I first called Mike's Liquors several weeks ago when my roommates and I officially got sick of recycling beer cans (environment) but didn't want to buy outdoor craft beers (overpriced). We bought a kegerator and called every place possible trying to see if anyone sold kegs. Finally we made the perfect choice in calling Mike's Liquors. Not only did they accommodate a same-day keg order and informed me I should have CO2 with it (oops), but they even dropped it off within 2 hours same-day. Unfortunately, the kegerator didn't work properly (it was from Best Buy not them and could have also been my fault setting it up), but our new one just arrived this week. I called Mike's Liquors again a few days ago to ask if the keg would still be good a few weeks later or how I should approach setting the kegerator up as I'm unsure if it was user-error last time. Mike's went above and beyond to not only provide more CO2, but they helped with the kegerator setup and made sure the beer was still drinkable (it is!) This is not your regular liquor store / beer fulfillment, this is a full on establishment that specializes in customer service and support. I've never felt more comfortable calling a place and asking for help when it's outside of my area of expertise. Huge thank you to Joe who went above and beyondC and subsequently Tim and Travis for their help coordinating and charging an extremely reasonable price. I called Mike's Liquors to order an array of drinks (for delivery) for an event of 25-30 people. Jual was super helpful in estimating how many drinks we needed, putting together an assortment of beer + wine + soda, picking a delivery window that would work for us, and customizing the order to my requests. I wasn't used to getting so many "Yes, we can do that" responses to questions. "Can I do 1/2 1/2 regular and diet soda? Yes. Can I add 2 more bottles of wine to our case? Yes. Since I moved to SF, I've ditched a lot of chain stores in favor of shopping at local places, but I never thought I'd find a suitable replacement for Bevmo. After all, booze is booze, and if you're trying to sustain a fully stocked bar through one cocktail party after another, you can't afford to mess around. You need to get stuff for the absolute lowest price. And yet, when someone from *Sunnyvale* recommends a store in the Excelsior, you gotta follow up. So I checked out Mike's Discount Liquor, complete with a cheat sheet of Bevmo prices, and sure enough, most of what I was looking for is the same price or even cheaper. And yet you still get personal service and knowledgeable advice (especially if you're after tequila--it's their specialty), unlike the blank stares I usually get at Bevmo. Granted, they were missing a few things (applejack, Hangar One Kaffir Lime), but in general you'll find what you need, and at the right price. And how could I not love a place that proudly features Pumpkin Liqueur? Also, they have a great website with all their prices, and you can fill out an order there and come pick it up. These guys have amazing selection and service. Kegerators are complicated, and getting good beer to fill them with is also super complicated. Trying to contact individual breweries and then picking up all your beer from them, if they even offer kegs is a huge pain. Mikes carries a huge selection of sixth and up barrel kegs from a large selection of local and larger breweries. Ordering was easy, I selected two kegs off their site and called in an order. One was out of stock so they called me back right away and I was able to swap one out and they still honored same day delivery. Once the driver got here, he moved the kegs up to my apartment for me, saving me a massive amount of headache. I ended up having a leak in one of my lines, and next day I went to their store and picked up a new tank, and they even gave me troubleshooting tips for finding the issue. "There are two empty kegs blocking the only fire exit in my apartment. Not to worry, they'll be gone soon thanks to Mike's Liquors, who delivers kegs for FREE and will pick them back up for a mere $15. I ordered two half-barrel kegs from Mike's, New Belgium Blue Paddle (which is not easy to find) and Miller High Life. Prices are a tiny bit higher than Bevmo, but supporting a local store with the convenience of free delivery is worth it. Mike's delivered both kegs, ice and cups, dragged it all up my two flights of stairs, and even tapped and iced the kegs for me... FOR FREE! (Tip your delivery guy!) (Maybe because they're from/located in the Excelsior District-- which is where I was born & raised). Whatever you're looking for, they'll do their best to find it for you. For instance, I was looking for Mead wine. Unfortunately, they couldn't produce any-- but just the mere fact that they put in the effort was nice. That's real "old skool" customer service! Just went in for a few quick things and this is what happened: 1. Turns out they were actually closed but let me and my (stoned) boyfriend wander around aimlessly looking at stuff. 