We recently used Mike's Professional Tree Service because he was recommended so we didn't think about looking at his reviews online. Unfortunately, we had similar experiences to the ones posted here. When I contacted him, Mike was initially cordial over the phone. He stated his familiarity with the property and told me the price to trim all three trees on our property was $400. His tone changed, however, when I said that we only needed one of the trees cut that was hanging over our roof. He told me that his minimum charge was $350 and that if we had him trim all three trees, the cost would be $400. That should have been our first red flag. I told him that I needed to check in with another household member about the price and would call him back. When I called back within 10 minutes of our original conversation, Mike claimed to not know who I was or anything about our prior conversation at first. It took some time with me reiterating what we had originally talked about that he finally said he remembered who I was and what we had discussed. This should have been our second red flag. Even though we didn't want to spend the extra money, we agreed to his proposal but didn't think to ask him to put the estimate in writing. After he completed the work four days later while I was at work, he left a bill in our door for $450, with no note about exactly what work was done or to explain the extra cost. I assumed it was all a mistake so when I called his office the next morning to inquire about what transpired, the woman on the phone (who was very nice!) said that he sometimes makes mistakes on the final price because he forgets the price he quoted and that she would check in with him about the price and to see if he only cut the one tree as opposed to the three promised. Around 4:30 pm that same day, when I was driving back home from work, he left a curt message on my voice mail saying that he did cut all three trees and that the price was always $450. This is a complete and utter lie because I know that we had agreed to $400 for him to cut all three trees. We will never use his services again and recommend that others do not as well. A few things that we learned from this experience: (1) get the quote documented in writing by e-mail, or text (if they won't send you a documented quote before doing the work, that's a problem); (2) check reviews online before hiring someone; and (3) go with your gut; if something doesn't feel right, listen to that feeling. read more

I was amazed at the quote at first was a bit leary but, Mike cut down 14 tree's that was in a hard place to get at. He has a monster crane and lifted the tree's over the roof of my house and didn't leave a mark! Easy guy to talk to and reasonable he gave me the best deal of anyone by far! Used Mike's to remove two trees. I actually dealt with them entirely on the phone, but my neighbor reported that they were quick and efficient. My only wish is that they communicated better - they showed up for the quote and service without any advance notice. Also, after the cutting, a separate truck came and removed the big tree limbs the following day, which was also not communicated. All in all, they do a good job, are very reasonably priced (better than the other places that I checked), and I would use them again. read more

The only good thing I can say about Mike is that he responded to my request for a cost quote for tree cutting on my property. Mike and I walked around my home, as I pointed out limbs and branches overhanging my house and garage that I wanted cut down, along with 3 entire trees, he made some suggestions that we both agreed on. I agreed on his price and payment plan, but my mistake was not asking him for a written estimate on what he would be cutting. When his workers arrived the next day, the paperwork they had I felt was about 30% shy of the cuts discussed the day he quoted me. Well my bad, I took it on the shin until I noticed that they left 3 dead limbs uncut on the two trees they just came down from. When questioned, the worker told me he cut what was on his order. Not to argue with him, I called Mike, who spoke to me in a voice that I didn't appreciate, told him that I felt those limbs were a concern to me and if necessary I would pay extra. I told his worker to call him back so he could give me a price before he moved the bucket truck from under said trees. He gives me a price of $500, which was sinful, especially for cuts that were originally part of my quote. I guess I'll just have to wait for those limbs to fall on there own. To top things off, the cut timbers were left in 6 to 10 foot lengths, even though Mike stated 4 foot lengths. I've used Mike about 6 times in the last 10 years. He has always done exactly what he said he was going to do, when he said he was going to do it. Last week I had the first "emergency' type situation with a tree and got a quote from a competitor for $1200 and they "probably" wouldn't land the tree in my wife's garden. Mike came over within 2 hours of calling the office, quoted $400 and said no problem to lay the tree on the lawn and not the garden. They did it that afternoon and put the tree exactly where in needed to go. I always cut up my own trees for firewood and deal with the brush so I can't speak to the clean up of his crews but I've watched them work and they are fast and good. Always verbal quotes(but they do mail an insurance rider) but never had a problem. read more

Would NOT recommend this company! They were suppose to come on a Thursday, took the day out of work, never showed and no phone call. Then they roll up to my house before 7am on the Friday to cut down a couple of trees and trim others. Stump grinding was suppose to be done as well. Told the guy would be here later Fri. or the next day. Saturday came and went no show and no call. Monday comes still nothing until almost 3pm in the pouring rain to grind the stumps. Started Monday and came early Tuesday morning for clean up. With the weather couldn't get to cleaning out the stumps until Thursday after work. All the stump isn't grind down and still above or at grass level, they left the stump pretty high when they cut the tree. I've been calling the company everyday since Thursday April 23rd for Mike to call, come and see, though I have pics, and send his guy back out. Still nothing. Time to call Susan Hogan! read more

