On Monday I dropped off a pair of pajama pants to be hemmed before we leave on vacation so the family can wear matching pajamas on Christmas Day. The lady stated it will be ready Wednesday. I go to pick it up at 2:30 pm on a Wednesday, and it still isn't ready. At the time I had a million things to do before our trip, and on top of that a very tired 1 year old. I needed to get him home for a nap, and didn't have time that day to pick it up later, so I took the pants back with me. So so frustrating. If you state you'll have them ready by Wednesday and don't specify a time, they should be ready. PERIOD. Plus, charging $12 for a pair of pajama pants? A bit hefty if you asked me. Thank goodness for these guys. I was a little skeptical about the reviews here when I arrived to a what looked like a shanty shack. The place is small, old looking, and a little on the ghetto side but hey, they did well! I would have to say that I'm a little on the picky side but even so, I'm even lazier to drive somewhere farther to get an alteration. So I brought my Theory dress pants into the shack and they told me to try it on, blah blah blah. Story ends with them doing a good job, and DID NOT ruin my slacks (I was scared). In the last several years, I've brought in approximately 7-8 pairs of jeans to be hemmed. The work has always been done very well, and to my specifications. Only once has my pick up time been slightly delayed; so it's wise to call and confirm a completion of order. I've only dealt with Delfa (who has a pleasant and friendly demeanor, and is accommodating to the specifics of your order). I definitely recommend these guys! I found Mike on yelp and thought I would give him a try since I frequent the area. So,.. I have a habit of buying pants that are too long and actually wearing them as they drag on the floor. Finally deciding get them hemmed and hemmed right, I stopped by Mike's arms laden with pants. The first pair of pants were absolutely perfect. Went well with flats or heels. My second set (series of 5 pairs) were good as well. They're quite busy but the woman who helped me stayed late(!) to get mine done a few days early since I was starting a new job. Reg pant hems will set you back $6, pants with lining are about twice that. Next test: dress fitting. Edit 1/24/08: Took synthetic silk (rayon really) skirt to be completely re-sized. Nothing too crazy (I thought) - just need the skirt to be shortened FROM THE TOP. No extra darts, no fancy ribbing. I got it back and it was HORRIBLE. Not only was it about 6 sizes too big (skirt was cut on a bias - bias cut fabric will stretch out of shape oddly if not done right) but raw edging of the fabric was sticking out of the top! Realizing that the fit was completely off, she offered to correct it by adding additional seams. I thought that to mean darts. Not so. When I arrived the second time, she had 'forgotten' about the adjustment and made me come back. By my third visit, I had given up and picked it up without looking at it. When I got home, I noticed that the "seams" she put in were not darts at all. She just took larger (ie, HUGE) seam allowances from the existing side seams. Now I have a skirt that fits (barely - skimming off really), with weird bunches on the side (from extra fabric), feathering at the top (from unfinished edges) and a 2" zipper. I could have done a better job! In which I have to ask myself why I paid $12 for this? Sigh. I will attempt to correct the horror that is the skirt and vow never to bring them anything other than pants to hem. Thus the amendment. I dropped another star after this incident. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I had read the reviews and chose this place, over others, based on their good experience. I have to admit that I'm quite disappointed, and I'm yet to receive my things back 72 hours after the agreed time. The person there was very nice and helpful. She had mentioned that she may not be able to have my things ready on Friday afternoon, that if I could pick them up on the weekend. I told her that I wasn't able to pick them up on the weekend, and that I would be okay to pick them up on Monday morning. So after the weekend, I drove here first, thinking that my things would be ready with the additional 72 hours given. I show up opening time on Monday and nothing is ready. I was asked if I wanted to wait for my things for an hour. I told them I had to be ready for work already and that I would have to pick them up later during the day. I called at 2:00 pm again, to confirm that I would be picking my things up to get the reply "One more hour." I rarely critique things. I understand that working with the public is not always easy. My work requires above average patience, but how long do I have to wait for something I was told would be ready by 4pm on a Friday? I understood and I was the one that said "don't worry about it", and that I would be willing to wait until Monday. I'm not sure how to feel about this situation, especially critiquing some small mom & pop place like this, but it's not fair for me, as a client, when a simple answer could have been given. I would have not minded if they said a week, or more time, but don't tell me a different time twice and not be ready. At this point, I'm just waiting to see how my garments ended up. I'll have to update this review later, if necessary. This place takes cash only, so make sure you're prepared. read more

