There has been a change of ownership. The quality has fallen and prices have risen. Too bad. Back to finding a new tailor I fear.

I called these guys near 5 pm on a Thursday to make sure they were still open so that I could drop some pants off for hemming. They said I was good to go if I stopped by before 5:30. Once I arrived, Martin (I think that's what his name is) the tailor said if I gave him 10 minutes he could hem them for me, which he did. The only thing though is that I had to go to a nearby gas station to get cash. Friendly people. Good prices. Great service! read more

This was my first time needing a hem and my first time here~ I was greeted by friendly service. They offered a dressing room but i had already measured the length I need to hem, so I was on my way out with ticket in hand within 2 min. I was assured I could pick it up later in the day. I moved downtown about 6mths ago and decided it was time to find a new tailor in the area. I work in fashion, so I'm very particular about where I take my clothes to be altered, and figured being close to the fashion district I would certainly find someone I could trust. After a little research I found Mike's and the reviews were accurate. Everyone who works here is not only great at their job, but very kind and pleasant to work with. At first sight the shop looks a little topsy turvy but don't let that discourage you. They know what they're doing. They are neat and do incredible work. Highly recommend! read more

I called, and they answered the phone. They quoted me a fair price to hem my pants. I went and luckily they weren't too busy so they did the job professionally while I waited. I referred my girlfriend to them. She got her pants shortened with original hem - $11. She had some difficulty communicating with them since she doesn't speak Spanish. She waited about 40 mins. Do not use if you have a specific time frame needed for service. I came in on a Saturday to hem a few pair of pants and to shorten the sleeves on a denim jacket. I was assured that the garments would be ready by the following Thursday at 1 pm. I arrived at the shop at 330 PM. They could not locate my clothes. I then saw them underneath a giant pile of other clothes, without the completed alterations. No apologies were provided. AVOID. read more

This tailor shop is a hidden gem! They did a stunning job on a gown I had brought in that was probably a couple of sizes too large for a very reasonable price. They were very patient with me when I wasn't completely happy with it after the first alteration, and fixed it up to exactly what I envisioned in the end. In fact, you wouldn't be able to tell that it was altered at all. Turn around was quick too. Thanks to Mike's I left with a dress that had me looking like Kim K. Horrendous service and work! I needed small Cinderella tucks put in my wedding dress and being new to LA was told to try this one. They did my fiances suit fine but do NOT trust a wedding dress to them!! When I pointed out how unevenly placed the tucks were and how wrinkled the material the tailor snapped at me "well I can just cut off the bottom half of the dress and no more wrinkles"! What?!? This is my WEDDING dress! They had it for 2.5 weeks and kept telling me not to worry!! Now I'm days away from my fairytale wedding, in tears and frantic! Thank God for my wedding coordinator... called her and she's got an expert seamstress that she said can do it perfectly! Again... buyer BEWARE!! Do not trust this place!! read more

Took six vintage t-shirts in for simple work on each (shortening length and small fixes). Asked them to keep the original vintage taste of the shirts by not changing the stitching style (shirts were single stitch) THREE TIMES (twice in person, once through the phone to reassure), but they still managed to mess it up and alter the original stitching. Also asked them to cut off the extra fabric when shortening the shirts, but they did so for ONE out of five shirts (sixth one was brought in for fixes, not shortening). Charged me $40 for six shirts, which isn't too bad but isn't cheap either. I expect better work, at the very LEAST what I asked for. When I received the shirts back, I asked why they didn't follow what I asked for. Man servicing me said "I thought you said you wanted to change the stitching. It's no big deal." even though I explicitly stated not to THREE times. Very careless, did not offer to re-do the ones they messed up on nor did they give any discounts. Store ran by four very elderly men (70+ y/o) who are not very good at English. Did not expect such simple alterations to go wrong, but guess they cannot follow simple instructions. Will not be coming back again. Come at your own risk. read more

Unfortunately had a bad experience here. Got a quote for work on a pair of pants and a button change. But i wasn't sure i'd find buttons in time so also got price without buttons. When i went to pick it up (no button work was done) they tried to charge me the higher price and acted like they forgot about the higher quote having included the buttons. Also, the tailor doesnt really get modern cuts for suit pants, so i had to have the pants done twice. read more

I had three pants that needed alterations. One because I ripped the seat, too many desserts. Mike has an army of tailors working on Saturday. I was able to drop off my pants and pick them up in two hours. Mike had a constant flow of customers. They did excellent work at low prices. This part of DTLA is not LA LIVE. I've been coming to Mike's Tailor shop since around 1986, when Jesus' hair was jet black. I had bought a rain coat in a thrift store that was probably 4 sizes too large and was actually turned away by a couple other tailor shops. I took it to Mike's and Jesus shrugged, marked it up and it was ready the next day, fitting like a glove. They have NEVER let me down since. Their work is impeccable and their prices are very low. There's the old adage that you have to choose 2 of 3: fast, cheap or good. They are the exception to that rule. If you want something done the same day, they can usually accomodate you. Regardless, they are very fast. I've actually had people compliment the way my clothes fit as a result of their alterations. I usually have to go there on a Saturday because of work, so I either go close to opening time (8am) or closing (5:30) when it's quieter and very easy to find parking, especially at 5. read more