2. Once we realized they were closed they didn't rush us at all and let my (I repeat: stoned) boyfriend ask what was in some obscure cocktail he suddenly realized he needed the ingredients for. 3. Looked up said cocktail and printed out the recipe, helped us make sure we had everything we needed and 4. GAVE us a free shaker and pint glass. Like, FREE. I thought we were charged for it as our bill came to about $50, but once we got home we realized they just GAVE it to us, so we could make that obscure cocktail. Total class act, especially considering how we must've looked walking in (me in crappy sweats, my boyfriend stoned and having the stupids, and us asking about some random cocktail WHEN THEY'RE ACTUALLY NOT EVEN OPEN). I am so impressed. Will OBVIOUSLY be going back for more. (From what I gathered, although I didn't look around too much, the selection was great too. Yes! Yes! Yes!! The good people at Mike's took care of all our beer needs so much, and so sweetly, that I'm now a Mike's fan for life. I needed a few kegs. They have them. I needed them delivered. They do that for free for orders over $100. Pick-up service is $20 and so totally worth it. When our kegs arrived, they were promptly set up, tapped, iced, and I was gently reminded to relax and just enjoy the party. I felt so loved. I own a kegerator. A beer fridge. A tapper. Whatever you want to call it - I have a machine that allows me to pour my precious Guinness at home, at my leisure, for my self, my wife, and my select friends. I only pour Guinness. Call it... a personal weakness, if you will. This week I ran out of beer gas. Okay, fine - I went to Airgas (which I really like, and where I've had nothing but good experiences) and got a new bottle of the stuff. Kewl. I hooked it up and had the following, fleeting thought: Hey, I think the keg's probably pretty low. But I moved on. Hooked up my nice new bottle. Adjusted the pressure carefully. Poured a pint to make adjustments. Poured a sec-- and actually, no, ran out of Guinness at that moment. Usually I'd go to the Jug Shop. But that's across town and they only get shipments on Thursdays. So I called Bev Mo, knowing it was a hail mary, and they said 'I'm sorry sir...' So I called Mike's. I had heard about them from other people but had never thought of them at the right time, if you know what I mean. [me, sheepishly] "Do you guys happen to have a keg of Guinness in stock tonight?" [man at Mike's, exasperated] "Of course. Cold. Ready to go." An hour later and I'm drinking a fresh pint and writing this review. At the store they were awesome. Fast, efficient, helped me get the keg out to my car. And once I was a real guy with a credit card actually buying a keg, the phone man was really cool. Oh, and apparently they will deliver you a keg - possibly even same day if you call in the morning - for FREE. (Plus the cost of the keg.) I will never cross town for a keg again. If I could give them negative stars, I would. I placed an order for a corporate event more than 3 days in advance. The evening before the event, at 3:30pm to be exact, they emailed me and said they only do deliveries to the Peninsula on Wednesdays, so they could deliver the following week. I explained that I had an event the next day and asked what my options were. They said, "Sorry for not reviewing your order earlier. We did not double check the delivery address. The order may be picked up at our store. Otherwise we'll just cancel it." REALLY?!!?!! So now I'm SOL for my event. If I could pick up my order, why on earth would I request delivery??? Definitely will NOT be doing business with these people again. I understand that mistakes happen, but at least be a LITTLE accommodating since YOU made the error and not a potential customer. Horrible customer service!!! EDIT: Almost immediately after I posted this review, I received a call from the manager apologizing for how his team handled the situation. He said that they've been really busy because of the Warriors in the Playoffs, but to me, that shouldn't affect the quality of customer service. Anyway, he said that he would do the delivery himself to make sure we received everything in time for my event. Everything did come as promised, so I'm glad they made it work. I had an AWESOME experience with Mike's in February after another store let me down. I was looking for a keg of cider for a party. It's not a common brand, and the other store had promised they could fill the order but then decided they didn't want to bother only two days before the party. Did I mention this was for Super Bowl weekend? YEA. So, I figured I was out of luck, but the cider company connected me to Mike's, and they were happy to place the order. Everything about the transaction went really smoothly. They made sure I had the right equipment for the keg, and they were even able to drop off and pick up the keg, which really helped because I do not have a car. Delivery is free if you spend a certain amount. They gave me a 2 hour window and showed up in the earlier portion of that. (There was a charge for pick-up but it was worth it, because I would have had to take a taxi or rent a car to get the keg + tub back to Mission Terrace. I am thoroughly impressed by the job they did on this, especially considering that it was something they had never ordered before and that it was Super Bowl weekend. They will be my first call next time I need a keg! read more