This is the MOST UNPROFESSIONAL service. I was given an appointment to have someone give a quote to remove some trees. I received a call from Mike two days before the appointment insisting that he wanted to come out on that day. I wasn't home and he wanted to go take a look without me there, which I refused. He then showed up the day of the appointment at 6:30AM while I was asleep (appt was at 8AM). He came up with a quote without me for the WRONG trees. I asked him to keep the original appointment and he showed up 25 minutes late. When I voiced my disappointment, he ripped up the quote and drove away. DO NOT HIRE THIS TREE SERVICE. read more

This might be the first review I've ever posted. I had Mike come out to give me a quote on taking down some trees and limbs that were shading our pool. He advised me that taking off the limbs on one part of a particular tree would be unsafe but that he would do "do whatever I want". I told him I wanted it to be safe (as it's near my house) and asked if he could take down some limbs from the other side to make it safe. He averted the question and told me to "just be here the day that Steve comes by and tell him what you want done." I asked for his professional opinion of what could be done and he abruptly stormed off and said "I'll pass". I asked "Why?" as he was marching off and he replied "It's too confusing" and got in his truck and drove off. Rude, unprofessional, and clearly not very knowledgeable. If you are looking for a professional tree service, this is not it. I called Mike for an estimate on pruning some large trees. He asked me for my address and called me back in a day and verbally quoted me $500. Since I have a deck on the back of the house and require the shade cover that the tree brings, I wanted to understand what he would be trimming, so that we'd be on same page. He became indignant, aggressive, and pushy when I asked him to meet me at the property to show me what he planned to do. This guy is a hack! read more

Horrible experience. Mike showed up at my house at a day and time completely different than the appointment I had made. Only half of the scope of work agreed upon was done and he refused to meet me at my house at any agreed upon time to discuss until I paid the entire bill. I have never had an experience like this in my over 25 years experience as a home owner. He told me it would cost $35 for him to come to my house to discuss any further. The worst tree cutting experience I have ever had. This is not directed at the tree cutting crew. They did their best. My problem is with the owner. Aggressive, bully tactics- bad communication, half promises - the list goes on and on. A good owner knows when to take responsibility for an issue- not this guy. Avoid at all costs. Took a tree off my roof and deck for a healthy price. Left a 5' stump in the yard. He cut the stump 3/4 of way through. Been waiting And calling for 3 months to take 10 min to finish and nothing. Have 3 more trees to come down and you can bet your A-- I will not call him. Never should have paid him till they finished. Also dug up neighbors yard and left equipment there. garbage, that is what I got when ordered a cord of seasoned wood last month. seasoned with green pieces in it. the wood size and pieces are so inconsistent, I have never seen wood like this before.( we have had a wood stove for 40 years) had I waited and asked before ordering I never would have ordered from them. and I will never do it again. I thought I was doing a good thing ordering from a local company, then you had the $40. delivery charge tacked on to the cost of the cord of wood because I was in the next town. they are everything I was told after I had the delivery. Would /Will not recommend them to anyone, ever, unless someone is looking for garbage/junk wood. read more

Beware when Mike the owner comes to give you a quote!!! First of all, Mike is very aggressive and he will make every attempt to get as much business out of you he can, and will sweeten the deal by allowing you to make monthly payments. However, his quotes are verbal and you trust him on his handshake. He will also try to do the job the very next day so you do not have a chance to digest the quote without seeing it on paper!! Do not agree to anything until Mike provides you with a written quote outlining the exact work to be performed, specifically each tree and stump to be removed. I trusted Mike and his handshake, but when he came to do the job the following day, he left out one large tree and neglected to grind a huge stump from a tree he removed several months earlier! When I asked him about it, he said those two items were not part of the quote!!! Total BS!!!! I have heard similar complaints about his aggressive style and quick to quote and do the job so you cannot review and confirm! I do give high marks for the quality of the work (4 stars), however, 1 star for his aggressive nature and reckless quoting!! He also promised me seasoned cords of wood (I burn) for $200/cord "for life", however the wood he delivered was green and would not burn!!! When I called to complain, he would not call me back and had one of his office clerks tell me that they should not have delivered the wood, cause there was no more seasoned wood. But I had paid for the wood!!! Crappy way to treat your customers!!! I would never use his services again, nor will I recommend his services, even if he might be lower price....It's not worth the aggravation. read more

