve fresh hot bread. We had the mozzarella sticks which were nicely browned and not over fried along with the Chicken Francese which was a healthy portion and served with pasta. We also tried the Zuppa de pesce which had an abundance of shrimp, mussels, clams and scallops also with pasta. They don't serve alcohol but you can bring your own. My father, who is in late 40s now, immigrated here to the United States in the early 90s and lived in Alabama for a small amount of time until he unfortunately was mobbed out due to unknown circumstances (seemingly racism against him). His brother who is my uncle, immigrated here in New Jersey; therefore my father started to live here too. And the first place he ate here in New Jersey was Bruno's... And ever since I could remember from since I was but a mere child, my parents took me here constantly, and like with my father before, I fell in love. The owner, the workers, and environment in general are always genuine. I have never had a inconvenience or complaint here ever. They make only the best and most authentic Italian food in New Jersey unlike these other places that claim the same. If you're ever in the area I heavily recommend them. read more

I don't do many reviews, but I had to do this one because I was very disappointed in the pizza. After a long day of work I picked up a pizza(1/2 pepperoni) for my wife and I to enjoy. I get home and it is full of grease(which isn't that big a deal). But the dough was so thin and undercooked that the slices were falling apart from the dough being literally soggy with the grease. We had to rip the bottom half of the slices off because they were just inedible and nasty. So we could only eat barely half the pizza since we had to rip the slices in half. I may not go there often because I no longer live that close, but I know their food is better than that, so I am just disappointed, and won't be going back anytime soon. read more

I've had Bruno's when the old man was alive. Then a few years ago after the old man passed away it was ok. I just finished eating a pizza now. But it was so oily and dark. I've had other places as well lately. So far I've only had from 2 places big chains. I will not give the names but I will give them. read more

The subs are huge so plan on two or three meals if you order one for take out. The pizza is the best! A perfect crust and blend of your favorite toppings. The new restaurant makes "eating in" a real pleasure. They have an incredible menu of mostly Italian dishes that are outstanding. I have six kids and they all say Bruno's is their favorite place to get pizza. I am a former New Jersey Assistant Commissioner of Health and President of the New Jersey Public Health Association. So when I tell you that the place in impeccably clean and well maintained, I don't give that away easily. The family and friends who run Bruno's are warm and friendly. In no time they are calling you by your first name. You truly feel welcome! All the local police, fireman and first aiders seem to gravitate to Bruno's. They are very community minded. They put up what I consider the best "Paint the Town Pink" display to stressing breast cancer prevention, detection and treatment campaign. They really care about others and it shows in everything they do!! I love having them in our town. They help build community and serve the finest pizzas and subs on the shore. I believe that Jersey and New York have the best pizza in the country. And the "best of the best" is Bruno's!!! Put them to the test! You will love it !!! read more

Passed by the place a million times and now I know why...waitress was nice but just not that good. My daughter's dinner came out before my salad. Really? Ordered a pizza and it was ok...sauce was not so great. Made me eat off of paper plates for the pizza........that is flat out horrible. The only really solid part was my wife's Buffalo Chicken Salad...it was actually good. Overall a three and I won't be back ever. Curiosity killed the cat on this one! read more

We have stopped in for pizza slices before and enjoyed their selections. All made fresh daily and ready to travel. Always a good selection and above average. Tonight we dined in and while we only had pizza and salad, it was in our top two for the shore. Sorry but I still prefer Doughboys in Belmar a little more. Got 2 Eggplant Parm dinners & a side of garlic knots on Wednesday night (takeout of course). They were delicious. Eggplant isn't deep fried so it keeps its flavor and the side of spaghetti it comes with was cooked al dente. Their sauce had good taste also. The garlic knots were terrific, loads of garlic and not too doughy. Also, the side of marinara that comes with the knots was awesome. I just wish I had more to dip them in. Will be back to try other dinners during this stay at home order, but looking forward to dining in so I can taste it piping hot out of the oven. Would recommend fairly highly. Updating the rating to 3 Stars. I went to Bruno's again with a friend and the service was better. I got a different set of employees and they were nice. There is still a price discrepancy between the pizza menu and the register but I would let that slide. Hopefully Bruno's will get a new menu in 2020. read more

Whenever I see a huge slice of pizza, I know it's just not going to be good. Some people equate big with good. This type of person tends to enjoy places like the Old Country Buffet and Sizzler. I am not one of these people. I am more of a quality over quantity type of gal and I would definitely trade one of Bruno's dookie slices for just one bite of a good pie. Big slices. Worst sauce ever. I can't comment on a lot of their food, since I moved out of the area about 10 years ago. Whenever I'm back up there, though, I stop and grab an Italian sub. Good God, this is the sub by which all other subs must be judged. They're big, meaty, they stack them the correct way (none of this wedge cut like they do it in south Jersey). They use good quality meats and cheeses, their veggies and toppings are always fresh, and their bread is great. I haven't had their pizza in a decade, but I remember it being pretty good. They also used to have really good cheesesteaks...they diced up the meat on the griddle, and mixed the cheese in with the meat. This is different than the way they do it in South Jersey and Philly, where they put the cheese at the bottom of the roll. Bruno's has cheese in every bit, not just the one on the bottom. read more
