They're always quick and they do an excellent job-- Will I go back? OF COURSE! I've gone to Mike's for many years-- they used to be in another location. I think part of the idea is-- you buy something in the garment district and you take it in for alterations. But they're also really great for alterations-- hemming, tailoring, making smaller, larger, etc. I'm usually running in last minute before a trip or an event, and say "I'm leaving town early next week? Any chance I can still get this done?" They most graciously accommodate. And, as many have said, they are very sweet people. read more

I have been going to this shop since 2001 because they are cheap and they follow instructions. They specialize in, in my opinion, trimming andhemming pants. To have your pants cut and hemmed, it's only $4! It used to be $3 back in 2001 but times are achanging! You can have those fancy "keep-the-original-hem" things going on too... for a low low price of $8. That is super cheap dude! I found out what a real good deal this place really is after I went to their old address, 821 S. Main, and found out that they were gone. I quickly checked yelp for other tailor shops in the valley (where I'm based) and the cheapest one charges $8 for the plainest of trimming and hemming! I have been going to this place for 10 yrs! Used to charge $3 to hem a pair of pants. Now it's $4. Still a bargain. He hems it so that it looks like the original hemming using the same thread. If you have those designer jeans, he will even sand it down so that it will look exactly as original. It will usually take him a couple of days to do the job depending on how many items you drop off. Tuesday i dropped off 7 pants and he said it will be ready Thursday after 1pm. I have also waited on a few occasions. Took some board shorts that were too long to get hemmed up and specifically told them to make the cut above the logo towards the bottom of the short and to also shorten the pocket on the other side as it would now be too long and hang out. They told me I could come pick it up after one day and when I did, not only was the pocket not adjusted, but the logo that I specifically had asked the cut to be above is still partly showing as they actually made the cut in the middle of it. They asked me to come back the next day but I went ahead and paid for the poor job because they obviously cannot competently do anything right the first time. I thought hemming some shorts would be an easy straightforward job but this shop has proved that to be wrong. I am taking these shorts to another tailor and I would not recommend these people if you want something done right. read more

I brought my jumpsuit in and I told him if I could pick it up the next day at 8am. He told me it was fine and it should be ready. When I go to pick it up, they couldn't even find my item and I see it on the side counter. It's not even hung up OR ready.. This is hands down, the most sketchiest, and unprofessional place of business I have ever encountered! I've been going to tailor shop's for basic alternations for over 25 years and this place by the worst of the worst!!! I came in for a basic alteration with a dress and was told by Mike to come back in 3 days and it would be finished. I came back and it wasn't finished, so Mike told me to come back 3 days later again. I came back 3 days later again and it still wasn't finished, so Mike told me to come next week. So I came back the following week, I finally picked up the dress, paid for it, brought it home, unwrapped it out of the plastic, only to find that my dress was butchered. I found up to 14 holes all over the dress in random locations. It was unbelievable!!! This dress was just purchased and I came in for a basic alteration and was left with a dress that looked like swiss cheese! And it doesn't stop there... I called him up, so Mike told me to bring the dress back. I went through the entire dress with him and pointed out all the holes. He didn't even apologize and said to come back in 3 days. Ironically enough, I came back in 3 days and inspected the dress in front of him and the holes had not been repaired. So Mike said come in 3 days again. What a surprise, I came back and holes had still not been repaired and I had to continue to point out all the holes in the dress. This ridiculous charade went on for over a month! That's right, a month!!! By the last day, to pick up the dress, can you guess what happened?? Big shocker, the holes are still there!!! Mike told me to wait 10 minutes to repair each one. As I waited, a woman came to pick up a white bridal dress from Mike, she tried her dress on in the fitting room, came back out with it, and told Mike, "what happened to my dress?" She began to point out all the flaws in to him and I just shook my head and laughed. Mike told her, come back tomorrow. She said,"Tomorrow, I've waited so long already?"Of course, Mike said nothing her, like the professional that he is. I told her, "yeah, good luck, I've been waited for over a month for a perfectly fine dress that he put 14 holes in." Needless to say, she was pretty shocked and upset. I highly recommend no one go near this so-called establishment with anything of value! Beware!!! This is a butcher shop, not an alternation shop!!! read more

Ugh....I had been taking jeans and pants to Mike's for over a year and they had always came back great. I took a dress there on a Friday afternoon and they said it would be ready the next Wednesday at 2pm. Even wrote it on the receipt. I got there on Wednesday at 4:30, and my dress was hanging on the rack still untouched! He said, 30 more minutes, but hell, I'm parked illegally, I can't wait 30 minutes! Especially since they were supposed to be done 2.5 hours ago! Really upsetting because I left work early to pick them up. I took a maxi dress to be shortened and I do not understand why it costs $10 when a dress is easier to hem than pants! Mike told me to come back in an hour and I came back 1 1/2 hours later and they had not even started on my dress yet! He told me to wait 10 more minutes. So if my dress takes only 10 minutes, does it mean it's $1/minute to hem my dress? I also did not have 10 minutes. Mikes tailor shop is the epitome of a badly run business. I tried this place many different times and every time I had an issue. Mind you I had to drive here over and over again from Van Nuys and this place is in downtown. Lets start with their hours, they are never accurate. Mike makes up the hours based on how he feels on the day. One day its 7-3 next day is 9-4 and then they are randomly closed although he tells you your garment will be ready on the day of closure. Secondly, they mess your clothes up every time. You'll sit there and explain it to him over and over and he'll still mess it up. He'll act like its no big deal and doesn't care about your time. Thirdly, he'll tell you something will be ready on a certain day and you'll show up and he hasn't even started on the garment. He's actually sent me home with clothes with the needle still in it, which could have poked me or my family. He's also lost my clothes several times and actually given me other peoples clothes before. Finally, Mike is unprofessional and truly doesn't care. There are so many great tailor shops around the area that this place is not worth your time. read more

I'm giving Mike's twos to offset the high reviews by others as that is what initially led me to Mike's. Parking's not so bad as there's loading right in front so technically you can just "load" though there's plenty of street parking. My main gripe is that they told me Friday afternoon, and I told them I'd pick it up first thing Saturday morning. So when I showed up at 10:30am they said "OH! umm. 30 more minutes," I swear they hadn't even touched it yet. The hem works, and they picked the right length. At least I now know they can hem my dress for $15 in about 30 minutes if I'm in a real pinch. It's not perfectly straight and even, but I'm a bit anal compared to most, my gma is a Japanese seamstress. But for 3.50 a pants hem I figure it's not bad. read more
