I am always skeptical about bakery cookies as they always look better than they taste, but that was not the case at Mattheessen's-they taste every bit as good as they look, if not better. The service is friendly and helpful. The store is adorably decorated and welcoming. The Peanut Butter Fancy is very good & quite sweet, but the Oatmeal cookie went the fastest-just like Mom makes. Pi Day? :-D But in all seriousness, my fellow Yelpers have shouted out Mattheessen's (pronounced Math-a-sons) and they were right. Starting from the very friendly hello we received when we walked in, followed up by the amazing smells of cookies and fudge. These things were only topped by the fantastic treats we had: My husband got the M&M cookie and he loved it--a difficult rave to get out of a critical cookie lover such as him. They offered samples and I went with either Cookie Monster or Candy Bar (I can't remember the name now!) but it was fantastic. Prices are a bit high but take into consideration the location in expensive downtown Nashville and their wonderful hours of operation (open until midnight every night) and you are getting a fair amount for what you pay for. read more

These cookies are giant and I was here for it! We split a cookie and it's definitely heavy but so tasty. The cookie we got was so moist, chocolatey and sweet. Upon entering you see all the enormous cookies, fudge, and baked goods they make. The ice cream counter is closer to the register in the back and oh my are there so many amazing homemade flavors. You can try flavors as well and the staff are extremely friendly and patient. We ordered a butter pecan which was sweet and delicious for a mid day treat in the Nashville sun. I ordered the dulche de leche and apple pie ice cream and it was phenomenal. The dulche de leche was sweet but perfectly balanced with its caramel sauce. The apple pie was absolutely outstanding and if we weren't flying I would've ordered multiple pints to go. It was a blend up apple pie and snickerdoodle cookie dessert. I saw this on yelp and made it a point to stop by and try their cookies. Half pound cookies...wow! We got the soft peanut butter cookie topped with peanut butter and chocolate fudge and the oatmeal raisin cookie. Both were yummy but we really thought the peanut butter one absolutely delicious. They are big enough for 4-5 people to share or you can enjoy it over a few days so you don't OD on sugar/calories. The service was quick if you know what you want. Delicious ice cream but the young man working behind the counter used a derogatory term (n word used to negatively describe Black people) and that was unacceptable! We were a group of Black women in town for the weekend when we had a taste for a sweet treat. We were trying to decide between Mattheessen's or Mikes just next door but went with Mattheessen's. Upon entering there was a rap song in which the guy servicing us audibly said the "n word" which was used in the song. We corrected him and told him he shouldn't say that word to which he laughed and shrugged with no apology or regard for how it made us feel. Half our group decided not to get ice cream but the half of us who had already ordered continued eating our dessert. Unfortunately, it was too late for us to change our minds. The ice cream was delicious especially the chocolate covered key lime pie but I would highly recommended that no one visit this establishment until their employees are taught to be more respectful. read more