These guys absolutely rock. Not only are they extremely friendly & accommodating, they have one of the best selections of tequila in the city, they deliver kegs, and have one of the best deals you could get on a keg. Let me illustrate: $100 gets - a half barrel of PBR or High Life - 4 bags of ice - 100 plastic cups - tub & tapper (no extra deposit) Considering that just the half barrel is $100 at BevMo, that's a great deal. My only lament is that they close at 6pm - which is pretty early for anyone who is drinking. Mike's has a tremendous keg selection, including 5- and 7-gallon sizes, and they deliver free, which is a beautiful thing. They even bring you the correct tap handle for the beer in question, which always impresses your guests. My only complaint is they don't have a list of kegs online - you have to either go there or have the staffer go thru an endless litany. Somewhat painful for both parties. read more

Although I've actually been inside this place once to return a keg (it was sitting at our house for over a month so I couldn't do pick up) I really didn't get a chance to see what they had, so this review is all about there keg service. Since I've lived in SF (about a year) my and roommates and I have used this place four different times for kegs, and I've been the main person dealing with them the last three times. I've never had any problems ordering a keg on-line, having it delivered, or having them come pick it up. They have a great selection of beer to choose from and provide anything you might need to go with your keg (ice, cups, tap, tubs, etc...). Depending on what kind of beer you want you can either get a pony keg or full size keg. At first I thought they were a little pricey, but I'm also from AZ where everything tends to be cheaper, and after comparing them to other places in SF there actually reasonably priced. When you have delivery or pickup for a keg they give you a two-hour window, which is actually pretty reasonable when you consider major cable companies, furniture stores, and appliance centers with a zillion more employees than Mike's often times give you a 4-6 hour window. Every time they've delivered our keg they've set it up for us, which can be a bitch (we always have the set it up on our second floor balcony, and carrying it up those stairs has to suck!!!). There's a $20 pickup fee, and there pretty flexible about when they can come pick it up (after our Super Bowl party though we had it sitting here for over a month and that's why we had to return it our self). Any person who I've dealt with from Mike's either in person or on the phone has been extremely nice & helpful. If you live in SF and need a keg for a party, I'd definitely go with Mike's!!! read more

This place is a hidden gem. One might even say a diamond in the rough (if you know the neighborhood you will know what I mean). I needed two 5 gallon kegs and a double headed jockey box for a wedding rehearsal dinner that I was hosting up at Tahoe. I called all over hell and high water to find a place that could provided me both. Every place I called had a similar response "sorry, but no we do not do that". I actually started to get discouraged and when I stumbled upon Mike's Liquors on Yelp. I called and with in 10 mins I had every thing reserved for my weekend plans. Which by the way turned out FANTASTIC! The day of pick up everything was organized and ready to go. The staff gave me a quick orientation to the Jockey Box and off I went. Told me to call if I had any questions and even gave me a back up hand pump in case I needed it. Honestly, if I drove by this place I would think nothing of it. I might not have ever ventured in. Thanks to YELP I have a new favorite place for kegs and alcohol. Between the staff of folks that work there, the prices and the over all service this is a go to place for me and I live in Noe Valley for God sake. You can't beat the convenience, the professionalism, & service! They're not out to take your money: I wanted around 20-25 gallons of beer, but they talked me down to 15 due to the size of my event and the amount an average person can consume safely. They deliver in the morning: 11am, the self-proclaimed Beer Guy did a little dance and delivered it up a flight of stairs. The service: The Beer Guy did everything! Great prices, very competitive with BevMo, except that Mikes DELIVERS KEGS. If you have ever tried to load a keg in a car, unload it, and then drag it up your front stairs, you know what I'm talking about. This place is great! We were able to get our CO2 tank exchanged and buy a new keg in a few minutes and the guys who helped us inside were so nice. One of the guys even brought the keg out to our car! A truly great full service liquor store. We ordered about $700 worth of beer from these guys for our wedding. They were punctual, courteous, responsive and professional. The beer showed up on time at the venue and was pre-chilled in their cooler overnight so that the caterers didn't have to frantically ice down everything.
