May 2026 update - Unfortunately after another five months of the same (promises made, none kept),…read moreI've officially given up in trying to get this resolved. While Brian did come out to sand out all the bubbles, it actually made things worse as I have areas of raw wood now. I've had to hire another contractor and will weigh my options as far as recovering compensation for a job that wasn't done right.

UPDATE (June 8, 2026): We have received neither payment nor communication from Brian…read more UPDATE (May 2026): We obtained a court judgment in our favor in late April. Brian told us he currently did not have the money, would be traveling in Europe for several weeks, but would "guarantee to pay at latest by June 5th." We will update this review accordingly. ORIGINAL REVIEW (April 2026): Using Brian's Painting was a very disappointing and costly experience that left us with an unfinished home and significant financial loss. We hired Brian for a $10,000 exterior painting project. After collecting $6,000, he completed only about 10% of the work, then abandoned the project and stopped communicating. Brian requested a 40% deposit ($4,000) and later an additional 20% ($2,000) after a short prep stage that took about eight hours. After receiving the $6,000, he returned only twice for brief visits over several weeks, then dropped the job, leaving the house unfinished. (See attached photos.) We attempted to resolve the matter in good faith. We agreed he could keep the $2,000 even though several licensed painters we consulted estimated that only about 10% ($1,000) of the work had been completed by Brian. He eventually agreed to refund the $4,000 deposit, but after multiple deadline extensions has only returned $1,300 and has now stopped communicating altogether. We are now pursuing recovery through court and filing a complaint with the Regulated Industries Complaints Office (RICO), which takes enforcement action against unlicensed contractors operating illegally in Hawaii. We also had prior issues with a smaller job he completed in 2023, including use of lower-grade paint than what we paid for and paint splatter left on appliances. Despite this, we gave him another opportunity when he repeatedly requested the exterior project. We greatly regret that decision now. Bottom line: We strongly recommend homeowners to look elsewhere.

My husband and I tried to do it two years ago for our son's nursery and needless to say it was an experience we never wanted to do again. We knew we needed to hire someone to do the wallpaper for our daughters nursery this time and thank God Homer said he was available! We got quotes from other people, some were over $1000 which to me is totally absurd for one wall - I think they priced us at $1,400 or something like that, not to say the effort doesn't deserve a decent amount of payment but over a grand just seemed like a lot especially for our budget. Homer gave us a quote of $450 and knowing he had good reviews on Yelp I was comfortable saying yes. He was on time, professional, super nice, made sure I knew he was still arriving to do the job the day before, always messaged me back if I had questions, and the final result is incredible. He showed up in the morning just like he said he would and was done in the early afternoon. If I ever need someone to do wallpaper services in future renovations I am absolutely contacting Homer to do the job! I feel his price was fair, the work was exceptional, and am very glad we hired him! Thank you Homer for your services! We love our nursery wallpaper!

Island coatings came out and it no time left us with a nearly new looking door. Arrived when promised, excellent service and a fair price. These guys fixed…read moremy walls up so well, were so easy to work with, and did everything I needed at a very reasonable price! I highly recommend Mike and his team for your wall repairs! I uploaded a few before and after photos, of two of my walls but they worked on several more walls! My CMU block walls and drywall had about 50+ holes, a bunch of which were the size of my index finger, many areas of ripped drywall paper, and numerous outlet-sized drywall cutouts that I wanted patched as if they never existed. Mike came over himself, looked at the job, and gave me a price on the spot. A few weeks later he sent John over to do the work. I was on a pretty tight schedule with an upcoming move and Mike really worked around my schedule as best as he could! John was so kind and efficient, and he took care of every single hole and cut out in under 2 hours and got the walls paint ready for me (I painted the walls the following day). I was expecting the work to cost $1,500 plus easily but Mike's did it for under $600 and the quality is on point! I was really worried about the outlet sized cutouts I made for running wires, but John patched them like it was no big deal and that was such a relief! They did such a good job!!! 10/10 highly recommend

My apartment had recently suffered multiple unidentified leaks this past year that has been a…read morenightmare to navigate. I first messaged Mike and other candidates in 2025 when I was gathering quotes for an insurance claim that ultimately got denied. It was very clear that Mike and the team have great workmanship from the photos - this is coming from someone who's seen great drywall work and extremely poor work that I could do better myself. I could tell right off the bat that these were the guys I wanted to work with. The proof was in the "mudding" as I changed scope to account for materials, budget, level 4-5 finish, and paint finish quality. Having to pay out of pocket for an expense I anticipated someone else to cover was a bit of a concern for my wallet. Mike was patient with me and we worked out a price we could agree on by removing items from the scope that might still been in good condition and limiting the amount of work that needed to be done on a bump-out wall next to my shower. John texted me soon after we agreed to move forward and scheduled the work for the following week. He also suggested a change in material (DensShield) from what I had originally requested (blueboard) and I am so grateful to have skilled/experienced teammates to work with that really know what they're doing. Day 1 was demolition, hanging, and mudding. John was finished and out before lunch and I could already tell that the quality of work was spectacular. You couldn't even tell the ceiling was repaired because it was blended in perfectly with the surrounding area. The bump-out wall was looking way better than it was even prior to the water damage. We left the fan on throughout the day and overnight to let the hot mud dry out. Day 2 was sanding, priming, and painting. Fortunately, I purchased and stored paint that was specific to my bathroom from a previous repair and had it at the ready this time around as well. Honestly, when I first discovered the leak, I originally planned to fix it myself so I also had a brand new container of primer. I'm pretty satisfied with the work, especially with the DensShield suggestion and installation in both affected areas to account for future leaks. I didn't know such product existed and the workmanship mudding a material such as DensShield and it essentially coming out nearly flawless is pretty impressive. Overall, I would give Mike's team a solid 9/10. Prompt responses, flexibility in materials/scope, and great quality of work. The quote, as some have mentioned is on the higher side compared to other candidates I'd spoken with, but I learned the last time that you get what you pay for. Could I have gotten it cheaper? 100%. Would it have come out as good? Not sure. The last guy I hired at maybe half the price got the job done, but clearly not done well and that's what got me in this predicament, SO... don't cheap out if you can help it - especially for a bathroom or high-moisture/high-risk area. I'm certain I'll be working with Mike and the team in the future and there are no regrets here as compared to my last drywall adventure. Thank you Mike & John for your patience and hard work.
