I must be the only person who didn't know that Mike's Pies is hidden in an office/warehouse space on Windhorst near Falkenburg Road. They've been there for 3 years now. I was still getting their key lime pies at Winn-Dixie up until this past week. For those who are not local, they started their business in Tampa over 30 years ago. The pies can be found nationally at restaurants and grocery stores. They happened to be one of many contestants in a pie contest on GMA recently which prompted me to look up their address. They are closer than I thought. As others have said, it's hidden. Thankfully I read the reviews stating that because it still took me a while to find it. I had also read that you need to call ahead if you want something specific, or during the holiday rush for pies. I went on a whim to see what they had available. They had many frozen pies, and I believe some were being held for pick up orders. She said there was one seasonal guava cheesecake left. At that point, I didn't even really care what other flavors they had. I think they had key lime, pecan, and others. It was guava that screamed the loudest to me. It was a very quick transaction after that. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. I kept it in the car for a while because I had other errands to run. It defrosted enough were I could pull out a slice of it and pop the rest into the freezer (yep, it can be refrozen). These cheesecakes are already pre-sliced which is very convenient. Mind you, these are larger than any of the Mike's Pies sold at grocery stores. There are 12 big slices in this cheesecake. I couldn't wait for my slice to defrost. I went ahead and ate it partially frozen. It was the best cheesecake ever! The guava is not just on top of it. It's mixed inside the cheese cake. It had guava in every bite. It ended up being so creamy towards the end as it continued to defrost. Maybe because I took my sweet time savoring each bite. I so wish this flavor was on their regular local menu. I remember seeing it on the menu at Fat Willie's Fish Camp back in September but they ran out of it. I feel like this cheesecake was meant for me to find. I will get it again whenever it's back on the local menu. This cheesecake will have to last until then. read more

Ordered pies well over 48 hrs in advance and was not told at any point that they are frozen solid. Not when I ordered and not when they were picked up. Why would I order a fresh pie for $27 and it's frozen? Why do you need 48 hrs ahead of an order if you freeze them.... Very confusing and disappointing when we ordered these for pick-up at a certain time for an event then had to cancel our event. I do want to also mention that when I called the girl was not apologetic or understanding at all and told me all that was needed was for it to sit out for an hr. We picked them up at 11 and they were out for hrs... still frozen solid. read more

The rumors are true! Mikes Pies makes THE BEST Key Lime Pie in all of Florida! I am a huge Key Lime fan, I even order Key Lime Pie Margaritas and buy Key Lime Wine. Key Lime Pie is by far my favorite and Mikes gets it perfect. With a smooth velvety texture, delectable crust and just the right tart this will now be my go to for my pie fix. Mikes has retailers throughout the area so I picked up my slice at Bella Vino in Belleair. The chocolate mousse was also spot on! Oh my. I was looking forward to enjoying some Mikes Key Lime Pie on my recent visit to the Florida Keys. My friends were excited for me to try this pie as they had it before and swore it to be the very best! One bite in and the grittiness of the filling made us all as one say 'WTF!? Gross!' And the 'crust' was a mushy mess and tasted nothing like graham crackers. Fantastic! I called them to see if they had any pies available only a couple of days before Thanksgiving and was told they were no longer taking any advanced orders. I was told if I wanted a pie I could try again the next day and was warned to come early. I'm not sure if it was because of the holiday or if the pies are just that good (neither would surprise me), but I got there more than 15 minutes before they opened and I was the fourth person in line. I got one apple pie (my favorite) and one key lime because every review I saw raved about their key lime pies. My fiance and I tried a little before taking to my families house for the holiday. I found the key lime to honestly be a little too tart and she didn't like the apple pie as much. That being said, I personally ate almost a quarter of the apple pie and she ate almost a quarter of the key lime. In other words, I'm certainly going to be going here again for another pie. If you try to find the place, it's tucked way in the back of this industrial plaza. I was driving around the whole area for at least ten minutes before I found the place. read more

We discovered this place a couple of years ago, and at that time I thought they were still in the Oldsmar area (willing to drive for good pie). I was very delighted when I learned that they moved to the Brandon area since it's near where we live. Their key lime pie is the best key lime pie I have ever had, and we make it a point to order pies from them for Thanksgiving. Because the pies are really good, they get to set some rules. Pro tip: put an alert on your calendar 1 MONTH AWAY if it's a holiday and call ahead to order. They don't accept orders if it's too close to a holiday. Also, get in line before they open if you didn't order ahead, yes there's a line and they won't hold pie for you on the day of, so you get what's available at the time that you come in. We have ordered pies from Mike's before and also bought them retail and they are always excellent. This week was the first time I had ordered for someone else, and I placed my order on a Monday morning. Not knowing how to track the order, I called the store on Tuesday morning and asked if they could tell me when it would ship. I was told they only ship on Mondays but if the kitchen was making the cheesecake I ordered they would ship it right away. The key lime is so perfect in every way. It has the perfect balance of sweet and tart, nice consistency, and delicious crust. Nice variety of pies and cakes. From Sea Salt Caramel to good ole Apple Pie. You can find these in various restaurants and stores, just look their website up to see where. If you would like to pick up one instead, this place sits on a dead end street in a commercial building on a corner. You wouldn't know it's there unless you looked it up. When I walked in to the place, it seemed more like just business area then a place that make delicious deserts. There was just a display case with all their pies and cakes in a typical office type setting...but they do make them here and you can pick them up during business hours. I just suggest calling first. I ordered a Reese's peanut butter pie and took it back to share at work. It didn't disappoint. A nice subtle chocolatey richness with peanut butter packed in with it. The pie didn't last long at all. I've tried the Sea Salt Caramel cheesecake and carrot cake as well. The cheesecake was delicious but wasn't entirely happy with the carrot cake. Just about everything here is frozen, but made freshly there before they do. Make sure to thaw them out a little before enjoying. read more