If you want a professional experience don't bother calling Mike, he has no clue what that means. Though he gave me a great 'verbal' quote it was apparent that he barely looked at the trees I needed removed. That bothered me especially after reading the reviews here and the 12 complaints he has on the Better Business Bureau. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and called him the next day and asked for a written quote. He refused to give one, he will only provide it in writing once you hire him. That's a big red flag to me as the customer because that means he can come back and say the job was bigger than he anticipated and charge more...which would probably happen since he just spouted off a quick price without really looking at the job. Also during my phone conversation with him he just kept talking over me where I couldn't get a word in edgewise so I hung up on him. I set an appointment for him to look at the work. Mike went a day earlier and called me to go over the job. I expressed surprise we weren't meeting, he indicated it seemed straightforward and asked that I mark the trees for removal. We set a date for the work and I marked the trees. On arriving home I found the largest tree (and one that had a large broken limb from the storm which was hanging in the yard) had not been removed and stumps not ground as agreed. The crew returned the next day - indicated that the 3rd tree was too large to take out for the original price and that grinding was a big deal and they were going to have a hard time getting equipment in. On talking with Mike to clarify things via phone, he was very abrupt and cursed. I indicated forcefully that the confusion over the 3rd tree was inexcusable given the obvious broken limb - that of course it had always been intended as part of the scope of work and that if he had met me the day we agreed he could have fully scoped out the job and checked on the plausibility of getting the equipment into the yard. In fairness, his crew member was a lovely guy who took apart the fence to get his gear in for grinding and trimmed at least the broken limb to finish the job. Overall, a very poor situation that couldve been avoided had he not rushed to spec it and move on and left his crew with insufficient instructions and improperly bid the job. I'm hiring a different company to take out the 3rd tree on principle that I don't want to give him any additional business. read more

Mike's Professional Tree service is that exactly, Professional!!!! They showed up right on time, carefully removed all yard decorations and planters that might be in the way, and began to work. The crew didnt stop working until they were done with the project! They have a wonderful system where each member of the team is dutifully working and also making sure things are left as they were for the property owners. My biggest concern were my flowers, hostas and such that I've been carefully nurturing, and I was afraid they would be crushed for sure. But, my husband did mention my concern, and the crew did all they could to keep the bushes and flower beds untouched, and they did!!!!! They also trimmed all along the power lines and cut down a tree right over a shed, and nothing suffered damage....it was a wonderful experience, (they even blow the saw dust off your driveway). I will certiainly recommend them to anybody interested in removing trees, and I will certainly hire them if services were needed in the future. read more

the folks who cut down the trees from mike did a fantastic job, they were courteous and did a great job. i had the trees cut down on a Friday and was told the wood would be picked up by tuesday in addition to having the stumps grinded later that friday a truck came to remove the logs, due to the size of the trees he couldn't fit them all in his truck, so he left and never came back. when he left i noticed his truck leaked oil in my driveway and in front of my house. Even though i wasn't thrilled about this and i wasn't sure if this was normal or not i decided not to call to complain since overall i was happy with the work. monday morning they came and removed the stumps again did good work and were friendly i assumed the truck for the remaining logs couldn't be far behind.. he never came monday or tuesday to get the logs.Wednesday a neighbor of mine asked to take some of the wood which i obliged as the week went on they never came to get the wood. i decided to see if my neighbor and cousin wanted the remaining wood, they did. On friday i called to complain that nobody ever came to get the wood, in addition to the oil change and the fact the price i was quoted wasn't what i paid for. i was charged $100.00 more, again at the time i wasn't going to complain but when add into the other issues, i wasn't happy. as mentioned in other posts there are no written contracts everything is verbal so i had no recourse as is. the lady i talked to on the phone was very nice, said no oil should ever be left behind and that the owner takes complaints very serious and would call me back. The following Wednesday i got the call from Mike and was blown away. Not once did he apologize, he was actually borderline combative, and defintley rude. he wouldn't even entertain the fact that his trucks could leak oil saying they were all brand new. ( as if i was just making this up) Now mind you when doing the job Friday i saw his employees constantly complaining about one of the trucks because it wasn't operating properly. When asked why i didn't complain before i mentioned at the time i was willing to look past it but now in addition to the wood left behind it bothered me. As for the wood being left behind, he essentially put this on me saying i should have called to get it done. I told him i paid him a good amount of money to do a job and i shouldn't have to stay on them to get the job done. we all have busy days its not my job to remind them do theirs, especially when i paid him. He again suggested i should have done something rather than waiting and if i was really upset i could go find my neighbor and charge them for the wood. Nice idea, thanks...to show how out of control he was, his explanation for forgetting was his worker is a 65 yr old man, he makes mistakes hes human(nobody suggested he wasn't), what do you want me to do punch him he says. wow. i couldn't believe it in short again his workers did a great job cutting down the tree, the price was fair though in hindsight i paid for work i didn't get done. just be warned if you have any issue you are dealing with somebody highly irrational. who also wasn't one bit apologetic. I decided to go with Mike's professional tree service to remove a tree in my front yard. His price was competitive but everything else was terrible. First of all, he told me that he would be by to make an estimate on a Monday morning, and he never showed up. He finally made it out to my property the next day but did not call to let me know of the change in plans. The tree came down relatively quick. When it came to removing the stump, however, there was a huge customer service disaster. I needed the stump removed promptly because I had work lined up to be done on my driveway where the stump was located. I called a couple days after the tree was removed and I was told that the stump grinder was delayed by a couple days but that it will be done the next day. The next day came and nobody showed up. This went back and forth for several days and I was told each time that I called that they will take care of it the next day. It took 10 business days for them to finally show up which subsequently delayed the other project I had lined up to be done to my driveway. On top of the lousy turn around time, I was contacted by the billing department and harassed about not paying my invoice yet, despite the job not being done. This is just poor business practice. I would suggest not using Mike's Professional Tree Service unless you are OK with the worst customer service that you can find. read more

