The staff was asking my dad really weird questions about our personal lives, asking me why I was wearing a college shirt for a college I didn't attend, judging us on the flavors we ordered, or even eating the ice cream out of the tubs themselves. I went a bit rogue and tried the Mumbai hot chocolate but I probably should have chosen a less exotic flavor. The clove and ginger was a bit overpowering for my preference and the small was only about 2/3 full then the rest was whipped cream. My daughter enjoyed her butter cookie milkshake. Small seating area tucked down 2nd Ave near Hard Rock Cafe. Bathrooms had a sign for 5minute time note (poop and scoot I guess-lol). After hopping around to the Honky Tonks on Broadway, we came across Mike's and decided to take a break from drinking and get a dessert instead. We were able to sample some ice cream flavors before choosing a Double Scoop ($7.50) and a Double Espresso ($3.85). We split the scoop, but I had the Sweet Corn Pudding flavor, which was unique. So glad I got to be refreshed from the heat of the day at Mike's! There was an ice cream shop right next door that I stopped at first, but I was not impressed by their Icecream. When I sampled Mike's, I was immediately won at first bite. I loved the unique flavors and how expansive the options were. There was also coffee and other items, adding to the menu variety. The staff had a good vibe and were nice. My friend who is dairy free was even able to get some icecream that she raved about (and she also didn't like the shop next door). Alas, it was a Monday so my options were limited. So I had dinner at Mike's Ice Cream. Yes, it was a hot fudge sundae. No I do not regret it. I was a well rounded meal after all! Dairy? CHECK Ice cream and whipped cream, protein and vitamin D needs fulfilled. Grains? CHECK Peanuts! Not technically a grain but nuts are filling and high in protein and fiber. Fruit? CHECK Maraschino cherry. Need I say more? Hot fudge. Technically cocoa pods, from which chocolate is derived from, is a fruit? Veg? CHECK. High fructose corn syrup (most likely also found in the fudge) is made from CORN, DUH! Ok, ok, so my rationale is shakey at best. But it was between this option and fast food and in the end I picked the local biz, even if it was ice cream for dinner. As for the experience--staff was super kind and I sat, enjoying my first bite of food since lunch, watching all the other tourists walk by. I'm a big fan of ice cream, and this looked like the ideal place to grab something sweet so off I went. I was a little surprised to find Mike's practically empty when I entered; the space is a decent size with an ordering counter and a good amount of seating. They menu mostly consisted of ice cream in various forms with a few other sweets. The ice cream sodas stood out to me the most, and I was told I could get any ice cream and soda flavor combination I liked. Even with this freedom of choice I went with a root beer float - I wasn't feeling adventurous that night. The float was good, nothing too exciting just what I would expect out of a root beer float. Service was pretty good as well - everyone was friendly enough and overall I thought Mike's was fine. Their flavors changes from time to time but they have their staple ones. One of their most popular flavors is the White Chocolate Banana Pudding and Tennessee Fudge. I love that they had some interesting Nashville theme flavors when I went, such as their Blackberry Cornbread. Besides just ice cream they also had pastries, bagels, coffees, shakes and sundaes. When I came in, I got a triple scoop with a waffle cone of the pistachio, coffee and white chocolate banana pudding. All of which were delicious, full of flavor, the perfect sweetness and consistency. My husband said the coffee ice cream was the best he had ever had. I really liked their white chocolate banana pudding best. But they were all good. Even the waffle cone was good. It was thin and was crispy and sweet. We paid about $10 for our 3 scoops with a waffle cone which I thought was fair. The staff here were really nice and allowed us to sample as much as we liked. When she scooped my husband's ice cream it was melted and she was rude as she handed it to him. Then when she scooped my ice cream, she put her finger through the cone and served it to me anyway. I wouldn't recommend this place.