I brought in a pair of nice golf pants I had just purchased, but needed to have shortened. They finished the work within the specified time and with excellent results. In fact, when I picked them up, I wasn't sure they had altered them before I tried them on. That's how professional the hemming was! I'm a bridesmaid in an upcoming wedding and came across probably the worst dilemma a bridesmaid can face. A dress that is too small! Yikes! I needed help ASAP and i found Mike's Tailor shop here on yelp and crossed my fingers that they could save me! And they did. The mother and son that run this place are super sweet and they did a great job on my dress. A friend recommended that I get original hem ($9) done at this place for dark wash jeans. I went on a Saturday afternoon, found a parking spot in the lot easily, and was greeted by Joe with a friendly smile. I tried on the jeans for him to measure, which he did carefully. I appreciate that he asked if I would be wearing shoes (heels) of that height with the jeans. He said that original hem wouldn't be necessary, so I just got regular hem at $6, with $2 more for the jeans to be ready by Monday. I don't think the extra charge was necessary, but maybe it's because it was the weekend. Can't complain since it's cheap and the hem's decent. I just wish now that I had worn flats instead as the jeans are a bit long to wear with flats, but that's my bad. This place only takes cash. read more

I brought a new suit here for some alterations. The lady was very helpful at measuring my body and getting the suit to fit perfectly. The suit was done in 4 days. I usually go to the alteration at Las Tunas because they are cheap but unfortunately it took them almost two months to do simple alteration for 3 dresses and paid $25 each just to be shortened the length. I started looking for different alteration place and I came here because of good reviews. I just need to have my dress shortened but the lady charged me $65 which almost the price of my dress and the hem was not even the original one. read more

I've taken several garments here for alterations over the years. Pants, skirts, formal dresses. I've always been satisfied with the quality of work and the turn around time. I'd rather drive 15 minutes there and 15 back and pay them rather than doing it myself. And the price is always reasonable, even lower than the dry cleaners. read more

I usually wear my suits extra slim, and she pinned me up exactly the way I wanted without arguing (I'm used to tailors trying to tell me that what I want is too slim and won't look good). The day before they were supposed to be done they called and asked if they could take another day. Sure thing. Searching Yelp, I came across this store and decided the reviews were good enough (to my liking) to bring my clothing items in. Not only was the man working in the shop extremely nice, but he quickly pinned the bottoms of my pants to my altered liking. These guys can do the basic jean or pant hem but they can't be trusted with anything more advanced. I took a skirt which was size 8 to be taken in to a size 2/4 (my size) and paid extra $25 for both sides to be taken in, but they totally didn't measure me correctly and took in the sides unevenly. The right side was clearly more taken in than the left side and the skirt hung lob-sided on me. When I asked them if they noticed, one of the guys even said "it's because you only took in one side". I actually paid extra to have both sides taken in, sir. They basically ruined my skirt and now one side is more scrunched than the other. I'm disappointed that even though they took my measurements, they still couldn't get the skirt right. read more

I've only used the tailor service at Mike's once, and I'm pretty pleased with my results. I dropped off 5 pairs of jeans, ranging from expensive Citizens to some cheap $20 Mossimo's from Target. The hemming was perfect on 4 pairs of jeans, the thread color matched perfectly. Pretty good deal for 6 bucks a pair. However, my cheapo jeans from Target were a bit off. The seams were well done, but one leg is hemmed about an half an inch shorter than the other. Since these were pretty cheap jeans, and I only plan on wearing them for everyday errands, it's not a big deal. However, I do expect even leg lengths on all my pants, regardless of price. I plan on going to Mike's again, so let's see how they work out the next time. read more

I brought 3 pairs of pants for a simple hem job. I told the gentleman exactly what I wanted done. When I picked them up and tried them on at home, they were ALL too long. I called them to see if they could fix the problem. The lady said she would redo them for me without charging me again. However, when I went back, she changed her tune.