I traveled to the pie shop on pi day! So as I entered I noticed several different pies on display in a stand up carousel cooler. The pies in the showcase were miss cuts and they are also half price. Oh my pie I bought a 12 slice chocolate cake triple layer Delicious is an understatement. I also bought a full pecan pie as well as a Keylime pie and an apple crunch. The Keylime pie and the pecan pie are easily frozen. The chocolate cake since it is pre-portioned is again easily frozen by the slice. So with my one full size cake of Apple which was full price I walked out with four delicious pies all 12 slicers for $50. Service was outstanding the pies were boxed up easy to carry out . This is not a place to be missed if you like cheesecake fruit pies you can always call ahead place an order they are happy to take a 24 hour advance call. Especially the crust was so sweet I couldn't eat it. If extremely sweet pies is your thing, you'll love it. If you like to taste the balanced flavors of the whole pie, go somewhere else. read more

Unfortunately I will no longer be eating Mike's pies. It's not because of the quality it's because of their business practices. First I have to say their pies are excellent. I stopped by their location which is about 20 minutes from my home to pick up a pie. I discovered they relocated across town. I called up to see if they had a particular pie so I can drive over and get it. I was told they were out of them and ordering has stopped because of the holidays, which is understandable. I was told they make extra pies every day so there's a good chance I can still get one. When I said I would call back tomorrow to see if they had the pie in stock so I would make the trip over there. I was told not to call because they would not check to see if they had the pie, because they won't hold them. I explain that's fine you don't have to hold the pie but if I know you have one I will take the chance and drive over. I was told that even if I called they would not check to see if they had any pies that I was looking for. That being said their pies are not good enough for me to drive one hour, one way just to see if they had the pie. I wish I had a business where I can tell my customers I appreciate do you want to do business with me but I'm not checking on stock you need to drive over and find out. read more

These pies are certainly show stoppers. We normally buy them in bulk for clients every year during the holidays and our clients are always impressed. The apple crisp must weigh about 3-5 pounds. They are huge! The quality is always on point and anytime we bring these to a dinner party. We get lots of happy smiles. Never knew about this place until someone at work brought in a caramel cheesecake and it was TO DIE FOR good! So creamy and just left me wanting more. So based on the label on the container, I visited the website only to find that they are located just moments from where I work. Since it's Christmas time and my task was to bring pies to our family gathering, I visited their location (which is right off Waters Ave, near FedEx). The building isn't hard to find and is in an area of alot of distribution centers, but parking is easy and you can just walk right up and into their building. Staff was super friendly and the place had a bit of a crowd. There is a freezer in the front where you can pick a frozen pie (pre-baked, so all you have to do is sit it out before serving). I purchased the plain cheesecake and the Apple pie. I have not yet cut into the cheesecake because I was not about to share that goodness...that's mine. I took the Apple to our family dinner and it went FAST! It was very good, big apple slices and the top is a crumble type that sort of has a toffee flavor as well. The pie is not overly sweet and so very good. We heated our slices up in the microwave and had whipped cream on top. My hubs fav pie is Apple which is the main reason I purchased this and didn't cringe at the $20 cost. He agreed that it was absolutely delicious and even went back for seconds. Awful, awful, awful customer service. The woman running the place screamed at me when I parked in the parking lot because she assumed I was not a customer and was stealing her parking spots. Bombarded me at my window screaming. Not sure what was going on with her before I got there. When I explained that I was a customer trying to go inside, she just walked away. No apology or nothing. The best Keylime pie ever! It will cost you $80 to get one shipped from their website (that is not a typo). I thought that had to be a mistake and actually called them to ask them about the price. They explained that they are charged high shipping costs by the carriers because they have to use refrigerated, overnight shipping since their products do not contain preservatives. Luckily it will cost only you around four dollars for one slice in a restaurant around here. However if you are smart and go to one of the local stores that sells them you can get a whole pie for less than $10. The Keylime is absolutely heavenly. It's really tart but in a good way. I thought Publix had the best Key Lime (KL) pie. I am SO sorry that I didn't try this before. Mike's KL pie is unbelievably FULL of flavor and creamy thick texture, the crust is SO yummy! I deeply regret not buying this before. I feel like I wasted calories on Publix's KL pie. Makes Publix's KL pie taste artificial and like it was made out of a box. read more
