If you know me, you know- ICE CREAM is my dessert of choice and Mattheessen's did not disappoint. Literally 2 ice cream shops within a few feet away but the massive cookies on the display window in front stole the show. Immediately walking in I had to try one of their giant cookies. Easily shareable with 3-4 people. I liked the fact that you can get them room temperature or warmed up. We bought two swoops of ice cream to make it a full combination and boy was the banana ice cream flavored scoop with a chocolate chip melted cookie a spectacular. Very clean shop and plenty of people stopping by to choose between both or one do the desserts. Nicely located in a busy street in Nashville with a lot of foot traffic for shopping and drinking in the area. Would definitely come back again and try the other variety of cookies they sell. read more

I am always skeptical about bakery cookies as they always look better than they taste, but that was not the case at Mattheessen's-they taste every bit as good as they look, if not better. The service is friendly and helpful. The store is adorably decorated and welcoming. The Peanut Butter Fancy is very good & quite sweet, but the Oatmeal cookie went the fastest-just like Mom makes. The Key Lime pies looked amazing but we just did not have the room for pie after eating the cookies. Something to look forward to on our next visit! read more

Ok I have an insatiable seeet tooth, but I'm dealing with it. So I stopped by for the huge cookies and ended up with a shake as well. The staff greeted me as I entered, which I always love and take note of. It's a decent sized shop, with a sweet smell and welcoming vibe. Pi Day? :-D But in all seriousness, my fellow Yelpers have shouted out Mattheessen's (pronounced Math-a-sons) and they were right. Starting from the very friendly hello we received when we walked in, followed up by the amazing smells of cookies and fudge. These things were only topped by the fantastic treats we had: My husband got the M&M cookie and he loved it--a difficult rave to get out of a critical cookie lover such as him. They offered samples and I went with either Cookie Monster or Candy Bar (I can't remember the name now!) but it was fantastic. Prices are a bit high but take into consideration the location in expensive downtown Nashville and their wonderful hours of operation (open until midnight every night) and you are getting a fair amount for what you pay for. read more

The smell of fresh baked cookies brought my colleague and I to the front door. The giant cookies in the window got us inside. All the sweet treats got us drooling! On top of all the goodness, I want to highlight the kindness of all the employees. I wish I got both of their names. They were so kind and helpful! These cookies are giant and I was here for it! We split a cookie and it's definitely heavy but so tasty. The cookie we got was so moist, chocolatey and sweet. A must stop ice cream spot off of Broadway that makes the hands down best homemade ice cream in Nashville. This ice cream spot has the perfect southern charm and warmth to it. Upon entering you see all the enormous cookies, fudge, and baked goods they make. The ice cream counter is closer to the register in the back and oh my are there so many amazing homemade flavors. You can try flavors as well and the staff are extremely friendly and patient. We ordered a butter pecan which was sweet and delicious for a mid day treat in the Nashville sun. I ordered the dulche de leche and apple pie ice cream and it was phenomenal. The dulche de leche was sweet but perfectly balanced with its caramel sauce. The apple pie was absolutely outstanding and if we weren't flying I would've ordered multiple pints to go. It was a blend up apple pie and snickerdoodle cookie dessert. I saw this on yelp and made it a point to stop by and try their cookies. Half pound cookies...wow! We got the soft peanut butter cookie topped with peanut butter and chocolate fudge and the oatmeal raisin cookie. Both were yummy but we really thought the peanut butter one absolutely delicious. They are big enough for 4-5 people to share or you can enjoy it over a few days so you don't OD on sugar/calories. The service was quick if you know what you want. Stopped in for a sweet treat to end our evening in Nashville. They have a good ice cream selection and GIANT, 1/2 lb cookies in a a convenient location just off Broadway. My husband and I each got a scoop and then split one of the peanut butter fancy cookies. We were happy to see they had a small sitting area upstairs where we could enjoy our treats before walking back to our hotel. The location is right by off Broadway just in case you need a break or some ice cream out of the Nashville summer heat. As of this review, the street is under construction but you can walk on the sidewalk to get there. We walked in to rest our feet and get out of the sun and we were treated by 2 friendly staffers who made us a nice Pizookie style dessert with a big cookie and ice cream.