I called Mikes tree service for an estimate next thing i know he had the job for 100$ more than the other service then I called to cancel 3 times and he kept talking me into using him.... the other service uses drug addicts, we will be there tomorrow and have everything done right, the last time he dropped dropped the price to 900$ said he would bring the crane, well they could not use the crane because of all the wires,. so they show up start moving things in the yard( if i knew things had to be moved I would have done it). they were here 5 hours trespassed on 1 of my neighbors yard with a cherry picker , woke another 1 up to use her drive way promised to leave them wood( no they left nothing)and did not take down 1 of the branches that had a dead branch on it. i asked about it Steve told me know but he would do it for 100$ I go to pay and he wants 1000$ instead of 900$. i called up Mike he said he would be back the next day still waiting My daughter called him up and he was so arrogant and he hung up and her. this was my third time using mike tree. and the last. he in my opinion has issues that dont allow him to see clearly other peoples perspective regarding how they are effected by what his company has done. he removed trees for me but left major parts of my yard destroyed. and knocked down parts of three retaining walls. he promptly came to my house to look at the situation. Im not sure why. by the time he left he had convinced himself that he done no wrong. well after I made some calls he sent his guys out. they dumped a pile of loam in my yard, some of which they used to fill two ruts leaving many more, some in the six to eight inch deep range. they piled fallen stones back on top of one wall but left the others without doing anything. It is impossible to mow the yard in the areas that are rutted up. nevermind the fact that I have three grandkids that love to run around but I cant let them for fear of them being injured if they step into one of these ruts. heres the best part. he called me and asked if I liked the color of the loam. run from this tree company and anything that is part of it. read more

I'm not sure who paid these people to give this company good review. I assume the owner because he has no integrity. He acted in an unprofessional manner when we paid him $300 less than what he quoted us, because; 1. He didn't do what was agreed upon, 2. what he did do was sloppy, and 3. we had to replace a section of our neighbors fence and repaint it, and fix our lawn that had large ruts needing loom and reseeding. We sent him pictures of the damage and a description of what he didn't complete from our agreement and he continued to harass us regarding the issue. He is now taking us to court to pay a fine, and because we are good people, we did't understand the lawyer language and now he wants $900 instead of $300 because of late and lawyer fees. I have no idea how this man puts his head on his pillow at night. If anyone is looking to hire him, please take this into consideration. Take a look at BBB. Mikes Tree Service is a poorly run company. Our appointment was set for one day, they never showed. I had to call to see what the problem was. They changed the date due to conflict. You would think they would have contacted ME! When they did remove our 3 trees, the job was done without any care for our property. Our Wooden fence was badly scratched, our yard was torn apart by the crane used to remove the logs. We were left with half of our grass ripped out with holes dug in the ground from the crane. The yard was covered in saw dust and never once did the owner own up to these issues. Instead, Mike told us that his competitor, northeastern, would have knocked down our house if they remove our trees. He told us that we were giving him a headache and that we were ridiculous....when HIS company caused damage to OUR property. This man and his company is a disgrace. Stay away!!! The only good thing i have to say is that they came out to do the work the day they were supposed to. However, for starters, Mike is very rude and unprofessional on the phone. He said he was going to charge me $100 extra to cut two Branches off one tree and grind one extra stump and then i get his bill and he tried charging me an extra $50. I don't appreciate this guy's attitude. The work that was agreed upon was 15 Trees, 16 Tree Stumps grinded and two branches off an additional tree. When I got home to see three tree stumps were left undone (with nothing around the stumps), I called Mike to find out why they weren't done and I got nothing but an attitude from him. Last time I checked, I'm the customer and he's doing work for me. Do yourself a favor, don't use this guy for your tree service if you value customer service like I do. There are many other Tree Services out there that will give you much better service than Mike's. read more
